LeBron James: Will He Be On Mount Rushmore?

LeBron James of course knows that there is no Mount Rushmore of the NBA. However, if there was, the Miami Heat superstar thinks that his face should eventually be carved into it. A clip from an interview with NBA TV’s Steve Smith asking King James who his personal Mount Rushmore was leaked online. James told Smith that the easy three would be: Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan. The fourth Mount Rushmore face took James a few extra seconds to consider, in the end he went with Oscar Robertson.

Then Smith asked the easy layup question about whether he thought he would be considered one of the four greatest NBA players and deserve to bump off one of men that he listed. King James responded with a yes, he explained his thought process. “Because I’m going to be one of the top four to ever play this game, for sure. And if they don’t want me to have one of those top four spots they better find another spot on that mountain. Somebody’s gotta get bumped, but that’s not for me to decide. That’s for the architects.”

The 29 year old does have a good case. He’s been in the league now ten full years. He has four MVP awards, two consecutive NBA Championships, two Finals MVP awards, seven All-NBA first-team selections, five NBA All-Defensive first team considerations, and 10 All-Star selections.

Plus, he can put down an impressive dunk.

The clip has captured a lot of attention and has even gone viral. Of course, every basketball fan has their own opinion regarding the legacy of the game and their own opinion of the man that refers to himself as “King.”

You can see the full interview on Monday, February 17th at 9 PM ET on NBA TV.

  • Steve Smith, Panthers Wide Receiver Will Be Out Week 17 Against Falcons

Steve Smith has become one of the elite wide receivers in the NFL while playing for the Carolina Panthers. Due to a recent injury in an intense game against the Saints, he will be forced to sit out for the final game of the season.

Although Steve Smith has been the favorite target of Cam Newton for much of the time that the two of them have been playing together, he will have to turn to someone else as his main receiver on Sunday.

The offense struggled without him in week 16, and without the help of another late comeback from superstar quarterback Cam Newton, they may have lost to the Saints, and hurt their chances of making the playoffs.

Brandon LaFell is now the main target for Newton, and should have what it takes to get the job done until Steve Smith can return. Ted Ginn has also been doing well lately, and is likely to step up in the absence of Steve Smith

He is likely to make an appearance for their first round of the playoffs with the MRI revealing the injury to be not quite as serious as he might have thought.

He said he heard a “pop” in the first quarter of their last game, but the MRI has revealed that he has a PCL sprain, which should not keep him off the field for too long.

With their last win at home against the New Orleans Saints, the Panthers secured the second spot in the playoffs, and with another win on Sunday, they could make their chances of getting a top spot even better.

The NFC playoff picture is wide open heading into week 17, and with only 3 teams that have clinched so far, anything could happen still in terms of seeds, and the teams that make it.

The Carolina Panthers are currently one of the hottest teams in the league, and even without Steve Smith, Cam Newton should have no trouble leading them to another victory against the Atlanta Falcons. The Panthers are 11-4 in the NFC South, meanwhile the Falcons have an opposite record of 4-11, and have continued to struggle throughout the season.

If the Panthers are to play in the first round, which would take place next week, coach Ron Rivera believes that Steve Smith would be ready to get back on the field. He said that he would never bet against him, and as one of the leading receivers in the NFL, and a leader on the team, he will be missed on the field.

  • Steve Smith Makes Aqib Talib “Another Notch”

Steve Smith has been an NFL wide receiver since 2001. Over the past 12 years, Smith has not only earned the reputation of being a great football player, but also a great trash-talker. Apparently Aqib Talib had yet to receive the message before the game between Carolina and New England on Monday Night Football.

In a contest which pitted the injury-riddled Patriots against the surging Panthers, Smith was able to showcase his two primary talents early on. On the Panthers’s second play of the game, quarterback Cam Newton connected with Smith for a 42 yard completion, much to the chagrin of Patriots cornerback Talib. The embarrassment would continue for Talib as Newton completed a pass to Smith just three plays later, resulting in a first down in Patriots territory.

So how did Talib deal with the embarrassment of being outplayed by Smith during the first drive of the game? By grabbing Smith’s foot and holding on for dear life, of course. (One can only imagine that Talib was thinking, “If he can’t run, he can’t score on me.”)

Talib and Smith would continue their antics as the Panthers neared the red zone, with more pushing and shoving between the two which had to be broken up by teammates and officials.

This type of play from these two individuals should come as no surprise. As previously stated, Smith is known for his trash-talk. However, Smith is also known for just being an aggressive dude, having broken the noses of two teammates in the past. Talib is no push-over, though; The Patriots’s cornerback was charged with assault with a deadly weapon for shooting at his sister’s boyfriend, charges which were later dismissed.

Unfortunately for Talib, he lost on three accounts Monday night. 1) He was burned by Steve Smith on the field, who led the Panthers in receiving yards; 2) Talib’s team lost the game; and 3) Smith got the best of Talib off the field after the game.

When talking to a reporter after the Panthers’s victory, Smith gave some parting training advice to Talib in response to Talib not being able to play the entire game: “Ice up, son. Ice up.” And once again, the insults would not end there. In a post-game interview with USA Today Sports, Smith stated that Talib had become “Just another notch on the bedpost,” which Wiktionary defines as a phrase deriving “From the practice of keeping track of the number of one’s sexual liaisons by carving notches into the post of one’s bed.”

I’m not sure if that is he exact meaning Smith had in mind by using the phrase, but if so, one could guess that cornerbacks will afford Smith a bit more personal space in the future.
