  • “Santa Clause” Star Eric Lloyd On Making The Holiday Film Staple And Getting Recognized Decades Later

Santa Clause is coming to town, which is great for everyone, but brings back a lot of special memories for Eric Lloyd.

Lloyd was the child star featured in the 1994 classic, The Santa Clause, opposite Tim Allen.

Allen was Lloyd’s somewhat deadbeat father who accidentally kills Santa Clause and has to deliver all of the toys for him.

Lloyd, who played Charlie Calvin, gets to go along with his dad to the North Pole, see the elves and ride in the sleigh.

These days, Lloyd is 29-year-old co-owner of LP Studios in Los Angeles. But, he still gets recognized on the street for his role in The Santa Clause.

He said, “People will say, ‘Did I go to high school with you, or something?’ and I’ll say, ‘I don’t know, maybe!’”

He continued, “It’s one of those films that when anyone that does recognize me it’s because they really enjoyed the film. It’s those people that watch it every year and are true fans of it.”

Eric Lloyd also recalled what it was like on the set of The Santa Clause, especially the North Pole and his elf co-stars.

He recalled the North Pole, saying, “It was awesome. It was so much fun. What was very cool was they did have classic Santa toys like wooden trains, animatronic arms, a giant Eiffel Tower erector set, Legos.”

He added, “I thought Santa was real for years after the movie, too. I kind of rationalized that we were doing a documentary about Santa Clause.”

Lloyd also talked about what it was like to fly with the elves. He said, “It was probably one of my favorite parts.”

He then said, “I wish I was more like me now, back then. I was a little timid, but it was pretty much special effects. They would just put us on wires in front of the green screen and let us fly. The E.L.F.S. squad were stunt kids, so they were used to it.”

So much fun! Is The Santa Clause part of your annual Christmas movie lineup?

  • Layaway Santa Spends $21K On Strangers

Layaway Santa Spends $21K On Strangers

Layaway Santas have been saving Christmas for many families for years and the concept has taken off within the last few years, motivating people all over the world to pay off layaway accounts for strangers. Last year, Kmart stores across the country reported that hundreds of layaway accounts that were past due and about to be deactivated, were paid off by strangers.

These layaway Santas would either come into the store and make an anonymous payment on one or more layaways or catch random people in the layaway line and pay their layaway off for them. Many people who were on the receiving end of these good deeds said that they would not have been able to pay off their layaway in time for the holidays if it had not been for the layaway Santas.

This year, layaway Santas are at it again, saving Christmas for even more families. One layaway Santa in Florida spent over $21,000 paying off layaway balances for strangers he met in the line that day.

Greg Parady was shopping at a Walmart in Florida when he overheard several people talking about not being able to afford their layaway payments and having to cancel them. Parady said that he decided he would help out by paying off as many layaway balances as he could.

He said he started with the people who were in the layaway line and as they would checkout he would swipe his card to pay the balance. Parady said that many people couldn’t believe what was happening and that several were in tears. Parady’s bank also couldn’t believe it and started to decline payments at one point. Luckily, Parady was able to contact the bank and fix the problem.

As news of the Florida Layaway Santa began to spread, many other people began to payoff layaway balances in stores across the country. According to Parady, this is exactly what he hoped would happen.

“I didn’t intend for the attention but I hope it motivates other people,” said Parady. “I hope everyone will use it as a tool to give in their own way. It doesn’t have to be money, it can be time, or just something kind.”

  • Elf On The Shelf Birthday Tradition

Elf On The Shelf Birthday Tradition

For all of you that participate in the “Elf on the Shelf” tradition…how many times have you forgotten to move that pesky elf before your kids woke up in the morning? For me, it’s a daily challenge to remember to help my elf get into mischief.

Creator and author of the popular “Elf on the Shelf”, Carol V. Aebersold, gives parents a tip on how they can remember to help their elves get back to the North Pole and back before it is time for their kids to discover him again. It’s simple really, just use post it notes.

“I tell parents to put a blank sticky note on the bathroom mirror every night so that they can remember to check whether their elf has flown back to the North Pole,” says Aebersold.

Aebersold released a new book back in October called, “The Birthday Tradition”, which is where Santa will allow the child’s elf come back for one special day each year: their birthday.

“What other more special family tradition is there than your own special holiday, your birthday,” says Aebersold. “We heard so many requests from kids saying ‘Can my elf come back?’ that we decided to talk to Santa, and he said, ‘This is how we celebrate birthdays at the North Pole, and kids might want to do it, too.” Aebersold says she has gotten a great response from the new book, with thousands of kids writing letters to Santa to have him send their elf back for their birthdays.

“Elf on the Shelf” was more than just a creative idea Aebersold thought up. It was a tradition that her family started years ago, and once she had kids of her own, she decided to write a book to share their tradition.

“It was a tradition we had in my family; you adopt your elf for a lifetime. So when I got married, he came with me and my children grew up with my elf. When they grew up they told me what a wonderful family tradition that was and said ‘Mom, we should write a book and share it with the world,’” she said.
