  • ‘Final Girl’ Horror Film Supercut Gets You Ready For Halloween

Tricks, treats, pumpkins, costumes, and horror movies are just some of the necessary staples of Halloween, and what better way to get you the mood than with a supercut highlight reel that focuses on the some of the horror film industry’s most famous “final girls.” For those who don’t know, a “final girl” is the female protagonist who is still alive at the end of the horror movie, and she also one who usually bests the bad guy, be it Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, or a H.R. Giger-designed xenomorph. With that in mind, that should give you some idea of the characters that make an appearance in Vulture.com’s nifty video.

According to Vulture’s post, the term “final girl” was coined in 1992 by Carol J. Clover, a film theorist and professor of film studies, and her term fits perfectly. Unfortunately, the scenes are annotated with their appropriate movie , which means the “can you name all of the movies” game has been called off. With that in mind, did they leave anyone off? From here, the list seems pretty comprehensive; although, I question the inclusion of The Descent’s heroine. In the original ending, she didn’t make it out of the cave alive. Unfortunately, American audiences were treated to a tamer, happier ending.

If nothing else, this remix/supercut should give you a few more additions to your last second Halloween movie-watching marathon, and that’s always a good thing.

  • Supercut of Video Games In The Movies, The 80’s Win

Would you believe there’s more than 20 minutes worth of video game scenes in the history of cinema? Depending on how deep you want to dig in the annals of cinema history, it actually looks pretty easy. In fact, if you stay until the end of of the credits, you’ll see they actually left off some movies.

I think it’s safe to say that the 80’s ruled in terms of including video games in movies. As proven by the fact that Freddie Krueger killed some teens with the Power Glove. Not to mention that Kurt Russell’s character from The Thing, MacReady, completely ruined what was thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment because of losing a game of chess. They even did video game rage better in the 80’s.

  • Relive the Best Movies of All Time (According to IMDb) in 150 Seconds with This Supercut

Though it oftentimes leans toward the popular and recent, the IMDb’s Top 250 would be a pretty solid springboard for anyone wanting to get into film, or anyone trying to round out their film knowledge. Now, you can see all 250 films (plus 53 more) in the incredible 2 and 1/2-minute long supercut.

“This list does change infrequently, and I began the project over a month prior to November 1, 2012, so attention to my haters…Yes…I KNOW some of these movies are not on the top 250. 53 Titles to be exact (as of 11/1/12). However, none of my haters can tell me that any of these 303 titles do not exist on IMDB,” says creator Jonathan Keogh.

Check out a lot of amazing films in rapid fire below:

Awesome, right? It’s amazing that you’re able to identify so many of the films with only second-long clips. I guess it’s a testament to the superb editing.

  • The Dark Knight With Just The Joker

If you’ve been on the Internet for a decent amount of time, you’ve probably come across a number of supercut mash-up videos. Whether it’s the “F*cking Short Version” of The Big Lebowski or any of the multitude that came out after, these are common content items that live a good life on YouTube and various blogs. Now, thanks to the hard work of the folks at TheCussingChannel, we have another supercut for the ages, this one from The Dark Knight, featuring only the scenes where The Joker talks. On camera.

    Take a look:

According to their description, if they would’ve used every scene Heath Ledger’s unforgettable character appeared in, the video would be over 30 minutes long. Here’s what they kept:

Rules: Just The Joker, just the on-camera dialogue. Now, there are many shots in this film over the Joker’s shoulder, with the focus on the character he’s talking to… those lines didn’t make it… only the clips where the Joker is the focus of the shot (otherwise this becomes a 30-minute affair).

They also have individual links to the scenes they used, if you’d like to go that route. Bonus, the video has under 1000 views at the moment, so those of you who like to get in on something before it pops, here’s your chance.

Just don’t be so serious about it.

  • Tis The Weekend For Happy Mother’s Day Wishes

In the United States, Mother’s Day is being celebrated this Sunday, May 13. While folks rush out and buy flowers, cards, and candy, some other, more creative folks are using web video to get their message across. It’s certainly the day and age for that sort of thing.

The first offering is a video called “Thank You Mom,” and it’s a Vimeo creation, courtesy of Michael Marantz. To get the content, Marantz went around New York with his camera, asking people if they’d like to volunteer their feelings of gratitude for the matriarchs. According to the filmmaker, the responses were great:

…some unexpected, some adorable, all brought a huge smile to my face. Thanks Reggie Watts for being in the video. I would be so grateful for all of you to share this video on Facebook and tag your mom or one you know in the post. My goal is to make many moms happy!

Judging by the video, Marantz succeeded very well:

You can share your collective “aww” in the comments.

The next video is another supercut, courtesy of Flavorwire. This time, featuring some of the best advice moms have given. TV moms, to be specific. Considering some of the shows that are represented in this video — Cosby Show, Arrested Development, The Sopranos, and The Wire, there’s no telling what kind of motherly wisdom you’ll find here. With that in mind, it’s probably advisable for you to ignore the bulk of it:

Hey, at least scenes from Mommy Dearest didn’t show up, because nothing says motherly love like beating the hell out of your children with a wire hanger.

  • MCA’s Opening Lines From Every Beastie Boys Song

Adam “MCA” Yauch was taken from us entirely too early after losing his battle with cancer. In the aftermath of the Yauch’s death, there have been a ton of heartfelt tributes and memorials for the fallen MC. Rightfully so. One of the best examples comes from Questlove of the Roots, who’s heartfelt post gives us great insight into the life of a hip hop artist while they are on tour.

It also gives us some great insight into the Beastie Boys, on and off-stage:

i was expecting the most hedonistic party all night sleep all day experience that spring of 95. all the stuff i heard? the “trim coordinators” the making out with madonna backstage madness, the switching places when the bell is rung? i mean I’m straight up….i was ready for some rowdy assholes to give me a gazillion stories id tell my kids for days. instead i got….

    nice guys?

…you really don’t see many audiences willing to go where their leaders take them once said audience gets comfortable with a position—i mean even the beatles imploded 5 years post spiritual enlightenment. i mean did we really expect the most thoughtful mature considerate act in music to be the same brats who gave us Licensed To Ill?

With those heartfelt words in mind, the following video is an incredible supercut, giving us just about every opening line MCA uttered as a Beastie Boy:

While some on YouTube point out some potential exclusions, the fact remains, the video is a fantastic compilation that gives people a great idea of the kind of talent we’ll be missing out on.
