  • ‘Concussion’ Movie Starring Will Smith Sheds Light On Injuries Suffered By NFL Players

The movie Concussion premiered in theaters on Christmas Day, and tells the story of a medical specialist who discovers a degenerative brain disease that is linked to contact sports such as football.

In the Concussion movie, Will Smith plays a pathologist named Dr. Bennet Omalu who discovers a disease known as Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy or CTE, which affects athletes who have engaged in contact sports.

As the issue builds on how football leagues such as the NFL would take care of its athletes and prevent them from suffering from this disease, some former players have also weighed in on the discussion.

Former Oiler Warren Moon said in an interview that he suffered six concussions during his career, and he is now worried about their long-term effects on his health.

“Your brain gets rattled around in your skull, so it bruises your brain,” Moon said.

Moon, 59, remembered the different concussions he suffered, and recalled that some of them were very bad that he would occasionally lose awareness of where he was.

He was worried that due to the concussions, something bad would happen one day.

Hall of Famer Warren Moon Discusses the Consequences of Football-Related Concussions

While Moon still hasn’t experienced the adverse effects of the sport, other former players are not as fortunate. Some have reportedly suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, while others eventually died from their injuries.

One of the former NFL players who is currently suffering the consequences of his numerous concussions is Hall of Famer Harry Carson.

Carson, who played as linebacker for the New York Giants in the 1970s and ‘80s, said that parents should be well-informed regarding what their kids will go through if they play football.

The Concussion Movie Delves into Brain-Related Injuries in the NFL

The Concussion movie which also stars Alec Baldwin and Albert Brooks, was supposed to spread awareness on this danger. However, a report pointed out that the film seemed to have softened some of the crucial plots, and script somehow focused its tone on other related issues, reportedly to avoid earning the ire of NFL executives.

  • Lindsey Vonn To Return To The Slopes For 2014 Alpine Ski World Cup Tour

Champion skier Lindsey Vonn is excited about returning to competitive skiing after taking a break due to a knee injury she sustained during the 2013 world championships. Vonn is hoping to join the Alpine Ski World Cup Tour in December at Lake Louise.

“So I have the whole month of November to get ready in Vail and, hopefully I’ll be in good shape and I’m looking forward to being on the podium again,” Vonn said.

Vonn’s injury kept her from competing at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. However, Vonn is setting her sights on competing in the 2015 Alpine Ski World Championships, which will be held in Beaver Creek, Colorado in February, the first time in the US since 1999. “Since I didn’t make the Olympics last year because of my knee injury, I feel like the world championships this year in Vail are going to be my Olympics. I’ve been waiting for the world championships to be in the United States for basically my entire career. I’m very much looking forward to it, and my friends and family will all be there, and of course the hometown crowd so hopefully I can pull something out of my hat for everyone,” she said.

As excited as she is, Vonn is reportedly taking it slow, too. For the World Cup, she will be missing the first four women’s races of the season and will join the competition for the downhill and super-G races at Lake Louise in Alberta in December. Vonn has been training cautiously with drills and some gate training, then progressing into super-G and giant slalom courses. However, she said that she hopes to train with the rest of the team eventually.

“I had heard a couple of interviews where other girls had expected me to retire, and that’s just not what’s going to happen. I’m very fired up for this season and I’m looking forward to being back in the starting gate and being aggressive again,” said Vonn.

  • Jadeveon Clowney Played Through Injury at USC

When the 2014 NFL Draft rolled around on May 8, there was no doubt as to who would be the number one pick. During his three years at the University of South Carolina, Jadeveon Clowney performed athletic feats that many would not have thought possible. His explosiveness off the line and ability to rush the passer vaulted him to national prominence in quick fashion, especially as his sophomore year came to a close. However, in his junior and final year at USC, many began to question Clowney’s work ethic as he finished the season with only three sacks and generally showed a lack of effort. One NFL executive had harsh criticism for Clowney, stating, “He’s spoiled, and he’s lazy. He’s never worked hard a day in his life, now all of a sudden you’re going to give him a bunch of money and expect him to work hard. I don’t see it.”

New news, however, may shine light as to why Clowney seemed so complacent during his last year in college football.

In an interview with NFL Media’s Gil Brandt this week, Clowney stated that he played through a sports hernia during his final season at South Carolina, surprising everyone, including the Texans organization.

At the time, Clowney had no idea that his injury was so serious:

Rather than continuing to play through the injury and potentially developing further complications, Clowney and the Texans decided the best course of action was to go ahead and have a sports hernia surgery: “I was kind of upset, because I would get behind. But Coach (Bill O’Brien) was like, ‘Just let it get better now than later on, when you might be out during the season.’ So we’ll just take the time to get it right now,” reported Clowney.

For the Texans, Clowney’s time off the field may be a blessing in disguise. Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel has unusual plans for the former defensive lineman, which mainly consist of playing him at outside linebacker.

“I fully expect that he will be an outside linebacker initially. He’ll start in a two-point stance, but anytime we go into any kind of package, whether it’s a third down package or a packaged predicated on personnel, down and distance, all those things give Romeo (Crennel) the ability to have him put his hand in the dirt and go get the passer,” stated Texans GM Rick Smith.

Considering Clowney is going to have to learn an entirely new position and memorize a full NFL playbook, this time in rehab could pay huge dividends to his learning curve once the NFL season begins.

Despite the surgery and the subsequent rehab, Clowney is still expected to participate in training camp at the end of July.

  • Jamie Varner Suffers Broken Ankle at UFC 173

Admittedly, UFC 173 was not billed as a blockbuster event. Most people dismissed the headlining fight between bantamweights Renan Barao and T.J. Dillashaw, seeing Barao as the much more talented fighter, having won his last 22 fights and going into the contest with a 34-fight unbeaten streak.

Fortunately for the UFC and Dana White, UFC 173 would go down as one of the most entertaining events in quite some time, with Barao losing handedly to Dillashaw in a stunning upset and another bout giving spectators that gut-wrenching, nauseating feeling of witnessing a broken limb.

Jamie Varner, a 29-year-old American who had lost three of his last four bouts coming into UFC 173, had no expectations of stealing the limelight. While he most certainly felt he had something to prove to continue in his second stint in the UFC, Varner did not realize the pain he would have to endure in order to assure himself of more fights in the future.

It became quite apparent early in the first round of Varner’s fight against James Krause that something was wrong with his left leg. Despite the injury, however, Varner continued to fight.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4sqUw8pqXc

Unfortunately for Varner, he did not receive much sympathy after he informed the doctors and referee that he could not continue the fight after the first round. During his days with the World Extreme Cagefighting, Varner developed a reputation of looking for ways to get out of fights instead of finishing them, something he continued to receive flak from following his bout against Krause.

During a post-fight examination, though, it was discovered that Varner did in fact receive quite an injury to his ankle during the fight:

An injury which was perhaps exacerbated by the ringside doctor:

While Varner did not win the fight, his grit and resiliency did not go unnoticed by UFC President Dana White, who had several glowing comments for Varner following his loss.

“Usually they’ll quit, guys will tap out and say ‘ahhh, I broke my ankle. There was no quit in that kid. That’s one of those situations where, he kept going. That’s a tough one,” stated White.

Despite certifying Varner as a “bad ass” and commending his courage inside the octagon, White did express common sense in the post-fight interviews: “If that was my guy, I would have thrown the towel in, in a second.”

Despite now having lost four of his last five contests, Varner hopes his toughness inside the ring will lead to another chance to prove his worth in the UFC in the near future.

  • Kevin Ware Will Transfer From Louisville To Finish College Career

Kevin Ware has made a big decision that could alter his future, and involvement with basketball. The Louisville guard was not able to play much of this season due to injury, and says that he plans to transfer to another school for next season.

Ware is the player that suffered a gruesome injury in a brutal game between Louisville and Duke in the Elite Eight during last year’s NCAA tournament. Through Kevin Ware’s support off-the-court, the team was able to make an incredible run in the tournament that ended with them becoming national champions.

Following his transfer from Louisville, ESPN reports that Ware is hoping to transfer somewhere closer to his family in Georgia, and potential landing spots include Auburn and Georgia State. He had previously committed to Tennessee when Bruce Pearl was the coach, and he has recently become the coach at Auburn.

Kevin Ware was a guard for Louisville, but even when healthy he did not get a lot of playing time due to the star power of Russ Smith, Peyton Siva, who graduated last year. However, he gained national attention following his injury last year. He was carried off the floor on a stretcher, and eventually had a rod inserted in the leg.

Ware broke his leg during the Duke game, and many people thought they may not be able to win another game in the tournament after the emotional incident. The game was stopped for a long time, and some players were crying on the court, following one of the more brutal injuries in the history of the sport.

He was able to return to the team back in November, and as everyone was wary of how he would be able to perform following the injury, he was only able to play in a few games before injuring the same leg again.

Despite not having Kevin Ware on the court this season, the Louisville Cardinals have had a fairly successful season, and had their sights set on winning another championship. They were given a No.4 seed in the tournament, and suffered a disappointing loss to their in-state rivals Kentucky last night.

Kevin Ware played his final game with Louisville on December 17, 2013, following another injury to the same leg. He decided to take it easy, with the decision to redshirt, he would be able to play for another season.

  • LeBron James Sits Out Boston Game Due To Back Spasms

It’s been a tough night for the Heat’s star player LeBron James as he was forced to sit and watch his teammates face the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. It would have been harder were he to play, considering the back spasms he has been experiencing.

Prior to this, James had missed two games in the past four months due to injury. The first was the Heat’s 108-107 win over the Portland Trail Blazers in December when he had a groin muscle injury, and the second was their 93-79 victory over the Chicago Bulls when he had a broken nose.

On a positive note, James sitting out Wednesday’s game means he would have two full days of rest before the Heat face the Grizzlies on their home court this Friday. In their game the previous night versus Cleveland, he scored 43 points to take the Heat to victory 100-96. He also finished with four assists, two steals, three blocks, and six rebounds. This season, he has been averaging 27 points, 6.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 6.9 rebounds per game.

There’s less than a month to go in the league’s regular season, and in light of the coming postseason games, Miami could be ramping up its player sit-out strategy to conserve their energy for the games where they will be needed more.

Aside from James, center Greg Oden also took the night off for precautionary rest. Taking their places were Michael Beasley for James and Udonis Haslem for Oden.

The Miami team is currently in a fierce competition with Indiana for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. The Heat are attempting to advance to four consecutive NBA Finals like the 1980s Celtics while also attempting to win three straight championships like the Lakers back in the early 2000s and the Chicago Bulls of the 90s era.

  • Rajon Rondo Will Likely Return To The Celtics By Friday

Rajon Rondo is finally nearing his return to the Boston Celtics after his injury. He could be ready as soon as Friday, and there is no doubt that he is needed on the floor with him being one of the top point guards in the league.

The Celtics have struggled without him, and after injuring his right knee about a year ago, he may be ready to return to the lineup.

The Celtics clearly need Rajon Rondo back after currently being on a nine-game losing streak, and while maintaining a record of 13-26. The loss of their other star players and the inexperience on the team has been hurting the Celtics.

He tweeted a message on Monday that could suggest that he is ready to return to the lineup on Friday, with the tweet being a number of seconds.

He posted a number that is equal to about 338 days, and would stretch from the time he was injured, February 13th, to this Friday.

Rajon Rondo would not give a specific date, but he has previoulsy said that he planned to make it back to the floor before the All-Star break, and the Celtics’ last game before the All-Star break is on February 12th.

He recently said “It’s just a feeling. ‘I’ll probably just wake up (one) morning and play.” He may be making the return before fans expected, and would be a great surprise for the Celtics franchise.

Rondo and the Celtics will be host to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Rajon Rondo’s return to the court is much-anticipated after the team lost him to the injury last year, which ended his season, and the Celtics were later eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Following their loss in the playoffs, the Celtics went into the rebuilding stage, and traded away Jason Terry, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Nets, while also losing Doc Rivers to the Clippers. Brad Stevens took over as the head coach. There were also reports recently of Rondo possibly heading to the Knicks, and being recruited by Carmelo Anthony.

Rajon Rondo is a four-time All-Star and a four-time All-Defensive selection, and a big contributor to the success that the Celtics have had in recent years. His return has been uncertain ever since the team announced that he would be having season-ending surgery following their win against Miami on January 27, 2013.

  • Jamaal Charles Left Playoff Game With Concussion, Chiefs Lose

The Kansas City Chiefs and their fans watching received a big scare when Jamaal Charles was forced to leave the game after a devastating head injury. He was not able to return to the game, and soon after he left, it was revealed that he had suffered a concussion.

Jamaal Charles is the starting running back for the Chiefs, and one of the top rushers in the league. Watching him go down on the first drive of the Chiefs’ wild card playoff game was a big loss to the team.

He had only three carries in the carries in the game, before leaving due to a concussion. Although the team originally stated that Charles was questionable to return while he underwent evaluation in the locker room, they downgraded him to an “out” status shortly after.

Despite the fact that the Chiefs gained a big lead in the first half, they lost it in the end during an incredible comeback by Andrew Luck. Even with 3 interceptions, Luck was not discouraged, and by the end of the game, he passed for 443 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Chiefs had the lead 31-10 at halftime, but a wild second half saw the Colts mount an impressive comeback, and win 45-44 one of the highest scoring games in the history of the NFL playoffs. It was also the second-largest comeback in a playoff game.

On the play that he was injured, Jamaal Charles was tackled by Colts cornerback Greg Toler and then knocked to the turf by defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton.

Although the Chiefs had a big lead at the beginning of the second half, without Jamaal Charles, they were not able to milk the clock, and continued to play as if the game were even.

Things were not going well for the running game of the Kansas City Chiefs, and with a little “Luck” on their side, it seemed that the Colts were determined to win the game. After defeating the Chiefs, the Colts will meet either the Broncos or the Patriots, depending on who wins today’s game between the Chargers and Bengals.

After Jamaal Charles left the game, he was replaced by Knile Davis. Davis is a rookie running back who has not had much playing time with Charles on the team, and later left the game with an injury of his own.

  • Adrian Peterson Will Sit Out During Final Game Of Season

As someone who is no stranger to injuries, Adrian Peterson has missed a number of games throughout his career. He will be forced to sit out during the final game of the season when the Minnesota Vikings play the Detroit Lions.

Unfortunately, neither team has anything to play for in the week 17 finale showdown in the NFC North. The Detroit Lions are now 7-8 after starting the season on top of the division and a record of 6-3 earlier in the year, while the Vikings have a record of 4-10-1, and have remained at the bottom of the standings throughout the season.

Adrian Peterson has been one of the top running backs in the league in the past few years, despite his multiple injuries, and has been named MVP.

However, with a star running back and not much else to work with on the offensive end for the Vikings, they have struggled to win during the 2013 season.

Peterson is being troubled in multiple places, which will force him to sit out, including a strained groin that he suffered last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, and a foot injury that he suffered earlier this month.

Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier has said that if the coaching staff felt like he was ready, then he would be out there, but he is not in the right shape to be playing. Just two weeks ago, he played in a game against the Eagles, finishing with an odd stat line, rushing 30 different times for only 51 yards, and scoring 3 touchdowns.

Adrian Peterson seemed to start the season off on a high note, with an impressive performance against the Detroit Lions earlier in the season, despite the loss.

He had also stated that he had a goal of hitting the mark of 2,500 yards on the season, a mark that he did not even come close to. The awful record for the Minnesota Vikings, as one of the worst teams in the league, is yet another disappointment in Peterson’s season.

He has continually battled multiple injuries during the season, which has limited his production on the field. In the 2013 season, he has rushed for 1,266 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 279 carries.

While this may seem like a lot for some running backs in the league, it is actually his second-lowest yardage total of Peterson’s career, behind only his injury-plagued 2011 campaign. Hoewever, he was still voted to the Pro Bowl somehow.

In addtion to Adrian Peterson, their star running back, Toby Gerhart will also be sidelined during their final game of the season. As a result, fans will see Matt Asiata take the field on Sunday against the Lions, in a game that neither team is looking forward to.

  • Lebron James Strains Groin Against Kings, Status Unknown

Well, it appears that the King James is human after all, and has suffered a groin injury in their recent game against the Sacramento Kings.

The Miami Heat lost a major contributor in their offense when Lebron James strained his groin during their game on Friday night.

In the game, he aggravated his left ankle injury in addition to the groin strain. The Heat lost to the Kings 108-103 in overtime, and as the injuries continue to pile up, they are set to head to Portland for a big game on Saturday night.

With Lebron James being absent from any games during the Heat’s season, it is a big deal, as he has been one of the top players in the NBA for every year that he has been in the league.

He is also one of the toughest players in the league, with it being uncommon for him to sit out due to injury, and he has actually played in no less than 91 percent of all available regular season games each season since he entered the NBA in 2003.

James leads his team in scoring, and even when playing through his injury on Friday night, the NBA All-Star scored 33 points, along with 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

When asked about the injury, Lebron James said “It’s not feeling too well right now. I don’t know what happened in the first half. I played [much of] the second half and overtime, and strained my groin. I’ll see how I feel on our trip to Portland tonight and into tomorrow.”

He has not yet announced whether he will be playing, but in a game that has been talked about for weeks, he would certainly like to be able to make an appearance. Ray Allen and Dwayne Wade both sat out during last night’s game due to knee injuries, and will hope to be able to play during tonight’s game.

The Heat will be on the road in Portland tonight, playing a team with the best record in the league, and a chance for each team to prove that they are the best. He says that he plans to announce whether he will play or not near the tip in Portland.

Despite battling several injuries that continue to nag him throughout the season, including his back and ankle, Lebron James has yet to miss a game during the 2013-2014 season. With a record of 22-7, the Heat are set to battle the Portland Trailblazers, and attempt to prove that they are still the best team in the league.

  • Russell Westbrook Has Surgery On His Knee Again

Russell Westbrook, the star player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, has been forced to undergo yet another surgery on his right knee.

As fans will remember, Russell Westbrook also got injured during the 2013 playoffs, leaving the first-round match-up against the Rockets. The Thunder would eventually lose to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference semi-finals.

Due to his most recent knee surgery, he will be forced to sit out until after the NBA’s All-Star break in the middle of February. The All-Star event is roughly seven weeks away.

In addition to not being able to play until then, Russell Westbrook will have to sit out during All-Star weekend too, an event that he has attended numerous times in the past.

His teammate and fellow All-Star, Kevin Durant, will have to attend the event without him, and after struggling without him last season, hopefully his absence will not hurt the Thunder too badly.

The Thunder announced on Friday that Russell Westbrook had undergone arthroscopic surgery, which also marks his third surgery since April.

Speaking on the necessary procedure that had to be done, Thunder president Sam Presti said “The consulting physician determined that arthroscopic surgery was necessary to address the swelling that was taking place. We know that Russell’s work ethic and commitment will help him return to the level of play that we have all come to appreciate.”

With his current estimated recovery timeline, Russell Westbrook is expected to miss a total of 27 games. The Thunder are currently tied for the top spot in the Western Conference, and along with the Portland Trailblazers. However, with Westbrook out, that may change, and they are only a game and a half ahead of the San Antonio Spurs.

After being led by two of the league’s best players in Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder boast and impressive record of 24-5. The Thunder and Trailblazers lead the league.

During the 2013 season, Russell Westbrook is averaging 21.3 points, seven assists and six rebounds during the 25 games that he has played in.

  • Brook Lopez, Center For The Brooklyn Nets , Out For The Season

In the next chapter of the Brooklyn Nets’ nightmare of a season, Brook Lopez has been severely injured. Lopez is the center for the Nets, and as a team that recently acquired hot talent from the Celtics, they were being predicted to win a title this year. Instead, they are struggling in the Eastern Conference, and only have a record of 9-17.

Brook Lopez broke his foot during their last game, and it is being reported that he may miss the rest of the season. The Stanford graduate also missed all but five games during the 2011-12 season after breaking the same bone in his right foot twice in quick succession.

It is unclear when he sustained his injury, since he played throughout their last game against Philadelphia, and recorded 22 points and 7 rebounds, playing through the fourth quarter and overtime.

The Nets ended up winning the game in overtime, 121-120, but that overshadows the fact that their star, Brooke Lopez, fractured the fifth metatarsal of his right foot during the game. Soon after, it was reported that he would be out for the rest of the season.

Despite his past injuries, Lopez is a key member of the Brooklyn Nets, and losing him for the season will be a huge blow to the team. As their only real center, Brook Lopez plays much of the time, and as a leader on the team, he is averaging a team-high 20.7 points, six rebounds and two blocks per game this season.

On a veteran team with stars such as Deron Williams, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, Lopez is also the only starter under the age of 29, and at age 25, he has been in the league for six years. He is the only true center on the team, and as a result, Kevin Garnett will be forced to play the center position, under their new coach, Jason Kidd.

Lopez is 7 feet tall, and added muscle mass while rehabbing from injuries, getting him up to 290 pounds in the summer, which made him a completely different player than he was before.

Brook Lopez played most of last year, but was again sidelined for eight games, due to his ongoing ankle injury. After breaking his foot for the third time in his career, this will raise questions about his future, and reminds fans of other centers who have had short-lived careers due to injures, such as Yao Ming and Zydrunas Illgauskas in recent years.

  • Wes Welker Will Likely Be Out Until Playoffs

Here is some scary news for fans of the Denver Broncos. Wes Welker, the star receiver who was recently acquired from the New England Patriots, is not scheduled to return to the team’s lineup until the playoffs.

The Broncos are set to have one of the top spots going into the playoffs, but as they are currently tied with the Chiefs, and only one game ahead of the Patriots, the last couple of games will play into their seeding in the playoffs.

With a victory in their next two games, the Broncos would clinch a first-round bye, and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Fortunately for the Broncos, the final two games of the season, which they will play without Wes Welker, are against two of the worst teams in the league. The Texans and the Raiders have a combined record of 6-22, and they will play the Texans and Raiders to close out the season, respectively.

Welker resumed light physical activity on Thursday, but today, it was announced that he would be ruled for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, and will likely not make it back until the playoffs. Wes Welker suffered two concussion in a span of three weeks, and is still recovering from the injuries.

His most recent injury came during a game agaisnt the Tennessee Tittans on December 8th when he left shortly before halftime. He suffered a neck injury in addition to his concussion, and also suffered a concussion in their win against the Kansas City Chiefs on November 17th.

Speaking on the injury of Wes Welker, coach John Fox said “The exercise is picking up. They’re doing more and more with him in the weight room, running around out here a little bit and … he’s doing better every day.”

The Denver Broncos started the season with unstoppable force as Peyton Manning set records as a quarterback, and the team went 6-0 before losing to Manning’s old team, the Indianapolis Colts.

The Broncos lost to the Chargers in their last game, while playing without Wes Welker, but will certainly expect more favorable results when entering Houston on Sunday.

  • Bengals Punter Fractures Jaw During Sunday’s Game [Video]

In one of the ugliest plays most people have been witness to as sports fans, the Bengals punter was severely injured after being hit during a punt.

The game last night between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers became witness to an awful looking play, in an incident when Kevin Huber suffered a broken jaw and cracked vertebrae.

Kevin Huber, the punter for the Cincinnati Bengals, had his punt blocked, and later in the play was leveled by Terence Garvin of the Steelers, causing him to leave the game.

Garvin’s helment hit Huber in the chin, and while there was no flag thrown during the play, it is likely that a hit such as this one will get him fined.

The injury came late on a 67-yard return of a punt by the Steelers’ Antonio Brown. The play eventually resulted in a touchdown for Brown, and the Steelers went on to win the game with a final score of 30-20.

When he left game, the Bengals’ punter had a bloody face, and due to the seriousness of his injury, he will be immediately placed on Cincinnati IR list. Huber’s jaw was wired shut after the game, and during kicks, he will be replaced by Andy Dalton as the holder.

    (image)

Upon seeing his teammate down on the ground, kicker Mike Nugent said “Seeing the way he was laying down there you are automatically thinking the worst.” It has become the worst, as the Bengals’ punter will be forced to sit out for the rest of the season, and miss the final two games.

Kevin Huber will be replaced by Nugent as the new Bengals punter. Huber played less than a quarter during their loss, and experienced a painful night on the field, literally. The Bengals were already down 14-0 when Huber attempted the punt that forced him to leave the game.

He remained on the ground for several minutes, and was finally able to walk to the locker room on his own, although he was not in good shape and was very bloody. The veteran Bengals punter had been in the league for five years, and certainly never experienced a hit like that before.

While it was originally reported that Bush had injured himself while slipping on the snow, he later denied that claim. He said that he was already fighting a calf injury and simply aggravated the pulled muscle while jogging before the game.

On Wednesday the running back stated that he simply wasn’t healthy enough to play, and did not want to chance it when saying “I didn’t fall. It was definitely icy out there. There was definitely a lot of snow, but I didn’t fall on the ground or anything like that. I was just out there jogging. I wasn’t even really going hard. I was just jogging, and it just grabbed on me.”

Watching from the sideline was hard on Reggie Bush, and he is determined to make it back to the field on Monday, in an important game against the Baltimore Ravens, as both teams battle to stay alive for the playoffs. He has never missed a game for a pulled muscle before, and looks forward to getting back on the field.

He explained his frustration in last week’s game further when saying “What was at stake, playing on the road and just being out there with my teammates. It’s always hard being on the sidelines, being a spectator. I hate it, so I look forward to getting back this week.”

The Lions have a big game while also playing in front of a national audeince on Monday night, and it will certainly help to have Reggie Bush back on the field. The Lions still remain in first place in the NFC North, but need to show up with better performances in the final three weeks of the season if they expect to stay there.

  • Wes Welker Injured In Broncos Win, Unlikely To Play Thursday

Wes Welker left yesterday’s game with a concussion, and it looks like it may be serious enough to keep him out of their next game. Welker is playing in his first season for the Broncos after enjoying great success with Tom Brady and the Patriots for several years.

During the Broncos game that was played on Sunday, Wes Welker was forced to leave before halftime, due to a hard hit that he suffered, which lead to a concussion. This is the second concussion that he has suffered in the past four weeks, after suffering the same injury against the Kansas City Chiefs on November 17.

In yesterday’s game, Welker appeared dazed following the hit that was delivered from Titans’ safety Bernard Pollard. He went low in an attempt to make a catch late in the second quarter, and received a hit in the head as Pollard tried to break up the pass.

Luckily for the Broncos, they have been able to win both games that he has been injured in, but Welker is one of the top receivers in the league, and certainly Peyton Manning’s favorite target on the field, just as he was for Brady. Despite losing Welker, the Broncos beat the Titans 51-28, and clinched a spot in the playoffs with a record of 11-2.

Wes Welker is now subject to the NFL’s concussion protocol, which baseline testing on Monday. Le’Veon Bell of the Pittsburgh Steelers also suffered a concussion recently in an NFL league that seems to leave players injured more often than in the past.

Unfortunately for Broncos fans, even if he were cleared to play this week through the test, he would still be unable to play in Thursday’s game against the San Diego Chargers.

The protocol states that a player who is cleared for activity the day after a concussion is only able to participate in the non-contact parts of practice on Thursday, and with this week’s game being on a Thursday, that does not allow him to play.

Along with Peyton Manning, Wes Welker has been an important part of the Broncos offense that has been destroying its opponents throughout the season, especially in the first half of the season.

Before leaving the game with his injury, Wes Welker was able to catch five passes for 61 yards and 1 touchdown. In the 2013 season, Welker has 73 receptions for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns.

  • Aaron Rodgers Has Not Been Ruled Out, But Return Is Unlikely

Aaron Rodgers has certainly been missed by the Green Bay Packers since his collarbone injury that he suffered on November 4th against the Chicago Bears. Seneca Wallace finished the game, and two other quarterbacks have had the opportunity to start in his place, while Matt Flynn has become the current starter.

Rodgers has not been cleared to play in Sunday’s game yet, but the possibility of him being able to play has not been ruled out yet. In the 5 games that Aaron Rodgers has been out, the Packers have lost four games, and tied once.

While Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the sport, fans probably did not expect such a downward skid after his injury. Matt Flynn, who took over for Rodgers the last time that he got injured was tossed around the league since then, and was just recently signed by the Packers in order to fix the problem at the quarterback position.

He went down early in their game against the Bears, a game that they would later lose. It was originally reported that the star quarterback would be out 3-6 weeks, and as this weekend marks the 6 week mark, it comes time for coach Mike McCarthy and Packers to reevaluate the situation.

Aaron Rodgers’ fate in the remaining games of season is uncertain at this point, and with the way the team has played without him, it is unlikely that they will be able to make the playoffs. With any injury, it is better to play it safe and not come back too soon, which Rodgers understands, and he does not want to chance anything.

He will have a limited participant in practice on Wednesday with Matt Flynn as the starter. In Sunday’s game, the Packers will play the Atlanta Falcons, a team that has had a lot of trouble winning this season.

Over the weekend, a source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rappaport that Aaron Rodgers would be “lucky” to play on Sunday, and recent comments from Mike McCarthy have done nothing to change that.

Upon seeing the x-rays, Rodgers said “We’re now four weeks and one day from my fracture. I’ve made a lot of progress. A lot of it is just the bone healing. Bone takes three to six weeks to heal. We all hoped we’d be on the short end of that. … I desperately want to be out there, but it has to look good.”

As one of the top players in the league, the Packers have missed Aaron Rodgers greatly, and would love to see him return to the field. However, if he is not cleared medically, then bringing him back on the field may not be the smart decision in this case. Coming off of a blowout loss against the Lions, the Packers have a record of 5-6-1, and since Rodgers left the field, they are 0-4-1, proving that they are unable to play without him. They are currently in third place in the NFC North.

  • Le’Veon Bell Suffered Concussion Against Ravens, Hopes To Play Sunday

Le’Veon Bell has been one of the top players on a struggling Pittsburgh Steelers team throughout the season. He is a rookie for the Steelers, and formerly the star running back for the Michigan State Spartans.

The young player is hoping to play against the Miami Dolphins in their next game on Sunday, but after suffering a concussion in their previous game, there are certainly doubts that he will be able to. He had an ugly goal-line collision with Jimmy Smith, a cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens, and forced him to leave the game.

Le’Veon Bell collided with Smith at the goal-line, while attempting to score a touchdown on a 1-yard run. The two players rammed helmets, and forced Bell to lose his helmet. While the play was initially ruled a touchdown, the call was reversed due to the fact that Bell lost his helmet before entering the end-zone. Any time that a player loses their helmet, the play is automatically called, in order to protect the safety of the players.

He did not know much about what was going on at the time, and following the hit, he mentioned “I didn’t remember it when it first happened. Once I came off the field I didn’t really know I had scored. Then they told me I did; then they told me it wasn’t a touchdown. I wasn’t aware of what was going on at the time because I got hit. I can’t really remember what happened.”

He left the game, and upon seeing a replay, Bell says he is lucky that the injury is not worse. After he left, the Thursday night game ended with a final score of 22-20 in favor of the Baltimore Ravens. The injury looks to be fairly serious, but it could certainly be worse.

Bell is hoping to be able to play on Sunday, but knows that there is a chance that he will not be able to. He is taking it one step at a time, and he said “I’m going to take it day by day and see where we’re at. I’m going to take it day by day and see where we’re at.”

After the big hit, Le’Veon Bell has said that he does not remember it happening, which is always scary to hear from any player. He is team’s best runner by far, and leads the team with 528 yards rushing and five touchdowns. If he is able to return, it would be a big boost for the Steelers, who are desperately trying to make the playoffs after a terrible start to the season.

  • Anthony Davis Is Out, Suffers Hand Injury

Anthony Davis Is Out, Suffers Hand Injury

Anthony Davis, one of the new stars of the NBA, injured his hand in a game on Sunday night. Davis is a forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, and a recent graduate of Kentucky. He was chosen as the top player in the 2012 draft, and up until this point, he has been one of the league’s top performers of the season.

Davis, the young 20-year-old star, suffered a hand injury in the Pelicans’ game on Sunday night against the New York Knicks. As a rising star for a young team, Davis will certainly be missed on the Pelicans roster.

During the game, Davis suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left hand. The injury occurred during the first quarter, and he left the game with 1:32 remaining in the quarter, without being able to return. He is out indefinitely until a timetable can be determined for his return in the future.

As the NBA season is starting to heat up with its young star, it is unfortunate to see Davis go out this way, but hopefully for the sake of the Pelicans, the injury will not keep him out too long. It is still to be determined how long Anthony Davis will be sidelined, but it was reported that what caused the injury was hitting his hand on the rim. He was attempting to complete an alley-oop at the time.

If Anthony Davis is out for an extended period of time, then the team will be forced to replace him, and are likely to turn to their power forward Ryan Anderson to start in his place. Davis is certainly hoping for the best, and after the game, he said “I haven’t found anything out yet. Most definitely I hope it’s a short-term thing.”

Monty Williams, the coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, was unable to give any further comments, and the fate of Anthony Davis is still to be determined in the coming weeks. Entering the game on Sunday, Davis led the league in blocks with 3.9 per game, and also averaged 19.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

Despite losing Anthony Davis during the first quarter, the New Orleans Pelicans were able to win the game, and defeated the New York Knicks 103-99.

  • Derrick Rose Is Out For The Season, Another Knee Injury

Well, Derrick Rose just can’t seem to stay in the game. He missed all of last season due to a knee injury, then came back this season, and injured his other knee. The recent injury occurred in Portland against the Portland Trailblazers on Saturday night.

There were recent reports that Derrick Rose had been injured, but it was hard to determine how serious the injury was until now. While his coach and teammates were all hoping for the best, but with his history, it was hard to think too positively on the situation.

Derrick Rose is one of the star players, and the point guard for the Chicago Bulls. It is easy to tell how much of a difference he makes on the team, after missing most of last season, and causing the Bulls to make the playoffs, but struggled greatly without him.

It was announced today that Derrick Rose would be out for the rest of the season, a fear that has teammates, coach, and many fans around the country had after witnessing him going down on Saturday.

He will miss the remaining games in the 2013-2014 season, after completing a successful surgery on Monday morning to repair the torn medial meniscus in his right knee. The team is certainly different without him, and he will be missed by each of his teammates.

Luol Deng spoke about his injury, and is excited for the day when he is able to return when saying “It’s not going to change anything. He’s still going to be Derrick. He still is going to work hard and come back even better. I really believe that he was better coming back from that ACL. It’s unfortunate that it happened. I have no doubt he’s going to come back and play great.”

The NBA suffered a great loss when he got injured and was forced to have reconstructive surgery on his left knee last season. In Saturday’s game, he was injured during the third quarter, and this time it is his right knee that has been hurt.

With Derrick Rose out for another season, the Chicago Bulls will have to count on their other star players such as Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, and Carlos Boozer to get the job done. Chicago is currently 6-6, putting them in second place in the Central division behind the Indiana Pacers.

Hopefully after another season of recovery, Derrick Rose will finally be able to make it back to the NBA, and have an impact on the Bulls’ 2014-2015 season.

  • Aaron Murray Leaves The Game With A Knee Injury

Aaron Murray, quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, suffered an injury during their win against Kentucky yesterday.

Of course, Georgia had no trouble with defeating the Kentucky Wildcats, but after leaving the game with a knee injury, Murray is likely to be out for the rest of the season.

Georgia is not one of the top teams in the SEC by any means this season, but behind their star in Aaron Murray, they are certainly able to match up against anyone in the conference.

With an injury to his left knee, Murray needed assistance to leave the field late in the 2nd quarter.

Georgia currently sits at third place in the SEC East, behind Missouri and South Carolina. After the injury, Murray immediately motioned to the team’s medical staff that he needed help, and he was escorted to the locker room, struggling to put any weight on his left leg.

Just after halftime, it was announced that Murray would at least be missing the rest of the game, and it looks to be much more serious than that. Aaron Murray tore his ACL, and will be having a season-ending surgery, preventing him from returning to the field in his final game at home.

He had an MRI on the knee on Saturday night, and is likely to be having surgery sometime this week. He is a senior, and has had a very successful four years with the Bulldogs, starting all 52 games of his four years, and becoming the Southeastern Conference’s career leader in yards passing, touchdown passes, completions and total offense.

Georgia’s coach Mark Richt said that the injury was sickening, finding it hard to enjoy the rest of the game, and mentioned “It’s kind of a crummy feeling when you think of what Aaron is going through right now.”

He will surely be missed in the final part of the season, but Aaron Murray is grateful for the four years that he was able to spend with Georgia, and hopes to be successful in the NFL. He was 18 of 23 passes for 183 yards with four touchdowns in the game against Kentucky.
