Manny the selfie-snapping cat becomes an Instagram sensation

Social media users have probably seen enough cat photos to last them nine lifetimes, but there’s one moggy Instagram can’t seem to get enough of.

The feline is obsessed with cameras, particularly GoPros, and has a knack for capturing the purrfect selfie, according to cat-themed website Love Meow.

The work depicts Jobs in his trademark black turtleneck jumper carrying an early model of his Apple computer and with a black bin bag slung over his shoulder.

With today’s announcement, SpaceIL is the first of the 16 Lunar X Prize teams to book a ride off the planet. If the mission succeeds, it will be the first Israeli mission — as well as the first private spaceflight mission — to soft-land a vehicle on the lunar surface. Eran Privman, CEO of SpaceIL, claimed the group isn’t focused on the competition, but they are confident they can win. “I promise you once we land on the Moon, we’ll look around and see we are the first,” he said.

Only three nations have ever landed a spacecraft intact on the Moon: the United States, Russia, and China. Many countries have slammed lunar orbiters or probes into the Moon to study its environment, but gently landing a spacecraft is trickier. The Moon is big enough to have a gravitational pull, but it doesn’t have an atmosphere to slow incoming objects. Spacecraft in lunar orbit must fire retro-rockets, very precisely, in the opposite direction of the Moon. That way they can slowly descend without slamming into the rock. It’s a delicate procedure that usually requires a lot of time and money, which is why only government agencies have been able to do it up until now.

A trait carried over from their debut, luckily for us listeners

In a strait-jacket, he swung to the mad rockings of the gales. That it was only then, on the homeward voyage, after the encounter, that the final monomania seized him, seems all but certain from the fact that, at intervals during the passage, he was a raving lunatic; and, though unlimbed of a leg, yet such vital strength yet lurked in his Egyptian chest, and was moreover intensified by his delirium, that his mates were forced to lace him fast, even there, as he sailed, raving in his hammock. In a strait-jacket, he swung to the mad rockings of the gales. And, when running into more sufferable latitudes, the ship, with mild stun’sails spread, floated across the tranquil tropics, and, to all appearances, the old man’s delirium seemed left behind him with the Cape Horn swells.

Human madness is oftentimes a cunning and most feline thing. When you think it fled, it may have but become transfigured into some still subtler form. Ahab’s full lunacy subsided not, but deepeningly contracted; like the unabated Hudson, when that noble Northman flows narrowly, but unfathomably through the Highland gorge.

Lauren Mayberry’s lyrics touches on elements of heartbreak

God the direful madness was now gone; even then, Ahab, in his hidden self, raved on. Human madness is oftentimes a cunning and most feline thing. When you think it fled, it may have but become transfigured into some still subtler form. Ahab’s full lunacy subsided not, but deepeningly contracted; like the unabated Hudson, when that noble Northman flows narrowly, but unfathomably through the Highland gorge.

jh123But, as in his narrow-flowing monomania, not one jot of Ahab’s broad madness had been left behind; so in that broad madness, not one jot of his great natural intellect had perished. That before living agent, now became the living instrument. If such a furious trope may stand, his special lunacy stormed his general sanity, and carried it, and turned all its concentred cannon upon its own mad mark. I knew the Indians would soon discover that they were on the wrong trail and that the search for me would be renewed in the right direction as soon as they located my tracks. I had gone but a short distance further when what seemed to be an excellent trail opened up around the face of a high cliff. The trail was level and quite broad and led upward and in the general direction I wished to go. The cliff arose for several hundred feet on my right, and on my left was an equal and nearly perpendicular drop to the bottom of a rocky ravine.

  • Bison Selfie Turns Ugly for Woman at Yellowstone

When deciding whether or not to take a selfie with a wild animal, you gotta do some risk-reward calculations.

Is taking a selfie with a bison worth the risk? I don’t know, it’s not that cool. But hey, if you want to risk it …

Don’t be like this 43-year-old mom, who was unable to surreptitiously snap the photo before being rammed by the camera-shy beat.

Officials at Yellowstone National Park say that the woman and her six-year-old daughter were attempting to snap a selfie with a bison – but things went awry.

Apparently, the bison charged, hit the woman on her right side, and tossed her.

Maybe they should’ve tried a selfie from a greater distance. Park officials say they lineup up abut six yards from the clearly no-nonsense bison.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

“The family said they read the warnings in both the park literature and the signage, but saw other people close to the bison, so they thought it would be OK,” Colleen Rawlings, a ranger in the park’s Old Faithful District told CNN. “People need to recognize that Yellowstone wildlife is wild, even though they seem docile. This woman was lucky that her injuries were not more severe.”

Plenty of people have lived to enjoy the likes on their own bison selfies:

    Yellowstone is pretty cool #bisonselfie

But really, you gotta be careful.

This isn’t the first bison encounter that’s made headlines. Just a couple months ago, a 16-year-old girl was gored while trying to pose for a picture with a Yellowstone bison.

The National Park Service recommends a 25 yard buffer zone between people and bison.

“Visitors are reminded that Yellowstone wildlife is wild. Wildlife should not be approached, no matter how tame or calm they appear. Visitors must stay at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves and at least 25 yards (23 m) away from all other large animals – bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes. Bison can sprint three times faster than humans can run and are unpredictable and dangerous. Just because an animal may be near a trail or boardwalk does not mean it should be approached within the recommended safe distances. Visitors are advised to give the animals enough space and be willing to alter their plans to avoid interacting with an animal in close proximity,” says the NPS.

    Be smart out there, folks.

  • Kendall Jenner Beats NSFW Post with Topless Doppelganger [Pic]

Kendall Jenner turned some heads when she posted a selfie on Independence Day that featured her covering a presumably-visible nipple. The picture has gotten 1.3 million likes so far on Instagram. That puts it at about half the number of Kendall’s most popular pic, the one that beat sister Kim Kardashian’s record, which has 2.7 million.

The Instagram photo got loads of coverage for seemingly barely skirting the rules on the social media site. Kendall wore a pair of black briefs and a see-through top.

She seemed to be in a dressing room or at a hair station. Home gym equipment is visible in the background.

Jenner captioned the pic with, “Coffee?” The caption seems to refer to her coffee cup in the foreground of the picture.

    coffee?

A photo posted by Kendall Jenner (@kendalljenner) on

But Kendall has since posted another picture. This one is actually not of her, but is an iconic photo from the first Woodstock Festival event in 1969. It features a bare-breasted woman with peace symbols painted on her chest to strategically cover her nipples.

Jenner captioned this: Land of the Free

While this is, again, not a picture of Kendall Jenner, the woman in the picture bears a striking resemblance to the KUWTK star and model.

So far, that image has gotten 793,000 likes.

Jenner has made a practice of serving up pictures and videos on Instagram that titillate and please her fans. She has posed topless for GQ, with her hands over her breasts, of course.

Kendall Jenner has stated in interviews in the past that she thinks her phone and social media presence is an almost unreal aspect of her life.

“I think social media has taken over for our generation. It’s a big part of our lives and it’s kind of sad. I hate it sometimes, like, I literally want to throw my phone so I can’t look at it. It’s all a made-up world if you think about it. Social media, everything, this interview, everything. It’s not real. It’s pretty crazy.”

Nonetheless, she continues to post and play with followers.

  • ISIS ‘Moron’ Posts Selfie Online, Gets HQ Building Bombed [Pic]

ISIS may end up being a footnote in the history of the 21st century sooner than we think, if this kind of idiocy keeps up.

Air Force General Hawk Carlisle tells the story of how an ISIS operative took a selfie at an ISIS headquarters building, posted that selfie online, and led American forces right to the location of the building.

“It was a post on social media to bombs on target in less than 24 hours,” Carlisle said. “Incredible work when you think about.”

General Carlisle is head of Air Combat Command. He said that airmen at Hurlburt Field, Florida, with the 361st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, saw their opportunity to his ISIS where they live by scouring social media

“The guys that were working down out of Hurlburt, they’re combing through social media and they see some moron standing at this command. And in some social media, open forum, bragging about the command and control capabilities for Daesh, ISIL. And these guys go: ‘We got an in.’ So they do some work, long story short, about 22 hours later through that very building, three [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] take that entire building out.”

The general did not identify at the time how the Intelligence unit determined the ISIS location. They may have been able to use landmarks or physical characteristics of the area, cross-checked against satellite photos, to find the target. Or perhaps the picture posted contained geotag data that gave them ISIS coordinates almost down to the foot.

Geotagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media, including photographs. The necessary tools are often built into camera and camera phones and either use the mobile phone networks or global positioning system (GPS) to pinpoint a given photo. The tool is very useful for photographers wanting to keep track of the places they shoot.

The same technology can also have applications in forensics. Websites such as Flickr and many other photo-sharing and social networking sites can also utilize this metadata or allow users to add the appropriate geotags to their photos manually.

However they got to the end result, three bombs leveled the poor “moron’s” building, along with any occupants cheering on the beheadings and terror the ISIS organization foments.

  • Eva Mendes Has A Big Day! Actress Posts First Selfie To Help A Special Boy

There are people like the Kardashians who love to document every second of their lives via selfies. And then there are people like Eva Mendes who have never taken a selfie before.

    Until now.

Months after signing up for an Instagram account, the Hitch actress finally gave in and posted her very first selfie. But she did it her own way – by making sure that the photo is for a good cause.

The selfie shows the beautiful actress smiling at the camera and wearing a statement t-shirt that says “Hopes and Prayers for Andrew Wilson.”

“This is my first selfie and it’s for an amazing cause,” she captioned the photo.

Mendes also thanked everyone who has donated to Andrew Wilson’s cause and encouraged more people to do same.

A photo posted by Eva Mendes (@evamendes) on

The 41-year-old actress also mentioned that she will be signing the shirt she’s wearing and will give it away to the person who makes a donation within 48 hours, adding that people who want to make a donation can click the link on her bio.

“Together let’s help this family get their son the proper treatment that he needs,” she said.

Mendes also posted a picture of Andrew and true to her description he seemed “full of smiles” and appeared to be “a ball of energy.”

A video posted by Eva Mendes (@evamendes) on

The 17-month-old Andrew was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancer that attacks babies and young children, last year.

Since then, his friends and family have tried everything to keep the family together and to get Andrew the treatment that he needs. And with Mendes’ help, there’s an even better chance of that happening.

Cancer is an issue close to the actress’ heart. Her own brother is currently fighting the disease as well.

The Training Day actress shared her family’s experience with the dreaded disease during the Stand Up to Cancer event which was held earlier this year.

  • Lindsay Lohan Aims to Break Internet [Pic]; Starts Shallow Trend

Lindsay Lohan Aims to Break Internet [Pic]; Starts Shallow Trend

Lindsay Lohan has thrown down the gauntlet. The actress has taken to Twitter to announce the challenge that she intends to “break the Internet”. But, unlike a certain other celebrity who aimed to do so, she intends to do it with clothes on.

The picture Lindsay Lohan posted (see below) is a mirror selfie of the actress straddling between a sofa and what appears to be a glass-top coffee table

The dangerous bit of acrobatics appears to have been necessary to get the full-length shot she needed to show off her hogh-waisted black pants and semi-sheer top. The ensemble was capped off with a black fedora.

Lindsay Lohan is indeed clothed, but there is plenty of cleavage on display in the picture. She hashtagged the tweet with #majorlooks.

Also on display is a posh home environment. This isn’t some hotel room or bathroom selfie. In the background you can see a vase of flowers, a fruit bowl, a stack of magazines, a water bottle, and what may be a fur jacket.

As of this writing, Lindsay Lohan’s selfie has been retweeted over 2,400 times and favorited over 7,300 times. She has 8.85 million followers — who knows how much of that is legit, but there it is.

The #majorlooks hashtag is sometimes associated with high fashion. But it seems to have been dormant until Lindsay Lohan used it. Then it took of and trended on Twitter. But most of the tweets with that tag seem to be of the same Lindsay Lohan pic, plus a smattering of bots looking to net followers.

  • Everyone Must Get a Selfie with This Gold Van Double Parked at a Walmart

In Maricopa, Arizona, there’s a new local celebrity.

It’s not a person, but an old, gold van that’s terribly parked in the local Walmart parking lot. For some reason, the golden Oldsmobile Silhouette is the must-selfie location of the year.

There’s even a 500+ member Facebook group devoted to discussing and posting selfies with the van.

“This group was made for the infamous ‘Gold Van’ parked at our local Wal-mart. This van has been double parked, in the same prime parking spots for about two weeks now. There has been multiple facebook posts made on various Maricopa facebook pages in regards to this van. Since this van is so ‘locally famous’ now, of course we HAVE to get a selfie with it!!!” says the group’s description.

According to AZ Central, the van was recently abandoned in the Walmart parking lot near State Route 238 and Porter Road. Since then, it’s become a thing for resident of Maricopa to go take selfies with it. Nobody knows to whom it belongs, or how long it’ll stay double parked at Walmart.

As it stands, there are hundreds of selfies with the van. Small town America is truly incredible.

  • Selfie Seekers Caught Carving Initials into the Colosseum

What would you do for the perfect selfie? Would you deface a landmark – one of the most famous historical locations in the world?

    Two Californian women did.

The Guardian reports that security at Rome’s Colosseum caught the women, aged 21 and 25, shortly after carving their initials into the ancient rock. The two were apparently able to scratch a “J” and an “N”, each a few inches tall, and then snap a selfie before police caught on.

The authorities were tipped off by other tourists.

The two women could face penalties for defacing the site, as it is strictly forbidden.

“There’s a difference in perception. Museums are treated like churches, sacred places where there are things of great value. Whereas the Colosseum is an incomplete building which has already been robbed,” a spokesman with the Special Superintendency for the Archaeological Heritage of Rome told The Guardian.

It’s just some old, crumbling rock, right? What’s the big deal?

According to The Daily Dot, the section the tourists carved up is part of a 19th-century papal restoration project. The specific part of the Colosseum, however, was first constructed in 80 AD.

Remember kids, try not to go full vandal for the sake of a selfie.

  • Selfies Contributed to Fatal Plane Crash, Says NTSB

In May of last year, two men were killed when their Cessna 150 crashed in a field outside Denver, Colorado.

Now, the National Transportation Safety Board has issued its official report – and the agency is saying that selfies likely contributed to the fatal crash.

According to the NTSB, a GoPro recovered near the scene gave clues as to what could have caused the plane to go down in the early morning hours.

“An onboard recording device (GoPro) was found near the wreckage and the files were recovered. Based on the available information, it is likely that the GoPro files were recorded on May 30 and May 31, 2014, with the final GoPro file recorded during the 6-minute flight in the traffic pattern. The accident flight was not recorded. The GoPro recordings revealed that the pilot and various passengers were taking self-photographs with their cell phones and, during the night flight, using the camera’s flash function during the takeoff roll, initial climb, and flight in the traffic pattern,” says the report.

“A postaccident examination of the airplane did not reveal any preimpact anomalies that would have precluded normal operation. Based on the wreckage distribution, which was consistent with a high-speed impact, and the degraded visual reference conditions, it is likely that the pilot experienced spatial disorientation and lost control of the airplane. The evidence is consistent with an aerodynamic stall and subsequent spin into terrain. Based on the evidence of cell phone use during low-altitude maneuvering, including the flight immediately before the accident flight, it is likely that cell phone use during the accident flight distracted the pilot and contributed to the development of spatial disorientation and subsequent loss of control. A review of the pilot’s logbooks did not show that he met the currency requirements for flight in instrument meteorological conditions or night flight with passengers.”

    [bolding ours]

This is the official probable cause for the accident, according to the NTSB:

The pilot’s loss of control and subsequent aerodynamic stall due to spatial disorientation in night instrument meteorological conditions. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s distraction due to his cell phone use while maneuvering at low-altitude.

    Selfie smart, people.

  • Kim Kardashian Shares New Book Cover Photo

Kim Kardashian Shares New Book Cover Photo

Kim Kardashian is publishing a new book called Selfish, and while this won’t come as a surprise to those who follow the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, it makes others wonder why the publishing world is allowing such an atrocity to be printed. Money is, of course, the reason. Selfish will feature–wait for it–selfies. Just imagine–you will one day be able to buy a book that features nothing but selfies of Kim Kardashian.

Kim excitedly shared the selfie she has chosen as the cover for Selfish just a few days ago. She shared the photo via Instagram.

“So proud to share the cover of my book Selfish, out in May! Thank you Rizzoli for making this happen & being the best partner. A big thank you to the Donda team & Kanye for inspiring this idea & helping to design this book so I can share a decade of selfies in such an intimate & artistic way! Can’t wait for you to all see this book! Xo #Selfish #Rizzoli #Donda,” she captured the image that features an up close and personal shot of her ample cleavage.

Kim Kardashian is also featured, along with this new selfie for Selfish, on her publisher’s website.

“For the first time in print, this book presents some of Kim’s favorite selfies in one volume–from her favorite throwback images to current ultra-sexy glam shots–and provides readers with a behind-the-scenes look into this larger-than-life star,” the website reads.

The ‘author’s’ bio reads, “A new mum to her daughter, North, and happily married to the rapper Kanye West, Kim Kardashian is on top of the world, and this collection of hand-picked images from her personal archive is a tribute to her fans who have supported her through her very highly publicized journey.”

Will you be checking out Selfish by Kim Kardashian when it appears in book stores? Hopefully she isn’t wearing herself out in the ‘writing’ of this upcoming book.

Maybe there will be a sequel?

  • Muhammad Ali Posts Selfie, Knocking Out Rumors

Muhammad Ali just served a knockout once again. This time the sucker on the receiving end was rumor that the legend was down for the count.

Speculation has been swirling lately that Muhammad Ali’s health is deteriorating rapidly. The legendary boxer has been battling Parkinson’s Disease for 30 years.

The concern over Ali’s health was sparked by comments made by his brother Rahman, who told a London paper that Ali is unable to speak properly.

“Unfortunately certain family members that don’t understand Parkinson’s might misspeak because they don’t see him as often,” Ali’s daughter Hana said recently, “so when they do see him, they think he’s doing worse than what he is. But he is fine.”

“We call him in the mornings, and he still enjoys being Muhammad Ali. He’s not in any pain. He has a regular routine he does,” she said.

But the Champ recently opened an Instagram account, and one of the first things he did was pull a Kim Kardashian: Cassius Clay posted a selfie.

As for his health, Ali is not only a celebrity patient, he has his own Parkinson Center in Louisville. And his personal physician is director of the Center.

“[Ali] is in good spirits,” Dr. Abraham Lieberman of the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center said. “He has some trouble walking but, overall, for someone who has had Parkinson’s for 30 years, he is doing OK.”

  • Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi Celebrates Their 10-Year Anniversary With A Selfie

The Aussie star of the hit show Arrested Development was all smiles as DeGeneres snapped a quick photo of them during their romantic stroll. The two chose to be make-up free for the picture, showing off their beautiful faces.

The next day, De Rossi showed her fans another cute photo of her with the host of The Ellen DeGeneres show. The actress rested her head against her wife’s face as they hung out together to spend a quiet Sunday.

The couple continued their anniversary celebration during Thanksgiving as seen in a photo posted by De Rossi. Then they had an intimate dinner with their friends, effectively shutting down the controversies surrounding them.

Despite their posts of admiration, the two are constantly bombarded with divorce rumors. In a recent interview with People Magazine, DeGeneres gushed about her wife, saying: “I love her so much it kills me.”

Fans of the couple sent them loving messages on Twitter, reminding them to stay strong despite the on-going rumors. De Rossi retweeted a few fans and thanked them for the massive support that they’re showing.

The couple began dating in December of 2004. The couple lives in their Beverly Hills home with their three dogs and four cats.

‘Selfie’, Recently Canceled, Will Finish Up the Season on Hulu

You’re probably not going to get a second season of Selfie, but at least you’ll be able to finish out the current season

Despite some positive reviews, ABC canceled its freshman comedy earlier this month. According to the network, it was a ratings issue. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “the series opened to a mediocre 5.3 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among adults 18-to-49.” And things just went south from there.

The series, which stars Karen Gillan and John Cho, aired its last episode on November 11. Now, the answer to the question of where the remaining, already-shot episodes will land is clear – Hulu.

    Here’s confirmation from the showrunner:

The first of six remaining episodes will hit Hulu and ABC.com on Tuesday, and a new one will be released each week for the next five weeks.

At least Selfie fans will have some sort of closure.

  • Katy Perry Channels Her Inner Lolita With Selfie

Katy Perry is not usually one of those celebrities that posts selfies to her Twitter account. However, she apparently could not resist yesterday.

The Roar singer wrote in the caption of her sexy, cleavage-baring selfie, “Feeling v Lolita rn.” The “rn” stands for right now. Perry is wearing black lace lingerie, has her hair up in what looks to be a bun, and is lying down on a bed in the picture. She certainly has a “come hither” look in her eyes.

The “Lolita” in her post is a reference to Vladimir Nabokov’s controversial 1955 novel. In the book, a man in his late 30s becomes sexually involved with his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The popularity of the novel has turned the name “Lolita” into a way to describe a sexually active or sexy girl.

Perry has discussed her infatuation with the character of Lolita in the past, and has even named a false set of eyelashes after the fictional precocious young girl. Additionally, Perry’s 2008 album One of the Boys is a homage to the Lolita in Stanley Kubrick’s 1962 film adaptation starring Sue Lyons as the titular character. The album cover features the pop star dressed in 1950s-era short-shorts and red belly tank top.

Perry is currently in Australia on her Prismatic World Tour. It is the singer’s third concert tour. She has been on the road for over six months in support of her fourth studio album Prism. Perry will play additional dates in Australia, including gigs in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. The international tour runs to March 2015.

  • ‘Selfie’ Has Been Canceled by ABC

Did you like ABC’s new sitcom with the rather unfortunate title, Selfie? Some people did. I can’t say whether or not I liked it, as I never tuned in.

    Either way, it’s gone.

Deadline reports that ABC has canceled the show. As you might expect to hear, the ratings just weren’t there, though it did perform better that the other recently canceled ABC show, Manhattan Love Story.

Selfie will still air a new episode this coming Tuesday, but its status after that is up in the air.

Selfie stars Karen Gillan and John Cho and follows a 20-something who “enlists the help of a marketing expert to revamp her image in the real world” following a viral video scandal.

    Jenny McCarthy Shares Newlywed Selfie

Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg have shared their first newlywed selfie.

The 41-year-old television host and 45-year-old actor said their vows in St. Charles, Illinois on Sunday, August 31.

The couple wed in an intimate 20-minute ceremony, surrounded by their closest friends and family members.

McCarthy revealed to People in July that she didn’t care where the ceremony took place.

“I could get married in Kentucky Fried Chicken,” she said. “I don’t care as long as the heart is in the ceremony.”

Unfortunately, there was one person who was not able to attend the couple’s nuptials. Donnie’s brother Mark Wahlberg had a prior engagement and was not able to attend. However, he did send his love to the couple through a congratulatory video. “I love you, Donnie, we’re very happy for you,” he said. “Sorry we couldn’t be there, we’ll see you soon.”

After the couple returned from their honeymoon, they decided to share a selfie of themselves on Twitter. “Mr & Mrs Wahlberg, checking in from heaven,” they captioned the photo. “Thank you for all of your well wishes. #happy.”

McCarthy announced her engagement on the morning show The View back in April. “This weekend I was sitting with Donnie … and he went into the other room and out came Evan [her 11-year-old son] with a card that said ‘Will’ and he handed it to me,” she said at the time. “Then Evan ran away and Evan came in with a card that said ‘You.’ … I just started crying and then Evan came back into the room with the word ‘Marry’ — but spelled wrong.”

“The last time, Donnie came out with Evan and Donnie’s shirt said ‘Me’ … and he got down on his knee,” she continued.

  • Kim Kardashian Shares Makeup-Free Selfie

    Kim Kardashian Shares Makeup-Free Selfie

It doesn’t happen often, but there are some days that Kim Kardashian feels like going au naturale!

On Saturday, Kim shared a photo, obviously a selfie, of herself completely makeup-free. “No make up kinda weekend,” the Keeping up with the Kardashians star captioned the Instagram photo.

Kim is normally seen completely dolled up, perfect from head to toe. However, it seems as though she is like every other woman, and just needs a day to relax and not worry about the maintenance.

Kim’s Saturday look was completely different from her Friday look when she took her daughter North to the San Diego zoo. Also along for the trip was Kim’s momager Kris Jenner, her grandmother Mary Jo, and her sister Kourtney Kardashian. Of course Kourtney’s children, Penelope, two, and Mason, four, were in tow as well.

  • Scrabble Gets with the Times, Adds Selfie, Hashtag, and Mixtape

It’s been about a decade since the Scrabble dictionary received a major update. But when the fifth edition of the The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary comes out on Wednesday, it’ll allow you to play your favorite new kewl internets words – as well as words you’ve been dying to play since 1988.

“The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary now includes favorite words from the past decade, making game play even more entertaining and relevant,” adds Jonathan Berkowitz, Vice President of Global Brand Strategy & Marketing at Hasbro. “We’re also thrilled to add GEOCACHE, winner of our Scrabble Word Showdown game earlier this year, and the first fan-voted word playable in the game.”

What trendy words of the past decade are we talking here? How about chillax, a verb meaning “to calm down.” How about joypad, a “device with buttons to control computer images.” Oh, and there’s mixtape, a “compilation of songs recorded from various sources.”

    Bitchin’.

Overindulgent sarcasm aside, Scrabble has added the ubiquitous selfie to the dictionary. Finally. Sure, other dictionaries have been adding the word selfie over the past few years, but you doesn’t mean shit until you’re a legally-playable word in Scrabble. And I say that in all sincerity. Selfie, you’ve made it kid.

Other words included in the new edition? Bromance, Dubstep, Frenemy, Hashtag, Sodoku, Texter, and Webzine.

I’ll give $100 to the first person that can prove that they’ve ever said the word webzine.*

*Not really. I’m such a buzzkill (new to the dictionary as well!).

  • Shoplifting Selfie Arrest: What Happened?

    Shoplifting Selfie Arrest: What Happened?

It turns out that the “selfie” craze wasn’t just the greatest thing to ever happen to the attention whores of the world.

Law enforcement officials have a reason to be thankful for them, too.

Or at least thankful that some individuals don’t know that sharing photographic evidence of their theft is in fact a TERRIBLE idea.

This bit of wisdom evaded 27-year-old Danielle Saxton, who was arrested over the weekend and charged with retail theft.

The West Frankford, Ill. native posted a photo on her Facebook page with the message, “Love my new dress”.

Unfortunately for Saxton, the colorful leopard print dress she is accused of stealing from Mortie’s Boutique is one of a kind.

The boutique saw surveillance footage of a woman making off with a dress without paying for it.

They used their Facebook page to ask for help in locating the thief.

Store owner Kert Williams said that they simply left a message requesting that if anyone in the area had any info about the stolen leopard print dress to contact them immediately.

Soon after the store’s social media page was bombarded with helpful messages.

Williams said that at around 6:30 pm someone sent them a picture of Saxton wearing the distinct dress.

“There is only one neon leopard print dress that we have,” said Williams.

Police also recovered two T-shirts, sunglasses, and a necklace that Saxton allegedly took from Mortie’s Boutique along with the leopard-print dress.

Saxton’s stupidity is not unique, as the boutique says it’s used its Facebook page in the past to bust thieves.

Do you like being photographed after stealing? Never fear! In addition to the TMI selfie on social media, you’ll also have a mug shot of your very own to cherish.

    Here is Saxton’s:

  • Kylie Jenner: Dangerous Moves With Selfies

Kylie Jenner: Dangerous Moves With Selfies

Kylie Jenner has been behaving in a dangerous manner when taking selfies recently. The youngest member of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians family took a selfie while driving her luxury SUV and posted it to Vine. In the Vine, as seen above, Kylie Jenner is clearly getting into the sexy music she’s playing. Wearing barely there denim shorts and a gray t-shirt, she even closes her eyes for a couple of seconds behind the wheel of her Mercedes G class. At one point she removes both of her hands from the steering wheel. How she managed not to crash her vehicle into another or veer off the road is almost incomprehensible.

Kylie’s dangerous selfie has definitely made news.

“The 16-year-old was captured taking her hands off the wheel as she flicked her hair and danced to sultry music while sat in the driver’s seat,” The Mirror reported. “Kylie took her love affair with social media a little too far as she posed for a video while driving.”

Kylie Jenner’s selfie-while-driving wasn’t the only one she took that day. A short time later she posted another one on Instagram. Fortunately she wasn’t driving at the time.

On Thursday, Kylie was definitely behind the wheel of her SUV when she posted this selfie via Twitter. It’s unknown if the car was running or if she took the picture prior to driving.

Kylie has certainly seen her fair share of selfie experts–right in her own home. Big sister Kim Kardashian is known for posting selfies of her hind quarters. Even mom Kris Jenner posts the vain pictures from time to time.

What has gone so horribly wrong with our culture to prompt teenage girls to take the kinds of risks Kylie Jenner took in her vehicle while taking her selfie? Is there nothing she does that isn’t permanently preserved via some type of media? Is this happening to all teens or is this a tragic result of growing up on a reality show?

It’s no secret that texting and sometimes even just talking on a cell phone can cause serious–even deadly–car accidents. Taking selfies just seems like a ridiculously indulgent pastime to engage in while behind the wheel of a moving car.

  • Stroke Signs in Viral Selfie Save Woman’s Life

A woman in Toronto may very well be alive today because she pulled her car over to take a selfie.

Stacy Yepes, who lives in the Toronto area, had been experiencing some odd tingling and numbness sensations for three days. The tingling would come, then go away again. She had been to the hospital to have the situation looked at. Doctors performed tests, decided that the whole thing was simply stress-related, and sent Yepes on her way with instructions to control her breathing. She even had the same sensation in the hospital parking lot as she was leaving.

But the next day, when the tingling started again, Yepes pulled her car over and grabbed her cell phone.

“The sensation is happening again,” Stacey Yepes says on the selfie video. “It’s all tingling on left side.”

Doctors say that Yepes action may have saved her life.

“I think it was just to show somebody, because I knew it was not stress-related,” Yepes said. “And I thought if I could show somebody what was happening, they would have a better understanding.”

Doctors now say that Yepes was having “mini-strokes” caused by plaque buildup in her arteries that restricted blood flow. She has been put on medications to help the situation, including blood thinners, and has not had any mini-strokes since.

The American Stroke Association uses the acronym F.A.S.T. to help people understand the signs of a stroke.

    F- Face dropping
    A- Arm weakness
    S- Speech difficulty
    T – Time to call 911

In the video, Yepes face clearly droops on one side when she tries to smile. She explains that it is “all tingly on the left side”. Her speech is slurred. She explains that her “hand is hard lift up”. These symptoms all fit the signs of a stroke.

Doctors are now saying that the video is a textbook example of what to look for in a stroke. They are recommending the video to students and patients so they can have a clear picture of the symptoms, perhaps saving another life in the days to come.

    Then again, there’s this …
