  • HTC Teases All New HTC One In Amusing Ad

HTC made the rather perplexing decision to not unveil its latest flagship device at Mobile World Congress this week. Instead, the company will hold an event on March 25 to unveil the device. Until then, we’ll have to continue getting our information from leaks regarding the All New HTC One.

Interestingly enough, HTC has at least finally confirmed that its latest phone will be called the All New HTC One in a recently released video. The video, which initially starts as a simplified explanation of the HTC One’s BoomSound audio system, reveals that the All New HTC One will be bringing some form of improvements to its audio. We don’t know what improvements those are as the phone itself is blurred out and all technical specifications are censored.

Still, it’s pretty humorous and an interesting way to advertise a new device that won’t be officially unveiled for another month:

At MWC this week, Samsung unveiled its latest flagship device – the Galaxy S5. Beyond some interesting new software services and a bump in specs, it’s largely the same as the Galaxy S4. HTC poked fun at this as it builds up hype for its event in March. While the Galaxy S5 won’t launch until April, it gives Samsung ample time to convince consumers that the phone is worth their money. HTC won’t be able to really do anything until March 25.

Unless the all new HTC One is a major improvement over the already pretty awesome HTC One (all rumors so far say it isn’t), then HTC may have made a mistake in choosing to wait until late March to officially unveil the device. Until then, it has to be cheeky with its advertising to let consumers know that it’s coming without actually telling them anything about the device.

As an aside, whatever happened to that multi-year advertising agreement with Robert Downey Jr.?

  • Samsung Teases The Galaxy S 5 Ahead Of Reveal

Samsung Teases The Galaxy S 5 Ahead Of Reveal

We all know that Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy S 5 on Monday. Samsung knows that we know, and has been hyping up the device without actually sharing real information on it. The latest tease is a continuation of its hype train as it continues to associate its latest flagship device with the finer things in life.

In the latest “trailer” for the upcoming Galaxy S 5, Samsung associates its device with a number of buzzwords, like explorer, curiosity, create, surprise, fun and dad. All of these are then taken to the fifth power which seems to indicate that the Galaxy S 5 might actually have a superscript 5 instead of the usual number.

In other words, Samsung may be going the obnoxious route with its latest flagship device’s name – Galaxy S5. Trust me, it’s more obnoxious to format superscript than you might think.

Anyway, check out Samsung’s latest teaser to get a taste of all the things they’re taking to the fifth power with their latest device:

While teaser videos are nice, we still don’t know anything about the actual specs of the device. According to Digital Trends, Samsung’s latest flagship may come in two flavors – standard and prime. Both devices will share a 5.2-inch display, but that’s where the similarities end. The standard will sport a 1080p display powered by a Snapdragon 800 CPU and 2GB of RAM. The Prime will up the resolution to 2560×1440, sport a Exynos 5 Octa CPU and upgrade the RAM to 3GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be unveiled on February 24 at Samsung’s event in Barcelona. We can only hope that they actually don’t go with the superscript in the name.

  • Guardians of the Galaxy Unveiled By Marvel

Marvel offered a first look at the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie with a teaser image of the featured heroes. The image doesn’t reveal too much but does give us a glimpse at the make-up and special effects used on the cast. Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt are perhaps the only openly recognizable persons, playing the roles of Gamora and Peter Quill. The raccoon Rocket is voiced by Bradley Cooper. Yes…there is a talking, pint-sized space raccoon in this film. Before you groan, apparently he’s of the trash-talking, gun-friendly variety of rodent. More visibly imposing are famed wrestling star Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Vin Diesel as Groot (who is a space tree and not a misplaced Lord of the Rings prop).

This group of new heroes has a lot of work to do. Unlike other franchises such as X-Men, Avengers or DC staples Batman and Superman, there isn’t that much public familiarity with any of these characters. Only avid comic book fans may be likely to know who they are and care enough to see the movie on screen, at least if Marvel doesn’t do enough to draw in a wider audience.

There are a couple of things working to the movie’s advantage. New characters means fresh blood into the reboot-happy comic book movie genre. There is also the possibility of tie-ins to other Marvel movies. If done well enough, this movie could strengthen enthusiasm for additional upcoming Marvel Studios efforts.

The Disney-backed project released a synopsis for the film which opens on August 1st:

“An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.”

Sounds interesting, but it will probably take a trailer release to accurately gauge moviegoer enthusiasm.

  • What The Heck Is Sony Teasing In This New Trailer?

Sony is going to announce a new game on May 21. It’s codenamed Panopticon. There’s no word on platforms yet, but it could very well be a PS4 game. Here’s the first trailer that gives us a good look at the game while telling us absolutely nothing about it:

People are already drawing comparisons to Square’s The World Ends With You. That’s probably not the case, however, as this is a Sony Japan Studio game. The studio is already hard at work on Rain and Puppeteer for the PS3 so it will be interesting to see if this is a PS3 or a PS4 launch game. I’m willing to bet on the latter as Sony Japan Studio has typically always had a game out at or near the launch of a new console.

Either way, we’ll find out more on May 21. I’m excited to find out more, and the buzz on the Internet seems to indicate I’m not alone.

  • Bethesda Teases New Game Via Vine, It’s Not Fallout 4

Just yesterday, Bethesda Game Studios announced that it’s officially done with Skyrim. The studio is moving all of its team to full time development on its next title, and a recent teaser may point to what that game is.

Bethesda posted the following Vine teaser on its Twitter account today:

As you can see, there’s no explanation. Many are assuming it’s a teaser for Bethesda’s next game which many first assumed was an impending announcement for Fallout 4 or whatever Bethesda Game Studios is working on next. For Fallout fans, that’s unfortunately not the case as Bethesda’s Pete Hines put that assumption to rest:

Of course, it’s easy to forget that Bethesda is also a publisher, and the publisher has two games on the horizon. One is codenamed Zwei, a new survival horror game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. The other is an unnamed project from MachineGames, a developer made up of ex-Starbreeze staff. Some are saying that their title is a new entry in id’s celebrated Wolfenstein series.

The funny thing is that the Vine teaser could fit both scenarios. The record is playing Bach’s music, and Bach was German. Zwei is a German term and the creepy mood of the Vine teaser fits a horror-themed game quite well. On the other hand, Wolfenstein traditionally takes place during World War II and has the player fighting nazis in Germany.

Bestheda hasn’t said anything else since the Vine teaser, but we’ll probably learn what the mystery game is soon enough. Besthesda generally doesn’t keep fans guessing for long so we should be seeing a proper announcement before the end of the month.

  • Daft Punk’s SNL Tease, Looped for 10 Hours

Daft Punk’s SNL Tease, Looped for 10 Hours

If you caught SNL last weekend (or have been on the internet, at all, in the past couple of days), you probably heard the short but intoxicating 15 or so seconds of music that Daft Punk teased during a commercial break.

Well, some genius has looped that little tease for 10 hours.

We know that Daft Punk’s new album is slated to launch in May on Columbia Records. For now, enjoy 10 hours of the same (amazing) four bars of music. Because, really, what’s better?

  • Murdered: Soul Suspect Announced For “Early 2014”

For a while now, Square Enix has been hosting an alternate reality game (ARG) from the website murdered.com. Today the publisher has officially announced an upcoming game called Murdered: Soul Suspect.

The game’s tentative release date has been set for “early 2014,” though it’s not uncommon for dates of that sort to be pushed back. Soul Suspect will definitely be coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. No word yet on whether the title will also show up on next-generation consoles, which are expected to go on sale this holiday season.

Earlier this week, gamers and ARG fans sifted through clues to uncover a short teaser trailer for the game. It seems that players will be tasked with solving “the hardest case of all…their own murder.” Whether this means the game detective work or ghostly gunplay, as the trailer suggests, but the preview does seem to indicate the game will have will have a noir styling and flavor.

  • Sony To Reveal The PlayStation 4 On February 20

    Well, this was unexpected.

After numerous leaks and a suggestion that the reveal would happen in May, Sony is now teasing that the official unveiling of the next PlayStation will happen sooner than anybody thought.

In a blog post simply titled “See the Future,” Sony posted the following video teasing an announcement for February 20:

Of course, we could all be looking far too much into this. Maybe this is the future of the PlayStation 3, or Sony will announce some kind of reboot for the Vita to make up for struggling sales. That doesn’t appear to be the case, however, as the Wall Street Journal reports that Sony will indeed be unveiling the successor to the PlayStation 3 at the conference.

Sony is also sending out invites for the event with many industry figures placing their bets on a console reveal:

The event will reportedly be live streamed as well so Sony fans will be able to see the future of the PlayStation brand first hand. Expect new hardware and a few new games to go along with it. Don’t hold your breath for a price or launch date. Those will come closer to or at E3 in June.

  • Assassin’s Creed III “The Tyranny of King Washington” Teaser Trailer Released

Last week, Ubisoft released the first downloadable content (DLC) pack for Assassin’s Creed III. While the new content contained plenty of new side missions, weapons, and multiplayer extras, it wasn’t what gamers are really waiting for.

Every since the teaser image of George Washington sitting on a throne with scepter in-hand and an eagle-themed crown adorning his head, gamers have been excited for the upcoming “The Tyranny of King Washington” DLC. The content will feature an alternate-history timeline in which General Washington has claimed the monarchy of the colonies as his own.

The release date for the DLC has still not been revealed, but Ubisoft today released another teaser for it, this time in the form of a teaser trailer. In truth, the short teaser isn’t much different than the static image released back in October, but it does give gamers a chance to see the detailed royal accoutrements and how King Washington might look in-game.

  • Dark Souls II Announced, Teaser Trailer Released

Over the weekend, Namco Bandai used the Spike Video Game Awards as the venue for announcing the sequel to 2011’s most frustrating-yet-rewarding game, Dark Souls.

Dark Souls II looks to have everything fans of the original game could want. The teaser trailer has been released and it features bleak landscapes, dark caverns, fierce battle, and dragons.

The only thing that can’t be conveyed in a teaser trailer is whether the game will be as difficult as its predecessor. Dark Souls was infamous for its difficulty curve, which caused many a rage quit. Namco knows that this was part of the game’s appeal, though, and will almost certainly use Dark Souls II try to challenge players on a level not seen since the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

  • The Last of Us Trailer Teaser Released

The Last of Us Trailer Teaser Released

Game trailers are teasers. They reveal a little about a game to get gamers interested in trying it out or pre-ordering it.

So, what does it say that it’s becoming a trend for game companies to release a teaser trailer for an upcoming trailer. Sure, THQ’s teaser for the Company of Heroes gameplay trailer might have been a nod to the fans that have been waiting the better part of a decade for the title. But Naughty Dog today released a teaser trailer for an upcoming story trailer for The Last of Us, a game that, as promising as it looks, hasn’t yet established a fan base.

The buzz about The Last of Us is loud, though. The game was one of the more impressive titles Sony previewed during its E3 presentation. It was also one of the more violent previews in an E3 that was filled with broken bones, dirt, and death. The game depicted desperate violence in an extremely realistic, disturbing way that most games aren’t able to.

Most everything seen about the title so far has revolved around a demo of the game where Joel and Ellie – the game’s protagonists – make their way past some bandits in an abandoned hotel. The E3 footage of the game showed the frontal assault style of gameplay, and the PAX Prime footage later showed the same scenario with a more stealthy approach. The new trailer, to be released on December 10, will be a “story trailer.” Hopefully it will reveal a bit about how the world ended and why there a roving bands of angry men everywhere.

  • Nintendo Teasing Three Wii U Launch Titles

Remember when Nintendo relaunched the Facebook page for its Wii U console last week? I saw it as a movement on the company’s part to effectively use social media as an outlet to directly interact with fans and drive up hype. Well, the hype part is definitely in full swing with Nintendo’s latest Facebook post.

Nintendo fans who visited the Wii U Facebook page today were greeted with this rather unique tease:

    Wii U

Guess what the initial game releases will be for Nintendo’s new home console, Wii U? Soon we’ll scratch off to reveal the names! ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒.

Note how Nintendo uses the plural form “names.” They are revealing more than one game and it looks like they will actually be revealing up to three titles if the spaces between gray areas are to be believed. The post has already generated over 500 comments from fans making rabid and rather uneducated guesses as to the identity of the games.

While fans can speculate to their hearts content, it’s another indication of a new Nintendo doing things that they have never done before. I can’t remember anytime during my life when Nintendo teased titles for their new home console. They tend to not even confirm launch titles until a few months before the launch. That’s how secretive the company used to be.

With Nintendo’s stocks slipping and them needing a hit on their hands, it seems that the company is taking to actions that are very unlike the Kyoto-based developer. Not that I or the fans are complaining. A more open Nintendo means that we get to see more games which is only a good thing.

Unfortunately, Nintendo still doesn’t have this Facebook thing down just yet. Most developers usually challenge the community to like a post a certain number of times before they reveal something, but this one just says says, “Soon we’ll scratch off to reveal the names!” We can assume that Nintendo will reveal the titles during their E3 press conference on June 5.

As an aside, what would a Nintendo E3 article be without a little speculation? It seems that many in the Facebook thread seem to think that each block is representative of one character. That means that we have three titles with names that take up 34, 27 and 20 characters respectively. I was hoping for that Metroid Star Fox crossover to be real just for the laughs, but Paul Gale has now confirmed that title to be no longer in consideration.

I’ll leave the speculation up to the fans that love to spend their hours at a computer earning an online degree in cryptology to solve the puzzles of the newest games. I’ll just be happy to see a new Metroid game within the next five years.

  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Outed By Teaser Site Source Code

One of the more interesting rumors that has come about this week said Konami was working on a sequel to their excellent Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Those rumors gained a bit more traction this week with the launch of a countdown Web site.

The Web site has the simple URL of TheDragonReturns.com with a date of May 31. It’s pretty innocuous, but it looks very Castlevania-like. The real proof comes from looking at the source code. Under og: site_name it says “CLOS Teaser Page.” Unless I’m missing something, CLOS obviously stands for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

The source code also comes with a description that is not visible on the main page:

“Dare you face the evil darkness? It is written that the creatures behind that door will return very soon to claim the souls of your loved ones, and send you straight to hell! Be aware!”

Not only does that sound exactly like Castlevania, but it’s also a call back to the story of the first Lords of Shadow. In it, Gabriel Belmont is fighting to resurrect his dead wife. Needless to say, he fails in that quest, but the sequel could see Gabriel fighting for another chance.

The previous rumor pointed to Lords of Shadow 2 seeing release on the PS3, Xbox 360, Vita and Wii U. The Wii U version is of more interest since it’s rumored to connect in some way with the new 3DS Castlevania game being developed.

We don’t have many details on either game yet, but the confirmation of this new teaser site verifies at least one part of the rumor. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a dual announcement for both games at E3 this year.

As a final word to Web site designers, keep telling us what the game is in the source code for teaser pages. It makes our jobs so much easier.

  • Anchorman 2 Teaser Debuts on Funny or Die

Anchorman 2 Teaser Debuts on Funny or Die

Yes, there are a few ripped Anchorman: The Legend Continues, aka Anchorman 2, trailers on YouTube (no link), but this one constitutes the official web release of a new teaser, and it debuted on Funny or Die. As far as teasers go, there isn’t much revealed about the movie itself, but it does a great job reintroducing into the characters that made us laugh until we cried.

Well, a lot of us, anyway. Anyway, the gang’s all here, including Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Dave Joechner, and, of course, Will Ferrell. Oddly enough, according to the movie’s IMDB page, these are the only four confirmed actors for the sequel. No word on Christina Applegate, although, Luke Wilson is rumored to be among the cast as well.

With that in mind, check out the official teaser, although, don’t get too excited to see it. At least not any time soon. Anchorman 2 isn’t scheduled until next year:

Naturally, something this monumental didn’t escape Twitter’s notice:

  • The Teaser Trailer for the Total Recall Trailer Is Live

As the remake assembly line out of Hollywood churns along unabated, the next big remake release on the horizon–aside the Spider-Man (unnecessary) reboot–is Total Recall. Starring Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale, the remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger summer movie hit is set to hit the screens on August of this year, and commemorate the event, the marketing push is now underway.

To get us ready for the movie’s trailer, Sony Pictures dropped a trailer which announces the full trailer, which debuts on April 1st on ABC during the Heat/Celtics NBA game. Considering the trailer trailer features some movie footage, I suppose we call it a teaser trailer, but the fact is, if it wasn’t advertising the April 1st trailer’s launch, would it even exist? As for the footage that was made available in the 30 second spot, well, it looks a little bit like The Fifth Element is being remade instead of the Paul Verhoeven/Schwarzenegger movie from 1990.

For those who may not be aware of what the movie is about, Geek O System has a snippet of the press release, which should make things about as clear as mud:

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) whom he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) – there is no one Quaid can trust, except possibly a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) working for the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy)….

I just hope they keep the ultraviolence Verhoven so masterfully featured in his version of the Dick’s story.

  • Total Recall Teaser Trailer For A Full Trailer

Ok Hollywood, it’s starting to get out of control. Teaser trailers announcing when full trailers are going to be available. Don’t get me wrong, Total Recall is a perfect movie for doing something so ridiculous. The original sci-fi classic is all about messing with peoples’ heads, so why not mess with potential movie-goers by teasing a trailer release?

You can watch the teaser below, and if you care enough, can read my thoughts on the trailer even further down…

Overall, there’s not much to love or hate about the trailer. I thought they created an accurate rendition of the chair everyone must sit in to experience Total Recall. The set pieces look fairly standard for a futuristic sci-fi flick. The trailer could have used more Bryan Cranston, who plays the movie’s villain, but I guess we’ll just have to wait for the full thing on April 1st.

Here’s the synopsis of the movie as well –

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

In an attempt to survive, the Cullens gather other vampire clans from around the world to stand as witnesses and prove to the Volturi that Renesmee is not an immortal child. • Prometheus Full Trailer Teaser Released Online

In true “Xzibit Yo Dawg” meme fashion, a new teaser trailer, for the upcoming full trailer, of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus has just been released. It should be noted that the full trailer is due to be released later this week.

Don’t even bother asking yourself why a teaser for a trailer is necessary, as it will only do more harm than good. Don’t get me wrong, I like teaser trailers for movies… but this is a teaser trailer for the full trailer. It just seems very unnecessary.

If you’re unfamiliar with Prometheus, here is the official synopsis:

Ridley Scott, director of ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner,’ returns to the genre he helped define. With ‘Prometheus’, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

What did you think of the teaser of the trailer? Does this new Hollywood trend annoy you? Let us know in the comment area below.
