  • Taraji Henson Talks “Empire” Character And Fashion

Taraji Henson has an amazing sense of style off-screen and is always on point.

But, Taraji Henson’s character on the immensely popular show, Empire, is even better at taking fashion risks and winning.

Taraji Henson recently told W magazine that people love Cookie and her fashion sense because she’s familiar to many.

Taraji Henson said of her character, “They want Cookie. They see her heart. They see her intentions. And they love her style — her style is 17 years behind the fashion curve, which makes the clothes a character on the show.”

That is highly accurate! Cookie’s fashion is a big reason that fans keep coming back to Empire.

Taraji Henson explained Cookie’s fashion evolution. She said, “As Cookie grows, you’ll see her fashion grow. And people love that — she’s a work in progress. The only thing that never changes is her spirit: To me, Cookie is living, breathing, walking truth.”

Surprisingly, Taraji Henson admitted to the magazine that she almost turned down the role of Cookie!

She said, “I was like, ‘This is stupid. Hip-hop — dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. But then I started to think, ‘Cookie is going to piss so many people off! She hits her son with a broom; she talks back.’ Clearly, this was a challenge.”

It’s a good think Taraji Henson decided not to turn down the role, after all! I just can’t imagine anyone else in that role.

  • Taraji Henson Talks Emotional Person Of Interest Episode

For those of you who watched the latest “Person of Interest” episode, you know what a tearjerker it was. For those of you who haven’t, you may want to stop reading now because spoilers are ahead.

In the very emotional episode that aired on Tuesday night, Taraji Henson, who plays Joss Carter, was killed while performing her job that she devoted her life to. Henson won over the hearts of fans during the two and a half seasons she spent on the CBS drama, and she is sure to be missed by everyone who watches the show.

Although it meant leaving the show, Henson says she was ready for a change and wanted to keep the show exciting. “Sometimes in TV you get too comfortable. You got to shake things up,” she said. “And I think that’s the beauty of this show. No one’s safe. Sometimes you got to shake it up, and I’m a ballsy girl so I was down for it.”

She also explained that when she took the role, she didn’t plan on lasting through the entire series. “I always knew that we would have a beginning, a middle and an end,” Henson told Entertainment Weekly. “You don’t tell the audience “Hey, she’s not gonna last!’ because that’s the whole surprise element, but that’s what’s so innovative about the show and that’s why I joined. We always knew we would do two, maybe three seasons.”

However, when it came time to film the last seen, Henson says it was not as easy as she thought. “It was sad. You portray a character for so long, you care about her and her life,” she said. “But art imitates life—it comes to an end unexpectedly. It was bittersweet, because I enjoyed portraying Carter. What a strong, powerful woman on television.”

Henson had some last words for all of Carter’s fans, “Carter will always be with you. Now she’s an angel, so she’s even more powerful.”

  • Taraji Henson: Shocking ‘Person of Interest’ Episode

Warning: Spoiler Alert for fans of the hit television show, Person of Interest, unless already up-to-date on episodes.

Taraji P. Henson has brought a raw depth to her superhero of a cop character, Joss Carter, on the CBS drama, Person of Interest. Fans have followed the character for two and a half seasons; however, unfortunately this is about to change. It is with heavy hearts that fans watched the most recent show where Carter died in action performing her job as well as being self-sacrificing in the process.

When questioned by Entertainment Weekly about the process for filming the last scene, Taraji Henson responded candidly. “The mood on set was bittersweet, even with the crew. We laugh and we joke, but at the end of the laughs, it was a sigh. I was trying to keep the spirits up, so all night I was cracking jokes and not hugging and getting too emotional with everyone,” Henson said.

Henson was not completely shocked to hear of her character’s demise, and explained the expectations she had when initially signing on for the role. “I always knew that we would have a beginning, a middle and an end. You don’t tell the audience “Hey, she’s not gonna last!” because that’s the whole surprise element, but that’s what’s so innovative about the show and that’s why I joined. We always knew we would do two, maybe three seasons,” she said.

Fans have been noticeably upset at the loss for the show, and have taken time to share their views on Twitter.

Henson explained her personal obligations for exiting the show when interviewed by TV Guide. “I like to leave people wanting more. I don’t like to be settled. I don’t think I’m at a place in my life where I can be on a television show for seven years. Movies are still calling me. At my age, that’s a lot because once that movie phone stops ringing, that’s it,” Henson said.
