  • Robin Williams Final Role Talks Shagging Simon Pegg’s Leg

Robin Williams was involved with four films at the time of his death. Those projects have winded their way to completion, leaving only his final role to be revealed to the public. Suitably, it was Robin Williams making people laugh.

The film is called Absolutely Anything, and stars Simon Pegg, Kate Beckinsale, Eddie Izzard and the voices of the Monty Python crew.

In the film, Simon Pegg is Neil Clarke, “an ordinary guy who is bestowed with superpowers from a group of power-crazed aliens bent on destroying planet Earth. If he uses his powers for good, Earth will be spared. If he uses his powers for evil, then they will blow up the planet.”

Upon receiving his powers, one of the first things Neil Clarke does is grant his dog the power to speak. The dog speaks with the voice of Robin Williams.

“Biscuits. Biscuits. Please, please, please. Nothing else matters,” the dog says. “Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind shagging your leg right now.”

Robin Williams life was dedicated to making people laugh. After his death, people came out of the woodwork to tell stories of how he took time to talk to them in restaurants, sit with them and make them feel better.

Comedian Kevin Pollak recently dedicated his documentary “Misery Loves Comedy’ to the memory of Robin Williams. The film talks with numerous comedians about the core misery that is often common to people who make it their lot in life to make others laugh.

Kevin Pollak says of Robin Williams:

“He was a mentor of mine when I started out in San Francisco at age 20. He had become a made man from ‘Mork and Mindy,’ but he chose to spend most of his time in San Francisco where he would raise his family and mentor some comedians like myself and Dana Carvey. He was just a friend. He appeared in some specials of mine. Over the years he meant so much to me.”

  • ‘Star Trek 3’ Has a Confirmed Director: Roberto Orci

When it was announced that J.J. Abrams would be the director of the newest Star Wars trilogy, the entire sci-fi community almost collapsed in on itself. It wasn’t that the community thinks Abrams is a bad director or terrible person or ill-informed or anything necessarily negative; it’s just the fact that at the time of his hiring, Abrams was also the director of the newly rebooted Star Trek movie series. With the long-lasting feud between Jedi-wannabes and Trekkies, there was no way Abrams was going to be able to direct both franchises. Understanding that Star Wars was the bigger and better opportunity (Admit it, Trekkies.), Abrams decided to give the opportunity to direct the Star Trek series to someone else. That someone else happens to be Roberto Orci, Abrams’s co-writer for the first two installments of the Star Trek reboot.

In speaking with BBC News yesterday, Simon Pegg (who plays Scotty in the reboots), confirmed that Orci will indeed be the newest director of the Star Trek franchise, despite reluctance from Paramount Studios:

I’m really happy he’s doing it as it’s kept within the family kind of thing, it’s not somebody coming in from outside.Bob’s been there since the first Star Trek – by that I mean the 2009 one – so it seemed to make perfect sense that he come in as a director on this one because he gets it. He was always the most Trekkie of all of those guys anyway, he’s always understood the story the best so it’s great that he’s going to be involved in the writing and directing.

The statement from Pegg corroborates an earlier statement the actor made at a Star Trek convention last month when he simply said, “Bob is going to direct the new film.”

Rumor has it that Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) were the original frontrunners for the directing job because Paramount wanted someone who had no previous relation to the franchise.

While Orci has written for the first two movies, he does bring a breath of fresh air to the series as this will be his directorial debut. In the past, Orci has written for such films as Transformers, Mission Impossible III and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. With the newest installment of Star Trek, Orci is expected to hearken back to the original series moreso than Abrams.

The plot for Star Trek 3 (not the working title, by the way) centers around the original five-year journey of the USS Enterprise as featured in the original TV series. Because of its central plot idea, many think this installment will bring more of a philosophical flair to the series, giving original Trekkies exactly what they want.

  • Blobfish Named World’s Ugliest Animal

    Blobfish Named World’s Ugliest Animal

In a stunning (read, not stunning at all – in any way, shape, or form) announcement, the animal pictured above has recently been crowned the world’s ugliest animal. A recent contest held by the Ugly Animal Preservation Society, in partnership with the National Science + Engineering Competition, resulted in this beauty receiving the most votes (by 10,000+) over 10 other competitors: the Axolotl, British bats, the Dromedary Jumping Slug, the European Common Eel, the Flightless Dung Beetle, the Greater Short-Horned Lizard, the Kakapo, the Pig-Nosed Turtle, the Proboscis Monkey, and the Titicaca Scrotum Frog (That’s right, folks. A frog named after a man’s change-purse. Shudder…)

The goal of the contest was to raised awareness about endangered animals that do not receive the same amount of attention as the “cuter” animals. Scientist and broadcaster Professor Brian Cox became the unofficial spokesperson for the campaign, stating “I support the ugly animal campaign, there are too many people trying to save cute animals. They get all the press, and all the attention. Ugly animals are more deserving than cute animals. So I think it is a superb campaign.” The contest garnered hundreds of thousands of viewers to its webpage and resulted in thousands of votes. Famous British celebrities such as Simon Pegg and Stephen Fry even joined in on the campaign, tweeting support for their favorite entry.

Since the point is to raise awareness, let’s learn something about the blobfish. According to the British Science Association, the blobfish lives off the coast of Australia under higher pressure areas, anywhere from 600-1200 feet deep, and can grow up to 12 inches in length. Apparently, the only thing it does is bob around in the ocean…all day… Its gelatinous appearance both help it float without the aid of a gas bladder and allow it to just swallow up deep-water crustaceans. The blobfish is endangered because it is often swallowed up in the nets of fishing trawlers.

While the blobfish may have been chosen as the world’s ugliest animals by primarily Brits (Who is probably the best group of people to judge ugliness…), but I want to know what our readers think. Here is the rest of the top five. Which animal is the ugliest? Respond in the Comments Section below.

  • Lickable Wallpaper Mimics Willy Wonka’s Idea

Do the snozzberries taste like snozzberries?

In things that fall under the category of “most awesome idea ever”, a British chef and a public relations company–Mischief PR–have joined forces to create lickable wallpaper that tastes just like Jaffa Cakes, a popular cookie across the pond.

The paper–which is made up of hundreds of stickers resembling the cookies–is installed in an office building’s elevator as of now, but the team wants to sell it to other businesses in the hopes that it will relieve a bit of stress during the workday. Luckily, they’ve thought ahead and installed a bellhop in the elevator car who will remove each sticker once it’s been licked. No one wants ABL Jaffa Cakes (being American, I’ve never actually had a Jaffa Cake…but it’s the idea I’m touting here, not necessarily the choice of flavors).

Although those fortunate enough to be in on the wallpaper’s unveiling seem to be quite happy with the choice of flavors, the ideas for this are really limitless. Why not create mixed-drink wall coverings? Have a lick and experience the relaxation of a day at the poolside, yet suffer none of those pesky “drunk at work” consequences. Or steak and baked potato wallpaper to tide you over until dinnertime, with none of the calories!

Being a huge Edgar Wright fan, I immediately thought of one of my favorite scenes from the British show “Spaced“, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, in which Pegg’s character remembers he has Jaffa Cakes in his coat pocket FTW. (Warning, a bit of language makes the video NSFW).

Wonder what Tim and Daisy would think of this wallpaper?
