  • HootSuite Integrates Instagram, SlideShare, and Other Social Features

HootSuite today announced that it has added Instagram, SlideShare and two other social feeds to its growing list of integrated social features. HootSuite is a social media management platform often used by companies to coordinate their social marketing. The company claims that 79 of the Fortune 100 companies use its service to manage their brands across social networks.

HootSuite has been adding more social network integration into its service at a rapid pace this year. Earlier this month the company expanded the beta for its LinkedIn integration, adding LinkedIn Company Pages support. Today, Instagram, SlideShare, edocr, and Zuum have been added to HootSuite’s App Directory, which features third-party extensions and applications for the HootSuite service.

“After launching the App Directory in late 2011, we gave many popular social media networks a new home in our dashboard,” said HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes. “We’re excited to welcome these popular social networks because they’re centrally focused around the easy sharing of multimedia content. Regardless of which social media network is popular today, and which is hot tomorrow, it’s HootSuite’s job to make the lives of our power-users, brands, and businesses easier – and we’ll continue watching the industry to achieve this goal.”

The new Instagram integration provides nearly all of the functionality of the real Instagram app. Users can view, search, and filter their stream, as well as view and like posts, add comments, and share photos to other social networks.

The SlideShare app allows users to upload presentations and documents to a SlideShare account and share content to other social networks. Users can also edit SlideShare documents from within HootSuite, and the platform also keeps track of metrics such as views, downloads, comments, favorites, and tags for each shared document. Edocr is a document-sharing service similar to SlideShare, and its app provides much of the same functionality as the SlideShare app.

The Zuum app provides users with Zuum social metrics without having to leave HootSuite. Users can search for their top performing Facebook posts over different timespans, and filter search results by Likes, comments, or shares.

The newly integrated services are now available in the HootSuite App Directory. HootSuite has plans to add even more social integration into their service in the future. The Apps Directory lists Blogger, Chatter, Yammer and Disqus as platforms that will soon receive HootSuite support.

  • Duke, Lehigh Drive Top March Madness Social Buzz

The first weekend of the 2012 NCAA tournament lived up to sports fans’ expectations. There were close games, blowouts, and everything in between. We also saw big name favorites live up to the hype and deliver commanding performances.

But of course, what does everybody want to see?

Yes, there were a few notable upsets – the two most shocking happening when a couple of #15 seeds knocked off a couple of powerhouse #2 seeds. It was the first time in history that two #15s were victorious in one tournament. And as you would expect, those two games sent social media sites like Twitter and Facebook on fire with comments – especially when Lehigh defeated the mighty Dukies.

Social TV analytics company Bluefin Labs tracked social media comments across all the games over the weekend (Thursday – Sunday). According to their research, 2.46 million comments were made, making an average of 49,000 comments per game. And the winner, the most buzzed-about game of the 48, was Lehigh and Duke:

As you can see, it wasn’t even that close. By the word cloud provided, you can kind of figure out why that game drew such a huge response: bracket busting. Plus, the game did involve Duke losing, which tends to please about 95% of the country.

The other big upset, Norfolk State topping Missouri was also popular, drawing 158,000 comments. Purdue vs. Kansas probably grabbed the #2 spot because it was just a spectacular game. The games the came in 4th and 5th according to social media buzz, UK vs. Iowa State and Creighton vs. UNC both had dominating performances from the top seeds.

I still feel bad for Duke fans, collars will be popped at half mast all weekend. 2 days ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto
