  • The Good Wife: Will’s Dead, What Now?

The Good Wife, CBS’ standout legal drama gave the audience a shock Sunday with the killing off of lead character Will. The character has played an important part of the show; he’s a partner at the Lockhart Gardner law firm (which is where most of the action is based off of) as well as a love interest to Julianna Margulies’ character Alicia Florrick.

The episode seemed to begin normally. Will was working on a case, and got an epiphany to turn the case around in normal legal drama show fashion. For some reason, his defendant apparently gunned down his lawyer after staring at the gun in the balliff’s holster because immediately after that scene watchers heard shots and screams– and saw Will lying on the ground covered in blood.

As you can see, the audience had a strong reaction to the shocking incident. What made that happen? Did someone want a pay increase and the writers decided that it was time to shoot him off? Is it going to be one of those “It Was All A Dream” doohickeys that could very well signal a series jumping the shark?

No, Josh Charles was simply over it. He explains in an interview: “Creatively, I was just ready to move on to the next chapter…you just kind of know sometimes when you’re ready to move on to new experiences…” So the writers decided to let him go out with a bang. Literally. The show has apparently planned some new developments to keep watchers satisfied, but only time will tell if they truly do. Who watches the show? Will you still tune in? Let us know.

  • William Shatner Turns 83, Launching New Series

Cultural icon William Shatner turned 83 yesterday, and has yet to show any sign of slowing down – He’s set to star in his own home renovation series on the DIY network, entitled The Shatner Project. Best known for his role as Captain James Tiberius Kirk on Star Trek: The Original Series, Shatner also gained notoriety for the title role on police drama T.J. Hooker, as attorney Denny Crane on the legal seriocomedy Boston Legal and was also the host of the popular reenactment series Rescue 911.

Shatner was born on March 22, 1931, in the Côte Saint-Luc neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He began his silver screen acting career in the 1951 Canadian film The Butler’s Night Off, though his first feature role came in the 1958 MGM film The Brothers Karamazov with part-time robotic cowboy Yul Brynner.

Aside from acting gigs, Shatner also co-wrote several novels set in the Star Trek universe, and authored a series of science fiction novels called TekWar that were adapted for television. The auteur also began music and spoken-word projects, beginning in 1968, with the release of The Transformed Man, in which he’d delivered disjointed, disproportionately intense renditions of Mr. Tambourine Man and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Shatner has also collaborated with Ben Folds on numerous occasions, and the duo co-wrote the album Has Been in 2004.

Shatner’s interpretation of Pulp’s Common People:

    Awesome.

Here Shatner loses, and then regains control, in a profound display of his mastery of his craft:

Interestingly, Shatner has ties to central Kentucky, and owns a 360 acre farm near Versailles called Belle Reve. He enjoys breeding and showing American Saddlebreds and Quarter Horses.

The Shatner Project is set to premiere some time this year, and will be a five-episode series in which Shatner and wife Liz will gut their 1970’s-era California home, and remodel it. Commenting on the new series, Shatner states, “I am embracing change. Our home will be unfamiliar territory for a while but I am excited by all of it.”

  • ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Will Say Goodbye To Cast Member

Last August fans of Lee Thompson Young, as well as those of Rizzoli & Isles, were shocked to hear that Young had died from an apparent suicide.

Production of Rizzoli & Isles halted for a bit after Young’s death. At the time show creator Janet Tamaro said in a statement, “Everyone at Rizzoli & Isles is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”

Young’s death had many wondering how the show would address his passing in the upcoming season.

On Wednesday, star Angie Harmon took to Twitter to let fans of Young and the show know they would be addressing Young with “love, honor, and respect” in their upcoming fifth season.

The episode that aired after Young’s death was dedicated to the actor with a memorial card onscreen that said, “In Loving Memory of Lee Thompson Young, 1984 – 2013.” Silent footage of young playing his Rizzoli & Isles character Detective Barry Frost followed the memorial card.

During Tuesday night’s season finale, fans and followers of the show and cast members noticed their absence on Twitter, where they can normally be found live-tweeting. Executive producer Jan Nash explained it was out of respect for Young.

Season 5 of Rizzoli & Isles will air June 17 on TNT.

  • Erin Andrews Makes DWTS Co-Hosting Debut

Erin Andrews Makes DWTS Co-Hosting Debut

Erin Andrews was under a lot of scrutiny last night during the two-hour premiere of Dancing with the Stars. Not only was the Fox Sports broadcaster venturing out into unknown territory in her gig as reality show co-host, but Brooke Burke-Charvet was let go not even one month ago. Fans of Brooke were going to be extra harsh on Andrews and fans of the show in general would be looking to see how Andrews handled her co-hosting duties.

By all accounts, Andrews did a nice job in her inaugural show last night, which kicked off Season 18. The 35-year-old former contestant and finalist immediately separated her style from Brooke’s. People Magazine TV Critic Tom Gliatto thought that Andrews looked comfortable in her new role. “Andrews talks with the flat, unhesitant delivery and slanginess of an experienced announcer, and she casually plants herself on the floor with a kind of no-nonsense strength. She is angular and even willowy, but her center of gravity appears to be unshakable. If you covered the Super Bowl, wouldn’t you be the same way? How would you survive otherwise?”

Of course, there was mixed reaction on Twitter. Some people liked Andrew’s delivery, while others did not. It seemed like the biggest complaint against Andrews was the tone of her voice.

Here’s the list of stars and their dancing partners for Season 18:

SEAN AVERY partnered with KARINA SMIRNOFF
CANDACE CAMERON BURE partnered with MARK BALLAS
DREW CAREY partnered with CHERYL BURKE
MERYL DAVIS partnered with MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY
NENE LEAKES partnered with TONY DOVOLANI
JAMES MASLOW partnered with PETA MURGATROYD
DANICA MCKELLAR partnered with VALENTIN CHMERKOVSKIY
    DIANA NYAD partnered HENRY BYALIKOV
AMY PURDY partnered with DEREK HOUGH
    CODY SIMPSON partnered WITNEY CARSON
CHARLIE WHITE partnered with SHARNA BURGESS
BILLY DEE WILLIAMS partnered with EMMA SLATER

  • “American Horror Story” Reveals Season Four Premise

Big news is here for fans of the FX series American Horror Story. Not many details have been revealed yet, but it was just announced that the setting of the show will be at a carnival.

The show has received great praise in its run so far, which has consisted of three seasons, and three different locations, or scenarios. The show is a horror series, and up until now, it has been set in a haunted house, a coven, and an asylum.

Douglas Petrie, a writer on the show, confirmed the carnival rumor when saying “Very roughly, that’s the idea.” He said the revealing statement on the Nerdist Writer panel podcast.

American Horror Story has been nominated for several awards, and continually gets recognition for the acting of veteran actress Jessica Lange. Other cast members include Taissa Farmiga and Sarah Paulson, although other big name stars such as Dylan McDermott and Kate Mara have also appeared briefly.

The American Horror Story series has been called an anthology due to the way in which the series focuses on a different setting with each “season” of it, although they can also be looked at as separate series’ on their own.

The show is created and directed by Ryan Murphy. He is also the creator of Glee, Nip/Tuck, and will be brining the story of The Normal Heart to HBO this summer, which is filled with stars.

Murphy previously announced that season four will take place in the 1950s, further narrowing the overall concept of the season. The next season is set to be the last one for Jessica Lange, who has received Emmy Award, the Golden Globe Award, and the Screen Actor’s Guild Award for her performance on the show.

The creators and a handful of the actors are set to appear at an American Horror Story panel at PaleyFest on March 28th. Last year, PaleyFest was the location where Murphy revealed the third season concept, and its Coven subtitle.

The new American Horror Story, with its carnival theme, is set to premiere on FX in October. However, the official title, and most details surrounding the series, have not been revealed yet.

  • Cristin Milioti Addresses HIMYM Theory About The Mother [Video]

Cristin Milioti Addresses HIMYM Theory About The Mother [Video]

After nine emotional and hilarious seasons, CBS’ flagship comedy How I Met Your Mother is coming to an end. Ted’s future wife has finally been revealed, but fans have still not been given her name.

At the end of last season, fans were finally given a glimpse of “The Mother,” and Cristin Milioti’s character has been introduced to each of the main characters throughout the current season.

Several clues have been dropped lately involving the future fate of “The Mother,” and fans have gone a bit wild with the theories according to some people, but some people have the idea that Cristin Miliioti’s character is dead.

For those that do not watch the show, it focuses on a father telling his kids the story of how he met their mother in the year 2020, with the past nine seasons being one long flashback of his dating life, and living with his friends in New York City.

Fans have been given good reason to believe in the tragic fate of “The Mother,” and the latest episode only helped to confirm those theories, with an incredibly emotional future scene between Ted and “The Mother.”

However, in a recent interview, Cristin Milioti has attempted to debunk these theories, claiming that the theory is insane. She was a bit put off by the idea that this show could end on such a dark note, and instead says that “They’ve had this vision for nine years, and it’s in great hands.”

Although she does say that the theory is insane and that “there are some crazy conspiracy theories, which really makes me love the fans more… That is so crazy,” fans of the show will also note that she did not exactly deny that she died.

Fans of Cristin Milioti’s performance in the past season will want to check out her next project called A To Z, a comedy on NBC, which will be produced by Parks And Recreation‘s Rashida Jones.

How crazy of an idea is it though? The show’s creators seem to have been hinting at it throughout the series, and the current season especially. Fans will have to stay tuned for the next few episodes in order to see what Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have in store for the viewers.

Cristin Milioti, who is a new addition to the show, said that the finale is beautiful, and that it has been planned out for a long time, with no other alternate endings planned.

The first of the final four episodes of How I Met Your Mother aired last Monday, and will continue tonight at 8 p.m. on CBS. There are only two more episodes to go before the hour-long, emotional series finale, which will air on March 31.

  • Netflix Acquires Streaming Rights To Two Feature-Length Pilots

Netflix has secured exclusive streaming rights to a couple of feature-length films from Fox Digital Studios, which are meant to serve as pilots for half-hour shows, reports Variety.

One of these films, How to Be a Man, is already available, having debuted on Saturday. Here’s the description Netflix is displaying:

Believing he’s dying, former comedian Mark hires a young cameraman to capture important life lessons for his unborn son on video.

The film was directed by Chadd Harbold, and stars Vice co-founder Gavin McInnes. Harbold retweeted this on Sunday:

The other film, ETXR, Variety describes as a drama about an “electronic-dance music DJ trying to communicate with aliens.” That one is supposed to debut on Netflix on March 31st.

While Netflix reportedly has exclusive streaming rights for both films, they’re both to be available for purchase via other channels like Amazon, iTunes and Xbox. While both or either may become shows, Netflix won’t necessarily be their homes (though I wouldn’t rule it out).

Netflix has acquired shows from Fox Digital Studios in the past, including Bad Samaritans and The Ropes.

“We could not be having more fun as we create this content for Netflix,” said Margie Cohn, Head of Television at DreamWorks Animation. “Each show is so diverse and the platform gives us so many opportunities to play with our characters in new and surprising ways. Our goal is to keep the audience always wondering what we’ll come up with next.”

“I am pretty sure this is the first time the word ‘beloved’ has been applied to a cat, a lemur, vegetables and snails in the same sentence, but DreamWorks Animation has an incredible knack for creating characters that kids around the world adore,” said Netflix VP of Original Content Cindy Holland.

The snails Holland refers to would be from Turbo FAST, the first original series from this partnership with DreamWorks, which debuted in December. The companies also just announced that new episodes will be available on April 4th.

In a letter to shareholders in January, Netflix said, “Though just launched, Turbo FAST is on track to become one of the most popular kids series ever on Netflix.”

The announcement does not indicate whether the new shows will change up the traditional 3D animation style of the previous incarnations of these characters as it did with Turbo FAST, which moved to a 2D look.

Netflix first partnered with DreamWorks in 2011 to make its content available in 2013. In 2013, it made a new deal to get original content from the animation studio in what was Netflix’s biggest ever push for original content.

  • Flight 370: Ju Kun, Who Was Working On Netflix’s ‘Marco Polo,’ Was On Board

Details about some of the passengers on Malaysia Airlines flight 370 have been emerging over the last couple days, and one of those on board was Ju Kun, an assistant martial arts choreographer, who was working on the upcoming Netflix original series Marco Polo.

This was confirmed by Deadline, who received the following statement from Netflix and The Weinstein Company:

We are deeply saddened by the news about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Ju Kun, who was on board, was an integral part of our production team and a tremendous talent. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Deadline’s article also includes some words from Marco Polo creator John Fusco.

The Boeing 777 went missing mysteriously on Saturday over the Gulf of Thailand between Malaysia and Vietnam. 227 passengers and 12 crew members were on board. CNN has an interesting list of possible scenarios and facts related to the flight and plane model.

We learned about Netflix snagging the Marco Polo project from Starz last summer, but it was officially announced just a couple months ago. It has no release date yet, but is expected to debut later this year.

Netflix has described the show as “a kinetic tale of high politics, masterful manipulation and deadly warfare among clashing empires.” It will consist of nine chapters, and is shooting at Pinewood Studios in Malaysia.

There seems to be a new show announced almost every day lately, and the latest star to receive a new show is Jennifer Beals. She is an actress that has enjoyed time in both film and television, and will be returning to TV after several years of being away from the medium.

Jennifer Beals is set to be the star of a new show on TNT, and it will be a supernatural medical show called Proof. She will play Dr. Kathryn Russo, a skeptical, hard-science, brilliant female surgeon with a caustic edge who has been struggling with the devastating loss of her teenage son and a growing estrangement from her surviving daughter.

Proof will also have a supernatural element to it, and her character is someone who is persuaded to investigate cases of reincarnation, out-of-body experiences, and other mysterious events. Throughout, she will be looking for verifiable proof to answer one of life’s greatest questions: Is death truly the end, or is there something else beyond?

The show will be executive produced by Kyra Sedgwick, who has plenty of experience with the TNT network after her hit drama The Closer, which ran from 2005 until 2012. It will be written by Rob Bragin, and directed by Alex Graves.

In other recent news of former television actresses returning, Katie Holmes was just booked to star in an upcoming ABC pilot, which is said to have comparisons to the classic Dangerous Liaisons.

Jennifer Beals gained her initial fame from the medium of television on the hit Showtime drama The L Word. She has also appeared in other shows such as Lie To Me, The Chicago Code, and a few episodes of Castle.

Of course, Beals first became a star after starring in the 1983 dance film Flashdance, and has since appeared in several films including The Book Of Eli and Runaway Jury.

Jennifer Beals, who is now 50 years old, will be joining a long of list of celebrities who have played doctors, in some cases, helping to jump-start their career, such as Patrick Dempsey and Hugh Laurie.

  • Katie Holmes Returns To TV With ABC Pilot

It has been 11 years since Katie Holmes was seen on the small screen, but she will finally be making her return with a new show. As many people remember, Holmes gained her initial fame through her role on Dawson’s Creek.

Since her departure from television, she has been spotlighted for her personal life with her marriage to Tom Cruise, and raising her daughter Suri, along with a several films. Following her divorce to Tom Cruise in 2012, she has reportedly been dating Jamie Foxx.

Katie Holmes originally played Joey Potter on the drama series, which ran from 1998 until 2003, and was a gateway for her to enter the Hollywood life. She is perhaps best known for her roles in Batman Begins and Pieces Of April, an indie film from 2003.

Her potential drama show is still untitled, but comes from writer Richard LaGravense, who also wrote the screenplay for the Golden Globe winning Behind The Candelabra. The show will be directed by Taylor Hackford. It is a drama about high society, and has been said to share similarities with the classic Dangerous Liaisons.

The series will be set in modern-day New York City. It will feature Katie Holmes as Ann, a woman of education and breeding, who has never used those advantages for power over others. She also runs a philanthropic foundation with her husband Phillip, who will be played by Rufus Sewell.

Phillip and Margot, who has not been cast yet, make a bet that will destroy his seemingly happy marriage to Ann, and soon Ann will learn to play the game, and be a competitive match for Phillip.

In a time when many film actors and actresses are turning to television perhaps to keep more of a routine, or get more in touch with a different type of audience, Katie Holmes will be returning to the medium that she knows best, and originated on.

Katie Holmes may be making her return to television shortly with the upcoming untitled ABC pilot. She will be seen on the big screen next in the film adaptation of the classic novel The Giver, which opens on August 15th.

  • ‘Hemlock Grove’ Season 2 Release Date Announcement Expected Soon

Less than a month ago, Netflix released the second season of House of Cards. Shortly thereafter, it announced a release date for its other big name show Orange is the New Black. But don’t forget, there was another show that came out between the first seasons of those two shows last year – Hemlock Grove.

So far, no announcement has been made for the show’s second season release, but it is expected soon. And why not if we already have a date for OITNB?

Hemlock Grove debuted in April last year, and the announcement of the second season came in June.

Shooting reportedly wrapped, and people involved with the show have said a release date will be announced soon. Zachary Stieber at Epoch Times reports:

    W. Andrew Powell of the blog The Gate further said, after taking a tour of the set and interviewing most of the cast members, that the season 2 release date will be announced “in a few weeks.” And that was on February 11.

Executive producer Eli Roth also said on February 20 that the season is “coming soon.”

The second season will be shorter than the first at ten episodes. It has picked up Charles H. Eglee of The Walking Dead, Dexter and The Shield fame as an executive producer.

  • ‘Mako Mermaids’ Season 2: Another Production Vlog Released [Netflix Originals]

The second season of Mako Mermaids, one of the less talked about “Netflix originals,” is currently in production. It began shooting in December.

Fans (of which there are apparently plenty) were recently treated to a couple of production vlogs, which Jonathan M. Shiff Productions put on YouTube. Now, a third one has been uploaded:

These vlogs are the first Mako videos to hit the YouTube channel since the famous Nixie “lobster test” scene.

By the way, it looks like the first season is headed for DVD.

  • Netflix Acquires ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ As ‘Original’ For International Markets

From Dusk Till Dawn, the upcoming series from Robert Rodriguez, based on the film he did with Quentin Tarantino, just became a Netflix Original. At least internationally.

In the U.S., the show will debut on El Rey Network on Tuesday. In other Netflix territories (Canada, Ireland, Netherlands, Nordics and the UK) it will be exclusive to Netflix, debuting on Wednesday (and a week later on March 19th in Latin America).

The show comes from Miramax, which Netflix partnered with back in 2011. Netflix currently has two sequels to the original film available for streaming in the U.S.

Miramax EVP, Production and Development Zanne Devine said, “Netflix is one of the most innovative and leading global entertainment platforms existing today and is an absolute perfect fit for Miramax, Rodriguez’s vanguard talent and this filmmaker-driven series.”

Here’s the description of the show:

Along the Mexico-US border, bank robber Seth Gecko (D.J. Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard ‘Richie” Gecko (Zane Holtz) shoot their way south after a bank heist in Abilene, Texas. The 10-episode series takes place over the course of one night, following the brothers as they try to evade a pair of Texas rangers, Earl McGraw (Don Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia). Along the way, Seth and Richie encounter former pastor, Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick) and his family. The Geckos take them hostage and steal their RV to cross the border. Chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club populated by vampires. With the law, the undead and some of Mexico’s most hardened criminals on their trail, the group must fight until dawn to get out alive.

Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos said, “We’re thrilled to premiere ‘From Dusk Till Dawn: A Netflix Original Series’ exclusively in our international markets. Robert Rodriguez is an amazing storyteller and we think our members will love his thrill-ride TV adaptation of the cult-classic.”

Rodriguez added, “I am excited about working with Netflix and Miramax to build an international audience for our series. This property has always resonated for viewers around the globe and we believe that it will be just as relevant for this new generation of fans.”

Just as relevant may be a bit of an overstatement. The original had Tarantino going for it, not to mention George Clooney and Harvey Keitel. But we’ll see.

Episodes of the show are an hour long. They’ll arrive in Europe and Canada on Netflix within 24 hours of the U.S. broadcast. In Latin America, episodes will be released on a weekly basis after the debut. Rodriguez directed four episodes. He also serves as executive producer.

It’s unclear if and when Netflix will get the show in the U.S.

The Clone Wars marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries.”
