  • Cara Delevingne Fooled Folks With Fake Ink Job

Cara Delevingne and Katie Holmes wore very different outfits to the Met Gala this year. Holmes wore a sleeveless dress designed by her date, designer Zac Posen. Cara Delevingne wore a black Stella McCartney jumpsuit.

But Cara Delevingne and Katie Holmes did have something in common about their preparations for the ball. Both featured items that fooled onlookers. In the case of Katie Holmes, it was a bob hairdo that she teased photos of, fooling people into thinking she had cut off her long locks.

For Cara Delevingne it was ink. Seemingly permanent tattoos of plum red flowers with spiraling branches, birds and blossoms and covered Cara Delevingne’s arms and neck, peeking out from the cutouts of her jumpsuit and out from under her bun-up hair.

But these were not permanent tattoos. However they were inked on by the same tattoo artist that has done the permanent ones Cara Delevingne has.

Celebrity tattoo artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy worked with Cara Delevingne to design non-permanent decorative ink for her that would fit with this year’s Costume Institute Gala theme: “China: Through the Looking Glass.”

While the ink job was pretty extensive, McCurdy says Cara Delevingne “wanted the body art to occupy mores space and have her body be covered in it, but we weren’t able to do it with the time constraints.”

“I wanted to do something that added to Cara’s look without stealing the show,” he added. “The Met Gala is a big stage to bring tattoos to and I wanted to do something that worked.”

While Cara Delevingne is certainly not the first person to use paint markers, which stay on for about 10 days, to decorate herself, there is talk that her using this technique so publicly may start a fashion trend.

  • Your Apple Watch and Your Tattoo Don’t Get Along, Confirms Apple

Your Apple Watch and Your Tattoo Don’t Get Along, Confirms Apple

Apple has confirmed that yes, your arm tattoo is probably messing with your Apple Watch.

Earlier this week, some new Apple Watch owners discovered something rather troubling – their shiny new devices weren’t working quite right. Turns out, their sleeve tattoos were interfering with the Apple Watch’s heart rate monitor, which uses infrared or green light. Those with ink found that the Apple Watch’s sensor wasn’t detecting when it was removed from their wrist, an issue that messed with notifications and the passcode locking.

The darker the tattoo, the worse the problem – or so people claimed.

    Now, Apple has confirmed it.

The company has updated its support page explaining heart rate detection with the Watch to say the following:

Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.

If you’re not able to get a consistent reading because of any of these factors, you can connect your Apple Watch wirelessly to external heart rate monitors such as Bluetooth chest straps.

There are workarounds, like turning off the wrist detection feature – but that eliminates some of the convenience of the Watch. It’s possible that Apple could remedy this siutation with a software update, but until now you’ll just have to deal with the fact that your Apple Watch and your tattoo do no get along.

Maybe move the watch to the other arm?

  • Ariana Grande Snaps Neck Tattoo On Instagram

Ariana Grande has always been a great singer with an outgoing personality. Well-known for her debut single “The Way,” as well as her role as Cat Valentine in Nickelodeon’s Victorius and Sam & Cat, Grande has taken her personality to a new level by getting a tattoo on the back of her neck, which can easily be hidden by her amazing long hair, which constantly changes color and style.

Grande, 20, was born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida, and started her professional career with her role in Victorius in 2010; however, when “The Way” was released in early 2013, Grande soared in popularity as the hit peaked to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in April 2013. This past January, Grande confirmed reports that she is currently working on her second studio album.

This past Friday, Grande posted a picture of her newly inked neck tattoo on her Instagram account. With her hair pulled to the side, the inscription on the back of her neck reads “mille tendresse.” According to Google Translate, the French phrase converted into English translates to “thousand tenderness.”

Grande also posted a picture on Instagram of herself getting the tattoo, as well as giving props to Romeo Lacoste, a well-known celebrity tattoo artist.

In a report from MTV on Grande’s new ink, the article states that the French quote is from the Audrey Hepburn classic Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Grande admitted that she loved the movie and that it was one of her favorites as stated in a Twitter reply from 2010.

  • Ireland Baldwin Sports Some New Ink

Ireland Baldwin Sports Some New Ink

Ireland Baldwin, daughter of 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin and actress and model Kim Basinger is sporting some new ink these days, including a tattoo of a bra on her wrist. The 18-year-old debuted her new art on Monday.

A selfie posted on Instagram features Ireland lying on a bed as though she were sleeping–one arm (her left) up near her head. A lotus tattoo is now accompanied by a new depiction of a pink bra with a perfectly centered black bow. Some commenters loved the artwork, while others commented that hey hoped the tattoo was a fake instead.

Check out the sexy photo–captioned very simply, “zzzzzzzzzzz,” for yourself.

Ireland Baldwin is a model and is known for sticking to her daily fitness routine. Other recent Instagram photos have featured her workouts, with one in particular showing her very shapely hind end–up close and personal. It’s a bona fide booty shot.

The booty shot was captioned, “2014.”

It would be interesting to learn how Ireland feels about no longer being an only child–don’t you think? Dad Alec and his wife Hilaria welcomed a new baby girl named Carmen into the world just a few months ago. There doesn’t seem to be any animosity there so far anyway. Alec–known for his often irrational public outbursts–was pictured in yet another one of Ireland’s many Instagram photos featuring both of his girls–with Ireland giving baby sister Carmen a kiss.

How do you suppose Alec Baldwin likes his 18-year-old daughter’s choice of ink? It’s quite likely that even if he vehemently opposes it there’s not a thing he can do. She’s the headstrong kind who doesn’t much care what anyone thinks–even if it’s her dear old dad.

What do you think of Ireland Baldwin’s tattoo of a pink bra? Is she simply fond of fancy lingerie or is there a much deeper meaning that lies beneath the incredibly creative–and incidentally very well done–ink?

  • Tattooed Jesus Uproars Local Texas Community

All kinds of billboards upset all kinds of people–that’s just the blessing and curse of advertising; however, there are some billboards out there that publicize their message over the line, or do they? A small community in Texas believes so, where an image of Jesus covered in tattoos has been placed in public view.

According to ABC News, a billboard of Jesus with his torso covered in tattoos has appeared along a West Lubbock, Texas, highway advertising the website JesusTattoo.org. This website, according to its about page, is owned by “a small group of people humbled by the love of Jesus. We are not a church. We are not selling anything. We encourage you to tell as many people as possible. That’s it.”

The terms stated on the tattooed Jesus’ torso include: “Outcast,” “Addicted,” and “Jealous.”

With West Lubbock, Texas, residing in the “Bible Belt” community, the billboard has sparked quite a lot of controversy with local religious and non-religious residents. The billboard has also received a lot of support as well, so the views of the town on the billboard’s content are mixed.

Some of the reactions from local residents of West Lubbock, Texas, are provided below:

“I don’t like the picture. I think it’s very derogatory.”

“I’m thinking more like it’s something that’s blasphemous, negative.”

“But you know, it’s a testament of our sin and nobody’s perfect.”

“I just think that if you want to express how you feel about God or anything, you can put that on your body.”

  • Army Tattoo Policy: We Want YOU To Join The Army… Unless You’re Inked

The United States Army is looking for fine, upstanding citizens willing to come forth and lay their lives and well being on the line for the good and betterment of their country, land of the free, because of them, the brave. The Army sees beyond your race, religion, and gender (or so they say) and cares only about the ferocity and passion in one’s heart for their country– unless, of course, you have tattoos. Those are a no-go.

The changes to Army Regulation 670-1 concern things such as hygiene and personal appearance for soldiers in the Army, and the proposed legislation would only effect them; other branches of the military have individual guidelines and rules when it comes to appearances. The bill has not yet passed; it awaits the last step of receiving a signature from the Sergeant Major before it is put to action.

While the proposed changes involved other aspects of appearance, such as make up, hair styles, and nail polish, the only confirmed changes to the policy were about tattoos. While the army already prohibits tattoos that are sexist, racist, or otherwise blatantly problematic, the new rules could enforce restrictions prohibiting tattoos visible below the elbow or knee, and anything above the neckline.

The new regulations, if passed, could make protocol for soldiers to cover the costs for removing any tattoos that would break the new dress code, and could even lead to higher-ups having the authority to order soldiers to remove tattoos that didn’t adhere to the code.

The large consensus is that the incoming stricter guidelines are to make soldiers seem more uniform, and would act as a form of “sacrificing for the sake of the force.” Any changes enacted are expected to be implemented in thirty to sixty days.

  • Theresa Vail: Miss Kansas Shows Tattoos

22-year-old, Theresa Vail, is a senior at Kansas State University. She is representing her state at this year’s Miss America pageant. What makes Vail different from all of the other contestants? She is the first to proudly display her tattoos during the pagaent. Even though she gave everyone a heads up, via her blog, that she would be making her tattoos visible during the competition, she still managed to shock the judges and the viewers.

“I am writing this post just weeks away from competing for Miss America because I do not want to shock the nation when I’m seen in a swimsuit, bearing my marks. I want to explain the meanings and reasons behind them, and why I am opting to show them proudly.”

Aside from her obvious beauty, Vail has many other qualities that make her unique as well. She is a sergeant in the Kansas Army National Guard’s Medical Detachment, a bow hunter and an expert marksman. Not the typical profile for a beauty queen.

“I love breaking stereotypes. I love doing what society says I shouldn’t because of my gender,” she told ABC News’ “20/20.”

“What I really want is just to inspire people by showing my tattoos,” she said. “That’s a bold move! And it’s risky, it could very well cost me the crown. And if it does, I just want people to see that you can step outside of the box, you can be yourself. And I can only hope that it inspires them to do the same.”

Vail goes on to explain the meanings of her tattoos that she proudly displays. One of them is the “Serenity Prayer.”

I was growing up amidst the bullying and neglect, I found myself asking God on a daily basis to give me peace in knowing I cannot change certain things about myself, but also asking Him to give me the strength to change things that I had the power to. Praying to Him for these characteristics got me through my adolescent years, high school and boot camp. When I was 20 years old, I knew I wanted to always be reminded of my past and its connection to this prayer. Thus, I chose to have it tattooed onto my body. I have no regrets.

The other tattoo is the military medical insignia that signifies her service in the military. “The second is the military medical insignia. Though much smaller than the prayer, the significance is just as great. Since I was a child, God placed a strong passion for service into my heart. Service to my Country, and service to people through medicine. In the middle of this symbol is the letter ‘D’ to represent my dad, whose influence was paramount in choosing this career path,” she wrote.

  • Kat Von D, Deadmau5 Break Up; Did He Cheat?

Kat Von D, the Hollywood-based tattoo artist who has been a reality star for years, has had a rocky relationship with DJ Deadmau5. The couple began dating last year and Deadmau5 proposed to Kat over Twitter in December after they broke up and then reconnected in November. Now, it looks like Kat has called it quits for good and posted on her Twitter account that her fiance wasn’t faithful.

The couple seem to have made Twitter their official venting spot, as several times over the course of the relationship both of them posted updates about it. Over the past couple of days, Kat has announced the breakup, accused him of cheating, and moved on.

Deadmau5 also vented a bit on Twitter, but then released this statement on Facebook:

“Kat and I split in November and I moved back home to Toronto. During this time, while we were broken up, I did have relations with another woman. Following that, Kat and I reconciled and I acknowledged being intimate with another person while we were estranged. We did move past those issues and I proposed to Kat in mid-December. At the end of June, it was clear that the relationship was not working and we mutually ended the engagement.”

Kat has been linked to several musicians in the past and has also been engaged to Sandra Bullock’s ex, Jesse James.

  • Heidi Klum Is Erasing Seal From Her Body

Heidi Klum Is Erasing Seal From Her Body

Heidi Klum had a much-publicized split from hubby Seal last year, and since then she’s moved on, finding happiness with her bodyguard Martin Kristen and focusing on her kids and career. Now it looks like she’s ready to remove Seal from her life in other ways; the mom of four is slowly having the forearm tattoo of his name surgically removed.

The process–which is painful, costly, and has to be repeated several times–is usually done by laser and takes a while to complete. Klum was spotted out with her kids recently, however, and the ink looked pretty faded.

This is why tattoo artists warn against inking someone’s name on your body…true love is rarely forever. Just ask Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.

  • Motorola’s New Electronic Tattoo Is Going To Scare Some People

“It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.”

That’s Revelations 13:16-17, the famous Bible verse describing the fabled mark of the Beast. In recent history, evangelical Christians have claimed various technologies (barcodes, RFID chips, etc) would be this mark. Well, get ready to hear people claim Motorola is the devil because it just revealed what may be the closest thing to the mark as described yet.

The Verge reports that Motorola SVP for advanced technology and projects, Regina Dugan, was at the All Things D conference showing off two new technologies the company is working on. The first is an electronic tattoo that the company thinks might revolutionize wearable computing. So far, wearable computers have been watches or glasses. What happens when they’re implanted directly into the skin?

Well, certain people (i.e. evangelical Christians) are going to get scared. If a RFID tag around the neck sends them into a flurry of apocalyptic visions, just imagine what a tattoo would do.

If the tattoo scares them, the other project at Motorola will send them into panic fits. It’s a pill with an embedded chip that’s activated by stomach acid. After swallowing said pill, the entire body becomes an authentication token that can be picked up by various machines.

The average person will probably be more concerned about the privacy implications presented by such technologies, but that seems to be par for the course when it comes to new wearable (or ingestible) computers. The fear of a mystical fire demon cataloguing sales seems pretty tame compared to being tracked all day and every day from a chip inside your stomach.

Still, privacy proponents and apocalyptic scholars have nothing to worry about in the immediate future. These technologies are still very far off. They are in development though so get those Beast watch conspiracy Web sites ready.

UPDATE: It should be noted that Motorola is not in cahoots with a secret society to mandate tattoo tagging. The above Bible verse was only provided for context in the larger discussion on technology and how it’s often at odds with religious groups. Thanks to Kevin Mullet for pointing how it could be potentially confusing.

  • Obama: Daughters’ Tattoos Come With A Price

Obama said recently that if his daughters ever make the decision to ink themselves, he and Michelle will make them pay in the form of embarrassment.

The president apparently isn’t a fan of tattoos–at least not on his kids’ behalf–and says that if they ever come home with one, he and their mother will get the exact same design in the same spot on their bodies before showing it off on YouTube as a “family tattoo”. Of course, for two girls whose parents are the most famous and recognizable people in the country, one would think their embarrassment tolerance is a bit more elevated than that.

“Our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that’s a good way to rebel,” Obama said.

  • Lohan Triangles Tattoo Meaning Revealed

As Lindsay Lohan strives to piece back together her career while avoiding further legal troubles, the tattoos on her body have become the subject of much internet speculation.

Today, the New York Post is reporting that Lohan’s triangles tattoo has some sort of “spiritual” meaning to the actress. Lohan reportedly received the tattoo last year, getting a tattoo artist to come to her mother’s house for the job. She and “close friend” Liam McMullan are reported to have gotten identical tattoos at the time to symbolize some sort of “deep spiritual bond.” The Post’s unnamed sources told the paper that the tattoos supposedly symbolize the “dangers out there” and “two spiritual energies inside each other.”

The tattoo in question is of two thin red triangles, one inside of the other. Below the triangles is the phrase “What Dreams May Come” – a reference to Shakespeare’s famous Hamlet soliloquy.

Besides having the personal meaning of her tattoo leaked, Lohan has hopped into bed this week with Charlie Sheen on the TV series Anger Management. She also, like many celebrities, tweeted her support for same sex marriage:

  • Netflix Tattoo Scores Guy Free 1-Year Subscription

Netflix Tattoo Scores Guy Free 1-Year Subscription

How much would it take for you to get a Netflix tattoo? Would you do it for a free year’s worth of the service?

If you think you love Netflix and their selection of streaming offerings, you don’t. Unless you’ve permanently inked the name “Netflix” on your body, you don’t really love Netflix. Yes, I know you watched all of House of Cards in three days. You still don’t really love Netflix.

Twitter user @TheRealMyron does. He loves Netflix a lot. TheRealMyron got a Netflix tattoo, and for his troubles received a free year of Netflix.

In case you were wondering, Netflix didn’t ask this guy to get a tatto in order to receive a free year. He just did it to show his love, tweeted the photo @Netflix and they responded with the offer. Social media done right? I guess?

Netflix’s streaming-only plan is $7.99 a month – so that means that TheRealMyron was awarded a prize worth $95.88 for his troubles. If Netflix decided to throw in unlimited DVDs too, that’s $191.76. And if they bumped him up to the Blu-Ray option, it means that his tattoo netted him $215.76

    Worth it!

  • Rex Ryan Tattoo Gets The Internet Talking (Obviously)

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has graced the cover of New York’s Daily News, thanks to a shot taken by one of the publication’s photographers, showing him sunbathing. While that by itself may have been enough to make headlines for some of the Jets “news” peddlers of the media world, the real “story” here is that Ryan was spotted with a tattoo on his arm, apparently featuring his wife in a Mark Sanchez jersey. Oh yeah, and she might be “Tebowing” (albeit, not very well).

    (image)

I probably don’t have to tell you about the QB controversy that has plagued the team (or at least reports about the team), particularly since the arrival of Tim Tebow ahead of this past season. Now, everyone’s talking about what this means about Ryan’s “loyalty” to Sanchez. For example, the big headline on the Daily News site itself says, “No wonder Tim Tebow barely played!”

    Right.

Some are not even convinced that it’s necessarily a real tattoo. It may or may not be, but it seems highly unlikely that Ryan is basing decisions that could affect his own job on his ink.

Still, if you ask me, I think he should have gone with an Antonio Cromartie jersey.

Let’s just leave this with some good old fashioned Twitter reaction:

  • Bad Tattoo Ink Caused Infection Outbreak in New York

A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine this week shows that an outbreak of bacterial skin infections in upstate New York is linked to a bad batch of tattooing ink. The outbreak of Mycobacterium chelonae infections occurred in the Fall of 2011 around the Rochester, New York area. The infection caused raised rashes on at least 19 people’s tattoos.

The study, which was a joint effort between the Monroe County Department of Public Health, the New York State Department of Health, the University of Rochester medical Center, Clinton Crossings Dermatology, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration, began when a dermatologist notified Rochester officials of a Mycobacterium chelonae infection in one of his patients. The common link of the tattoos was determined, and the cause was tracked to a gray ink used by a single tattoo artist in Rochester.

The artist had purchased the ink from a supplier at a tattoo trade show in Arizona. Investigators inspected the manufacturer’s operation, but did not find contaminated materials. The manufacturer voluntarily recalled the bad batch, and the unopened samples of the ink that investigators were able to test also contained the bacteria.

18 of the 19 patients that were identified as having the infection were treated successfully with antibiotics. The 19th “declined evaluation and treatment.”

The CDC states that bacterial contamination of tattoo ink can be caused by contaminated ingredients, poor manufacturing practices, or dilution with water that isn’t sterile.

  • Your Tattoo Is Currently Wanted By The FBI

One of the easiest ways to identify certain people is by their tattoo. Various crime organizations, most notably the Yakuza, use tattoos as a calling card. Others just get tattoos out of self expression. The FBI doesn’t care why you got it – they just want to store it in a massive database.

On Friday, the FBI sent out a request for information on any existing tattoo databases. The idea here is that they want to collect the information from local law enforcement to create a giant database of tattoos and what they mean. Specifically, the FBI is interested in a tattoo’s “possible meanings, gang affiliations, terrorist groups or other criminal organizations.”

The program is part of a larger operation from the FBI that is wanting to use biometrics to identity potential criminals. The FBI wants the technology to identify threats only through “voice and face recognition, handwriting, palmprints, scars, marks and tattoos.” It seems pretty reasonable considering that a lot of these things do help identify criminals. So what’s the big deal with the FBI wanting to create a database of tattoos?

Mashable repots that many immigrant communities are skeptical about the program and think it’s just a way to deport innocent civilians. It also raises a lot of civil liberty questions as such a program can lead to profiling – racial or otherwise.

Of course, this reeks of what we’ve been hearing about the NSA lately and their reportedly massive domestic spying program. The FBI could use biometrics information in a similar way to keep tabs on not just criminals, but everybody else.

Besides, if the FBI wants to target me with a tattoo, there are a multitude of ways around it. One of the easiest is to just warp your skin through weight gain or other methods that makes the tattoo ever so slightly different. The idea of creating an entire database centered around tattoos, which are easily susceptible to change, is all kinds of ridiculous.

  • FBI Enlists Makeup Vendors, Tattoo Shops For Help In War On Terrorism

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a collection of 25 fliers to assorted businesses in order to help promote their “Communities Against Terrorism” campaign. The fliers are designed to help employees easily identify “suspicious persons” who might be hiding some terrorism cards up their sleeves.

Different businesses received different fliers based on what industry they’re involved in, such as airport service providers, rental cars, and financial institutions. The fliers were released privately to the businesses but, as these things are wont to do, the fliers eventually made their way into the public.

While some businesses, such as the examples listed above, might be natural allies in the FBI’s anti-terrorism effort, some of the other businesses entreated to help the FBI are a little puzzling, to say the least. For instance, did you know that tattoo parlors and MAC makeup counters are popular watering holes for terrorists? Because they are! Well, at least according to the FBI. Check out the flier below that was issued to tattoo shops.

(As much as this sounds like a joke, I assure you this is real.)

    Tattoo Shops

So remember: the next time you and three of your best buds visit your local tattoo artist to get matching tattoos of some goofy character that supposedly means “bravery,” you may be getting profiled as a suspected terrorist. And for the love of god, don’t bring any friends that are missing any digits. Everybody knows those people are nothing but bad news.

Alternately, those of you who frequently add to your makeup collection might be causing a blip on the FBI’s radar as well. Here’s the flier the FBI issued to beauty/drug distributors:

    Beauty Drug Distributors

I’d just like to point out that “travels illogical distance to store” and “evasive or vague about intended use of products” perfectly describes every teenager’s first experience with buying condoms at a drug store. Might wanna consider keeping it in your pants, kiddos, or else you might be drawing some federal-level heat.
