  • FTC Sues to Block Meta From Purchasing VR Company Within

FTC Sues to Block Meta From Purchasing VR Company Within

The Federal Trade Commission is moving to block Meta from purchasing VR company Within, calling it an “illegal acquisition.”

Lawmakers and regulators are becoming more critical of acquisitions in the tech industry, especially when it involves a larger, market-dominating company buying up a smaller rival. Within currently makes the popular Supernatural fitness app, a category Meta clearly wants a foothold in.

The FTC is concerned the acquisition is just the latest example of Meta trying to extend its dominance in the VR market through buyouts rather than fair competition.

“Instead of competing on the merits, Meta is trying to buy its way to the top,” said FTC Bureau of Competition Deputy Director John Newman. “Meta already owns a best-selling virtual reality fitness app, and it had the capabilities to compete even more closely with Within’s popular Supernatural app. But Meta chose to buy market position instead of earning it on the merits. This is an illegal acquisition, and we will pursue all appropriate relief.”

The complaint also alleges that Meta’s attempt to purchase Within will result in less competition than if the company was willing to invest the time and resources necessary to create its own app.

The complaint alleges that Meta is a potential entrant in the virtual reality dedicated fitness app market with the required resources and a reasonable probability of building its own virtual reality app to compete in the space. But instead of entering, it chose to try buying Supernatural. Meta’s independent entry would increase consumer choice, increase innovation, spur additional competition to attract the best employees, and yield other competitive benefits. Meta’s acquisition of Within, on the other hand, would eliminate the prospect of such entry, dampening future innovation and competitive rivalry.

  • Winona Ryder Makes Her Way To ‘Supernatural’ Netflix Series

Winona Ryder Makes Her Way To ‘Supernatural’ Netflix Series

The 43-year-old actress Winona Ryder will soon make her Netflix debut. Coming 2016, Ryder will be starring in an untitled supernatural series.

Variety has confirmed that Ryder will star as a regular cast member in the mystery series. This will mark Ryder’s very first regular role on TV.

Ryder has briefly dabbled in television over the past few years. She has been a guest on TV shows such as Friends, Drunk History and Strangers with Candy. However, she is best known for starring in movies like Beetlejuice, Girl Interrupted, Heathers and Mermaids.

The eight one-hour episode series was previously titled Montauk. The show is set in the 80’s in a Long Island beach town where Ryder will be playing the mother of a two-year-old boy who vanishes without a trace. Though details are limited, top-secret government experiments and a creepy girl are involved.

Ryder will play the character of Joyce who will endure great adversity to rescue her son from supernatural forces.

TV Wise says Joyce will unexpectedly find “a strength she never knew she had in the wake of her son’s disappearance.”

EW confirmed that Ryder will be joined by State of Affairs and The Newsroom alum David Harbour. Harbour will be cast as the town’s police chief.

Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will executive produce the series. The Wayward Pines creators Matt and Ross Duffer have written and will direct the series so viewers can expect vibes similar to X-Files.

According to a statement released by Netflix’s vice president Cindy Holland, the Duffer brothers were assigned to work on the series since they have something unique to offer for the show.

  • Genevieve Padalecki and Jared Padalecki Welcome 2nd Son

Genevieve Padelecki and her husband, Jared Padalecki have welcomed their second son. The celebrity couple are both stars of television, and met on the set of the CW hit Supernatural.

Their second son was born on Sunday, and is the second child born to the Padalecki couple in less than two years.

Jared Padalecki is the star of Supernatural, a show which has aired on the CW since 2005, and is currently in its 9th season. He has been married to Genevieve since 2010, after falling in love on the set of the show.

On the show, Jared Padalecki plays Sam Winchester, and Genevieve has a recurring role as Ruby. The show focuses on two brothers who follow in their father’s footsteps when fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds including monsters, demons, and gods that roam the earth.

The birth of their second son came on Sunday, December 22nd, and the couple already have a 21-month-old boy named Thomas Colton. Genevieve gave birth to their baby at home, and Padalecki was excited to share the news, telling everyone over Twitter that she had given birth to a happy, and healthy boy.

In addition to her recurring role on Supernatural, Genevieve Padalecki has been seen a variety of television shows, while starting her career in theater. She got her big break in Wildfire, an ABC Family series, and has most recently been seen in Flashforward, which only ran for one season. She also appeared in the little-known film called Hated, a drama which came out in 2012.

The happy parents of Thomas Colton also broke the news in July that they would be having a second child, shortly after Jared Padalecki celebrated his 31st birthday at a Comic-Con party in California.

Jared and Genevieve Padalecki have welcomed their second boy into the world, and were very excited to share the news with everyone. The boy’s name has yet to be announced though, wonder what it could be? He continued to tweet about his birth, but would not reveal the name, blaming twitter’s 140 character limit as the reason.

  • Genevieve Padalecki Gives Birth to Baby Boy

Genevieve Padalecki–also known to some as Genevieve Cortese, wife of Supernatural star Jared Padalecki, gave birth to a baby boy–the couple’s second child–on Sunday. The two actually met on the Supernatural set and they tied the knot back in 2010. They are the very proud parents of a 21-month-old named Thomas Colton Padalecki. Their new baby boy made his way into the world during a home birth.

2013 has been a very big year for the Padalecki family. Supernatural began season 9 back in September and is going strong. Jared also landed at number 4 on Tumblr’s list of Most Reblogged Actors in 2013. Add to that the birth of their new baby, and 2013 really can’t be topped.

Jared and Genevieve Padalecki’s big news was announced by Jared via Twitter–and at first included a bit of a humorous (?) jab at Dallas Cowboys player Tony Romo.

Jared Padalecki also used Twitter to announce Genevieve’s pregnancy with both of their children. However with this second one, he didn’t finish the tweet before boarding a plane.

“Shoot! I got on a plane and THEN realized that my tweet wasnt finished! Not used to this 140 character thing. I confirm that Genevieve is pre,” he wrote at the time.

Jared is still teasing fans via Twitter. The family has yet to announce the new baby’s name.

Even though the Supernatural star may not have mastered social media, he has certainly mastered fatherhood. He will no doubt be forgiven all his Twitter blunders when the show returns to TV on January 14th at 9 PM. Hopefully at that point the actor will still be at home with his wife, helping with those middle of the night feedings.

  • Genevieve Padalecki Welcomes Her Second Baby Boy

Jared Padalecki, the star of the hit show Supernatural, and his wife Genevieve received the ultimate Christmas present on Sunday…a tiny bundle of joy. The couple, who met on the set of Supernatural , married in 2010 in Sun Valley, Idaho, and welcomed their first son Thomas in March 2012.

Jared announced the birth of his second son via Twitter. He first hinted at the birth in a humorous tweet aimed towards Tony Romo, and then he revealed the big news later, in a second tweet. “Hey yall- gen and I did, indeed, experience a holiday miracle yesterday: Tony Romo didn’t senselessly throw the game away,” Jared wrote on Monday. “Ok. For real 😉 My amazingly strong wife home-birthed a happy and healthy baby boy last night :). Please send love,” he continued.

Jared has starred on the CW series since it premiered in 2005. The newest season kicked off in September 2013.

  • Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki Welcomes Second Son

Jared Padalecki, star of the CW’s drama series Supernatural, and wife Genevieve Cortese welcomed a second son into the world on Sunday.

Padalecki joined what has apparently become a celebrity trend when he announced the good news on Twitter.

These days it’s common to see celebrities announce pregnancies and births on the social network. It seems that the days when that kind of news was announced via a publicist are long gone.

Jessica Simpson, Molly Sims, and Tori Spelling all used Twitter to let the world know they were expecting.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z announced the much-anticipated birth of their daughter Blue Ivy Carter on Twitter back in 2012. Other stars such as Roselyn Sánchez and Fergie posted birth announcements on Twitter.

Padalecki and Cortese married in February 2010. They also have a 21 month-old son, Thomas.

Padalecki, who was born in San Antonio, TX, has obviously been following his home state’s Dallas Cowboys and their injured quarterback Tony Romo. He took the opportunity to boast about the fact that his wife gave birth to their latest addition without the aid of anesthesia:

Padalecki has been a part of Supernatural since it premiered in 2005. He plays the role of Sam Winchester opposite Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester. The two brothers continue their father’s legacy by fighting demons, ghosts, and other supernatural beings that threaten the world.

Cortese stepped into the role of Ruby, a demon with questionable allegiance, in Season Four, replacing Katie Cassidy who filled the role in Season Three.

  • Insidious Sequel Scares Competition At Box Office

Insidious: Chapter 2, the sequel to the popular horror film Insidious in 2010, is scaring away its competition at the box office. The film was released this past Friday and it seems that people still love to watch horror on Friday the 13th, proving to not be unlucky in this case. Insidious: Chapter 2 gives audiences another scare as the haunted Lambert family returns and seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. The film stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as the parents in the family.

Insidious: Chapter 2, the low-budget horror film, debuted at No.1 with an impressive $41.1 million. The only other new film to debut this weekend was The Family, starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, which is about a mafia family attempting to hide their past and assimilate in society. The sequel ended up earning more than three times Insidious‘ opening weekend, although the original went on to gross $54 million total, according to the Los Angeles Times. The second film also attracted a young crowd, with 62% being under the age of 25. Meanwhile, Lee Daniels’ The Butler continued to make headlines in its fifth weekend, grossing $5.6 million to hit the $100 million mark at the North American box office.

Although Insidious: Chapter 2 has opened to an impressive weekend, The Conjuring still holds the record for the highest grossing horror film this year. The low-budget horror film continues to become even more popular after the success of films like Paranormal Activity and others. This film had a budget of only $5 million and it was co-financed by Sony Pictures, eOne Entertainment and FilmDistrict. FilmDistrict’s president of distribution Jim Orr said “The original Insidious generated a lot of goodwill and people wanted to see the next chapter. James Wan is an amazing director. Combine that with a Friday the 13th release date and you get this great result.”

Plenty of fans showed their support for the film over twitter as well, advising others to see the exciting new horror film.

This film was not able to defeat Hotel Transylvania, which holds the record for weekend openings in September, but it did become the No. 2 September opening of all time. Hotel Transylvania, an animated comedy starring Adam Sandler, opened to $42.5 million last year. The Insidious sequel was also one of the top debuts for a supernatural horror film, mentions NBC News.

Insidious: Chapter 2 leaped out to an impressive weekend partly due to it being Friday the 13th, but it is likely to continue its success as we move into the fall season as well, when audiences love to watch horror films as we all prepare for the excitement of Halloween.

  • Gishwhes Is Back: Prepare For A Week of Abnosome

Sometimes, the world can be a cruel and harsh place that sucks away your optimism and causes you to ask yourself, “Why am I here? Why am I doing this? Where did my faith in humanity go?” Gishwhes is here to answer those questions and restore your happiness, in the most abnosome (“abnormally awesome”) of ways.

Gishwhes is an intenrational scavenger hunt put together by actor of television series “Supernatural” fame, Misha Collins. Anyone familiar with the actor’s eccentric, golden-hearted tendencies is well aware that he is renowned for his charity work and general do-goodery, and Gishwhes is somewhat of a living embodiment of that aspect. As described by the official website, Gishwhes scavenger hunt items “range from the touching: ‘Take a picture of you hugging a war veteran’ or ‘Create a video of you visiting a children’s hospital and giving a puppet show’ to the weirdly sublime: ‘an image of a formal tea party replete with parasols, silverware and a string quartet situated in a junkyard or garbage dump’ or ‘a fully dressed storm trooper cleaning a pool next to a sunbather.’”

Gishwhes has previously broken the Guiness World Record for the world’s largest scavenger hunt with a shocking 14,580 participants from over 94 different countries and growing on a world-wide scale. People register as either individuals or teams during the registration period, and are then put together in full groups of fifteen people that they work with to complete tasks with over the course of a week.

Registration for this year’s events began on July 17, and closed about a week and a half ago, the website shutting down for that time so that teams could be formed. Teams were put together and given contact information a few days ago, and the the items list was finally released today around four o’ clock. Groups have begun the third annual Gishwhes, and the hunt is most certainly on.

While the list does change every year, some awesome items from previous years include; “Get a five-star general in uniform to swing on a children’s playground swing,” “Arrange a church choir singing “Eye of the Tiger” in a church,” and “Dress up (three people) like frogs and play “leapfrog” in your local Starbucks or chain coffee shop. We must see patrons and must hear “Ribbit!” each time you leap.” All of these events (and many others like them) are either recorded on video or in photographs, which are then submitted to Gishwhes for review. This makes for a plethora of entertaining evidence of the week-long extravaganza, such as these gems from the official website.

Bearing those images and this information in mind, don’t be alarmed at any of the oddities you might come across this week as the hunt commences. The writer, herself, is partaking in the festivities, and looks forward to both helping out great causes and making an absolute fool of herself. To participants and bystanders alike; merry Gishwes, and happy hunting!

  • 666 Park Avenue Promises Sex, Drama, and Demonic Forces

666 Park Avenue, which is based on the popular novel by author Gabriella Pierce, is scheduled to debut on ABC this fall. The show explores what happens when a young couple moves into an apartment complex that may or may not be the home of nefarious demonic forces. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the shows “Pretty Little Liars” and “Gossip Girl”, the producers seem to be taking this program in a direction that appeals directly to my love of the supernatural. Sure, it might be just another sexed-up drama with some demons thrown in for good measure, but, sadly, that’s enough to ensnare my attention. I’m not ashamed of that.

Of course, the film’s impressive cast is another reason to give this particular show some attention. In addition to featuring “Lost” alumni Terry O’Quinn and the lovely Vanessa Williams, the program will feature Dave Annable, Rachael Taylor, Robert Buckley, Mercedes Masohn, Helena Mattsson, and Samantha Jade Logan. Although those names don’t mean anything to me, I’m sure someone out there is excited about their participation in the ABC production.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, several individuals got a chance to see a screening of the show’s pilot. If their reactions are any indication of the show’s actual worth, then this could be one of the dramas to watch this fall. Keep in mind, of course, that these opinions come straight from the folks in attendance, so their positive remarks may have something to do with the fact that they were at freaking Comic-Con. Excitement has a way of clouding one’s judgment. I’ve been there many times myself. However, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

“his was a good concept. The cinematography looked cool and the play on history [with] the occult was cool. I’d recommend it [to fellow Lost fans] because [O’Quinn] still has that same style of acting,” one person said after the screening. Another added, “I liked Terry O’Quinn. It wasn’t really that frightening, [but] there were definitely things [in the pilot] that I want to find out more about, and hopefully I’ll watch the rest of it.”

Of course, not everyone was overly impressed with the show’s sexy supernatural offerings. “It’s a little slow for me. I’m not really engaged with the mysteries at all or the people. I kinda don’t care. [The acting] was fine. I mostly saw it for Terry O’ Quinn; he did okay. [The character] is no Locke, though,” one spectator commented.

“666 Park Avenue” will air Sundays at 10pm EST on ABC.

  • Sims 3 Supernatural Expansion Pack Announced

Electronic Arts (EA) today announced the newest expansion pack for The Sims 3. The expansion pack, called Supernatural, will launch this September and customers who pre-order it will receive a Plants vs. Zombies content pack with zombie clothing and pea shooter zombie defense turrets. The Sims 3 Supernatural features supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves, fairies, and witches. It also features spells, curses, potions, and other magical abilities.

“With a variety of deep and mysterious supernatural lifestyles to choose from, The Sims 3 Supernatural allows players to dive into powerful new gameplay that showcases a darker side of The Sims,” says Scott Evans, general manager of The Sims Studio. “This pack introduces a fresh perspective while maintaining the characteristic playfulness, humor and innovation of our studio. With The Sims 3 Supernatural, we are adding a wealth of rich creative possibilities, surprising new content and intriguing storylines to the world of The Sims 3.”

In addition to the supernatural Sims that can be created using the Create A Sim tool, there is an elixer that will turn unsuspecting Sims into Zombies, who will begin to attack the new town of Moonlight Falls. That’s right – you can start your own Sims 3 zombie apocalypse. The zombification elixir and other potions can be shared with other Sims 3 players.

Of course, a Sims 3 expansion wouldn’t be complete without new furniture. The Sims 3 Supernatural features gothic-style furnishings, magic mirrors, and sliding bookcases. However the content looks, it’s bound to be better than the Katy Perry version of The Sims 3.

  • Bigfoot Tracker Apprehended by Government Officials

One man was fined by two park rangers in February after he led a group of 31 people to trespass on to government land.

What makes the incident so peculiar is the reason behind the trek; the hikers were not looking for birds or flowers on this particular excursion — they were looking for proof of the existence of Bigfoot.

Matt Pruitt was leading members affiliated with The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization who were conducting field work at the Buffalo National River Park in Arkansas.

Pruitt claims that his trespass was a mistake:

“After scouting that location and having been very impressed with the area, I decided to conduct the expedition there. I immediately scoured their website to see if I needed any specific permits or passes to conduct such an effort there. I assumed that I had fully acquainted myself with the necessary information related to the usage rules and regulations of the park. I was wrong, and I paid for that mistake.”

Could the rangers have been sent to prevent Pruitt and his group from finding evidence of Bigfoot’s existence? One piece of information that sticks out in my mind is the fact that the rangers kept asking the group if they had filmed any of the area.

Parapsychologist Cal Cooper says the differences between believers and skeptics of the paranormal is their ability to accurately appraise coincidence.

Beliefs are also determined by multiple background factors (i.e. religion, culture, misinterpretation, and personality type).

Do you believe Bigfoot exists? If so, what do you think is the most compelling piece of evidence?

    I want to believe.
