  • Scott Weiland: 911 Transcript Reveals Stone Temple Pilots Frontman Found “Stiff” on Tour Bus, Ex-Wife Wants to Be Named Executor

    Scott Weiland, former frontman for the Stone Temple Pilots, was found dead on December 3. Now a transcript of the 911 call reveals he was found “stiff” on his tour bus.

    According to a report from Page Six, Scott Weiland died of a combination of drugs and alcohol. He was 48.

    In the 911 transcript, provided by the Associated Press, the caller tells a Bloomington dispatcher that Scott Weiland was “stiff” and “not moving.”

    “I think he’s dead,” the caller said, asking for an ambulance to be sent anyway. “No, he’s not breathing.”

    The caller added that Scott Weiland was “hard as a rock right now, not, not moving” as another dispatcher began telling the caller to do chest compressions on the singer. There was no heart defibrillator on the tour bus, according to the caller.

    Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts were scheduled to perform in Medina, Minnesota on December 3. The show was cancelled a week ahead of time, however, for lack of ticket sales.

    The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says Scott Weiland had cocaine, alcohol and the amphetamine MDA–similar to ecstasy–in his system. The medical examiner also noted Weiland had a history of cardiovascular disease, asthma, and multi-substance dependence. His death was ruled accidental.

    Even though Scott Weiland was married to his third wife, Jamie Wachtel, at the time of his death, his second ex-wife, Mary Forsberg has filed papers to become the legal executor of his estate. Forsberg is the mother of Scott Weiland’s two children–15-year-old son Noah, and 13-year-old daughter Lucy. There is over $2 million in assets in Scott Weiland’s estate.

    Mary Forsberg penned a letter in Rolling Stone magazine following Weiland’s death, begging people not to “glorify” the tragedy of Scott Weiland’s passing.

    “The truth is, like so many other kids, they lost their father years ago. What they truly lost on December 3rd was hope,” she wrote, including thoughts from her children as well.

    A hearing date set for February 5 should determine whether or not Mary Forsberg will be named executor.

  • Scott Weiland: Bandmates Release Touching Video, Track

    Scott Weiland got a moving tribute recently from the remaining members of Stone Temple Pilots when they posted a video of the group putting together a song called “Atlanta”, and they say it highlights Scott’s true talent.

    Weiland, Robert and Dean DeLeo, and Eric Kretz put the song together for the album No. 4, but the video shows the band letting Weiland take over with just an acoustic guitar, and the result is a portrait of the singer’s genius.

    “It really is remarkable, what he came up with,” Dean DeLeo says.

    “Having the opportunity to listen to these tracks individually reveal the beauty of Scott’s lyrical and melodic gift. This is one of the many musical moments we shared together. It is in this way we would like to remember Scott,” the band wrote in a statement.

    Weiland died earlier this month while on tour with his band The Wildabouts, passing away in his sleep from complications relating to a combination of drugs. The musician had battled drug and alcohol abuse for years, and while his friends and family were aware of his issues, it didn’t make his passing any easier to bear; he left behind a wife and two children.

    In his 2011 memoir, Not Dead And Not For Sale, Scott wrote about finding happiness.

    “This memoir took me unknowingly to new highs and new uncharted lows. The human heart filled with sorrows and gold inspired me to dig further through this marathon or labyrinth in order to get the answers, find truth, and forgive injustices endured in order to move forward happy mostly, sad lovingly, and purged of the nightmares of the past. It’s been a grand endeavor. But worth it,” Scott Weiland wrote.

    Scott Weiland was honored Monday by his remaining Stone Temple Pilots members after his death earlier this month from mixed drug toxicity.

    Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz released a video, which revisits the band’s former singer Scott Weiland’s most powerful vocal performances.

    In the seven minute video, the three bandmates are seen sitting at a mixing board listening to the song Atlanta, which came from the band’s 1999 album No. 4. The threesome share the their memories of recording the track together and find themselves immersed in the power of the music. Playing with the control panel, the group eliminates all backing vocals and music, leaving only an acoustic guitar and Weiland’s beautiful, resounding voice.

    “Recently the three of us sat down together to share our memories of Scott and take a moment to reflect on the amazing times we shared,” the band said in a statement. “We put the master up of a song called Atlanta from the No. 4 record that we feel really highlights the true brilliance of Scott. We would like to share it with you.

    “Together let’s honor Scott…Memories of Candles and Incense. Having the opportunity to listen to these tracks individually reveal the beauty of Scott’s lyrical and melodic gift. This is one of the many musical moments we shared together. It is in this way we would like to remember Scott.”

    In 2013, Scott Weiland was fired from Stone Temple Pilots and the DeLeo brothers and Kretz continued to perform under the band’s name.

  • Scott Weiland, Ex-Stone Temple Pilots Frontman, Dies At 48

    Scott Weiland, the ex-frontman for the rock band Stone Temple Pilots, was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota on Thursday. He was 48.

    On tour with his new band, the Wildabouts, Reuters reports Scott Weiland died of cardiac arrest in his sleep.

    Weiland was born in California and openly admitted to an ongoing history of cocaine and heroin abuse. He was kicked out of the Stone Temple Pilots in 2013 for what his bandmates deemed “destructive behavior.”

    Scott Weiland symbolized the grunge look of the 1990s, with “growling vocals” and his dyed red hair.

    Several noted musicians and celebrities have expressed their sadness over Scott Weiland’s passing via Twitter.

    Scott Weiland is survived by two children and his ex-wife, Mary Forsburg. She wrote in her 2009 memoir–titled Fall to Pieces–that she and Weiland once took a limo to rehab, together.

    Scott Weiland’s debut album with the Wildabouts debuted earlier in 2015.

  • Linkin Park Frontman Joins Stone Temple Pilots For Concert, New Single

    Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington made a surprise appearance over the weekend at a Stone Temple Pilots concert. Even more surprising, he had teamed up with the band on a new single.

    FMQB reports that Bennington appeared on stage with Stone Temple Pilots on Saturday at the Weenie Roast concert. As part of the set, Bennington performed a number of the band’s classic hits, but they also debuted a new song called “Out of Time.”

    Of course, Bennington won’t be a full time replacement for recently ousted Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland. Instead, the band says they “thought it would be cool to try something together.” Fans of Bennington will be pleased to know that Linkin Park will remain his priority.

    As for Bennington himself, he said that he was thrilled to work together with Stone Temple Pilots:

    “I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me. When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”

    Scott Weiland Fired? It’s News to Him

    Has Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland been fired from the band? Yes, according to a statement from the rest of the band. But apparently it’s all news to him.

    Earlier today the band announced that they had fired Weiland in a one-sentence release:

    “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.” That’s all it said – nothing more.

    According to Rolling Stone, the rumors all began a couple of months ago and were perpetuated by Slash.

    “Slash doesn’t know anything about STP. We’re talking right now about when we want to tour next,” he told the magazine on Tuesday.

    Within the last hour, Weiland issued a statement on his Facebook page. In it, the singer seems a bit perplexed as to how he has been fired from his own band:

    I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out.
