  • Conan O’Brien Contract Extended For Another Four Years

Conan O’Brien is here to stay!

On Wednesday, May 14, TBS announced that O’Brien‘s late-night talk show Conan has been renewed for an additional four years. According to ABC13-Houston, the new contract will allow the show to run through 2018. The television network released a statement in regards to the renewal. President, head of programming for TBS, Michael Wright also praised the 51-year-old talk show host for the success he’s had with the show since it aired in November of 2010.

“Conan has not only brought an incredibly young audience to TBS but has also created a digital presence that draws millions of fans to his unique brand of comedy,” Wright, president said in a statement.

“In addition, Conan has taken his show on the road for memorable weeks in New York, Atlanta and last month in Dallas, and will be breaking new ground next year when Conan becomes the first late-night show to tape at Comic-Con. We couldn’t have asked for a better late-night host or a more enthusiastic ambassador for the TBS brand.”

Although Conan was renewed, its no secret that the show has seen a drastic decline in viewership. The show, which premiered with an impressive 4.1 million viewers, now only maintains an average of approximately 862,000 viewers, the network pointed out that there’s one advantage the show has. It still captures more adult viewers aged 18-34 than its highly ranked competitors Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and Bravo’s ever-popular Watch What Happens Live.

O’Brien‘s strong social media presence was also accredited for his success with adult viewers. The network also noted that the Primetime Emmy Award-winner currently has an estimated 10.7 million followers on Twitter and more than 2.5 million Facebook fans. The renewal is definitely a big win for all of the avid fans of the show.

    Yay for Team Coco!

  • Conan O’Brien Signs With TBS For Another Four Years

Chalk up another win for Team Coco.

The world of late night talk shows will be much different this time next year. David Letterman has already announced his retirement, Stephen Colbert will take his place at CBS, and Craig Ferguson is exiting The Late Late Show later this year.

However, TBS is sticking with Coco. The cable network announced at the upfronts in New York City today that it has officially renewed Conan through 2018. Head of programming at TBS and TNT Michael Wright explained the network’s decision, “Over the past four years, we have built a terrific relationship with Conan O’Brien and are thrilled to be extending his series for another three years.” He added, “We couldn’t have asked for a better late-night host or a more enthusiastic ambassador for the TBS brand.”

O’Brien has hosted Conan on TBS since 2010. Although the show averages about 800,000 viewers per night, Wright cited O’Brien’s ability to bring a young fanbase to the program. Additionally, Conan scores strong with the advertising-desirable 18-34 demo. The 51-year-old also has a massive social media presence with 10.7 million followers on Twitter, plus another 2.5 million Facebook fans.

Here are a few recent gems from his Twitter page:

Once David Letterman says “good night” for the final time next year, O’Brien will become the longest-running host of late night television. Late Night with Conan O’Brien premiered on September 13, 1993.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, O’Brien spoke about his journey and what he’s learned from his years on the late night circuit, “It’s very humbling to do this show. The thing you don’t know when you’re younger is you think it’s all about getting there. And then at one point people start to tell you, by your 25-year-old definition, you got there — but you’re still not satisfied. I won’t say you redefine what it is, but you realize the trick, as you get a little older, is especially in comedy to me — there are comedians who are still inspirational to me. Steve Martin is still the funniest guy in the room. Martin Short is still the funniest guy in the room.”

You can check out Conan weeknights 11/10c on TBS.

  • Halo 4 Release Date May Be Announced on Conan Tonight

Rumors are swirling around a Halo 4 news announcement that will take place on Conan tonight. Based on tweets from two Microsoft insiders, it’s clear that Conan O’Brien will be involved in the unveiling of some “big” news about Halo4, and with all of the details already released about the game, what else besides a release date could be considered “big” news?

The first hint of the announcement came from Alison Stroll, a Senior Producer for 343 Industries, the video game development studio working on the new Halo title:

A little birdy (or was it Andy?) told us @TeamCoco will have some big Halo 4 news tomorrow. Stay tuned! #incoming #wakeupjon 17 hours ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Thirty minutes later, Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb (“Major Nelson”) tweeted something similar, which was than re-tweeted by the @TeamCoco Twitter account:

Look for #Halo4 news on the way in the next 24 hours. Hint: @TeamCoco plays a part! 17 hours ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Meanwhile, The Verge is reporting rumors of a November 6th release date based on “reliable sources close to Microsoft.” They also state that the release date could be announced before noon today. The most accurate official release window announced so far is “Holiday 2012,” which means November 6th, if not a confirmed date, is at least a good guess. Multiple A-list video game titles will be released in the months leading up to Christmas.

With Halo 4 being Xbox 360 gamers’ most anticipated release for 2012, I’m willing to bet that Conan might see a bit of a ratings boost tonight. Especially if fans get to see something as spectacular as Conan in MJOLNIR armor – or Andy Richter as Cortana.

When you watch the new iPad commercial you are transported to a world where people are using their “magical pane of glass” in real world applications across the globe. The ginger head late night host is up to his shenanigans again after recently a video was posted to his TEAMCOCO YouTube account poking a little fun at at the Presidents recent Google+ hangout video conference. Let’s just say the surprise guest is, as Sammy Davis jr. woud say, one talented cat.
