  • Tina Fey’s Hilarious “Girls” Spoof Is Spot-On

Tina Fey was back on SNL over the weekend, and one of the sketches–a spoof of HBO’s Lena Dunham-led hit “Girls”–was so spot on in its portrayal of the main characters that Fey’s addition, Blerta, was just icing on an already hilarious cake.

The show, which focuses on Lena Dunham’s somewhat self-obsessed character Hannah, tells the story of twenty-somethings living in the city while trying to figure out what and who they want to be. Not exactly a new story, but the characters and the funny/odd situations they get themselves into has garnered a lot of attention from viewers who enjoy the snappy writing and quirky tales. For people of a certain age, however, the show is an enigma; while those of us over 30 may enjoy the stories, many of us can’t relate at all to Hannah or her friends and the first-world problems they face. That’s where Tina Fey steps in, as an Albanian transplant named Blerta. Check out her hilarious, confused character below.

  • “Breaking Bad” Dominates “SNL” Premiere

    “Breaking Bad” Dominates “SNL” Premiere

“Breaking Bad” is absolutely everywhere these days, and “Saturday Night Live” is no exception. The “Breaking Bad” series finale expectation dominated the season premiere. Early on, Jesse Pinkman, also known to his friends as Aaron Paul, stopped in to help Jay Pharaoh’s President Obama sell Obamacare.

Jesse stepped in to help the president after a series of regular Americans lamented about the pitfall’s of the president’s health care plan, including a dad (Bobby Moynihan) and his deadbeat son (rookie cast member Beck Bennett) who doesn’t have a job but remains on his dad’s health care plan thanks to the fact that he was not over 26.

    http://www.hulu.com/watch/539029

“If I’m such a bum, how come I have health care?” he asked.

Pinkman and the “SNL” cast reprised a long-standing internet meme that says Walter White, the mild-mannered school teacher and “Breaking Bad” protagonist, would not have had to resort to making and selling meth and killing people to pay for his cancer treatments, if only he had health insurance that provided the coverage available through the Obamacare exchanges.

“I had this friend and he got sick. Like, cancer cancer sick. But because there wasn’t Obamcare, he couldn’t afford treatments. So he was like, backed into a corner,” said “Jesse from New Mexico.”

“And keep in mind – this man was a teacher with a family,” Obama added.

“So, he did what any of us would have done. He started cooking meth. And soon it wasn’t just meth. It was murder. And not regular murder. Like, he blew half a guy’s face off.”

Here, the president stepped in to stop the impending carnage, then Pinkman asked if anyone wanted to know what happened to his friend. The entire crowd shouted “No!” in unison, echoing the millions of “Breaking Bad” viewers trying to aviod spoilers. And of course there was the equally hilarious “SNL” requisite commercial break:

  • Phil Hartman Celebrated On 65th Birthday

Phil Hartman was one of the most beloved comedians of our time. He won our hearts portraying a randy Bill Clinton on “Saturday Night Live” and a sarcastic but lovable grouch on NewsRadio; his unmistakable voice made us laugh from the moment one of his characters appeared on “The Simpsons”. Hartman was shot and killed by his wife Brynn in 1998 during a marital dispute, but today, on what would have been his 65th birthday, fans and friends remember the man who gave us so much during his short time on this Earth.

Hartman died 15 years ago this past May; his old friend Jon Lovitz took to Twitter on the anniversary to remember his “big brother”.

  • SNL Cast Newcomers are Revealed

Saturday Night Live will begin with a bang on September 28th with Tina Fey as host and Arcade Fire as musical guests. But the late night favorite just got more interesting with a whopping 6 new cast member to replace Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, and Fred Armisen. The 6 Newbies survived the famously torturous SNL auditions and came out on top for SNL’s biggest revamp yet, according to UPI.

Lorne Micheals, the creator of the incredibly long-running show said, “It’s one thing to be on a stage in Chicago or L.A.; it’s another thing to be standing in [‘SNL’ studio] 8H,” he said. “It’s like standing in Yankee Stadium. They can all play baseball, but this is something different. And the weight of all that was just more palpable to me this summer, more than ever before.”

So, just who are these newbies we can expect belly laughs from in the upcoming season?

Beck Bennett is a face you might recognize from AT&T’s “It’s Not Complicated” commercials, in which he poses questions to a table of children.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZh105_r2Qk

Mike O’Brien has been an “SNL” writer since 2009, but Internet comedy fans will know him as the host of his star-studded web series, “7 Minutes in Heaven.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHaiXtr2Gpw

Noel Wells is the only female addition to the cast. You might know her as the popular YouTube impressionist behind the web series “Hey! The Zooey Deschanel Show” and “Manic Pixie Nightmare Girl.”

Also on board are Upright Citizens Brigade performer John Milhiser, stand-up comedian Brooks Wheelan and Good Neighbor troupe member Kyle Mooney.

  • Tina Fey to Host Season 39 SNL Premiere

Fans celebrate as the announcement is made that fan favority and veteran cast member (remember Sarah Palin?), Tina Fey will host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live as the show kicks off it’s 39th season on September 28th. Musical guests will be Arcade Fire. Fans of Arcade Fire will have, I am sure, another awesome performance to look forward to, just like their first in 2007 on Season 32.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE3kXUg8JmI

Next in line will be-you guessed it. America’s ragged, rebellious, uh-sweetheart? Miley Cyrus will host the October 5th show, and also serve as musical guest, hopefully leaving the foam finger backstage. Following Miley, will be Bruce Willis on the 12th.

This will be Fey’s fourth time to host SNL and the first since the airing of 30 Rock’s last episode. Keeping with LONG-standing tradition, the cast will look different this year due to the departure of several cast members. Seth Meyers will stay on through the fall until he starts his new late night gig next year.

  • Hader Leaving SNL When The Season Ends

Bill Hader, known for his impersonations of celebs like Clint Eastwood and Julian Assange, has announced that he’ll be leaving “Saturday Night Live” when this season is over.

Hader is also a popular face in films and has written for “South Park”. He’s also found success doing voice work in films like “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs”. For now, he hasn’t said what his plans are for the immediate future, just that he feels it’s his time to go.

“It was a hard decision, but it has to happen at some point,” Hader said. “It got to a point where I said, ‘Maybe it’s just time to go.’”

Hader will be a big lose for the show, which has struggled to maintain a consistent audience base in recent years following the departure of Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey. Besides his impersonations, he also did original characters like “Stefon” and “Herb Welch”.

  • Zach Galifianakis Plays ‘Game Of Game Of Thrones’ On SNL

Comedian Zach Galifianakis hosted the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live, and a number of the show’s segments are generating a fair amount of buzz on Monday morning.

We already looked at the Google Glass sketch from Weekend Update, in which Fred Armisen played tech blogger Randall Meeks, trying to convince Seth Meyers that the device is cool, and makes life easier. Spoiler alert: it did neither (though the jury’s still out in real life).

Another one of the most-talked about sketches from the episode features Galifianakis on a game show called “Game of Game of Thrones”.

It seems that not a day goes by that the Internet doesn’t produce some type of Game of Thrones parody, so it’s no surprise to see SNL take on the show. Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage actually appeared on Weekend Update a few weeks back.

  • Saturday Night Live Makes Fun Of Google Glass

You know you have a pop culture phenomenon on your hands when you make an appearance on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, as Google’s Glass did over the weekend.

Tech blogger Randall Meeks (played by Fred Armisen) stops by to show off the device. The skit really seems to be poking more fun at Google’s voice recognition technology than anything. He has a quite bit of trouble getting Google to recognize the Wi-Fi password and the word “Italitan.”

At one point, the device starts playing porn sounds, which Meeks has some trouble muting.

This is certainly not the first time the device has been parodied, but now that it’s in people’s hands, the jokes have made quite the comeback.

  • Yahoo Gets 38 Years Of Saturday Night Live

Yahoo announced a deal with Broadway Video to feature SNL content on Yahoo properties. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announced the news herself.
    tw

Mayer added in a blog post:

Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker, or Tina Fey as Sarah Palin? As a lifelong Saturday Night Live fan, it is nearly impossible for me to pick my favorite skit. And, as a fan, I couldn’t be more excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Broadway Video to feature Saturday Night Live content exclusively on Yahoo! The partnership gives Yahoo! users exclusive access to the entire 38-year archive of SNL content as well as clips from the current season. Blues Brothers, the Coneheads, Church Chat, Wayne’s World, Coffee Talk, Pat, the Hanukkah Song – the list of tremendous clips goes on and on. Saturday Night Live has pervaded and defined our culture for decades.

That’s a lot of SNL. I wonder what percentage of that is actually funny.

The content will be available across Yahoo’s properties in an unspecified format. It’s not available yet. The company says it will announce when it is. More details will likely emerge at that point.

  • Kristen Wiig ‘Lost’ After Leaving Saturday Night Live

Many comedians use Saturday Night Live as a jumping off point for a long and successful movie or TV career, but the transition between the two can often be awkward. This week, Kristen Wiig encapsulated that awkwardness, saying she “floundered a bit” after leaving the show.

The comedian told Access Hollywood that she “felt a little lost” after her seven-year stint on the show was over. She related that the demanding six-day work week and the fact that cast members “live and breathe the show” made it difficult to adjust to a new life.

Now, however, Wiig has found her footing. The star is currently set to star in movies such as Anchorman: The Legend Continues and The Skeleton Twins. She will also be providing voice work for the animated films Despicable Me 2 and How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Wiig first appeared on Saturday Night Live in 2005. During her time with the show, she was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Her final episode of SNL ended with host Mick Jagger kicking off a rendition of the Rolling Stones song “Ruby Tuesday,” which plays while current and former cast members dance with Wiig in turn.

  • Bieber Apology On SNL Addresses Weed Bust

Bieber Apology On SNL Addresses Weed Bust

Justin Bieber was the host of “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend, and like any good host, he didn’t pull any punches when it came time to make fun of himself.

The 18-year old appeared in full nerd-gear in a sketch called “The Miley Cyrus Show”–where he was head of her fan club–and addressed some of the more negative things that have been said about him while in character.

“He looks like a lesbian… I heard he still has his baby teeth,” he said during the sketch, in which he expressed disbelief that Miley Cyrus was friends with that “douche” Justin Bieber.

He also took a moment to address the controversy surrounding those photos of him that turned up last month which allegedly show him smoking pot at a party.

“I also heard he got busted for smoking weed and he’s really sorry about it and people make mistakes and he’s never gonna do it again,” his character said.

Bieber has had a rough few months after a breakup with longtime girlfriend Selena Gomez and the death of a photographer who was killed while crossing a busy highway while trying to snap a shot of Bieber’s car. The singer wasn’t in the vehicle at the time.

  • Steven Tyler Unimpressed with Mick Jagger’s SNL Impersonation

Steven Tyler is probably used to people making fun of him at this point in his life. Lots of folks have impersonated the Aerosmith singer over the years, so I’m sure he’s developed a thick skin when dealing with those who enjoy having a jolly good laugh at his expense. However, Tyler was slightly unimpressed with Mick Jagger’s portrayal of the “American Idol” judge on last weekend’s season finale of “Saturday Night Live”.

During the skit “So You Think You Can Dance at an Outdoor Music Festival”, Jagger donned a wig and a colorful scarf for his impersonation of the accomplisher rocker, which many, myself included, thought was fairly hilarious. For Saturday Night Live, anyway. Tyler, on the other hand, didn’t think too highly of the bit.

“They got it so wrong; He could have done the yeah yeah yeah!,” Tyler explained to Hollywood Life. He also added, “I thought he looked good with long hair, I’ve always wanted him to grow it back.” That, my friends, is what you call a “kiss and kick”.

However, despite his criticisms of the Rolling Stone singer’s performance, Tyler admitted that the sketch was “fun”. I’m not sure if that’s a code word for something else, but we’ll give the singer the benefit of the doubt. Besides, given how many times people have made fun of Mick Jagger over the years, it seems only fair that he’s able to return the favor in one way or another.

For extra fun, have a look at what a few people on Twitter think of Steven Tyler. Although the comments are more than a little harsh, they’re kind of funny nonetheless.

  • 37 Years Of SNL In One Infographic, We Miss You Phil Hartman!

37 seasons of Saturday Night Live; it’s hard to imagine a show could stay successful for so long, while never fundamentally changing its structure. Sure, they’ve thrown a few loops here and there, but SNL has always been just about the same since its inception. From the original episode with George Carlin, to the Betty White hosted episode that was fueled by a Facebook campaign.

This infographic will give readers my age a fond remembrance of Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell, which hopefully leads to your reenacting of ‘da Bears’ and ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ scenes. While the parents of those readers will scoff at the 90’s and tell you how Chevy Chase, Aykroyd, Murray, and Belushi killed it back in the 70’s.

No matter the generation, you’ll be amazed by just how many people have starred in the show, and just how many of them you won’t recognize. I also learned Robert Downey Jr. had a short stint on SNL as well.

    Enjoy.

  • Steven Spielberg Makes a Cameo in SNL Laser Cats Skit

If you’ve watched Saturday Night Live over the past few years, chances are you’re already painfully familiar with the program’s Digital Shorts, a series of short films created by Lonely Island masterminds Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer and Andy Samberg. The segments were instrumental in helping SNL retain its hold on the public consciousness during a period when the program was starting to lose its footing.

Although the previously-aired “Laser Cats” skits were amusing in their own right, none of them featured acclaimed director Steven Spielberg in a surprisingly hilarious self-aware cameo. The shorts, a parody of low-budget sci-fi motion pictures involving felines who possess the ability to fire lasers from their mouths, are simply okay at-best, though none of the previous entries featured the aforementioned filmmaker pitching an idea for his own “Laser Cats” movie.

In true Saturday Night Live fashion, the segment showcases parodies of several Spielberg movies, including such notable efforts as “E.T.”, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, and “Jurassic Park”, as well as other easily recognizable productions spearheaded by the award-winning filmmaker.

The clip opens with Bill Hader and Andy Samberg attempting to convince SNL creator Lorne Michaels that the time is right for another “Laser Cats” segment. When he balks at the idea, Spielberg promptly enters the scene, resulting in the clip you see embedded below. Unfortunately, individuals attempting to view the video outside of the US may have considerable trouble doing so, as the clip is hosted by Hulu and NBC.

  • Anna Faris Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight!

Anna Faris is hosting Saturday Night Live tonight. Unfortunately it is a repeat, but still worth watching. The musical guest is Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan Drake. Drake is a personal friend of Kentucky coach John Calipari so look for a possible “Go Cats” reference in tonights performance.

This repeat performance is from her Saturday Night Live appearance on October 15, 2011. Here’s SNL’s official video promo for the broadcast on NBC:

Anna Faris most recently appeared in the movie “What’s Your Number?” in 2011. That is if you don’t include her voice appearance in the movie “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” which came out this past December. “What’s Your Number” did fairly miserable at the box office grossing a total of just $14,008,193 in the U.S. Considering marketing and production costs it lost money.

Per Twitter, fans had a mixed reaction to this movie but seemed to love Anna, except for the guy in the first tweet who thinks Anna is hideous. Most others disagreed!:
