Google Turns Search Into TV Guide, Announces TV Solutions for DoubleClick

Google made a handful of television-related announcements at the National Association of Broadcasters Show television industry event.

For one, Google Search will start showing live TV listings serving as your TV guide in a way that you probably hoped it had in the past. You can edit your provider for accuracy. It works for both shows and movies, which is cool.

The company also announced DoubleClick’s Dynamic Ad Insertion, which it says makes ads “hyper relevant” for viewers across any screen.

“By creating individual streams for every viewer using server side ad insertion, we are able to deliver a better, more personalized viewing experience that looks and feels as seamless as TV today,” explains Daniel Alegre, President of Global Partnerships at Google. “And not only will this work for both live and on-demand TV but it works across directly sold and programmatic.”

For DoubleClick for Publisher clients, Google announced that it will “seamlessly enforce” the level of control that has been established in TV across all inventory, whether sold directly or indirectly.

“That means, we are able to honor competitive separation – so two automotive ads don’t appear in the same commercial break – and other rules like making sure an alcohol and children’s cereal ad don’t appear in the same commercial break,” says Alegre. “This has been major blocker to enabling programmatic to work for TV. And now you no longer need to turn down attractive opportunities from advertisers interested in transacting programmatically because of compliance concerns.”

New TV partners include MCN, Roku and Cablevision, which have all signed on to use DoubleClick for Publishers to serve ads.

Finally, Google announced that it is collaborating with Autodesk on a new cloud-based rendering solution called Maya for Google Cloud Platform ZYNC Render. More on this here.

  • Deborah Ann Woll May Blur Some Lines in Daredevil: Season 2

Deborah Ann Woll May Blur Some Lines in Daredevil: Season 2

Deborah Ann Woll appears in a new motion poster for Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil: Season 2.

The official Daredevil Twitter account recently tweeted this out, saying “Lines will be blurred,” and showing Deborah Ann Woll as Karen sitting at a desk with a skull and some books while holding a pencil.

What does this mean? Well, we’ll have to tune in to find out (or wait for the inevitable spoilers of course).

In response to a question from Collider about what she enjoys most about playing Karen Page on Daredevil, Woll said, “The things that Karen wants to do and will do willingly are things a little outside my own comfort zone. Even just pestering people with questions, and being nosey and pushy and getting her way, are things I think many young women grow up struggling with, to assert themselves. I love how assertive she is, even sometimes to a fault. I like that the role asks me to do that, even when I wouldn’t ever do it in my life.”

The Daredevil account also put out this one with Elden Henson. Apparently friendship will be tested.

Either way, we know Elektra and The Punisher will be involved. Here’s the latest trailer for Daredevil: Season 2:

It looks like the cast has been having fun together.

You can check out Daredevil: Season 2 on Netflix on March 18.

Amazon Is Reportedly Pulling Its Nazi Imagery From Subway Cars

As earlier reported, Amazon plastered Nazi-esque imagery all over subway cars in New York City to promote its new original series Man in the High Castle.

The show, based on a novel by Philip K Dick, tells of an alternate history in which the Axis powers won the second World War. While Amazon’s Nazi imagery all ties in directly with the concept of the show, the ad campaign obviously rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Variety is now reporting that the company is pulling the ads:

“Amazon has just decided to pull the ads,” Kevin Ortiz, a spokesman for New York City Transit and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, said by email Tuesday. Executives at Amazon were not available for immediate comment.

The message has already been received loud and clear, however. The incident raised awareness for the show without question, and will now forever live in the memories of people who recall that time Amazon put a bunch of Nazi imagery up in New York.
