While it may be tempting to watch the latest Star Wars installment from the comfort of home, the International Business Times (IBT) is warning that doing so could be dangerous.
According to the IBT report, security firm Kaspersky Labs has found some 30 fraudulent websites claiming to stream the new film. In reality, the goal of the sites is to capture unsuspecting users credit card information.
The security firm also found 65 malicious files disguised as downloadable copies of the film. The files are actually malware designed to infect the devices they are downloaded on.
According to a Kaspersky researcher: “It is typical for fraudsters and cybercriminals to try to capitalize on popular topics, and ‘Star Wars’ is a good example of such a theme this month.”
As with most things related to cybersecurity, better safe than sorry when it comes to the new film: watch it in theaters or wait for it to be released on DVD or Disney+.
“When I think about what is going on in our businesses and our world today disruption caused by technology certainly is a big issue,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger while sitting within the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland. “It’s one that I don’t necessarily get anxious about but one that I spend a lot of time on and am deeply focused on it. What we’ve tried to do is build a company that is capable of adjusting.”
Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, discusses the launch of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland (see video below) as well as how technological disruption is impacting media and advertising in an interview on Fox Business:
Disruption Caused By Technology Certainly Is a Big Issue
When I think about what is going on in our businesses and our world today disruption caused by technology certainly is a big issue. It’s one that I don’t necessarily get anxious about but one that I spend a lot of time on and am deeply focused on it. I happen to believe that because of the kinds of stories that we tell and the products that we have including Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic, Disney, Star Wars, FX, Avatar, to name a few, that we have products that are not necessarily bulletproof or invulnerable to change but are more likely to withstand that kind of disruption we’re seeing.
What we’ve tried to do is build a company that is capable of adjusting. This is not just in terms of our culture and the wherewithal, but capable of adjusting in terms of the kind of products we have to new forms of monetization and new forms of delivery. What Disney Plus and ESPN Plus and Hulu are designed to do is not only to grow as businesses to themselves but to be there for us as major alternatives in terms of business models should disruption get so acute that the current business model ends up being less viable.
We Priced Disney Plus To Be Very Accessible
We priced Disney Plus to be very accessible. What we are putting on are incredibly popular products such as Disney animated movies going all the way back to Snow White, the Star Wars films, the Marvel films, and on and on. Also on Disney Plus will be all the new things we are making. We wanted as many people across the world to be able to afford what they love which is all these properties.
I actually don’t believe that price is going to be much of an issue for us given what’s available in the marketplace. For people who maybe can’t afford to spend another $7 a month is it possible they will give something else up for it? Sure. Is it possible they will wait to subscribe? Of course. We purposely kept the price down so that it would be more affordable to more people.
Most Focused Initially on Net Subscribers
I think in terms of the metrics that we will be most focused on initially (with Disney Plus) it would be net adds or net subscribers. That’s probably the most important metric for the foreseeable future. Another metric will be just how much people are watching programs or movies that we put on. We are making a lot of original product including Star Wars product with a series called The Mandalorian.
We’ll watch carefully in terms of what’s being consumed. We don’t have any worries about it. We bought a technology platform called BAMTECH. It’s going to be a great means of delivering a good experience to consumers. We certainly have an ample library of products through television and movies and we have a lot of original content being produced.
Advertising Will Find Its Way To the Consumer
I think there will be channel consolidation (in the future). I don’t know about companies. We are a little spent right now I should say. We’ve got a lot to digest still. I think you will see some more consolidation. More importantly, I think there will be consolidation in the types of products that are brought out, particularly channels. There will be fewer channels globally in five years than there are today.
Advertising will find its way to the consumer. Hulu sells advertising and more than the majority of people who sign up for Hulu are watching Hulu programs with advertising in it. We know there is advertising on Facebook and advertising on a variety of new platforms. It’s not on Netflix and won’t be on Disney Plus. I think the advertiser, given the technology that’s available and given the data that will be available, will find its way to the consumer, a way of delivering their messages.
Harrison Ford may have hung up his hat as Han Solo after The Force Awakens, but the origin story has yet to be told.
In May of 2018 the Han Solo movie will be released and auditions for the young Han Solo are underway.
On Tuesday’s episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show, Harrison Ford was asked if he had any advice for those young men auditioning for Han Solo, to which he replied, “Don’t do it.”
Harrison Ford joked that job security in Hollywood isn’t what it used to be.

He said, “First, it seems like everything’s going swimmingly. And then you spend 25, 30 years and they just let you go. They show you the door. ‘We’re done with you. Thanks very much.’”
Harrison Ford was referring to Han Solo’s offing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a fact which he celebrated on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday.
“I argued for 30 years for this to happen and I finally wore them down,” Ford said, revealing that he had been pestering George Lucas to kill off Solo since Return of the Jedi.
Oh, and also Harrison Ford was making the rounds to confirm that he is coming back for another Indiana Jones movie.

How exciting!
Are you excited to see Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones again?
Harrison Ford has hinted that he just might appear in future Star Wars films.
The 73-year-old actor who played Han Solo in several Star Wars films, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday as he continues to make the press rounds for the Blu-Ray release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, due April 5.
“I think it’s quite clear that I’ve got nothing better to do,” Ford told Kimmel about his visit to the show.
Ford also talked about the news that he’ll reprise his role as Indiana Jones. He and director Steven Spielberg are set for a fifth film slated to come out in 2019.
“I’m excited about this,” Ford said. “The opportunity to work with Steven again on this character which has brought pleasure to so many, not to mention me — it’s great fun to play this character.”
Star Wars plot twists are just the best and Harrison Ford may have fueled a Star Wars theory that I’ve been working on myself.
I was skeptical that Han Solo really died in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and I don’t think I’m the only one. I mean, general movie plot rules usually say if you don’t see the death occur, no fate is certain.
Of course, I just couldn’t believe they would actually kill off Han Solo, a deeply loved foundational character. But, Harrison Ford said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday that he thinks Han’s death was a long time coming.
Ford said of the Star Wars shocker, “I argued for 30 years for this to happen and I finally wore them down,” and revealed that he has been pushing for Han’s death since Return of the Jedi.

Yay!
Do you have an idea about where Star Wars will go from here?
Daisy Ridley has confirmed that she is being considered to play Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter at the Empire Awards in London on Sunday, Ridley revealed there have been talks about her picking up Angelina Jolie’s iconic character, although she has not been offered the role.
The 23-year old Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress explained that she was waiting for film executives to give her the green light on the role made popular on the big screen by Jolie.
“I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it’,” Ridley said. She also confirmed there is no script for the planned reboot yet.
Ridley is currently filming the 8th installment of Star Wars, but when asked if she could make time for Tomb Raider, she said she would definitely find time for it. “Absolutely, I’m trying to fill up my calendar.” Daisy Ridley excitedly said. The English actress said she would grab the opportunity to play Lara Croft if she was given the chance.
While there may be people who might doubt her ability to give justice to the role, her Star Wars costar, John Boyega, believes Daisy Ridley “should be” Lara Croft.
“I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version. But I texted Daisy (and) was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft,’” Boyega told the Hollywood Reporter.
Reports say Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will write the script, while Roar Uthaug is said to be directing the film.
Harrison Ford may be one of the most respected actors in Hollywood today, but there was a time when he was a virtual unknown in the film industry.
Late actor Alec Guinness proved that when he referred to Ford, then aged 35, as a “rangy” and “languid” actor who is “probably intelligent and amusing” in a written correspondence that dates way back in 1977.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor Oscar Isaac read the letter in Letters Live, an event in London that celebrates the “power of literary correspondence.”
However, Isaac, 37, joked to the audience that he would not dare attempt an impression of Guinness while reading his letter to a friend, Anne Kauffman, during the filming of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
In the letter, Guinness said that everyone on the set was treating him like he was 106, although he did point out that he could not say that he was enjoying the film.
“New rubbish dialogue reaches me every other day on wadges of pink paper, and none of it makes my character clear or even bearable,” said Guinness, who was 62 when he filmed A New Hope.
It was apparent in the letter that Ford, 73, was then an unknown in Hollywood, whose name Guinness even failed to remember right away.
“I must go off to studio and work with a dwarf (very sweet, – and he has to wash in a bidet) and your fellow countrymen Mark Hamill and Tennyson (that can’t be right) Ford – Ellison,” said the Obi-Wan Kenobi actor of Harrison Ford.
Aside from Issac, Shakespeare actor Benedict Cumberbatch also made an appearance on Letters Live and read a letter from Mark Twain addressed to a poet, Walt Whitman, while his co-star Louise Brealey read letters written by two sweethearts who were separated during World War II.
Daisy Ridley is the recent victim of a body shaming meme that says she is setting “unrealistic expectations” among young girls for being too thin.
Ridley shared a screen grab of the controversial Instagram post showing her Star Wars: Force Awakens character saying “Who cast me anyway? Don’t they know real women have curves?” in a speech bubble.
Responding to her critic, Daisy Ridley explained that “’real women’ are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave, have families, don’t have families,” before adding she is a “’real woman’ like every other woman in this world.”
Ridley then deleted her response along with the original photo that started all the fuss and replaced it with a post urging everyone to be kind and tolerant of one another. She also called to her fans to refrain from sending hate messages to her basher.
In her new post, Daisy Ridley wrote: “It is much more hurtful to continue to slate other women than BE a woman, BE a character, BE whoever you want to be.”
She then added that she will not apologize for how she looks, what she says and how she lives her life. Ridley, proving that she was not setting “unrealistic expectations” among young girls, reiterated that like any other ordinary woman she is “striving to be the best version of myself even if I stumble along the way.”
The 23-year-old actress also revealed in her post that she received misogynistic comments after sharing a post in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Ridley ended her post with a reminder: “Remember that expression, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Kindness isn’t going to cure the world of all its awfulness but it’s a good place to begin.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in digital format this coming April, and included in the Blu-ray and DVD release are a number of special features and some intriguing deleted scenes from the film.
Disney teased fans with Star Wars’ new trailer for the DVD and Blu-Ray release showing some behind-the-scenes footage during the filming process, but perhaps the most interesting part of the trailer is Kylo Ren boarding the Millennium Falcon. Ren is seen entering the ship after Stormtroopers checked the vessel for life, and uttering one word: “Solo.”
Cinemablend suggests the bit must be “part of the sequence on the planet Takodana” while Rey, and the others were there asking Maz Kanata for help. Some say it must have taken place on Starkiller Base as there were Snowtroopers present. It might also reveal some important information about Ben Solo that people have not previously known.
Fans of the film are surely intrigued by now since this scene has never been mentioned before, even by people who are connected to the project.
According to reports, there will be seven deleted scenes which will be part of the DVD, including the said scene with Kylo Ren. Viewers will get a chance to see how the actors and filmmakers prepared for the film, including the movie script reading, building BB-8, as well as how the production brought new fictional creatures to life. The digital version also offers a glimpse of how the lightsaber battle between Rey and Kylo Ren was done, an interview with the legendary composer John Williams about his work on the popular franchise, and an insider’s look into the magic of visual effects.
The Famous Lightsaber Duel Between Rey and Kylo Ren
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in HD DVD and Blu-Ray on April 5.
Daisy Ridley became a superstar practically overnight with her starring role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and although more big roles are certain in her future, she’s taking a break from the big screen–at least for the moment–to hit the recording studio. The difference between Daisy and most young actors who do the same thing is, well, she’s recording a song with an icon.
Ridley has been teasing fans about a duet with someone big for a while on Instagram, and this week she finally revealed who it is: Barbara Streisand.
Daisy said recently in an interview that her Star Wars director, J.J. Abrams, had kept people guessing with his hints that she was working with a big star but no one had even come close to figuring out who it was.
“I can tell you everyone’s guesses are way off. When J.J. said ‘superstar,’ he meant a legendary awe-inspiring jaw-dropping superstar,” Daisy said.
Ridley reportedly recorded the song on Saturday, but she’s been singing for quite a while. In fact, she would sing on set during breaks, and J.J. Abrams became an instant fan.
“One day on set, she just started singing and had the most beautiful voice I ever heard,” Abrams said.
Daisy–who worked at a pub before getting the call that she’d earned the part of Rey–said last year that she was glad to have Abrams at her side during filming, when she was still figuring out the details of how everything was going to work. The actress trained for months for the role, getting her body in shape for weeks of filming in the desert.
“I had to look like I could look after myself in the desert and drag and scavenging things across sand. Luckily, to have J.J. there, who is so kind and considerate and encouraging, and to have a crew of people who made me feel safe and not rushed and not pressured, that is precisely what took the pressure off,” Daisy Ridley said.
Darth Vader is about to show fans a side of himself not yet seen.
Of course, Darth Vader was cruel up until he was killed in Episode VI, but the new anthology Star Wars: Rogue One will show him in his early days as an in-the-trenches fighter.
Making Star Wars was privvy to some insider information on Darth Vader’s anthology.
It was reported, “The action sequences filmed are unknown, but there was work pitching the different ways Darth Vader could kill rebels on a battlefield with the Force and his lightsaber.”

It continued, “The storyboard ‘pitches’ showed decapitated rebels, people being dismembered by Vader throwing his sword, levitating bodies to make human shields, and so on. The art was more violent than what we’ve seen Darth Vader do on screen before.”
The anthology series from Disney will focus on individuals and their particular stories. Star Wars: Rogue One will not only highlight Darth Vader, but the rumor is that it will also introduce a new droid played by Alan Tudyk.

There is also talk of the introduction of Death Troopers, which are Storm Troopers dressed in black, that could add another level of darkness to Darth Vader’s tale.

Kelly Marie Tran was recently named one of the newest members of the Star Wars franchise, and people have being either intrigued or scratching their heads.
She may not have much experience in film acting, but Kelly Marie Tran is actually one of the most promising young comedians of today. Fans of the website CollegeHumor will probably recognize her from the numerous videos she’s been part of, such as these clever bits entitled, “Philosophical Truth or Dare” and “Are You Asian Enough.”

She then moved on to a few television gigs and became one of the lead roles in the single-camera TV series Ladies Like Us, in which she plays one of two best friends who are also members of an all-girl improv troupe called “Ladies Like Tea.” Prior to that, though, Kelly Marie was cast in the short-lived NBC sitcom About a Boy, in which she played a recurring character named Marguerite.

Her film acting credits include a guest role in the Lifetime digital romantic drama Fall Into Me, an appearance in the pilot of truTV’s sketch comedy show Adam Ruins Everything, and a supporting role in the Netflix indie film, XOXO.
A UCLA graduate, Kelly Marie Tran has shown a deep interest in acting and performing for quite some time. She has trained with some of the best comedic talents in Los Angeles, learning from esteemed improv groups such as iO West, Second City, and Upright Citizens Brigade.
Being cast in Star Wars is undoubtedly the biggest development in Kelly Marie’s acting career, judging by what it has done for former newcomer Daisy Ridley. The 23-year-old English actress was practically unheard of before she went on to star as Rey in the most recent Star Wars film, The Force Awakens.
No word has been said about the role that Kelly Marie Tran is going to play in the next Star Wars film, and people are wondering if it’s going to showcase her comedic prowess. Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern have also been officially announced as part of the cast.
Star Wars delighted fans with an official announcement confirming that the franchise has started filming the upcoming movie, Star Wars Episode VIII. The franchise made the big announcement on their website and on social media.
Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed that principal photography for Episode VIII has officially begun at Pinewood Studios in London on February 15, 2016. Disney also revealed a full list of cast members.
Star Wars teased fans with a short clip that shows shots of a bearded Luke Skywalker meeting Rey for the first time. The preview clip seemed to connect the cliffhanger ending of The Force Awakens and the upcoming episode. Luke Skywalker is played by Mark Hamill and Rey is portrayed by young actress Daisy Ridley.
The official website of the box-office hit franchise revealed a cast list which includes: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, and Gwendoline Christie.
Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro is reportedly joining the film. His role remains unknown but rumors claim that he is playing a villain. New cast members include Academy Award nominee Laura Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
“Rey took her first steps into a larger world in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII,” the release stated.
The upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. It is executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski, and Jason McGatlin.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is slated for release on December 15, 2017. The standalone film, Rogue One, will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is now filming, and the the Walt Disney Company has announced a few new additions to the cast.
The first is Benicio Del Toro and the second is Laura Dern – both well-respected and established actors. The third is relative newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
Of course, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis will all return as well.
Star Wars fans are quite familiar with Natalie Portman, who played Padme Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
But how familiar is Natalie Portman with Star Wars?
Not entirely, apparently. According to Portman herself, she’s yet to see the newest movie in the franchise, The Force Awakens.
“I haven’t been able to see it yet,” said Portman in an interview with Good Morning America’s George Stephanopoulos. “But I’ve heard it’s amazing and it’s so nice that it’s sort of this continuing part of everyone’s shared cultural knowledge.”
There you have it – Star Wars star Natalie Portman is likely the only person in the country yet to see the biggest movie of the year (decade?).
Of course, Portman is busy. Her new film, Jane Got a Gun, hits theaters this week. She’s also already completed there projects slated to come out in the next two years and is filming Jackie, in which she plays the iconic Jacqueline Kennedy.
She also recently stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to help perform the classic song “Iko Iko” with The Roots and Sia.
Adam Driver parodied his famous Star Wars character, Kylo Ren, in a skit while hosting Saturday Night Live.
The 32-year-old actor, who plays villainous Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and is also known for his role as Adam in HBO’s Girls, hosted SNL for the first time and was joined by musical guest and country singer Chris Stapleton.
In another skit, Driver and Vanessa Bayer portray a married couple who win Golden Globes, who embarrass their kids watching at home by giving them a shout-out during their acceptance speech and then proceed to party a little too much at the after party.
Finally, Driver shocks fans with a pretty good impression of Aladdin by performing A Whole New World with Cecily Strong … with a twist.
Driver also took a turn as the host of America’s Funniest Cats, integrating sound effects and the kind of commentary reminiscent of any of America’s Funniest shows. Things get a little cooky when two French women (played by Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon) who join him on the show to demonstrate how they do it back in their home country.
What did you think of Adam Driver‘s first appearance on SNL?
The Star Wars film franchise would not be complete without the ultimate villain, Darth Vader, and for some hardcore fans who have “missed” him in Episode VII: The Force Awakens, he is rumored to make a comeback in the upcoming spin-off film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Rogue One will be the first of many Star Wars films that Disney and Lucasfilm will have in store for fans, and reports claim that there will be a Star Wars film to be released each year.
The events in the upcoming film directly connect to the first scenes of Episode IV: A New Hope, in which Darth Vader pursues Princess Leia’s ship to recover the stolen plans for the Death Star.
In the spin-off film, a group of Rebel spies infiltrates the Death Star and steals some important schematics to find a weakness that Luke Skywalker and company would find out in Episode IV.
Because the events will take place in enemy territory, it is very likely that Darth Vader will make appearances here and there. Reports said that Vader will be a “prominent player in a few scenes and something to fear for the heroes.”
In fact, a team of designers led by helmet sculptor Brian Muir has reportedly recreated his costume in such a way that it resembles the one in A New Hope.
James Earl Jones, the person responsible for the original voice of Darth Vader, would also return to voice the black-caped villain, although another actor is said to actually wear the costume.
Aside from the return of Darth Vader, another main character that set to return [spoiler] to life is Han Solo, who will reportedly make a cameo appearance in the film as well.
Everyone knew that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was going to be a box office juggernaut, but in just 20 days the movie now has the title of highest-grossing film in US history.
Domestic totals for The Force Awakens have surpassed $760.5 million, the mark set by Avatar.
The official Star Wars site has issued this statement:
“[T]hanks to fans new and old, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the highest grossing film of all-time at the domestic box office, surpassing Avatar’s $760.50 million record in just 20 days. The movie also holds the records for biggest opening day at the domestic box office ($119.1 million), biggest opening weekend at the domestic box office ($247.96 million), and biggest IMAX opening at the domestic box office ($30.1 million), among many others.”
“We are proud of these records, but know that they would not be possible without fans’ enthusiasm and continued support. We feel it here and it drives us every day, and it will continue to in the very bright future of Star Wars. There has indeed been an awakening — and it’s all thanks to you.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that The Force Awakens still has a long way to go to break Avatar‘s international totals.
Adjusting for inflation, however, The Force Awakens doesn’t actually hold the domestic box office record. It’s in 21st place.
On editor, Mary Jo Markey, explains the placement of the Kylo Ren and Vader mask scene, saying, “That originally came much earlier in the film. It was scripted to happen after Poe and Finn escape from the Star Destroyer, and Kylo Ren would be berate himself for having seen that Finn was a traitor on the battlefield and not have done anything about it.”
i will NEVER go through mom's closet again for any reason
i touched it before I knew what it was
it was gold and metal
I'm scarred forever
She continued, “But we realized the moment was wasted there. It wasn’t a big enough event and and it came too early in the film.”
She then added, “We moved it to later in the film and made it about his fear about his father’s coming to the planet and his feelings of being pulled toward the light. It had a greater resonance there and greater importance for Kylo Ren’s character.”
Interesting! It does sound like that Kylo Ren scene made a much bigger impact than it could have from its former spot.
What do you think about the relocation of that Kylo Ren/Vader mask scene? Just right or do you think they should have left it?
You can expect Ridley to remain one of the top stars in years to come, as there is now no more highly-anticipated film than the next Star Wars. She’s already predicted another hit, saying the script is “very good.”
Ridley’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens character Rey has been the subject of some recent online back-and-forth, between some who think she is too perfect of a character – too strong and too talented in the film to be believable – and those who think that is nonsense.
I don’t know about you, but Ridley herself is pretty damn strong:
Daisy Ridley may be new in Hollywood, but she’s already giving people a glimpse of the type of projects in which she wants to be involved.
After starring in the extremely successful seventh Star Wars installment, The Force Awakens, the 23-year-old British actress is already gearing up for her next gig. This time, though, she won’t be showing her lovely face onscreen – instead, she will be lending her vocal talents to the highly acclaimed Japanese film classic, Only Yesterday.
The Japanese animated drama film, which was first released in 1991 by the famed Studio Ghibli animation studio, is coming to North American audiences next month. New York-based film distributor GKIDS acquired the rights to the English-language version of the film in anticipation of its 25th anniversary release.
Daisy Ridley will be lending her voice to the lead character named Taeko Okajima, a single woman in her late twenties who takes a vacation to her rural hometown to get away from her busy life in Tokyo. She then begins to have flashbacks of her childhood and spends her time trying to figure out the reason behind her strange nostalgia.
Apart from Daisy Ridley, other big names involved in the film include fellow Brit Dev Patel, who voices Taeko’s love interest, Toshio. Orange Is the New Black’s Alison Fernandez voices young Taeko, while Star Wars Rebels’ Ashley Eckstein voices Taeko’s sister, Yaeko Okajima.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Daisy Ridley praised Studio Ghibli for creating relatable stories, which she called “fantastical.”
“They are what so many people around the world can identify with,” said Daisy Ridley of Only Yesterday. “I think the reason probably this is such a loved film and will continue to be so is because it doesn’t feel foreign.”
Daisy Ridley Voices the Lead Character in This Classic 1991 Studio Ghibli Film
Daisy Ridley and Studio Ghibli fans around the world can watch Only Yesterday in cinemas starting February 26, 2016, but an exclusive screening will be held at the IFC Center in New York on January 1st.
