  • “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” Teaser Trailer Released

The Planet of the Apes movies, adapted from the well-known Pierre Boulle work, have always been a world-wide phenomenon — starting from the Arthur P. Jacobs versions (that included Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowell), the Tim Burton version (with Mark Wahlberg), and the latest version by Rupert Wyatt titled Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which includes Andy Serkis. Now, there is a new POTA movie to “go ape” about titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that will be released to theaters in June of 2014.

To give a little sneak peek of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a mini-trailer has been released today as a teaser of what is to come, as well as to start the momentum. According to IMDb, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled to be released on June 11th, 2014, and includes the following actors and actresses: Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Keri Russel, and Terry Notary. I have provided a brief summary of the movie’s plot below from its IMDb page:

“A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.”

Unfortunately, the mini-trailer released today (Tuesday, December 17th, 2013) does not reveal that much. The mini trailer includes a 12-second soundbite of someone yelling “I need to speak to Caesar,” along with displaying a rain forest landscape in the background.

Even though this is a mini trailer for the new Apes movie, a full trailer will be released on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013, on the ApesMovies YouTube channel as stated by the @apesmovies tweet below.

Some POTA fans in the Twitterverse have been reacting to the new movie’s release:

  • The Last of Us Trailer Teaser Released

The Last of Us Trailer Teaser Released

Game trailers are teasers. They reveal a little about a game to get gamers interested in trying it out or pre-ordering it.

So, what does it say that it’s becoming a trend for game companies to release a teaser trailer for an upcoming trailer. Sure, THQ’s teaser for the Company of Heroes gameplay trailer might have been a nod to the fans that have been waiting the better part of a decade for the title. But Naughty Dog today released a teaser trailer for an upcoming story trailer for The Last of Us, a game that, as promising as it looks, hasn’t yet established a fan base.

The buzz about The Last of Us is loud, though. The game was one of the more impressive titles Sony previewed during its E3 presentation. It was also one of the more violent previews in an E3 that was filled with broken bones, dirt, and death. The game depicted desperate violence in an extremely realistic, disturbing way that most games aren’t able to.

Most everything seen about the title so far has revolved around a demo of the game where Joel and Ellie – the game’s protagonists – make their way past some bandits in an abandoned hotel. The E3 footage of the game showed the frontal assault style of gameplay, and the PAX Prime footage later showed the same scenario with a more stealthy approach. The new trailer, to be released on December 10, will be a “story trailer.” Hopefully it will reveal a bit about how the world ended and why there a roving bands of angry men everywhere.

  • Star Wars/Angry Birds Event Hinted at by Rovio

In just three short years, the Angry Birds mobile games have become known throughout the world. Angry Birds-branded plushies, bedsheets, and apparel can be found not just online, but in stores across the U.S. Now that Bad Piggies is a runaway success, it’s all but certain that toys inspired by the industrious pigs will soon turn up in stores.

So, Rovio has build a solid brand, but today the company hinted that the Angry Birds are going to be combining forces with the brand. The one that showed the world just how shameless and widespread merchandising could become. I’m talking, of course, about Star Wars.

Rovio’s official Angry Birds Twitter account (which the pigs seem to have made their own lately) today tweeted out a link to a brand-new Tumblr blog for Angry Birds:

The Tumblr blog has only one post so far, consisting of a short .gif and message. The .gif depicts what is clearly an angry bird in Jedi robes “holding” a lightsaber, though it’s not clear how that feat is being accomplished. The force, I suppose.

The image is accompanies by a cryptic message hinting that some sort of Angry Birds/Star Wars announcement or event will take place at the Toys R Us in Times Square at 10am EST. A “hint” suggests that people get to the store at around 8 am EST.

What’s going to happen at that time is anyone’s guess. Will Rovio be releasing Star Wars-branded Angry Birds plushies? A new cross-over game? Considering the success the pigs have been having lately, I’m hoping we get to see The Angry Birds Strike Back.

  • Hitman’s Sexy Nuns Get a Background Story

Hitman’s Sexy Nuns Get a Background Story

The teaser trailer for Hitman: Absolution that featured sexy nun assassins got the attention of the gaming industry, but not in a good way. Instead of focusing on the sheer ridiculousness of the concept, charges of sexism were thrown around because of the way the nuns were dressed and portrayed. The charges even prompted an apology from game developer IO Interactive, which explained that Hitman: Absolution will have a 60’s-era exploitation movie theme.

Today, Square Enix is releasing a new teaser video for the new Hitman that gives some background on just who theses nuns are (or were, in the trailer). The video is the latest in the the International Contract Agency (ICA) files series of teaser videos, which give overviews on the main cast of the game. The new video shows that the nun team is made up of former felons, cage fighters, junkies, and, of course, strippers:

Well, that explains it. Because strippers love to wear thigh-highs, leather body suits, and high-heels in their spare time or while out on assassination missions, right? This video certainly won’t help to do away with those sexism charges, but it looks as if the style IO Interactive is going for might work in the larger context of Hitman: Absolution.

Oh, and remember the leader of the nuns? The one who was able to hide a rocket launcher in her habit? Square Enix announced today that the character will be voiced by Vivica Fox, of Kill Bill and Independence Day fame. Watch the video below to see what Fox thinks about her character and how motion capture acting for video games compares with acting in a movie:

  • Bethesda Teases Something For “Tomorrow” On Facebook

UPDATE: It’s the debut trailer for Dishonored. Check it out here.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Just what in the hell is Bethesda going to hit us with tomorrow?

Whatever it is, it has me and a whole bunch of other people pretty intrigued, and quite excited. Earlier this afternoon, Bethesda posted a single screencap on their Facebook page with a single word: “Tomorrow.” You can see that image above.

Okay, so is it Fallout: New Vegas DLC? A new Fallout game? Skyrim DLC? Dishonored?

Let’s just check out some of the debate going on over at Facebook:

They havent even started working on fallout 4 so we know thats not it and @george new vegas is done getting add ons this i hope is a skyrim expansion

Note to all people thinking this is Fallout: NV, nobody is working on that game no more. Plus the graphics don’t mach at all… So more like Skyrim or Rage DLC or Fallout 4. BUT NOT New Vegas.

I just want to say I’d be surprised if it’s a trailer for an entirely new game. They would probably announce Fallout 4 at something like E3. That being said, I’m hopeful it’s Skyrim DLC

Lost: The Video Game (that’s definitely Sawyer) 😛

Eddard Stark! They’re making a game of thrones game:P

Ok, those last two were obviously jokes. But what do you think? Skyrim DLC? Something from their upcoming release Dishonored?

To be honest, we’re not sure around here exactly what this is. It doesn’t look really look like Skyrim to us, and Fallout also seems unlikely. Prey 2? We’re obviously just spitballing here. Dishonored is probably coming later this year and its steampunk style looks absolutely amazing. Although that’s probably your best bet, this doesn’t really look like Dishonored to us either, but you can check it out for yourself:

Hopefully “Tomorrow” really means some big news tomorrow. Maybe Tomorrow?
