  • Tina Fey Remembers Jan Hooks, Bashes Rob Schneider

While appearing on Elle’s Women in Hollywood Awards Monday night, Tina Fey took the time to pay tribute to Saturday Night Live star Jan Hooks, who passed away on Oct. 9 at age 57.

Fey said that she thought Hooks was an amazing actress and comedian and didn’t get the recognition she deserved.

It was Fey’s decision to cast Hooks to play Jane Krakowski’s mother on 30 Rock, and Fey said that she knew from the beginning that she was perfect for the role.

“We needed to cast Jane Krakowski’s estranged Florida dirtbag mother, and I thought, My God, do you think we could get Jan Hooks?” Fey said to Vanity Fair. “And the answer was like, ‘Yeah, you can get her.’ She was living in Woodstock. And the phone was not ringing.”

“It made me sad when she passed, and it made me mad at the time how available she was,” Fey added. “Jan should have had a bigger career. Jan deserved a big movie career. Certainly as big as Rob Schneider’s f*cking career. She was a bigger star on SNL.”

Fey also said that Hooks was a little nervous to start acting again, but she caught on quickly and fit right in with everyone else on set.

“She was actually a little shy about jumping back into the game,” Fey recalled about Hooks’ return to television. “And she came down and she was so funny. We did a scene where Jenna and her mother are reunited [and they] sing their duet that they used to sing in pageants when Jenna was a child. And it was a mother and a daughter singing to each other, ‘Do that to me one more time . . . ‘”

“And it was so funny and the crew was so mesmerized,” she added. “It was all at once the most ridiculous and heartbreaking and beautiful [and] weird mother-daughter relationship. And I’m so proud of it.”

Nevertheless, Hooks was an important part of SNL and a role model for Tina Fey. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her as a friend, comedian or actress.

  • Leslie Jones Joins Saturday Night Live Cast

American comedian Leslie Jones will soon be joining the youthful Saturday Night Live cast.

Originally hired as a writer for the show in 2014, Jones appeared in a Weekend Update segment in May where she had a commentary on how America’s views of African-American women has changed.

“See, I’m single right now,” she said on the segment, “but back in the slave days, I would have never been single. I’m six feet tall and I’m strong, Colin. Strong! I mean, look at me, I’m a mandingo … I’m just saying that back in the slave days, my love life would have been way better. Massah would have hooked me up with the best brotha on the plantation … I would be the No. 1 slave draft pick.”

Jones’ segment was met with controversy and she was quick to respond to the criticism on Twitter.

Jones also appeared in the first and third episodes of the 40th season. But starting on October 25 with Dumb and Dumber To host Jim Carrey, the Tennessee native will be a featured player, making this the first time in SNL history that more than one African-American female cast member has been cast in the show, the other being Sasheer Zamata who was cast last year.

Along with her acting duties, Jones will also stay on as a writer for the show.

In addition to SNL, Jones has also guest-starred in scripted comedies such as Workaholics and The League.

Aside from Jones, the new season of SNL has already seen several changes. Former cast member Darrell Hammond can be heard as the show’s new announcer following the August death of Don Pardo who had been with the show since the premiere in 1975.

Pete Davidson, the first SNL member to be born in the 1990s, also joined the cast and Michael Che is replacing Cecily Strong as Weekend Update co-anchor.

  • Seth Rogen Confronts “Freaks And Geeks” Executioner

Seth Rogen was just minding his business on the set of Saturday Night Live.

He was there to support his friend Bill Hader.

What happened next can only be described as fate coming full circle.

Seth Rogen heard someone mention the name of the man who gave the ax to the cult hit show Freaks and Geeks.

Freaks and Geeks is a great show that an entire generation mourned when it was regrettably canceled after only one season.

Rogen, as one of the stars of the show, felt that he must call this guy out.

Rogen said, “I overheard someone say the name of the guy who canceled Freaks and Geeks. I know his name, obviously, because we’ve talked about how stupid he is for the last 15 years.”

Seth Rogen said with the moral support of his buddy, Paul Rudd, he walked up to Garth Ancier to confront him. A television programmer since the ’70s, Ancier should have known his stuff but Seth Rogen, and many others, disagree.

What happened when Ancier was confronted? He didn’t try to throw anyone under the bus or point the blame to someone else.

Seth Rogen said, “He oddly tried to justify it. He was like, ‘You know, Judd [Apatow] wouldn’t listen to my notes.’ I was like, ‘The notes probably were stupid’.”

Rogen continued, “He was like, ‘You know, I kept telling Judd, “Give them a victory, give them a victory”‘. And I was like, ‘The whole show was about how in high school you always lose all the time’.”

He then said of Ancier, “He went to a private school and was very rich as a child.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_DR9-_QUx4

Ancier took the public berating by Seth Rogen fairly well, and even admitted that canceling the show was a huge mistake.

In a Facebook post, he said,

“OK, this is getting pretty funny. Now I’m the rich kid who went to private school so couldn’t understand that public high school kids who are Freaks and/or Geeks never have any victories over the cool kids. Yes, I went to private school (Lawrenceville), but my parents were not rich (very supportive, but not rich), and finally – THIS IS TV! The ultimate realm of wish-fulfillment!”

He then added, “Again, I apologize to the very talented folks who made this series so fun to watch. In my next life I will revive it on cable!”

What do you think? Do you agree with Seth Rogen on this?

  • Skeleton Twins: Third Impressive Box Office Weekend

The Skeleton Twins saw an impressive third weekend at the box office–placing eleventh overall this week following last week’s nineteenth-place standing. It has thus far grossed more than $1.26 million. The film stars Kristen Wiig, Luke Wilson, Ty Burrell, and Bill Hader. It won an award–Screenwriting Award: U.S. Dramatic–at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival back in January. Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate acquired the film earlier this year following its appearance at Sundance.

The Skeleton Twins follows estranged twins (Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader) who try to repair their relationship with one another after they both cheated death on the same day.

“A big part of the film’s success is due to the fact that Bill and Kristen, as well as Luke and Ty, gave big support on the PR front. They did literally 20 or more talk show appearances between them, in addition to a ton of regional and online press,” Roadside co-president Howard Cohen said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He also noted that the film’s exceptional reviews are now motivating even more people to check it out in theaters.

The Skeleton Twins is expected to expand into even more theaters in the coming weeks. As of this weekend it averaged $3,278 per theater in box office sales.

Coming in just above The Skeleton Twins in the number ten box office spot is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which grossed $1.45 million this weekend. Just below The Skeleton Twins in the number twelve spot is The Drop. It grossed just over a million dollars.

Have you been to check out SNL alum Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, along with Ty Burrell and Luke Wilson in The Skeleton Twins? It sounds like it has a few poignant moments and lots of laughter, too. It will be interesting to learn howThe Skeleton Twins does next weekend–its fourth weekend in theaters.

  • Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch: ‘SNL’ Playdate

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Rachel Dratch recently enjoyed a playdate with all of their kids in New York. The funny ladies–all Saturday Night Live alumni–had a blast this summer. Fey spent the summer on Long Island where she starred in an upcoming film with both Poehler and Rudolph. Fey and Dratch live in New York City anyway, so the logistics just made sense.

Tina Fey shared news of their antics when she chatted with yet another SNL alum–Seth Meyers–during her appearance on his show, Late Night With Seth Meyers, on Wednesday.

“It was actually so lovely, because Maya and Amy live in L.A. most of the year…[costar Rachel] Dratch and I live here,” she explained. “While we were making this movie, our kids all got to play with each other, which was like, the best little rascals. Just the cutest.”

Meyers, who was incidentally present for these epic playdates, added, “It’s very easy to pick out–you know exactly which SNL mom the kids belong to. [There’s] like big Poehler-Arnett face, and then Eli Dratch is like that big. Then like, four Mayas… the Mayas are so cool. Mine are just two, like, floating eyebrows.”

Couldn’t you almost imagine this making an epic sitcom? Just imagine the funny ladies of SNL with their kids–and all the crazy–and yes, irreverent–things kids do. The reactions of moms like Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph would be beyond priceless.

Tina Fey has two daughters, Alice and Penelope, who are nine and three, respectively. Poehler has four and five-year-old sons named Archie and Abel. Rachel Dratch has a four-year-old son named Eli, and Rudolph has four kids –eight-year-old Pearl, four-year-old Lucille, three-year-old Jack, and 13-month-old Minnie. Maya Rudolph clearly wins in the numbers game.

Wouldn’t you like to get an invite to the next Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Rachel Dratch playdate–even if you have to sit on the sidelines as a quiet observer?

    Count this writer in.

  • Kanye West Confronts SNL’s Jay Pharoah

Kanye West has made it clear time and time again that he doesn’t like to be the butt of anyone’s joke or to be made fun of at all. When Saturday Night Live cast member Jay Pharoah decided to make some jokes about Kanye’s marriage at the VMAs, Kanye got angry.

He was so mad that he decided to confront Jay and said that he called him as soon as the VMAs were over. He shared some of the phone conversation with the crowd at the Made in America Music Festival.

“They want to make a joke out of how hard we work,” Kanye said on Saturday. “It’s all fine and all funny and everything, but don’t distract from our vision. It’s not a joke what we do up here. This music that we do is not a joke. What we do culturally is not a joke.”

“I called Jay Pharoah right after the MTV VMA Awards,” West continued. “I said, ‘I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position.’ So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going up stage spoofing people that’s working hard to open doors not only for black people, but any creators, anybody that wants to add a contribution to the world.”

Kanye didn’t want to end his concert with a negative rant so he left on a positive note.

“When I leave tonight, I want y’all to leave with love,” he told the 90,000 people who attended the event.

Kanye didn’t say if Jay answered the phone or what he said to defend himself. Since Jay is a comedian, it is likely that he will just use the phone conversation to make fun of Kanye even more at a later time and it is doubtful that Kanye’s call had any real effect on him.

  • Kanye West Calls ‘SNL’s’ Jay Pharoah About VMAs Comments

Kanye West called Saturday Night Live funny man Jay Pharoah following the MTV VMAs, and he shared part of his conversation with his fans at the Made in America Music Festival. It seems Pharoah cracked some jokes at the MTV VMAs about West that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians family member didn’t appreciate.

Jay Pharoah made fun of Kanye West at the VMAs. He pretended to be Kim Kardashian’s husband and said he ‘created television’ and that his videos ‘cured ALS.’ He even poked fun at Kim Kardashian for her appearance in Kanye West’s music video, ‘Bound 2.’

Fortunately for those attending the Made in America Music Festival, Kanye West ended his rant on a bit of a more positive note.

“When I leave tonight, I want y’all to leave with love,” he told the 90,000 people who attended the event.

How do you think Jay Pharoah will react to Kanye West’s phone call and his rant at the Made in America Music Festival?

SNL fans are no doubt expecting it might open one of the season’s new shows.

  • Sarah Palin Wants Tina Fey to Pay for Her Kids’ Braces

Sarah Palin thinks that she made Tina Fey’s career.

Back in 2008, after John McCain’s ill-advised selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate in that year’s presidential election, the press had a field day with Palin.

She was an easy target, and the joke’s practically wrote themselves. When she appeared in traditional media outlets, as all other candidates had done, she came off as woefully unprepared. She famously could not tell Katie Couric what newspapers she regularly read to keep her informed. Later, she and her running mate accused that Couric softball question of being a sterling example of “gotcha journalism”.

Palin winked and clichéd her way through a debate opposite now-Vice President Joe Biden. The parodies of that went on for months.

When asked by Charlie Rose about her thoughts on the “Bush Doctrine” of preemptive military involvement in the Middle East, Palin did not know what the “Such Doctrine” was and gave a bristly response.

But it was the lampooning of Palin by Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live that put a nail in the coffin of Palin’s political aspirations, and McCain’s campaign. And all Fey did was use mostly Palin’s own words from Couric interviews. It was ridiculous enough on its own.

This “emperor’s new clothes” approach — simply pointing out the obvious fact that Palin was too ignorant to be VP — was comedy gold for Tina Fey. Eventually, she even got John McCain himself involved.

Now Sarah Palin is whining that Fey’s treatment of her had little to do with her losses. And she doesn’t think their SNL‘s commentary is relevant in today’s political climate.

“I think SNL is egotistical if they believe that it was truly an effect on maybe the public debate about who should lead the country in the next four years,” she said.

In fact, Palin thinks Fey owes her for all the money she made off playing her on SNL.

“If I ran into Tina Fey again today, I would say: ‘You need to at least pay for my kids’ braces or something from all the money that you made off of pretending that you’re me! My goodness, you capitalized on that! Can’t you contribute a little bit? Jeez!” Palin said.

Fey’s partner in crime, Amy Poehler, did a bang-up job of lampooning Hillary Clinton, as well. Burt no one from the Hillary camp is calling for money from Poehler.

  • Sarah Palin Doesn’t Appreciate Tina Fey’s Impressions Of Her

It’s no secret that Tina Fey can do a spot-on impression of Sarah Palin. She has amused audiences on Saturday Night Live for years with her jokes and impressions, but there is one person who is not amused, and that is Sarah Palin.

Palin has been the butt of many jokes, but Fey’s seem to get the most laughs and some people have even suggested that Fey’s jokes may have swayed the 2008 presidential election.

Sarah Palin doesn’t think Fey is funny and she also doesn’t think Saturday Night Live matters as much as the cast and producers think they do.

“I think SNL is egotistical if they believe that it was truly an effect on maybe the public debate about who should lead the country in the next four years,” she said.

Some of the SNL cast members think otherwise. Former cast member Horatio Sanz said that he felt that Fey’s impression of Palin and other cast members’ impressions of other political figures did have an effect on public opinion and could have the power to sway an election.

“As funny as Will’s impression was, the audience as a whole, the whole country, would probably see that as, ‘Oh, I like Bush. Because he’s Will.’ You know, if Will hadn’t done that impression, or at least made him likable, it may have tipped it the other way. I honestly think so. We made up for it. I think Tina’s impression basically killed Sarah Palin,” Sanz said.

There have been several studies conducted on the subject and all of them show that voters seemed to like Palin less after watching Tina Fey’s impression of her.

Palin believes that she helped Fey much more than Fey’s impressions helped or hurt her in the election.

She said, “If I ran into Tina Fey again today, I would say: ‘You need to at least pay for my kids’ braces or something from all the money that you made off of pretending that you’re me! My goodness, you capitalized on that! Can’t you contribute a little bit? Jeez!’ ”

Of course Palin was just joking.

  • Maya Rudolph: Name and Sex of Baby Revealed After Almost A Year

Maya Rudolph gave birth to her most recent baby back in September, but the sex and name of the child has only been revealed in the past couple of weeks. The SNL alum and her longtime partner, director Paul Thomas Anderson, stayed tight-lipped about anything pertaining to this baby–their fourth. It seems TMZ has blown their cover, however, having recently procued a copy of the child’s birth certificate. You see, Maya gave birth at home this time, and the birth certificate paper work had to be filed before this baby turned a year old.

Anderson and Maya Rudolph have a new (at least she was back in September) little girl, and she was named after Rudolph’s late mother Minnie Riperton. Minnie Ida Anderson joins big sisters Pearl and Lucille, who are eight and four, respectively, as well as brother Jack, who is three.

Minnie Riperton was a soul and R&B singer who died at the age of 31 back in 1979 of breast cancer. Maya Rudolph was just seven years old when her mom passed away.

Shortly after giving birth to baby Minnie, Maya Rudolph starred in her own TV variety show. The Maya Rudolph Show debuted in May to excellent ratings and more than seven million viewers.

“I wanted to continue doing what I love the most, which is sketch comedy mixed with music,” she said during an interview around the time of the show’s premiere. “Or as my stepmother calls it, ‘Being a singing comedian.’ That’s her catch-all name for it, which I like.”

Although it’s a bit unusual that Maya Rudolph and her partner didn’t release information about Minnie’s birth back in September (they never withheld information about prior births), fans are likely happy to learn of the baby’s name and gender now–and they know why they didn’t learn earlier, too. A large family by today’s standards, it will be interesting to see if Rudolph and Anderson decide to add to their growing brood.

  • Tracy Morgan Transferred to Rehab Facility Following Fatal Crash

Tracy Morgan Transferred to Rehab Facility Following Fatal Crash

Tracy Morgan was transferred to a rehab facility after spending almost two weeks in a New Jersey hospital following a fatal crash that took the life of his friend and comedy writer James McNair. It was back on June 7th that the tour bus Morgan and McNair, as well as several others, were riding in was hit from behind while traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan sustained serious injuries and was listed in critical condition for more than a week. Morgan’s publicist didn’t disclose the name of the rehab facility or where it is located, however he made a statement regarding the stand-up comedian and SNL alum’s medical progress.

“While he is continuing to show signs of improvement, he still has a long way to go,” the rep said. “He and [his fiance] Megan wanted to publicly express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for the unbelievable care and attention they provided him.”

Nine days after the crash both Tracy Morgan and his assistant Jeff Millea were upgraded from critical to fair condition. There has been no further update about comedian Ardie Fuqua, Jr., who was also in critical condition following the crash.

The Walmart truck driver accused of causing the fatal crash has been charged with vehicular homicide. Kevin Roper pleaded not guilty and is presently out on bail.

Earlier this week it was determined by the National Transportation Safety Board that Roper had been speeding at the time he crashed his truck into the tour bus. He was going 65 miles per hour–20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. He also hadn’t slept in more than 24 hours at the time the crash took place.

While it’s certainly encouraging news to learn that Tracy Morgan’s condition has improved enough to allow his transfer to a rehab facility, it’s important to remember that James McNair’s family is still grieving. Had Kevin Roper simply obeyed the laws of the road, perhaps neither of these sad situations would have come into play.

  • Bill Murray Toasts Groom at Bachelor Party

Bill Murray was enjoying a quick getaway in Charleston, South Carolina over the Memorial Day Weekend when he was pestered by a group of guys–Boston College alumni, to be exact–while having dinner. The guys asked the What About Bob, Groundhog Day, and former SNL star if he would join them at a bachelor party they were attending there in the same restaurant. After he finished his dinner, the actor actually made a brief appearance–flooring everyone (even the original pests) with his presence.

Murray offered up a toast at the bachelor party, and talked to the groom and his guests about life, world travel, true love, and even his ideas on some bizarre places to tie the knot. Probably the most unusual comment of all came when Bill Murray compared the groom to a dead person.

Those in attendance at the bachelor party snapped photos with cameras and on their cell phones. Many video taped the quick visit as well. Now the clips from those films have gone viral.

Some say Bill Murray is known for his impromptu visits and brief encounters with people all around the country.

A man named Stephen, who attended the bachelor party shared his version of the event via a blog called The Concourse on Deadspin.

“Over Memorial Day weekend, 20 of my buddies from Boston College got together in Charleston for our friend EJ’s bachelor party. At one point during dinner at a steakhouse, one guy goes to the bathroom downstairs and sees Bill Murray sitting with some people with a fishing vest on. We talked to the waiter to see if we could send him some drinks, to which Bill declined. One of my buddies then went down and asked if he’d come up and say a few words for EJ and got a “No thanks.” My buddy comes back up dejected and tells us it’s not going to happen. Two minutes later, Bill fucking Murray walks into the room and gives this speech,” Stephen shared.

What a remarkable bachelor party this turned out to be. Way beyond getting drunk and watching a stripper gyrate around the room, these guys got to meet and enjoy a toast given by Bill Murray. Not many grooms can say that of their bachelor party.

  • ‘Mean Girls:’ The Ladies A Decade Later

‘Mean Girls:’ The Ladies A Decade Later

Mean Girls came out ten years ago, and for those thinking that’s not possible–it is. A decade has gone by since Lindsay Lohan and costars including Tina Fey (who also wrote the screenplay and stars in it alongside SNL costars Amy Poehler and Ana Gasteyer), Amanda Seyfriend, and Rachel McAdams–to name just a few–graced the big screen via their lives at North Shore High School.

The story line featured Lohan in the film’s lead as Cady Heron. This was her first experience in public school and she would do just about anything necessary to fit in. Sadly that’s sort of how Lindsay Lohan’s real life played out, too. She was mean to herself, however, by abusing her body and mind with way too many drugs and way too much alcohol.

Amanda Seyfried was one of the members of The Plastics–a.k.a. The Mean Girls–in her role as Karen. Since then she has become a star on the big screen in films like Mama Mia!, Dear John, and Les Miserables. She will soon appear in Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming film A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Rachel McAdams was the worst of all the mean girls. Regina was a master manipulator and she was Cady Heron’s worst enemy. She has enjoyed several years of similar success to that of Amanda Seyfriend, starring in The Notebook, Midnight in Paris, Wedding Crashers, and Sherlock Homes, as well as several other films.

Tina Fey played a teacher in Mean Girls. Amy Poehler played Regina’s mom. SNL alum Ana Gasteyer played Cady’s mom. While these certainly aren’t all the stars of the cult classic, it’s a summary of the major female players in the film that debuted in theaters ten years ago.

Did you see Mean Girls back in 2004? Don’t you wish Lindsay Lohan had the talent now that she so obviously had then? That’s probably the saddest reminder of all that ten years have past since the film premiered.

  • Anna Kendrick Wins SNL With Dong Song

Anna Kendrick Wins SNL With Dong Song

It’s no surprise that Anna Kendrick provided a much needed breath of fresh hilarity to Saturday Night Live last night. In anticipation of her hosting gig, I may or may not have recently (re-re-re) watched Pitch Perfect, a film many call a guilty pleasure and I just call an embarrassing-to-admit-to-my-cool-friends pleasure, and was again reminded of the brilliant comedic timing of Kendrick, even with subpar material (sorry, writers of Pitch Perfect).

While Kendrick shines throughout last night’s episode, the skit I (and everyone who has figured out how to post videos on Facebook) am drawn to is “Dongs All Over the World,” which has no doubt put dongs all over you feeds today. And for good reason – the music video is classic SNL spoof while adding a special ingredient often absent from other SNL parodies: truth (insert sound of MINDS BEING BLOWN here).

While a little trite, and a little late (perhaps a better moment for the release of this short was in 2001 when Ludacris dropped his beloved single “Area Codes,” a genuine and touching piece about the various cities where the singer/rapper hast banged the ladies), the theme of the skit still rings true waaaaaay up here in 2014.

It’s a theme that, no matter how many gender studies classes you audit and rants from Kathleen Hanna you watch on YouTube, will never fail to surprise and infuriate. It’s a concept as old as feminism (and feminism, as we all know, is ANCIENT. Have you seen photos of the original suffragettes? Yikes): Why can men express their desire to have hos in every area code (copyright: Luda) in the sincerest of ways (well, at least I think Luda is sincere) and we only notice how hypocritical and ridiculous this concept is when we see a gif of Anna Kendrick kneeling by a male pelvis, belting the soon-to-be-classic line “Destroy the dong”?

It all comes down to the reason we are laughing. On a certain level, it’s because the lyrics are smart and funny and the SNL women are super talented. But LET’S DIG DEEPER. It’s because it’s unheard of for a woman to sing about dongs in the same way our bathing-suit areas are sung about/talked about/treated by mainstream artists and most of your male neighbors and friends. Not only because nice ladies aren’t supposed to actually enjoy bangin’ the bros, but because it would reduce men to role of vaginal suppository, which is evil/wrong/ludicrous (heyyooooo). It’s fine for women to take on this role (and we best be thankful), but society (and the music/film industry) does not take kindly to men being objectified in the same way.

The entire concept is depressing, which is why I’m glad it was Anna Kendrick reminding me this double standard ain’t going anywhere. How could I be mad when a face like this exists?

It’s impossible as achieving equality amongst the sexes! You try!

  • Anna Kendrick Promotes ‘SNL’ Hosting Debut in Hilarious New Promos

The new Saturday Night Live promos advertising Anna Kendrick’s hosting debut, which airs on April 5, showcase the actress’ musical skills and comic timing, and her confusion about the time and day the show actually takes place.

The Perfect Pitch star and SNL cast member Taran Killiam appear in the spots together, doing everything from singing to playing April Fools’ pranks.

The 35-year-old actress is told by Killam that since it is her first time hosting the show, she is given free rein to ask any questions she wants. She asks several questions about what day the show airs and when it tapes.

When asked what could be more fun than SNL, Kendrick makes some suggestions.

“Sumo wrestling in doughnut batter? A mansion full of monkey butlers? A tickle fight with puppies while I’m wearing a bikini made of bacon?” Kendrick replies.

It is a busy year for the actress, who is rearing up to film the sequel to Pitch Perfect later this year. She also appears in the film The Last 5 Years, and in the role of Cinderella in Into the Woods, both due out later this year.

The Up in the Air Oscar-nominated actress makes her SNL hosting debut April 5, and she will be joined by musical guest Pharrell, who she mentioned in a tweet last month when she joked about the hat he wore to the 2014 Grammy Awards.

  • Anna Kendrick Kills It in SNL Promo Spots

Anna Kendrick is prepping for her Saturday Night Live hosting gig this weekend in a series of promos for the show.

If the promos are any indication, it’s going to be a great show — she pretty much kills it.

Kendrick is seen hanging with SNL regular Taran Killam, running the gamut of comedy — from singing some show tunes to a fake horror skit.

In one skit, the Pitch Perfect star asks naively, “When does Saturday Night Live air? When does it tape? Is it during the day?”

In another spot, Kendrick and Killam ponder, “What could be more fun than Saturday’s show?” Kendrick’s reply: “Sumo wrestling in doughnut batter? A mansion full of monkey butlers? A tickle fight with puppies while I’m wearing a bikini made of bacon?”

The 28-year-old actress makes her hosting debut on Saturday, April 5, with musical guest Pharrell.

Former SNL head writer Seth Meyers, who now hosts Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC, gave Kendrick some advice after she told him she’s “really scared” about her appearance.

Kendrick has wrapped filming Happy Christmas due out summer 2014.

Fans of Pitch Perfect are pumped that Anna Kendrick is returning to reprise her role as Beca, the leader of the a cappella singing group, the Barden Bellas. Kenrick recently admitted she is just as pumped and doesn’t even seem to care about the plot.

“I’m very excited!” said Kendrick. “I mean I’ve signed on with no script, so you know, if it becomes about parasailing instead of singing, don’t blame me!”

She even revealed her ideas of what fans might expect from the sequel.

“I can see it picking up in the year 3000 when we’re all cryogenically frozen,” she joked. “And our voices are digital and we’re breaking the sound barrier.”

  • Lena Dunham Apologizes For Molestation Joke

Lena Dunham, the star of HBO’s Girls, recently made an appearance on Saturday Night Live, where she portrayed Eve from the Garden of Eden, appearing nude.

The next day, a Twitter follower addressed Dunham’s tendency to be naked in her performances saying: “You don’t always have to get naked!” Dunham then responded with joke that she took a bit too far. “Please tell that to my uncle, mister,” she replied. “He’s been making me!”

Many of Dunham’s followers found the joke not funny, and very insensitive to sexual abuse victims. Dunham later took to her Twitter account, and in a series of tweets, apologized for the offensive joke.

“I just made and deleted a not so great molestation joke. Sorry guys. I am really sleepy,” she wrote. “SNL has a way bigger audience than our usual cozy girls audience, so I was seeing a rash of very different kinds of twitter rage. But I should know better, and do. Even naked girls get embarrassed. Sleep well and thanks for an amazing weekend.”

  • Lena Dunham Says Sorry For Molestation Joke Via Twitter

Girls director and actress Lena Dunham made a joke about sexual molestation on Sunday night that didn’t quite sit well with fans.

Dunham made the joke in response to a tweet she received commenting on her performance on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live. Dunham was invited to host the show, and in a segment—a sketch about Adam and Eve—she appeared nude. In a Twitter post, a user told Dunham that she doesn’t always have to do away with clothes all the time. Her response was a joke about a molesting uncle.

    Oops.

A barrage of angry tweets came in, criticizing Dunham for the petty way she tackled the sensitive subject.

Dunham immediately took down the tweet and apologized, admitting that she went too far, that her joke wasn’t so great and that she “should know better.” Her excuse for the gaffe was that she was really sleepy.

One user said in reply that Dunham herself wouldn’t stay mum in similar situations, noting that if anyone else came up with the joke and cited sleepiness as an excuse, Dunham wouldn’t have simply let it go. “Not if they were a fifty year old man,” the actress said in return. The 27-year-old actress added that “joke flexibility” is something women can have a lot, “Ya gotta get by in this world.”

Dunham deleted the molestation tweet because she had been seeing a lot of different kinds of Twitter rage, she said, and realized that the long-running Saturday show had a bigger audience than what she was accustomed to. For the last of her back-to-back tweets, she posted, “Sleep well and thanks for an amazing weekend.”

Last year, Dunham won two Golden Globes for Girls and also won the Gracie Allen Awards as Outstanding Director. She had been nominated eight times for the Emmy Awards, and holds the honor of being the first woman to be named Outstanding Director in a Comedy Series by the Directors Guild.

  • Matthew McConaughey Spoofed by ‘SNL’s’ Taran Killam

Matthew McConaughey was the subject of an SNL spoof on Saturday by cast member Taran Killam, in what had to have been one of the very best spoofs ever of the handsome actor. Listening to the SNL episode in bed, I was forced to turn around and look at the screen, wondering why on earth McConaughey was making fun of himself like that. It, of course, wasn’t the actor, but Killam instead. The voice impersonation was spot on. The physical mannerisms were pretty accurate as well.

Killam sat down next to ‘Weekend Update’ costar Colin Jost, and wore a white tux similar to the one McConaughey wore to last Sunday’s Oscars. “McConaughey” quickly rebuffed Jost’s congratulations on his Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club.

“Don’t congratulate me. Congratulate the man I was a week ago,” Killam as McConaughey interrupted. “Congratulate the man I’m chasing. Congratulate the man who never existed.”

“And who is that?” Jost asked.

    “Me,” McConaughey replied.

It will definitely be fun to learn what Matthew McConaughey says about the spoof when he first sees a video clip of it. Known for having a pretty decent sense of humor, it’s likely the actor will take it well.

SNL was hosted by Lena Dunham on Saturday night.

She posted the following Instagram photo to her page following rehearsals with some of the ladies at SNL. She dubbed it ‘Girl pile in studio 8H.’

The National was the musical guest this weekend.

If you missed SNL you have to check out the videos as they start to hit YouTube and Twitter in the next day or two. It’s absolutely imperative that anyone who appreciates impersonations–or just Matthew McConaughey or Taran Killim–check out the hilarious spoof the comedian did of the True Detective star. While the clip plays, just close your eyes for a few seconds. You will be certain McConaughey himself is on SNL.

  • Jim Parsons Plays Johnny Weir On SNL

First time Saturday Night Live host Jim Parsons was able to separate himself from his character Dr. Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory. Parsons has been playing the character since the show’s pilot in 2007. The Big Bang Theory is currently in its 7th season.

Some people have associated Parsons with his character, thinking that Sheldon Cooper is exactly like him in real life. Parsons has several awards under his belt including a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series and three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, so it is easy to see how convincing he can be as an actor.

On Saturday night, Parsons came out and introduced himself to the audience while reminding them that he is not a scientist and he can’t speak Klingon. He then did a musical number singing that “he’s not that guy.” He also made references on other actors on television that have been known as their characters including Jaleel White played by Jay Pharoah in Family Matters, and Bobby Moynihan played by Jason Alexander on Seinfeld.

Parsons also did a sketch wherein he played figure skater and NBC commentator, Johnny Weir, while being interviewed by Ellen DeGeneres played by Kate McKinnon. Parsons came out sporting leather pants and a hot pink blazer. More accessories were added each time the camera panned back to him.

When asked if he had fun in Russia, Cooper answered “I looked like a local… it was like a gay Where’s Waldo.”

When asked where he got his fashion sense, he simply answered from his parents, and continued that his mother is a high school teacher and his father is a Christmas ornament.

Other characters he portrayed include serial killer Mark Alan Henry and Peter Pan. Parsons was able to commit and deliver on all the sketches to the audience’s delight. It also reminded everyone that Jim Parsons is not Sheldon Cooper.

  • Seth Meyers: ‘Late Show’ Debut Review

If you are a fan of Seth Meyers on Saturday Night Live, you most likely enjoyed his debut on Late Night.

Meyers replaced Jimmy Fallon on Late Night. Fallon had a great run as the Late Night host with popular segments such as The History of Rap and Slow-jamming the News. He made his debut appearance as The Tonight Show’s host on February 17 with guests Will Smith and U2, as well as appearances from Robert De Niro, Kim Kardashian, Seth Rogen, Lady Gaga, and Stephen Colbert.

Meyers’ first appearance as the host of Late Night garnered mixed reviews from audiences. He was able to transition his SNL persona to the talk show format smoothly, but based on some reviews, he still has to learn the ropes of delivering monologues. However, he did a good job “talking.” According to The Los Angeles Times, Meyers’ monologue was similar in style to his headline segment, Weekend Update.

The debut show’s guests were Meyers’ friend Amy Poehler, another SNL alum, and Vice President Joe Biden. Poehler and Meyers were amusing to watch as they targeted insults at each other. Vice President Biden was also a delight, as he seemed comfortable, most likely because of Poehler’s presence. Poehler has already worked with the Vice President when she asked him to do a cameo on her show Parks and Recreation. The show was capped off with a musical performance by A Great Big World.

Darren Franich from Entertainment Weekly also gave his opinion on the show, giving it a “B.” He said that he laughed more with Fallon’s The Tonight Show, but laughed at Meyers’ more than he did at Fallon.

Just like other late night hosts, Meyers will be flying solo but has the support of friends. Fred Armisen, also a SNL alum, in leading the Late Night band. Armisen’s humor meshes well with Meyers’, probably because of their years together in SNL. Overall, critics say that Meyers’ had a good Late Night Debut.
