  • Miss Universe Contestants Bare It All–Well, Sort Of

Miss Universe contestants, vying for Sunday night’s crowning moment, took to social media in the past few days in bare form. No, the Miss Universe ladies didn’t pose nude, but they left their faces nude. The girls posted selfies that are makeup free.

It was the reigning Miss Universe, Colombia’s Paulina Vega, who issued the challenge to this year’s Miss Universe contestants. She told the girls to use the hashtag #ConfidentlyBeautiful in their posts.

The Miss Universe contestants responded with excitement.

The Miss Universe contestants are following in some very popular celebrities’ footsteps when posting these makeup-free selfies. In recent months both Demi Lovato and Cindy Crawford have done the same thing. Salma Hayek and Cameron Diaz posted theirs as well.

Will you be tuning in to Sunday night’s Miss Universe Pageant? Steve Harvey is hosting, and Perez Hilton, Niecy Nash, Olivia Culpo, and Emmitt Smith comprise the judging panel.

This will be the first broadcast of the Miss Universe Pageant since WME-IMG acquired the The Miss Universe Organization from Donald Trump in September, following his disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants earlier in his campaign. Fans can even take part in the voting process.

The Miss Universe Pageant starts at 7 p.m. ET.

  • Salma Hayek Praises Daughter for Generous Spirit

Salma Hayek has reason to be very proud of her daughter Valentina, as she is thinking about others in need this holiday season.

Valentina is currently growing out her locks – in order to cut them off and donate them to children with cancer.

“My daughter valentina is growing her beautiful mane so she can cut it and donate it to make a wig for children with cancer. Now that is the spirit of christmas,” the actress wrote on Instagram.

    Check it out:

Hayek recently gave some advice to young girls at the Variety Power of Women event.

“The most important thing to say to the girls is to not try to be like the other girls. Not to try to fit in, but to try to really be profound thinkers that are excited about their differences and explore what they are and who they are and what can come out of the new,” she said.

“I think the voice of women can change the world, but we don’t know our voice,” she said. “We’ve never really investigated. We’ve been too busy for many, many decades and generations, trying to operate within systems that were designed by men … I don’t think we really have tapped into our potential or our own creativity.”

Salma Hayek Wows In Skintight Dress At ELLE Women In Hollywood Event

Latina movie star Salma Hayek proved once again that she still got what it takes to stun a crowd.

After gracing the cover of Elle Magazine’s November issue, Hayek went on to attend the 22nd Annual Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, which was held at the Beverly Hills Four Seasons.

The much-anticipated event, which features some of the biggest names in Hollywood, was created to celebrate women who are influencing the world’s most well-known entertainment industry.

Hayek was joined by other prominent female figures like Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Carey Mulligan, Zoë Saldana, and Amy Schumer to name a few.

Before giving her speech, Hayek was introduced by fellow Latina Zoë Saldana. The 49-year-old star, whose career in Hollywood was jump-started by her early roles in the 1995 film Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn in 1996.

Hayek’s speech appealed for diversity and equality in Hollywood and declared that the current generation of women have the ability to make huge changes in the industry.

In her gorgeous Elle spread, Hayek donned a sexy black strapless dress by Stella McCartney complemented by smoky eye make-up and a wet-look hairstyle.

At the Women in Hollywood event, however, Hayek went for an edgier look with a shiny, metallic number by Yves Saint Laurent. The dress did wonders to her already fabulous figure, and was complemented by dramatic eyes and a bright red lip.

Aside from being a celebrated actress, Hayek has also been successful as a businesswoman. In 2000, she put up her own production company called Ventanarosa, through which she produced films like Frida, In the Time of the Butterflies, and The Maldonado Miracle, as well as the hit TV series Ugly Betty.

Hayek’s Frida co-star Alfred Molina commended her acting and business savvy. He also compared her to Miramax co-founder Harvey Weinstein, saying that she would have been bigger than Weinstein had she been “white and male.”

  • Salma Hayek Says Romantic Comedies Aren’t Working Anymore for Women

Salma Hayek Says Romantic Comedies Aren’t Working Anymore for Women

Salma Hayek is solidifying her place on the future Mount Rushmore of Women in Hollywood who fought for equality. The actress has become such a staunch voice on the topic of gender equality, particularly in the film business, that she is frequently mentioned in the same breath as Meryl Streep, and usually followed closely by Amy Schumer.

Elle Magazine hosted the “Women in Hollywood” event on Monday. Big names at the event included Hayek, Streep, and Schumer, as well as Ava DuVernay, Carey Mulligan, Gena Rowlands, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet and Dakota Johnson.

Salma Hayek told the attendees about her struggle to get work around the Hollywood boys’ club when she was trying to make the film Frida.

“I was told, ‘There are no leading parts for Mexicans in this town and especially for Mexican women.’ And they were right,” said Hayek.

Of course, Hayek did manage to get Frida to screen. It took eight years, but in the end she was nominated for six Oscars thanks to that film.

Salma Hayek also is passionate about opposing the ridiculous notion that women in Hollywood have some expiration date stamped on them, beyond which they are not useful.

“It takes a generation of women that will not accept a reality that is f—ed up and unfair to get angry and take adversity and transform it into power, to make a change,” Hayek said. “We are the generation that said, ‘We’re not going away at 30. They cannot ignore us anymore.”

Hayek noted that things are starting to change, thanks to the women in that room. No longer are women in Hollywood being mainly relegated to doing romantic comedies and propping up male leads.

“In the 20 years I have been an activist for women. I can smell the airs of change. Especially in this industry for the first time.” Hayek said. “These romantic comedies are not working anymore. Why? We changed!”

Alfred Molina, who costarred with Salma Hayek in Frida, told Elle Magazine of his friend, “I’ve said that if Salma had been white and male, she would have been bigger than Harvey Weinstein. I still believe that. Salma is a great businesswoman; she’s creative in a way that takes people by surprise.”

Hayek herself followed that up by saying, “I ended up producing because I did not like myself complaining, complaining, complaining about the system. I said to myself, ‘You know what? I’m not going to whine about anything that I didn’t make any effort to change.’ ”

  • Salma Hayek Offers Words Of Wisdom to Young Women — ‘Be Unique and Don’t Blend In’

Salma Hayek has some very important advice for young girls — which most certainly includes her eight-year-old daughter, Valentina — to stand out and not blend in.

“I think the voice of women can change the world, but we don’t know our voice,” Hayek told reporters Friday at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon in Beverly Hill, California. “I think the most important thing to tell for the new generations is to have the courage to be unique, to be curious about who they are, instead of trying to blend in.”

The 49-year-old actress went on to encourage girls to be unique and find their strengths.

“The most important thing to say to the girls is to not try to be like the other girls,” said Hayek. “Not to try to fit in, but to try to really be profound thinkers that are excited about their differences and explore what they are and who they are and what can come out of the new.”

Hayek was honored at the luncheon for her work with the Chime for Change charity.

“I think the voice of women can change the world, but we don’t know our voice,” she said. “We’ve never really investigated. We’ve been too busy for many, many decades and generations, trying to operate within systems that were designed by men.

“I don’t think we really have tapped into our potential or our own creativity.”

In her acceptance speech at the luncheon, Hayek praised the accomplishments of Chime for Change, which is a social media-based campaign to raise awareness of women’s issues around the globe.

“In only two years – now I’m going to brag a little bit – we have directly benefitted the lives of 400,000 women,” she said. “We affected 3 million families and communities in two years.”

Like many other actresses of late, Hayek pointed out the discrepancy in pay for men and women.

“Women represent 50 percent of the population of the world, but even with all of the lack of opportunities, education and all the limitations that come our way, we are 66 percent of the work power of the world,” she said in her speech. “However, we only get 10 percent of the income of the world.

“[But] I’m feeling very confident that we are the generation that is going to experience the difference, the transformation … We are such an economical power, women, in the country, and we represent such a strong part of the audience that they cannot ignore us anymore.”

What do you think of Salma Hayek’s advice? Wise words?

  • Salma Hayek Says Women Don’t Know Their Voice, Actress Gives Girls Profound Advice

To show her support for female empowerment, Salma Hayek stated that she believes that the mindset of a strong woman should start early among the young generation. Hayek said that girls should start feeling confident and strive to be unique.

“I think the most important thing to tell for the new generations is to have the courage to be unique, to be curious about who they are, instead of trying to blend in,” said Hayek. “The most important thing to say to the girls is to not try to be like the other girls.” Hayek said that women have been busy trying to fit in the role assigned by the society that is mainly designed by men. She also said that girls of this generation try so hard to fit in.

“Try to really be profound thinkers that are excited about their differences and explore what they are and who they are and what can come out of the new,” Hayek said.

“I think the voice of women can change the world, but we don’t know our voice. I don’t think we really have tapped into our potential or our own creativity,” Hayek added.

Hayek supports Chime for Change, a nonprofit that seeks to provide education, health, and justice programs for girls and women around the world and she proudly talked about the organization’s accomplishments.

“In only two years – now I’m going to brag a little bit – we have directly benefitted the lives of 400,000 women,” Hayek said. “We affected 3 million families and communities in two years.”

She believes that starting with this generation, we can start to see changes on how women are viewed as well as their roles in different industries.

“I’m feeling very confident that we are the generation that is going to experience the difference, the transformation… We are such an economical power, women, in the country, and we represent such a strong part of the audience that they cannot ignore us anymore.”

  • Salma Hayek Says We Are Doing Our Girls A Disservice With Bad Advice

Salma Hayek gave an impassioned speech at the recent Power Of Women luncheon, which was hosted by Vanity Fair and honored the actress for her work with the women’s rights organization Chime For Change. In it, she spoke about the ways we are sending the young girls in our country the absolute wrong message about themselves, and said that women still need to work to find their voices.

“The most important thing to say to the girls is to not try to be like the other girls. Not to try to fit in, but to try to really be profound thinkers that are excited about their differences and explore what they are and who they are and what can come out of the new,” Hayek said.

Hayek, who has portrayed her share of badass women in film, says it’s time women stand up and taken control of things that have long been dominated by men.

“I think the voice of women can change the world, but we don’t know our voice. We’ve never really investigated. We’ve been too busy for many, many decades and generations, trying to operate within systems that were designed by men. I don’t think we really have tapped into our potential or our own creativity.”

Hayek–along with many other women in the business–also spoke outside the event about the pay gap, calling it “criminal”. Recently, actresses like Emma Watson and Gwyneth Paltrow have spoken out about the problem Hollywood has with its leading ladies, noting that sexual harassment and a huge wage gap between genders is only the beginning.

“This is a problem that is in every single industry. If you have the same capacities and you are doing the same job, it is criminal not to pay the same salary,” Salma said.

Gwyneth Paltrow agrees with Salma Hayek, saying last week that knowing that men are being paid more for doing the exact same thing is an attack on one’s self-worth.

“Your salary is a way to quantify what you’re worth. If men are being paid a lot more for doing the same thing, it feels s**tty,” Paltrow said.

  • Salma Hayek Gives Powerful Speech on Gender Equality

Salma Hayek Gives Powerful Speech on Gender Equality

Salma Hayek isn’t just a big name on the big screen. The actress is a big name in the fight for gender equality, too. On Friday Hayek addressed Variety’s Power of Women luncheon in Los Angeles, calling those who don’t pay men and women equally criminals.

“This is a problem that is in every single industry,” Salma Hayek told the press on the red carpet at the luncheon. “If you have the same capacities and you are doing the same job, it is criminal not to pay the same salary.”

Honored for her work with the Chime for Change women’s empowerment project, Hayek shared some astounding statistics. Jada Pinkett Smith introduced Salma Hayek to a cheering crowd.

“We are a fantastic generation. We are the generation who said, ‘Oh no, we’re not going away at 30. This is gonna change. I’m not going to work there anymore? OK, I’m going to start my own industry,’” Hayek said.

“We are 66 percent of the work power of the world. However, we only get 10 percent of the income of the world. This is really, really sad and tragic,” she added.

Following more than 20 years as a gender equality advocate, Salma Hayek just now believes change is about to take place.

“We have been complaining about the situation of women in this industry for years,” she said. “I remember many people in Oscar speeches [mentioned] it, but just this year, with the very eloquent speech of Patricia Arquette, finally they heard it! They actually ask you about it! We are talking about it, we are looking for solutions. We are the generation that is going to experience the difference, the transformation.”

“I think the reason is not because they’re very nice and they heard us, but because they cannot not hear us because we are such an economical power, women in the country. We represent such a strong part of the audience that they cannot ignore us anymore,” she said.

Explaining how women in both the film industry as well as in everyday situations have been forced into roles set by men, Salma Hayek said there is much confusion about gender equality.

“It’s confusing because we’ve been neglected for so long that we really don’t know what women want to see,” she said. “We don’t even recognize our voice anymore because our voices we’ve had to adjust to a system that was created by men so that they could survive. So that things could get made. It’s a really inspiring time, because it’s time for us to take this responsibility and try to find out who we really are.”

She added that the stereotypical Hollywood roles for women in rom-coms and chick flicks is coming to an end.

“We’re not the women [who] just wanna see the movie about how our prince is going to come and rescue us anymore. These romantic comedies are not working anymore, why? We changed! But nobody took the time to change with us in the industry,” she said. “So it’s a really exciting time to redefine who we are. This is the true heart of equality–not only when we can make as much, but we can speak as loud and we can really have the freedom to be ourselves instead of trying to survive or fit in,” she said.

Salma Hayek is a successor in a long line of people who have spoken out against gender inequality. Shonda Rhimes, Reese Witherspoon, Emma Watson, Oprah Winfrey, Matt McGorry, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Garner, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Geena Davis, and Meryl Streep are huge advocates, too.

Do you believe the end of gender inequality is truly imminent? Kudos to people like Salma Hayek and her predecessors for their tireless work in not just raising awareness but in advocating change.

  • Charlize Theron: Stalker Brings Flowers to Her Home, Police Arrest Him

Charlize Theron received flowers Sunday afternoon–but everything wasn’t coming up roses.

It seems a stalker longed to see Charlize Theron face to face, so he posed as a flower delivery person and showed up at her Hollywood Hills home.

The “delivery person” rang the buzzer at Theron’s front gate and told her she had a floral delivery.

“Just leave them,” Charlize told him, but the man refused to leave.

Charlize Theron called the police, and the flower delivery man was soon arrested for stalking.

Stalking is a very real crime and celebrities are often targeted. While some stalkers aren’t violent, that certainly can’t be the assumption.

In addition to Charlize Theron, Salma Hayek, Sandra Bullock, Miranda Cosgrove, Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus have all been the victims of stalkers. Selena Gomez’s stalker was charged with a felony for his crime.

“The relentless neurotic nature of the stalker can take the form of harassing their targets, calling them repeatedly, as well as sending letters and gifts. If these are ineffective, the individual may escalate to more intrusive behaviors such as spying on, and unexpectedly confronting their victims. Research tends to focus on how violating it is to bear the brunt of stalkers’ obsessions, but there is little to explain what exactly motivates the stalker, and further, how to therapeutically treat these offenders,” Psychology Today reports.

Charlize Theron’s stalker didn’t cause her or her children any harm. Not everyone is that fortunate.

Hopefully once the man is released he doesn’t bother Charlize Theron or anyone else again.

  • Salma Hayek Is a ‘Woman Of Power,’ Actress Speaks To Crowd Of 60,000 People In New York City

Aside from their busy schedules that involve shooting films, appearing in advertisments, and attending awarding ceremonies, a lot of famous stars are also spending their time supporting good causes.

One of these stars is Salma Hayek, who hosted the Global Citizens Festival last Saturday in New York.

Hayek, together with co-hosts, Stephen Colbert and Hugh Jackman, encouraged the 60,000 attendees to be aware that the goal for this year’s Global Citizens is to end poverty by 2030. This humanitarian event did not stop the stars who were in attendance from looking their best. Hayek’s look combined edgy and feminine with her white flowing voile top accentuated by a poufy red flower choker, skintight leather pants, wide belt, and a black leather jacket. “This is me just before facing 60k people at the #GlobalCitizen festival who are really waiting for Beyonce,” Hayek shared her photo in Instagram.

Hayek also met her friends, Susan Sarandon and Kerry Washington, backstage. She also shared a photo of her and Washington.

“Hanging backstage with my beautiful sister,” Hayek captioned.

  • Salma Hayek: I Used To Get Guests Drunk At Dinner Parties

Salma Hayek has made more headline in the past year than she did in the first 10 years of her acting career. The Mexican-American actress has spoken out about Donald Trump, sexism in Hollywood, and activism.

In the middle of all this, Hayek was given the “Decade of Hotness Award” by Spike this year.

Salma Hayek commented about the award.

“When you start you’re like, ‘No, I want them to see me for my talent, and know me as an actress,’” Salma Hayek told reporters at the awards ceremony.

She recalled finding out that she was considered a “bombshell” after the film Desperado was released.

“My English was worse than now and I read the reviews that, ‘Salma Hayek was a bombshell,’ and to me this means that I was terrible, that I had bombed!” Hayek said. “Everyone told me, ‘No, no, it means that you’re great, that you’re sexy!’ And [I was like], ‘That’s it? They didn’t talk about my acting?”

Recently, Harper’s Bazaar asked Hayek a few personal questions about her downtime and how she has fun. They wanted to know her secret to a great dinner party?

“I don’t do this anymore,” Hayek replied, “but when I was young and insecure about my cooking, I had a great trick: I would always start the meal with tequila soup, which is made the chicken broth and a touch of tequila and lime. And then everyone would get a little tipsy, so if I messed up the rest of the dinner, they wouldn’t care and wouldn’t remember anyway!”

Hayek also recently made headlines when she got a restraining order against two women she said were threatening her and her daughter, Valantina.

“This case arises out of a bizarre pattern of behavior by two apparently mentally disturbed individuals,” Hayek said in her filing for the order. “Their actions include, among others, concocting ruses to meet Hayek’s family members to obtain Hayek’s contact information, impersonating Hayek to another celebrity, attempting to directly contact Hayek herself, and impersonating Hayek in contacting Hayek’s minor child.

“In one communication while posing as Hayek, [one of the women] made a veiled threat regarding kidnapping and ransoming Hayek’s minor child.”

  • Salma Hayek Will Eat Almost Anything, Even Worms [Video]

Actress, Salma Hayek has an odd taste for food and this was proven when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday.

The Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen challenged the Oscar-nominated actress to sample some foods they prepared. In the game “Will Salma Eat It?” the host first offered Salma deep-fried frog.

“Deep-fried frog or frog legs?” she asked. “What you’re supposed to eat is the frog legs.”

She revealed that there is no problem with eating them because it is a common French food. Salma lives in France with her husband, François-Henri Pinault, a French businessman.

Next, she was given a Jalepeno, which the star willingly ate. The Mexican-born actress said she can eat almost anything but onions.

The game became more challenging when the host offered Salma stir-fried silkworms. The actress ate the silkworms without a second thought. The exotic food might be gross-looking for some people but Salma quickly told the the viewers, “These are Mexican.”

As the game was about to end, the host offered yet another dish- gefilte fish- to which Salma commented that she would rather eat the worms.

When asked about how she maintained her fit body after giving birth, she revealed that she is strict with her diet.

According to her, she does not starve herself even when on a diet. The key is to eat healthy foods. A word of advice from her:  “It’s always great to breast feed,” Salma said. “Don’t worry about it while you breast feed, but after you stop – eat less, exercise.”

Salma Hayek proved that she is worthy of the title “Champion” when it comes to chomping down exotic foods.

  • Salma Hayek Married a Billionaire, But Handles Her Own Expenses

Salma Hayek can’t say enough about her husband, Francois Pinault. In 2013, Forbes reported that Pinault and his family had a net worth of $15 billion. But that is not what Hayek is so crazy about. In fact, she distances herself from that in some ways.

“I have a system in my life that I’ve chosen,” Salma Hayek told Allure, “where my expenses from before the marriage are my expenses.”

This includes properties she bought and charitable endeavors she launched.

“Maybe that’s also part of what works right in my marriage. I still have my independence. But he likes it. I have my problems, and I don’t have to dump them on him. I take care of them on my own. And I get a lot of respect from him. Always take care of yourself.”

If it is not the money that draws Salma Hayek, then what is it? Hayek draws a comparison between her marriage now and the relationships she had in the past.

“I wish I knew when I was younger that I was going to fall crazy in love with the perfect man,” Hayek says. “I was so worried, and I dated some people I shouldn’t have dated. You get desperate, and you start seeing wonderful things in, like, the wrong guys. I also found some pretty good guys. But I wish I could say to myself, ‘Hey, chill out. You’re going to get a great husband that’s going to adore you.’ I would have saved myself a lot of personal drama.”

Her connection to Pinault, the father of her daughter, is palpable.

“I always miss him when we’re not together. It’s sort of nice to miss each other a little bit.”

When her daughter was born, Salma Hayek thought about quitting acting. It was Pinault who made her get back up and get back to work.

“I said, ‘I don’t think I want to work anymore.’ And it was François who said, ‘Oh no, you’re going back to work.’ And I said, ‘I don’t want to.’ ‘Well you have to. We are not putting up with some lazy girl in the house. That’s not who I married.’”

It’s not that Pinault was a slave driver. In fact, his reasoning was very sweet.

“And then,” Hayek explains, “he said something so beautiful, ‘I don’t want to be deprived of your work. I want to watch it, too. And the world has not seen the best of you yet. So you cannot stop until some of that is put out.’ So he sort of really pushed me, ‘Get up on your feet and get out there.’ And he was right. It’s important not to lose that part of yourself.”

  • Salma Hayek Says Her 40’s Have Been A “Great Adventure” With No Botox

Salma Hayek is one of Hollywood’s great beauties, and she’ll be the first one to tell you that her age has nothing to do with it.

The 48-year old actress spoke recently about what it’s like for a woman in the business–particularly, for a woman who doesn’t fit the typical Hollywood mold–and said that while the big studios aren’t calling as much, she doesn’t let it bother her.

“I think they don’t want me but I don’t really care,” Hayek said.

As with many actresses, Hayek has felt the mounting pressure from the showbiz world to look young, but for her, age is just a number. Salma says the last decade has been “full of life”, and while there’s an abundance of discrimination against women over 35 in Hollywood, Salma refuses to bow to it.

“No Botox yet, you can see…You don’t look as bad as you thought you were going to look. You don’t feel as old as you thought you were going to feel. It’s a myth. Forties are full of life. The only thing that is tough about the 40s is when you haven’t had a child. This is awful,” Hayek said.

Salma–who was born in Mexico–also spoke recently about discrimination of a different kind, saying she’s faced it so many times throughout her life that it was difficult to choose just one to talk about. In an interview with Huffington Post, Hayek recalled an incident at a movie theater in which a man told her and a friend to “go back to their country”.

“I have a whole book that I could write about these moments, that are very memorable. But I have to say they never really quite hurt me. I was like ‘Woah, you’re dumb, my goodness you are so ignorant.’ I sort of felt sorry for this person for just being so out of touch with the world, with his own humanity.”

  • Salma Hayek Thinks Donald Trump’s Insensitive Comments About Mexicans Are A Good Thing

Salma Hayek is not bothered by Donald Trump’s seemingly anti-Mexican comments. In fact, the comment is almost a good indicator of the kind of politics the US have.

In a statement she made in an interview with Jorge Ramos of Fusion, she said, “The good thing about what Trump did is that [his comments] shone a light to the level of the problem of racism. The minute he attacked the Mexicans, his numbers went up.”

Donald Trump has made negative comments concerning Mexican immigrants. The 48-year-old actress said that Trump is “uninformed” when it comes to such issues. In another interview with Good Morning America dated August 5, Salma shared her opinion, “Immigrants are an important force of work in the United States.” She added, “Anybody who is informed knows this.”

According to her, politicians should stop using these kinds of issues to get people’s attention. Statements like the ones made by Trump might be taken seriously by people.

She admitted in LA Times that she is not insulted by such stupidity. The actress went on to say that everybody is entitled to be dumb, referring to the baseless statement the presidential candidate had made.

Salma Hayek concluded that people should be vigilant so as not to be “manipulated” by words coming from powerful people including politicians, “That is that the educated people or the people with great human values have to wake up, because they are under the illusion that most of this country is like them and sometimes they don’t even go to vote.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s negative statements about undocumented immigrants caused objection from the public. Other Mexican and Latino stars that slammed Trump’s racist comments include Ricky Martin and Shakira to name a few.

  • Salma Hayek Says Hollywood Doesn’t Want Her Anymore And She’s Okay With That

Salma Hayek certainly hasn’t been as much of a red carpet fixture as she was a decade ago.

Times have changed and bigger, younger movie stars have moved in to take Salma Hayek’s place as one of Hollywood’s “it” girls.

Some ageing Hollywood vixens might be upset by that, but Salma Hayek is fine. Don’t worry about her.

The studios aren’t really calling anymore, but Salma Hayek is too busy to notice.

Salma Hayek admitted, “I think they don’t want me but I don’t really care.”

Salma Hayek has a life full of purpose and productivity and one of the projects she has been working on, the animated film adaptation of Kahlil Gibran’s 1923 book of prose poetry, The Prophet, is especially dear to her.

Salma Hayek produced the film and has a voice role in it. She said she was inspired, in part, by her seven-year-old daughter, Valentina.

Salma Hayek gushed about the film, saying, “It’s meaningful. It’s hopeful. It’s uplifting. It’s respectful. It honors children.”

She added, “Many people tell me, ‘But they are not going to like poetry.’ Children love poetry. That’s why we have the nursery rhymes and then we don’t give it to them anymore. It’s their first language. They think in metaphor.”

The book is also special to Salma Hayek because of where she first discovered it.

She said, “I saw the book on the table on the side of the bed of my grandfather, then recently rediscovered it and it was as if he was teaching me, even though he was gone, through the book.”

Salma Hayek also helped produce the film Frida, in which she starred and earned critical acclaim.

The story and animation for The Prophet look amazing.

  • Salma Hayek Talks Prostitutes and Pornography

Salma Hayek may have been seen as a hot body or a long time, but she’s been working for the cause of equality for women for …

“For about 30 years.” Hayek says.

Salma Hayek is happy that so many other actresses are taking up the banner and not letting the issue fade from public sight. But she also insists that the problem of pay disparity is not just about Hollywood.

“It’s not exclusive to the movie industry at all,” Hayek says. “It’s the same in every industry. The only two industries where women get paid more than men are prostitution and pornography. We have to be so good to get noticed in any other way. We have to be three times as good as they are.”

Salma Hayek’s words are echoed by those of Robin Wright, who recently said something very similar.

“It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America,” Wright continued. “It is a man’s world. Most industries are a man’s world. But when you break it down, it’s women [who do the work]. But they don’t necessarily get the credit.”

Hayek also points out that it is not just in the payroll department that Hollywood ignores women, but in writing and deciding what films to promote.

“I’m very hopeful that it’s gonna change really fast, not because Hollywood cares about women but because we represent economically something that they need and that they neglected. Now they’re in trouble because they don’t even know what we want to see.”

While Hollywood knws with certainty that men like big action movies, perhaps comic book films, they are unclear about what to offer women.

“What do we want to see? We’ve been so abandoned by this industry that I don’t think we even know. What is our big, exciting, movie experience? Nobody’s bothered to ask the question.”

  • Salma Hayek: Donald Trump Appeals To Dumb People

Salma Hayek is experiencing somewhat of a resurgence. Not that the star ever went away, but she has found a footing as a voice for causes in addition to her acting work.

Salma Hayek has long been outspoken politically and is a vocal advocate for women’s rights globally. Hayek explains that she was not always so eager to use her fame as a loudspeaker for causes.

“At first I felt I shouldn’t get attention for that work [activism],” Hayek told the LA Times. “I thought I should only get attention for my work as an actress. But now I’m advocating just to say that we can be better than we are. Life is exhausting. Sometimes we fall into the river of life and it just takes us, and we don’t get to look around or swim or stop to drink it. By the time we realize it, we got to the end of it and it’s over. We should take control over it.”

Another cause Hayek supports is the fight against discrimination against immigrants in the United States. Hayek, who was born in Mexico, once revealed that she was an illegal immigrant for a short time. As she struggled to build a career in the U.S., she says she faced an uphill battle because of prejudice.

“I had to endure the worst time of all in terms of racial discrimination in Hollywood when I first started out,” Hayek told V Magazine in Spain. “It was inconceivable to American directors and producers that a Mexican woman could have a lead role.”

Hayek is in a unique position to comment on Donald trump’s incendiary statements about Mexican immigrants. Her take on it? It is a simple maneuver designed to fool dumb people. And it is working.

“It’s a very simple tactic for self-promotion,” Hayek says of Trump’s jingoistic statements. “What’s sad is how easily people are manipulated. I’m not insulted because I cannot be insulted by stupidity. Everybody’s entitled to have uninformed opinions. Everybody’s entitled to be dumb. But I’m not dumb, so I see through the manipulation. We have something to learn from this. That is that the educated people or the people with great human values have to wake up, because they are under the illusion that most of this country is like them and sometimes they don’t even go to vote.”

And, during a the premiere for the new animated movie she produced, Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet, Salma Hayek looked so amazing and rejuvenated.

She then revealed another interesting facial treatment.

She said, “I have many beauty secrets, but tonight, I am lucky because these two Japanese girls are here from Tokyo and they do a massage on the face that pulls you up.”

She added, “It’s like a lift, and they do it all with their hands. No machines, no products, it’s all with their hands. They do something very strange, but it works.”

    “>Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet.

The actress, who also produced the film a lent her voice to one of the characters, brought her seven and a half-year-old daughter to the premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

“It’s actually a grandmother-mother-daughter date night,” Hayek, 48, told People magazine before the screening. “My mom is also here. This film is for everybody.”

Looking beautiful in a Balenciaga dress and Gucci shoes, Hayek showed off her mini-me daughter, who voiced a character in the French version of the film, on the red carpet.

“She’s excited to see [the movie] again and show it to her friends, but she’s also excited because we have a lot of people from the Disney Channel here,” jokes Hayek.

Usually Salma Hayek is very protective of her daughter and tries to keep her out of the spotlight. But, this was a special occasion.

“I never do it,” Hayek said. “But it’s a special occasion. She suffered through Mommy not being around for so long with this one. She’s been a part of it because she had to sacrifice also for this film.”

Salma Hayek said the emotional subject of the film was cathartic for her daughter, who recently lost her grandmother.

“For her, after seeing this movie, she doesn’t see death in the same way. She did a drawing of my grandmother’s tomb. She never met my grandmother. She was sad she was dead,” said Hayek. “Now after seeing the movie, in the drawing, my grandmother was released from the ground and she’s a spirit among us. That’s pretty awesome.”

The duo also took an opportunity to visit Disneyland while in town.

“Saturday we went to Disneyland. It was hot. I was really overworked,” said Salma Hayek. “Once you arrive there, you can not get them out of there. I dragged them out!”
