Tracy Morgan Transferred to Rehab Facility Following Fatal Crash

Tracy Morgan was transferred to a rehab facility after spending almost two weeks in a New Jersey hospital following a fatal crash that took the life of his friend and comedy writer James McNair. It was back on June 7th that the tour bus Morgan and McNair, as well as several others, were riding in was hit from behind while traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan sustained serious injuries and was listed in critical condition for more than a week. Morgan’s publicist didn’t disclose the name of the rehab facility or where it is located, however he made a statement regarding the stand-up comedian and SNL alum’s medical progress.

“While he is continuing to show signs of improvement, he still has a long way to go,” the rep said. “He and [his fiance] Megan wanted to publicly express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for the unbelievable care and attention they provided him.”

Nine days after the crash both Tracy Morgan and his assistant Jeff Millea were upgraded from critical to fair condition. There has been no further update about comedian Ardie Fuqua, Jr., who was also in critical condition following the crash.

The Walmart truck driver accused of causing the fatal crash has been charged with vehicular homicide. Kevin Roper pleaded not guilty and is presently out on bail.

Earlier this week it was determined by the National Transportation Safety Board that Roper had been speeding at the time he crashed his truck into the tour bus. He was going 65 miles per hour–20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. He also hadn’t slept in more than 24 hours at the time the crash took place.

While it’s certainly encouraging news to learn that Tracy Morgan’s condition has improved enough to allow his transfer to a rehab facility, it’s important to remember that James McNair’s family is still grieving. Had Kevin Roper simply obeyed the laws of the road, perhaps neither of these sad situations would have come into play.

  • Coto De Caza Crash Kills 22-Year-Old Driver

Franz Nalezny, a 22-year-old student at Cal State Fullerton, died instantly Friday night when he lost control of his Mazda3 Hatchback and crashed into the side of a Coto De Caza home. California Highway Patrol authorities say that Franz was driving at a high speed on Vista Del Verde, a main road in the community, when his car struck a curb and became airborne, launching 50 feet in the air before hitting a tree and landing on the wall of a home on Cherry Hills Drive. The car scraped the building, but did not injure the residents – a mother and a daughter, who were inside watching TV at the time of the crash.

Franz was not far from his family’s home on Lexington Way, where he spent most of his weekends away from his college dorm. Crash scene investigators are still establishing what exactly caused the accident, as there are no skid marks on the road, or obvious signs as to what caused the car to lose control. There is still no word on whether alcohol was involved. The car remained perched on the wall of the home for several hours until an Orange County rescue team arrived with a crane to lower the car.

“We’re really trying to encourage people to slow down,” Orange County Sheriff Concialdi said. “Crashes can happen easily if you’re not paying attention.”

This crash isn’t the first major accident to affect the Coto de Caza community. Rianna Woosley, a local high school student, was killed back in 2005 when she lost control of her vehicle and hit a tree. Residents of the community have reportedly struggled for years with speeding on their private roads, which has posted speed limits of only up to 45mph.

  • Jadeveon Clowney is Caught Speeding 110 MPH

Anyone who has watched any South Carolina football this season knows that defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is fast. The 6’6″ junior weighs in at 274 pounds and runs a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash. In addition to being lightning fast on the field, we’ve discovered that Clowney is a little too fast off the field. One of the top prospects in the NFL Draft was clocked going 40 miles over the posted speed limit this past weekend.

According to WISTV, a South Carolina Highway Patrolman pulled Clowney over on I-77 for driving 110 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. Even though driving this much over the speed limit could result in going to jail, Clowney was only given a speeding ticket for $355.

While some people might question letting off a big-name star with nothing more than a speeding ticket, reports say that Clowney was cooperative in the situation.

So, what do football fans have to say about Clowney’s ticket? Most aren’t raking him over the coals for it, even though a few folks have wondered whether this would hurt his draft status, something Brent Sobleski of USA Today quickly shot down. “NFL teams will almost certainly investigate the situation, but a lead foot won’t be enough to push them away. Clowney is an elite prospect,” Sobleski said.

Most fans aren’t taking the situation too seriously. Fan Bryan Craig made light of the situation by saying that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney should recruit the state trooper that pulled over Clowney. “This state trooper did something Clemson has been unable to do for the past three years…stop Clowney.”

Hopefully the next time we hear about Clowney’s speed is when the Gamecocks travel to Orlando to face Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl.

Clowney wasn’t the only football player in South Carolina to get pulled over for speeding over the past few days. Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd was pulled over for speeding on Friday. Boyd was pulled over doing 84 MPH in a 70 MPH zone, but was let off with a warning.

  • Kim Kardashian Gets Speeding Ticket

    Kim Kardashian Gets Speeding Ticket

Kim Kardashian cannot outrun the paparazzi no matter how hard she tries. Kardashian was pulled over at approximately 1:00 p.m. on October 12 while driving eastbound on Los Angeles’ 101 Freeway.

Apparently, Kardashian started speeding in her black Rolls Royce to try to avoid the many paparazzi that were following her. No one has confirmed how fast she was actually going. While you would think she would be used to the constant stalking, it seems as though she was fed up and was going to get away, even if it meant getting a speeding ticket in the process.

The California Highway Patrol pulled Kardashian over causing a scene of commotion of the 101. When Kardashian stopped her car, the paparazzi stopped their cars as well. The police say this is not only unsafe, but illegal. Approximately five cars stopped to photograph Kardashian which TMZ described as “total pandemonium.” A helicopter was even seen flying overhead to snap pictures.

While most of the paparazzi got away, at least one received a citation for speeding and making a non-emergency stop. E! reported that the California Highway Patrol will be speaking to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office to find out if the Los Angeles anti-paparazzi laws pertain to this incident.

  • George Zimmerman Gets Another Speeding Ticket

Former neighborhood “watchman” George Zimmerman was pulled over for speeding in Central Florida Tuesday, roughly a month after being stopped near Dallas for the same violation. No word yet on whether he was carrying a firearm this time around.

Zimmerman was left with a warning in the Texas incident, but police in Lake Mary, a suburban city in Seminole County, issued Zimmerman a $256 fine for going 60 in a 45 mph zone on Rinehart Road.

Incidentally, the traffic violation occurred less than 3 miles from where Zimmerman had shot Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012. Zimmerman’s lawyers have claimed that he’s been trying to keep a low profile, though the gunman was also recently involved in the rescue of a family of four, after their SUV flipped over near Sanford, Florida. This good deed was met with a lot of media attention regardless.

Zimmerman has been a very polarizing character after his recent acquittal for the shooting death of 17-year-old Martin, and has been understandably trying to remain covert. One would think that excessive speeding and the visiting of the manufacturing facility of the gun used in the Martin case might not be the best ideas.
