  • HTC One-Two Punch: Bigger,Faster…More Everything

The “Quietly Brillant” brand has been steadily growing in popularity, providing some of the first large screen smartphones along with its unique technology. HTC’s One has sealed the deal to make it one of the top phones of last year, and according to CNet, it looks as if they have no plans to fall behind with their newest One dropping soon.

The name is under wraps; some sources believe it is called the M8, and others believe it will simply be called the HTC One 2. Although none of those names are quite spiffy, the speculated specs of the upcoming phone sure are.

Firstly, HTC One’s Snapdragon 600 chip will be upgraded to at least an 800 to remedy the main, and often only, complaint of HTC One reviewers. A RAM upgrade has also been promised to further push the power. HTC One-Two’s screen is reported to sport a .3 inch increase to make it a solid five inches. The most impressive perk of the updated One is the rumored two rear camera feature along with an upgrade of its patented Ultrapixel camera. This means clearer pictures that just might surpass- or at least rival- the superior iPhone camera.

HTC is holding details of this phone under close wraps– they haven’t even officially told us when they will release the phone. More details will hopefully be shared during the Mobile World Congress held at the end of this month in Spain, but the popular opinion is that the phone will be released in March.

  • Galaxy Note III to Have Full HD Screen [RUMOR]

Galaxy Note III to Have Full HD Screen [RUMOR]

With the success of its Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II products, Samsung proved that there are consumers hungering for ever-bigger screens. With the announcement of the Galaxy Note III expected soon, rumors about the device’s hardware have been flying for weeks now. Today’s Galaxy Note III rumor actually seems more plausible than most, and that’s because it comes from Samsung itself. Sort of.

Sam Mobile has uncovered references to models of the Galaxy Note III in Samsung WAP files on the company’s website. The code refers to the models SM-N900T and SM-N900, which have been linked to the Galaxy Note III. In the reference, it seems to be confirmed that the device will have an ARM11-based processor and a 1080 x 1920 screen. Neither of these specs were be unexpected, but the seeming confirmation means the Galaxy Note III will be a full-HD smartphone.

Previous rumors about the Galaxy Note III include it having a massive 5.7″ sAMOLED screen and a quad-core processor. In addition, the device could have a 13-megapixel camera. Since the next Galaxy Note III did not make an appearance at Samsung’s “Premiere 2013” event back in June, current speculation is centered on the IFA show in Berlin in September as the site of the smartphone’s announcement.

  • Google Glass Specs Have Begun to Surface

Google Glass may still be a year away from hitting store shelves, but developers who shelled out $1,500 at last year’s Google I/O to pre-order the device have begun to get their prototype models.

As industrious hackers begin getting units, every inch of the device will no doubt be cataloged soon enough. For now, consumers will have to settle for a few of the initial specs from the developer version of the gadget.

Jay Lee, a software developer for Google Apps reseller Dito, got his Glass unit this week and has been geeking-out over the device on Google+. He has begun toying around with the device’s debug mode and listed some key specs for the Glass, including the processor and memory included:

    Jay Lee

I realize that with innovative products like Glass, the experience is more important than the hardware specs. And the experience is pretty incredible! Having said that, it's Friday, I'm a geek and it's still awesome to nerd out on the guts. +Liam McLoughlin (Hexxeh) also found the USB debugging setting and got ADB working (looks like it was broken on my primary machine). Once I got it working I pulled up some details about Glass. Key points are:

    * It's running Android 4.0.4 – Ice Cream Sandwich – just as Larry Page said
    * It's an OMAP 4430 CPU – Dual Core? – Having trouble finding exact mhz
    * There's 682mb of RAM (678052kb reported in /proc/meminfo). Kernel messages lead me to believe it's actually 1gb but some is being used for other hardware purposes(?)

    https://drive.google.com/#folders/0B0YvUuHHn3MnV0FacEJiMG1GNW8

If you know Android pretty well and have additional questions on the Hardware or Glass OS you'd like answered (and know the commands that will answer them), feel free to post in the comments and I'll see what I can do.

To put some of the info in context, the OMAP 4430 CPU has been used in mobile devices such as Samsung’s Galaxy S II and the Kindle Fire. Previous reports have shown that Glass has a 640 x 360 display and a 5-megapixel camera. In other words, Glass won’t match up to this year’s (or last year’s) cutting-edge smartphones in terms of power, though it’s still plenty powerful for a wearable computer.

  • Durango AKA Xbox 720 Specs Unveiled [Rumor]

The first half of the year before E3 is always full of rumors pertaining to what the major players in the gaming industry are going to show off. It’s a little different this year, however, as we have two new game consoles on the way from Sony and Microsoft. All the attention will be directed at the new hardware, and the rumor mill in regards to these machines’ supposed specs is already churning.

VGLeaks, a site that has proven to be more right than wrong in its reporting, claims to have gotten hold of the spes for Durango – the next Xbox. If true, Microsoft’s next console will be a pretty beastly machine, but it may also be pretty quiet.

Digging into the details, it appears that Microsoft may be going for lower-power consumption with its next gen console. The machine will sport an eight core CPU running at 1.6 GHz. Is it slower than the Xbox 360’s 3.0 GHz tri-core processor? Not at all as this newest processor is able to execute more processes at a speedier rate than its predecessor. It’s similar to the Wii U’s processor in that it features a slower clock speed, but is able to do more with it. If anything, the new processor will make sure that the next Xbox is a quiet, cool machine.

As for the GPU, It’s a custom 800 MHz graphics processor with support for Direct 3D 11.1. It’s not top of the line graphics processing, but consoles don’t need that to push impressive visuals. This chip will do nicely when it comes to pushing even more visually impressive games on the new hardware.

As for memory and storage, the console will feature 8GB of RAM and 32MB of fast embedded SRAM. The console will also sport a SATA out for a HDD. It’s unknown what kind of hard drive will be used, however, as Microsoft may opt to use a solid state drive for its latest console, especially if it begins pushing digital over physical content.

Speaking of physical content, the next Xbox will be outfitted with a Blu-ray drive. It was pretty much a given at this point, but it’s nice to know that Microsoft won’t be insistent on using DVDs or some other proprietary format in its next console.

If you prefer a more visual take on the above information, here’s a system block diagram courtesy of VGLeaks. Of particular interest is the Kinect In port. The Kinect In port may imply that Microsoft may be selling the next generation Kinect device separately instead of building it into the device.

Next Xbox Specs Revealed In Latest Rumor

As always, these are just rumors and should be taken as such. We won’t know anything for sure until Microsoft or a certified third party confirms it as fact. We may not have to wait long though as Microsoft may reveal its latest console before E3, just like Sony.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: Bigger Home Button, Bigger Frame

How much different will the upcoming iPhone 5 look compared to the iPhone 4? That’s one of the biggest questions surrounding the (supposedly) imminent release.

Some rumors have suggested that the new device will be both thinner and wider than previous models. Another popular rumor that has been floating around for months is that the iPhone 5 will launch with an elongated home button.

Hong Kong blog unwire.hk has given us what they claim to be the first leaked design shots of a screen protector for the iPhone 5. Their various pics corroborate previous rumors concerning the buzzed-about new specs of the device. This first pic suggests that the phone might have that elongated home button after all –

This next pic shows how much larger the screen protector is compared to the entire frame of the iPhone 4. Of course the screen protector can’t speak anything to the possible thickness of the new device, but it does suggest the the phone will be wider and longer.

Assuming any accuracy to these pics, it would mean that the screen of the iPhone 5 will in fact be larger than the 3.5 inch screen that the iPhone 4 sports. Some rumors have said that the new screen will be anywhere from 3.7 inches to over 4 inches. However, two recent rumors have suggested that the screen will remain close to the 3.5 inch standard.

Most speculate that the iPhone 5 will arrive sometime in early-to-mid October. Yesterday, we reported that a French Telecom CEO suggested the device would be arriving on October 15th, which happens to be a Saturday. Apple usually likes to launch new phones on Thursdays or Fridays.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: Release Date Mid-October, 3.5 Inch Screen

Things are in motion and have been for some time, says one analyst. The new iPhone will be receiving its final modifications in late September-early October and will hit the shelves in mid-October.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, both the new iPhone and the new iPod touch have been in production since late August. These assemblers are just waiting on the “golden master” of iOS 5, Apple’s brand new operating system.

Once they have the iOS 5, the assemblers can install it on the already-made devices and ready it for the shipping process.

Kuo told AppleInsider that the “golden master” version of iOS 5 will release to the assemblers on the week of September 30th. This points to a mid-October release date for the final product. This information backs up various other rumors that point to an October release for the much-anticipated device. The latest release date rumor came yesterday when an internal memo from Sprint leaked, showing that employers will be black out Sept. 30th – Oct. 15th for a “major phone launch.”

As far as iOS 5 goes, a rumor from last week said that Apple was in the process of training their Apple Store employees on iOS 5 and iCloud. Apple Stores oftentimes begin new software training a few weeks before a big product launch.

Kuo also spoke to MacRumors and had some more to say regarding to specs of the upcoming iPhone. He brings back the notion that the iPhone 5 might not really be an iPhone 5 after all – more like an iPhone 4S will just a few simple tweaks from the iPhone 4.

He says that it will contain the rumored A5 chip currently found in the iPad 2, which offers 512 MB RAM.

Plenty of other rumors have hinted that the new iPhone could have a thinner frame and a tapered design – and possibly launch with a bigger screen. Kuo says that the new device will actually sport a 3.5 inch screen, which is the same as the iPhone 4.

Of course, rumors are rumors. But this release date timeline coincides with almost everything else we’ve heard in the last few weeks.

  • iPhone 5 to Release in Two Models This Fall?

Multiple sources have reported that Apple will ship its highly buzzed about iPhone 5 in the fall, possibly September. Little by little, more rumors are surfacing about what the new phone will look like and today finds an interesting on floating around.

iphonedownloadblog is reporting that their Apple source, who is an employee of an Apple part supplier, says the iPhone 5 may come in two different models when it finally releases this year. The source was vague, but suggests that buyers might have the option of purchasing a “standard” version and an upgraded or “pro” version.

    From IDB:

Our source says that Apple is ordering components of similar function, but some of them are the very best of what you can get right now.

While the rest of the ordered components are just the standard versions, Apple is also ordering better quality components of the same function. Our source says that both types of components wouldn’t go in one device together, which makes him believe Apple is up to something with a ‘pro’ version.

Recent iPhone 5 rumors have said that the new phone might just be a hardware upgrade of the iPhone 4 and will look similar.

Other, more ambitious rumors include NFC capability for mobile payments, T-Mobile access, a larger (perhaps over 4 inch) screen, a much faster processor, a thinner and lighter design and a built-in bumper.

On Thursday, Apple’s white iPhone 4 was finally released to the joy of those who think the original black iPhone is too easy to keep clean. And just today, it was reported that users will receive the iOS 4.3.3 upgrade, which fixes some of the notable tracking controversy bugs and improves battery life, within the next couple of weeks.
