  • Eva Longoria Travels Near and Far for Documentary on Teen Pregnancy

Eva Longoria is just one of several actors who traveled both in and out of the country to create a film on teen pregnancy. Longoria visited the slums of Cartagena, Colombia on one of her stops in the creation of an upcoming PBS documentary called A Path Appears.

“Being in the slums and walking from barrio to barrio, you can’t walk two steps without seeing a pregnant teen,” Longoria said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The documentary follows Eva Longoria along with Pulitzer Prize winners Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn–as well as fellow actors Malin Akerman, Mia Farrow, Ronan Farrow, Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Ashley Judd, Blake Lively, and Alfre Woodard–to Haiti, Kenya, Colombia and across the U.S. They all explore the effects of gender inequality and poverty and meet with activists in the respective cities and countries.

“I didn’t know there were so many pregnant teens here in Colombia,” eva Longoria says to a local Colombian teen in a clip from the documentary. “I definitely don’t think [the pregnant teens] are aware that there’s a life outside of the bubble they live in, which is poverty. They don’t believe that they could go study.”

“What I love about documentaries is it humanizes issues. When you put a face to the problem, now all of a sudden you’re invested. You’re invested in this person’s story and their life’s journey,” Eva Longoria says of A Path Appears.

Longoria, as most people know, received her biggest claim to fame while playing the role of Gabrielle Solis on the hit ABC series Desperate Housewives. She is an activist for many causes in addition to poverty and teen pregnancy. She was named Philanthropist of the Year in 2014 by The Hollywood Reporter.

That said it comes as no surprise that Eva Longoria would lend not only her voice but her compassion to his PBS documentary. You can tune in to see A Path Appears starting this coming Monday, January 26th at 7:00 PM PT, 10:00 PM ET. It will also air in its entirety on the two following Monday evenings, February 2nd and February 9th during the same time period.

  • Justin Bieber’s Mother Publishes Memoir

Justin Bieber’s mother, Pattie Mallette has signed with Revell to write Nowhere but Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom. Justin will write the introduction to the book and it will be released on September 18th.

Mallette makes most of her money managing her son’s career and volunteers to help troubled women.

Aside from discussing her son’s rise to fame, she will discuss the less sparkling times in her life like the time she attempted suicide at 17 and her struggle with substance abuse.

As is tradition with these Oprah Book Club sure bets, Mallette will discuss how becoming pregnant with Justin made her a better person despite the fact that she had to live in a shelter. The shelter that she stayed in while being 17 and Bieber bound was going to be torn down but she was able to stop that from happening. Mallette “hopes her story will inspire other women in similar circumstances. I want them to see that no matter how desperate their circumstances may be, they can have hope for a better future.”

Malette’s faith in her young son has been the focus of her life for quite some time and is very obvious in the following Full Circle interview:
