  • Anna Kendrick Not Holding Her Breath on Pitch Perfect 2

Anna Kendrick isn’t getting her hopes up.

Anna Kendrick knows that some movies become hits, while other very applaudable efforts fizzle. So while there was enough excitement over the first Pitch Perfect film to warrant doing another, she isn’t looking too far beyond that for the franchise until she sees how this one does.

“I’m really focused on putting this movie out and then letting the audience tell us what to do next. I’m not one to count my chickens, so I just want to see how this one does and find out if there’s an appetite for that before I even think about it,” Kendrick said. “I’ll drive myself crazy.”

Even the one that is in the can and headed to theaters made her a bit skittish. She didn’t want to just crank out a sequel for the sake of milking a franchise.

“I didn’t know if they were just going to do a sloppy seconds version of it, and that was the thing that made me nervous,” she said. “When I found out it was really going forward and it was going to be a real movie and everybody was coming back—there was no way I was going to miss out on that.”

Anna Kendrick sees Pitch Perfect 2 much the way her audience does, as very different from other summer blockbuster films. While it’s not all about explosions and life-threatening situations, she sees the film as daring in its own right.

“Even though the stakes are really high for these girls, the stakes in the grand scheme of things are super low,” she says. “My inspiration for the first movie, and hopefully for the second movie, was always Dodgeball. The universe of the movie is built on really low stakes, but I find that really charming! It doesn’t have to be like, the city’s going to blow up if we don’t defuse the bomb. It’s just people wanting to win.”

And when she hears that guys like Pitch Perfect too, she has a pretty brilliant response.

“It’s not like the humor excludes men,” she said. “My favorite thing on Twitter is guys being like, ‘Listen: I’m not a pussy, but Pitch Perfect is awesome.’ I’m like, ‘I didn’t think you were a pussy, sir.’ “

  • Mrs. Doubtfire Sequel Won’t Feature At Least One Actress from the Original

If and when the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel finally comes together, there’s one actress from the original film that most likely won’t be involved.

Mara Wilson, who played little Natalie in the 1993 hit, has taken to Twitter to state that she does not, nor will she have anything to do with the sequel. It’s a run-by fruiting!

“For the record, no, I do not have anything to do with the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel, nor will I,” she says. “I’m glad I had the chance to be in it, and I’m proud of what we did, but I don’t see how we could do it again. There are many, many reasons I don’t want to be in Mrs. Doubtfire 2. But they haven’t even asked me (yet), so no need to worry.”

It appears that the Matilda actress isn’t really a fan of sequels in general, unless they were planned from the beginning. I guess something like the Lord of the Rings trilogy would be OK in her book.

No word from Matthew Lawrence. Yet.

In case you missed the news, The Hollywood Reporter says that a Mrs. Doubtfire sequel is in the works at Fox 2000 studios, with Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus both attached. According to THR, the guy who wrote Elf, David Berenbaum, is writing the script.

A “Mrs. Doubtfire 2” was tossed about way back in the early 2000s, but momentum quickly died. A lot of people really love this movie, so it’ll be interesting to see the reaction to a sequel going forward. I see strong opinions, how bout you?

  • Disney CEO Confirms ‘Cars’ and ‘The Incredibles’ Sequels

Ever wonder what became of the Incredible family or what adventures were in store for Lightning McQueen and Mater after they got back to Radiator Springs? According to an announcement made by Walt Disney CEO Bog Iger, you will get to find out soon enough.

Almost ten years after the movie hit theaters, Disney has finally announced plans for a sequel to The Incredibles, the Pixar-animated film that focuses on a superhero family. In addition to the long-awaited The Incredibles sequel, it was also announced that another Cars film is in the making.

The announcement came at a company shareholders meeting where details for the upcoming Star Wars sequel were being discussed. While Iger didn’t give away any details–such as whether the Mr. Incredible’s kids will be all grown up in the new movie or potential release dates–the CEO did briefly confirm plans for the two sequels.

“We have plans for a new Cars movie and on top of that Brad Bird is already working on a great story for a new Incredibles film,” Iger said.

And, since a post made on a verified Twitter page is what really makes things official, Disney posted a tweet about the new Cars and Incredibles films earlier today:

Cue the fist pumps. As expected, the announcement of The Incredibles sequel received a lot of love. After all, The Incredibles was one of Disney’s more successful Pixar-animated films (and they all do pretty darn good), as it raked in $632,882,184 worldwide. While the virtual high fives for The Incredibles 2 were being doled out left and right, the announcement of another Cars sequel didn’t get quite as much love.

Cars 2 did worse than any other Pixar film aside from A Bug’s Life, bringing in $191,450,875 in U.S. ticket sales. Maybe some adults can’t appreciate another Cars film–which means they won’t be up for taking the kiddos to second and third viewings–but there is no doubt that the news will bring joy to little Lightning McQueen fans everywhere.

  • Zoe Saldana And Sam Worthington Sign On For Three Avatar Sequels

James Cameron talked about the idea of making sequels shortly after his huge hit film Avatar came out in 2009. The film earned an Oscar for Best Picture, and was a groundbreaking film in terms of the way that it was made.

As a result, it was announced recently that the team was planning for more films, and a total of three more are slated for release.

The film’s stars, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, have now signed on for the sequels, and will reprise their roles of Neytiri and Jake Sully, respectively.

While most details on the plot of the film are being kept secret until the film is released, it has been revealed that Zoe Saldana’s character will have had kids with Jake by the start of the next film.

The sequels are expected to be released back to back to back starting in December of 2016, giving fans something to look forward to for a long time. The exciting story will continue on the distant planet of Pandora in more than two years, but fans are able to get excited for the following installments already.

James Cameron is excited to bring back the two stars of the first Avatar and spoke highly of Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington when saying “Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoe captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.”

Stephen Lang, who played the Marine Colonel who went crazy in the first film and eventually died, was the first actor to sign on for the sequels. Cameron has yet to reveal how he will be able to resurrect him, which should make for an interesting plot twist in the next film.

Cameron will direct and produce the Avatar films alongside his producing partner Jon Landau. The sequels clearly have big shoes to fill in popularity as the original Avatar is still the highest-grossing film at the box office of all time.

Should more Avatar films be made? How do other fans feel about the upcoming films? Comment with your thoughts.

Since starring in Avatar in 2009, Zoe Saldana has appeared in a handful of films, and is set to appear in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy next. She was also recently cast in NBC’s Rosemary’s Baby miniseries and will likely reprise her role in the next Star Trek film, which is set for a release of 2016.

  • “Dumb And Dumber 2”: Jim Carrey Changes Mind

“Dumb And Dumber 2”: Jim Carrey Changes Mind

“Dumb And Dumber To”, the sequel to the enormously popular 1994 film starring Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey, has reportedly found a new home with Red Granite and Universal Pictures.

The movie has been in talks for a while now, but Carrey said last year that he didn’t think it was going to happen. Fans of the original–and of Carrey’s–wondered how he could turn down such a plum role, especially when his career has been a little lackluster in recent years. But Carrey said though he was interested, he didn’t feel movie execs were into the idea, and he didn’t want to keep pitching to a lackluster response. Ultimately, it got pitched to Warner Brothers and things were looking up, but the studio dropped it last week, leaving room for Universal to jump in and snatch it up.

Now, it seems, the movie has been given new life, and both Carrey and Daniels are said to be returning to their roles of Lloyd and Harry. The Farrelly brothers are also returning, both in director status and as writers, as they’ve redone the script.

  • “The Purge” Sequel Already In The Works

“The Purge” may have just opened, but considering it took only $3 million to make and raked in over $36 million, it’s not surprising that producers are already plotting out the sequel.

The film, which tells the story of a family trapped in their home when the city runs amok during a government-instituted 12-hour period where anything goes–even murder–stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. Helmed by Jason Blum, who did “Paranormal Activity”, the movie hasn’t gotten the best reviews so far; however, horror films rarely do, and considering the success of the “Paranormal Activity” films, it’s not too far off-track to believe the same won’t happen for this one.

Insiders believe the sequel may be out within the next year.
