  • Lindsey Vonn Not Ready to Ski Just Yet

Lindsey Vonn reported today that she will not be returning to competitive skiing until late November. The four-time World Cup winner and Olympic Champ tore the ACL and MCL ligaments in her right knee during a crash last February at the World Championships in Scladming, Austria during the Super G.

Here’s a video of the brutal and painful crash at Scladming:

It appears that Vonn was being optimistic about her health when she told reporters during a U.S.Olympic Committee in early October that she was feeling strong enough to compete at the race in Soelden, Austria. If she was able to ski in that race, she would have been about five weeks ahead of her expected recovery time.

Vonn posted her disappointment on her Facebook page and Official Website earlier today, “My training camp in Soelden went very well and I made great progress, but I feel that I need more training before I start racing again…which means the Soelden race is not in the cards this year. Patience is not my strong suit so not racing is very hard for me but it will only make me more excited for the next one. I will go home to Vail and continue my preparation for the Beaver Creek races and my ultimate goal in February! Thanks for the support everyone.”

The race at Beaver Creek, Colorado is scheduled to start on November 29th. While the delay may frustrate the competitive Vonn, if she returns by the end of November, she should be strong enough to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Vonn is considered the most successful American skier ever. She has 59 World Cup victories under her belt and both a gold and bronze Olympic medal.

  • Lindsey Vonn is Headed Back to the Slopes This Weekend

For months now, the media attention surrounding Lindsey Vonn has been about the athlete’s relationship with pro golfer Tiger Woods. The relationship has been scrutinized to such a degree that it could be easy to forget Vonn is a world-class skier and that she is still recovering from a devastating skiing accident in Austria early this year. Now, however, it seems Vonn is on-track to achieve her goal of competing int he 2014 Winter Olypmics.

The Associated Press this week reported that Vonn will hit the slopes this weekend for the first time since her accident. She was scheduled to first ski again in November, but will reportedly be skiing in Chile over the holiday weekend. Instead of just returning in November, Vonn is now expected to resume competitive skiing that month. The athlete told the AP that she feels “claustrophobic” when not skiing.

Vonn has been chronicling her long recover on her Facebook page. Monthly updates have depicted Vonn working hard in the gym, strengthening her injured knee and using the hashtag “#sochi2014” as a motivation. The AP reports that she spent four hours per day working out. The Facebook work-out updates have been coming more frequently throughout August, demonstrating that her strength and balance training is coming along well:

Vonn has even recently posted a video of her workout, perfecting her balance with the help of a trainer:

  • Tiger Woods, Lindsey Vonn Spend Some Quality Time Jet Skiing

After his very public divorce in 2010, Tiger Woods started to go out with Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn early this year. Vonn, who had just recently come out of her own divorce, decided to spend some quality time with Woods and his kids on a jet skiing trip this past weekend.

E! Online reports that Woods and Vonn were jet skiing with his kids over the weekend in Florida. It’s said that the jet ski trip shows that Vonn is starting to become more comfortable with Woods’ kids. It was only recently that Vonn wouldn’t be seen in public with the kids, but now she seems to have no problem with it.

Vonn had only just divorced her former husband, U.S. Ski Team member Thomas Vonn, in January of this year. It was revealed that she was dating Woods after she appeared at many of his golf tournaments. Now it appears that the two are spending more time together in public.

Of course, the big question now is whether or not Woods and Vonn are going to get married. Some would say it’s a little too soon for that as both are coming out of divorces. That being said, Woods making sure Vonn is comfortable with his kids could be a sign that he’s getting serious.

  • Vonn, Without Tiger, Spotted at New York Fundraiser

For someone with a serious leg injury, Lindsey Vonn sure moves around quite a bit.

Last month, Vonn was seen at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia cheering on her new boyfriend, Tiger Woods. This week, Vonn attended a fundraiser in New York City for the Delete Blood Cancer bone marrow donor center, though Woods was nowhere in sight.

According to a New York Post report on the event, Vonn stated that Woods is preparing for the PGA’s Players Championship, which begins on May 9.

Vonn posted about the fundraiser on her Facebook page, stating that the cause is important to her because her uncle had multiple myeloma:

    Lindsey Vonn

Wonderful night at the Delete Blood Cancer gala. My uncle Frank battled multiple melanoma so this cause means a lot to me. Happy to be a part of the night. Thx to Derek Lam for my dress 🙂 #getswabbed @dkms @DerekLamNYC

    Lindsey Vonn

Ugh! Auto correct!! My uncle had multiple myeloma!

According to the Post report, Vonn was not wearing her leg brace underneath her long dress.

Vonn’s leg was injured in February following a horrific crash she endured at a competition in Austria. Since that time, she has been chronicling her physical therapy on her Facebook page. Vonn has stated that her recovery goal is to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

  • 30 Skiers Complete Record Hand-in-Hand Backflip [VIDEO]

What did you and your friends do this weekend? These guys successfully performed a 30-person backflip, on skis.

The world record attempt took place in Quebec, Canada. Check it out below (this was their second attempt):

According to the reddit poster, who says that they’re the second from the right in the video, they plan on getting Guinness involved:

“I wasn’t in charge of the whole thing, but I know that they want to try it again more officially next year. We were a bit last minute this year. But Guinness or not, I’m still pretty stoked about how well it worked!” they say.

World champion and future Olympic participant Mikael Kingsbury was a part of the jump, and tweeted about it:

  • YouTube Replaces Winter With The Ski Channel

YouTube Replaces Winter With The Ski Channel

I think we can all agree by this point that Winter 2012 forgot that it had some place to be this year in the western hemisphere, so let us welcome the timely arrival of Spring 2012. In case you’re still feeling sore about being stood up by winter, though, YouTube announced today the creation of a new channel, The Ski Channel, your one-stop fix for all things wintery white with cool runnings.

In order to avoid any confusion here, The Ski Channel is an existing television network and multi-media platform that offers focused coverage on mountain sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and the such. The YouTube channel for The Ski Channel is mostly just an extension of that network’s outreach into social media. The Ski Channel team partnered with Epic Planks, crafters of premium skis and handmade snowboards, to create a new series featured on the channel, Germination, which showcases some of the best up-and-coming super shredders from around the world. The first episode, ‘A Taste of Norway,’ is below.

Additionally, here are some other offerings from The Ski Channel so, if you like what you see, you’ll probably find more likable videos over at the site.

In addition to videos, the YouTube channel also contains links to different parts of The Ski Channel’s site, such as profiles on notable athletes, a resort rater, upcoming events, and other mountain sports-related news. So really, even when you’re entrenched in the dog days of summer, snow-wishers can retreat to this new YouTube channel to get your wintry fix.

  • Amazing Courage From a Fourth Grade Ski Jumper

Just watching this video gives me a bit of vertigo. Her monologue is a rundown of everything that was going through my mind, but I doubt I would have the courage to actually go for it. What’s more, this girl is only in the 4th grade! When I was in the 4th grade anything scarier than a Goosebumps novel would probably have put me into a panic coma.

Uploader UK2NZ2NC2UT says, “As several people have pointed out it’s more about the emotions and facing your fears and overcoming them, than the jump itself…Personally I find it inspirational.” I, and several others from twitter do too:

  • Canadian Skicross Racer Nik Zoricic Dead At 29; Twitter Reacts

Two freak accidents within two months of each other have claimed the lives of young Canadian athletes; first freestyle skier Sarah Burke, and now Skicross racer Nik Zoricic, who passed away on Saturday after a crash on the final jump during the race in Switzerland. Both were 29 years old.

According to the ski federation in a statement, Zoricic did well during the race, but as he neared the eighth round he crashed hard into the safety netting on the side of the course. He was treated by doctors before being airlifted to a hospital at Interlaken, but was later pronounced dead as a result of “severe neurotrauma”.

Skicross, which is a relatively new sport, has been labeled as dangerous by some and is known as “NASCAR on skis” in the competitive sports world. It involves four racers skiing down a hill laden with bumps and ridges. Despite the dangers, officials say they feel confident that every precaution was taken to ensure the athlete’s safety and that this was purely an accident that turned out to be fatal.

Max Gartner, president of Alpine Canada, said, “I would say it’s a freak accident, from here. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s devastating. We look at all our athletes as members of our family, so it’s hard.”

Alpine Canada released a statement regarding the young athlete’s death, and offered their condolences to friends, fans, and family via Twitter.

Some of those familiar with the sport and the intimidating course, located in Grendelwald, Switzerland, feel the accident could have been prevented. Todd Brooker, a former top Canadian Alpine skier who once suffered his own devastating crash, is afraid that officials are just “making up the sport as they go along”. As reported on TheGlobeAndMail.com, Brooker has also spoken out against the course itself, fearing that the jump placed right near the end of the course is unnecessarily dangerous. Fans and friends used Twitter to send condolences and to vent their grief.

As reported earlier today, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Patrick was also in a skiing accident over the weekend in Tahoe. The 18 year-old received treatment for injuries but is expected to fully recover.

  • Patrick Schwarzenegger Tweets About His Ski Accident and Shares Awkward Photo

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 18 year old son proved that he could be a tough guy too. After taking a tumble while skiing in Tahoe on Saturday, Patrick Schwarzenegger took a photo of himself strapped to an orange stretcher.

He uploaded the photo to Twitter and said that it was just a little ski accident that left him with some some stitches and bruising along his back and butt.

Appreciate all the messages, love all you. I’m actually feeling really good today, and I even went skiing again today. Thanks again!!(image) 19 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Patrick was also thoughtful enough to thank the doctors at Sun Valley Resort.

The mini terminator returned to the slopes in Idaho the next day despite having a few bloody gashes.

Even with his ability to ski through the pain, Patrick is not trying to establish himself as a tough guy. Most of his publicized efforts have been devoted to charities and humanitarian causes.

Patrick is one of the creators of Project360 that debuted in Fall of 2009. Project360 is an apparel and accessories brand that uses fashion to generate global and social awareness. All items from the line have little mantras on them that are intended to motivate and promote worldly causes.

Project360 raises funds and organizes donation for these causes: The Alzheimer’s Association, Best Buddies International, and The Eva Longoria Fund.
