  • Sean Connery’s Wife Micheline Roquebrune Ordered to Stand Trial

Sean Connery’s wife, Micheline Roquebrune, has been ordered to stand trial in Spain for her alleged part in a multi-million-euro fraud, according to judicial authorities.

AFP reports that the Roquebrune, the wife of the 85-year-old Scottish film star best known for his portrayal of James Bond, and could face up to two years in jail and a fine of upwards of $24.4 million if found guilty of involvement in an alleged operation that defrauded the state, according to the Supreme Court of the southern region of Andalucia.

The case, in which Sean Connery is also cited but has not been indicted, is part of an investigation known as Goldfinger, which dates to 2010 and involves “an urban development operation linked to a plot of land in which the villa of the Connery’s was located,” the court added on Thursday.

According to the Daily Mail, the investigation is named after the 1964 James Bond film starring Connery. The case stems from allegations surrounding the sale in 1999 of their luxury seaside villa near Marbella in southern Spain for an estimate $9 million.

The villa was subsequently torn down and a four-storey luxury apartment complex with 72 apartments was built in its place in 2004-2005, despite zoning and planning regulations which stipulated that only five homes could be constructed on the property.

The court said a summons would be sent to the couple’s home in the Bahamas to inform Sean Connery and Michelle Roquebrune of the court’s decision.

  • Pierce Brosnan Disses His Performances as James Bond

Pierce Brosnan doesn’t seem to have a very high opinion of his performances as James Bond.

Brosnan, 60, played the iconic role in four films from 1995 to 2002, but he told the Telegraph that watching his performances is unbearable.

“It’s just never good enough,” he said. “It’s a horrible feeling.”

The Remington Steele actor said his feelings stem from the pressure of following in Roger Moore’s and Sean Connery’s footsteps and the insecurities he harbored about playing the role.

“I felt I was caught in a time warp between Roger and Sean,” he added. “It was a very hard one to grasp the meaning of, for me. The violence was never real, the brute force of the man was never palpable. It was quite tame, and the characterization didn’t have a follow-through of reality, it was surface. But then that might have had to do with my own insecurities in playing him as well.”

Brosnan praised Daniel Craig‘s performance as 007.

“Daniel is James Bond; I was James Bond; I think there’s enough room on the stage to elbow my way in and find some audience,” Brosnan said.

Brosnan also admitted that his run as Bond ended badly with 2002’s Die Another Day.

“I was lucky enough to make four Bond films. It finished in rather shambolic fashion, but I have no bitterness, no resentment,” said Brosnan.

And even though the sexy Irishman may have issues with his performances, he says he is grateful for the opportunity of playing 007 and the perks of being Bond.

“I hold Bond dear to my heart,” he said. “I’ve traveled the world as an ambassador for that character and I had a bloody great time doing it.”

  • Sean Connery Champions Scottish Independence

The original James Bond, Sean Connery, recently wrote an essay concerning the independence of his native Scotland, which was featured on the website of The New Statesman. While Connery presently resides in the Bahamas, he’s stated that if a referendum that is to take place in six months separates Scotland from the United Kingdom, he would return to his homeland.

    Connery, 83, wrote:

“More than anything else, culture defines a country. It provides international visibility and stimulates global interest more than a nation’s politics, business or economy ever can. So, with our colorful history, strong identity, deep rooted traditions, a commitment to artistic innovation and diverse and beautiful landscapes, Scotland is truly blessed.”

Referring to his essay, Connery added on Tuesday that “As a Scot and as someone with a lifelong love for both Scotland and the arts, I believe the opportunity of independence is too good to miss.”

Sir Thomas Sean Connery is best known for his portrayal of James Bond in 7 films, and won a best supporting actor Oscar for his role in The Untouchables. The actor has been voted as “The Greatest Living Scot” and “Scotland’s Greatest Living National Treasure.” In 1989, he was declared “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine and in 1999, at the age of 69, he was voted “Sexiest Man of the Century”.

Here’s a clip of some of Connery’s best performances:

Connery elaborates on his views in his essay, “Simply put – there is no more creative an act than creating a new nation. Scotland has an opportunity to make a step change. More than anything else, culture defines a country. It provides international visibility and stimulates global interest more than a nation’s politics, business or economy ever can. So, with our colourful history, strong identity, deep rooted traditions, a commitment to artistic innovation and diverse and beautiful landscapes, Scotland is truly blessed.”

  • Sean Connery Encourages Independence for Scotland

The name Sean Connery is one of the few names still synonymous with James Bond. Like the daring 007 character portrayed through the well-known films Sir Sean Connery brought to life, the actor has shown his own daring nature by voicing his desire for Scotland’s independence. Connery has recently expressed his wish that Scotland vote in favor of leaving the UK. According to the New Statesman, Connery claims that the decision should be made by “the people who choose to live and work there [Scotland]” however, the actor does not hold back his support for such a prospect. “Scotland has the chance to make a step change,” Connery shared.

Though Connery does not presently reside in Scotland, he articulated his wishes for Scotland. “I fully respect the choice facing Scotland in September is a matter for the people who choose to work and live there — that’s only right, but as a Scot with a lifelong love of Scotland and the arts, I believe the opportunity of independence is too good to miss. Simply put there is no more creative an act than creating a new nation. A Yes vote will capture the world’s attention. There will be a renewed focus on our culture and politics, giving us an unparalleled opportunity to promote our heritage and creative excellence.”

The legendary actor has a broad, global fan base, and his celebrity stature has the potential to carry significant influence even relating to political issues. The popular actor has a celebratory day designated in his honor where August 25th serves as the official Sean Connery Day.

  • Sean Connery Dreams Of Independent Scotland

Actor Sean Connery has never been shy about his feelings when it comes to his beloved Scotland. The 83-year-old movie star believes that it is past time for Scotland to become an independent nation, to free itself at long last from the United Kingdom.

Connery is a long-time supporter of the Scottish National Party and is currently campaigning for his fellow Scots to vote “yes” to independence in September.

He has not been to Scotland in more than a decade, declaring in 2003 that he would not set foot in the country again until it was an independent nation. Since then, the “007” actor has spent his time traveling the globe, living in locations ranging from Spain to New York.

Said Connery, “I fully respect the choice facing Scotland in September is a matter for the people who choose to work and live there. That’s only right.”

Even though Connery does not count himself among that number, his heart remains with Scotland and he believes that Scots should realize what a tremendous opportunity independence could bring. Connery called the chance presented in the fall, “too good to miss”.

“A ‘yes’ vote will capture the world’s attention. There will be a renewed focus on our culture and politics, giving us an unparalleled opportunity to promote our heritage and creative excellence.”

Despite Sean Connery’s strong sentiment, the Scottish National Party and its supporters apparently face an uphill battle when it comes to the upcoming referendum.

In a recent YouGov poll, 53% of persons asked preferred to remain a part of the United Kingdom rather than seek independence. Only 35% of those who wanted to break away.

Does this mean that most Scots are content with how things are? Not necessarily. This poll didn’t include all Scots nor is it indicative of the true sentiments of everyone participating in the referendum.

While it may represent a tough battle for those who support an independent Scotland, continuous discussion and debate will no doubt shed light on the issue. It should get citizens to think more carefully about where their true feelings lie: With the United Kingdom or with a free and independent Scotland.
