  • 13 iPhone 5 Rumor Videos You May Have Missed

As you may be aware, there have been a lot of rumors about Apple’s next iPhone. It looks like you’re only a few short weeks away from finally seeing the device, and just a bit longer from being able to actually own one, but the rumors have been non-stop for as long as I can remember at this point.

Many of the rumors come with videos, whether showing off alleged parts, putting together concept designs, or simply poking fun. Following is a collection of the videos that have surfaced over the course of 2012. You may have seen some of them. You may have seen all of them, or maybe you’ve not seen any of them. Either way, here’s 13 videos that iPhone enthusiasts have put together. Enjoy them now, because soon they will all be irrelevant.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: It Will Reportedly Run On Everything Everywhere’s 4G Network

The launch of the next iPhone is getting closer, and more information about the device continues to surface. It just happens to be unconfirmed and speculative information, for the most part.

Today, Pocket-lint is reporting, citing “multiple sources,” that the iPhone 5 wil work on Everything Everywhere’s 4G network in the UK, from launch. The carrier is using an 1800MHz spectrum band for its network, which will launch on September 11.

The device is expected to be unveiled September 12, the next day, with an actual release later in the month.

“Apple has been known to manufacture iPhones with slightly different chipsets for different networks in the US, and while it has no history of doing the same globally (indeed, recent history of NOT doing so, with the new iPad), Ofcom’s decision to license the 1800MHz spectrum band (ahead of the auction of the more widely expected 800MHz and 2600MHz), means Everything Everywhere will be operating the service on the same bandwidth as operators in Australia and several in mainland Europe,” writes Pocket-lint’s Rik Henderson. “And that gives Apple a bigger market for sales of a compatible device.”

Last week, reports came out that two major carriers in Korea were in talks with Apple for 4G iPhone 5 support.

Before that, alleged leaked photos of the device’s motherboard seemed to confirm LTE support.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: LCD Screen Replacement On Sale For $199

It’s pretty much confirmed at this point that the iPhone 5 is going to have a larger screen. All signs are pointing to a screen with a resolution of 1136×640. We won’t know for sure, of course, until the all but confirmed iPhone 5 event on September 12. If only there was a Chinese electronics retailer selling the screen for the iPhone 5 right this very moment.

It turns out that such a retailer exists as 9to5Mac has found that ChinaGadgetLand has LCD screens for the iPhone 5 on sale. Sadly, they all sold out as soon as the news broke. Nobody has any use for them at this point, but come on, it’s the iPhone 5 LCD screen.

Here’s the specs from the Web site which confirms a lot of what we already knew about the new screen:

    Specifications:
Replacement Full Set LCD Screen with Digitizer Assembly for iPhone 5
LCD Screen + Touch Screen + Digitizer + Front Cover Complete set for iPhone 5
iPhone 5 LCD Screen size: 4-inch
    iPhone 5 LCD Screen resolution: 1136 x 640
Suitable for working with iPhone 5
iPhone 5 replacement parts – Full Set LCD Screen with Digitizer Assembly for iPhone 5
Spare parts LCD screen and Touch Screen for iPhone 5
    In bulk package

It’s hard to say whether or not this is a scam. The site does looks legitimate and it wouldn’t be out of the question for a wholesale electronics site to get parts before the actual device is released. It just seems like Apple would try to put a stop to stuff like this. Maybe they’ve just stopped trying to fight the inevitable.

I’m sure those that ordered an LCD panel will get them in over the next few days. From that point, we’ll be able to tell once and for all if the iPhone 5 screen is really going to be four inches of delight or if all the leaks leading up to this moment have been nothing but that – rumors. I’m willing to bet my money on the former.

  • OnLive Reported to Have Laid Off its Entire Staff [Rumor]

    [UPDATE]
Gamasutra is confirming that all OnLive employees have been laid off.

    [ORIGINAL]
Today OnLive, the company that offers cloud-based, streaming gaming, was reported to have fired its entire staff. The company has denied that the OnLive service is shutting down, but confusion continues to swirl about whether employees were let go. Word of the layoffs first came from industry insider Brian Fargo, founder of inXile Entertainment:

Fargo has since provided the text of the email he received:

I wanted to send a note that by the end of the day today, OnLive as an entity will no longer exist. Unfortunately, my job and everyone else’s was included. A new company will be formed and the management of the company will be in contact with you about the current initiatives in place, including the titles that will remain on the service.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with you and I’m sure our path with cross again.

Minutes later, Fargo fired off the following tweets:

Mashable, citing an unnamed source, reported that an all-hands meeting at 10 am Pacific time resulted in the layoff of the company’s entire staff. Its source also stated that some of the employees may be rehired once the new company is formed. An update to Mashable’s report quotes OnLive Director of Corporate Communications Brian Jaquet as saying “no comment,” but emphasizing that the OnLive service will not be shutting down.

The OnLive service is a solid platform and the company appeared to be doing well. It even released a number of new features this year, including streaming Windows 7 to iPads. In fact, rumors of layoffs don’t seem to have deterred OnLive’s public relations company from advertising the service’s latest offerings. The official OnLive Twitter account just sent out the following tweet:

What exactly is happening at OnLive is still unknown. Though the company has issued carefully-worded statements that the OnLive service will not be shutting down, it has not commented on possible layoffs or made an official statement. Kevin Dent, CEO of Tiswaz Entertainment chimed in on Twitter and summed up the confusion felt throughout the industry:

The Perlman Dent refers to is Steve Perlman, founder and CEO of OnLive.

Updates to this story will follow as more information becomes available.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: Will It Feature Fingerprint-Based Security?

Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhone in less than a month, and the rumors are running more rampant than ever. They’re also getting more interesting.

Matt Brian at TheNextWeb has put together an in-depth, and compelling argument as to why the next iPhone could very well come with technology that would associate the user’s fingerprint with their identity for use in the company’s Passbook iOS 6 application.

    Passbook

You may recall last month, when it became known that Apple is buying network security provider AuthenTec. Long story short, after digging through various documents and SEC filings, Brian was able to piece together (with a healthy dose of pre-iPhone 5 launch speculation, of course) what could be Apple’s plan to include fingerprint hardware technology in the next iPhone. Again, that’s with a lot of assumption and speculation involved, but based on the information presented, it would make a great deal of sense.

I’m not going to regurgitate all the ins and outs of why this may be happening. If you want to know, read Brian’s lengthy post. Suffice it to say, Apple seems to have been in a hurry to get this acquisition done, and has been adamant that production continue “unhindered,” making it seem like Apple wanted it to be ready for something it’s launching in the near future (like say, the next iPhone, and iPad, for that matter).

Passbook, a highly touted feature of iOS 6, would indeed be an ideal use for the fingerprint technology. It handles boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, etc. The more sensitive data a user keeps in the application, the more security factors in. Since phones are highly personal devices, arguably even more so than iPads or Macbooks, an upcoming iPhone model seems like an ideal device to feature such technology.

  • iPhone 5 To Come With 4G LTE Support, As Korean Operator Talks Suggest [Report]

The next version of the iPhone, which may or may not be called the iPhone 5 (most likely not), is expected to be released the third or fourth week of September, following an expected September 12 unveiling.

So, we should have close to a month’s worth of leaks, rumors and speculation to tide us over until then. The latest comes from The Korea Times (via TheNextWeb), which reports that SK Telecom and KT officials say they’ve been in talks with Apple. Kim Yoo-chul reports:

“KT is in negotiation with Apple to persuade the latter to support KT’s 1.8-gigahertz frequency in Korea for the upcoming iPhone,’’ said one KT source, asking not to be identified.

SK Telecom is also pushing for the same. Officials from the nation’s biggest mobile carrier are currently in Apple headquarters in California to persuade Apple to support SK’s LTE frequency for its local customers.

SK reportedly uses an 800-megahertz frequency.

As reported the other day, alleged leaked photos of the device’s motherboard seem to confirm LTE support. As others have noted, this support could put increased strain on the device’s battery.

  • iPhone 5 Release Date Set for “Third or Fourth Week” of September [RUMOR]

iPhone 5 Release Date Set for “Third or Fourth Week” of September [RUMOR]

If we believe the rumored time frame, eager Apple fans will be able to get their hands on the new iPhone on September 21st.

And a new report from BGR seems to corroborate that date range. According to a “trusted source” inside AT&T, the iPhone 5 (new iPhone?) will launch during the third or fourth week of September. And AT&T is planning on a rush, as they are also instituting an all hands on deck policy that will last into October. Not only that, but apparently a large training event has been postponed to early October because of a “huge announcement.”

Current rumors put the release on September 21st, and the official press event to unveil the new device on September 12th. Yesterday, we heard that pre-orders for the next-gen iPhone will also kick off on September 12th. That means that Apple is changing it up a bit from last year. The pre-order period for the iPhone 4S didn’t start until a few days after the debut of the device.

Of course, these are all still rumors at this point – but we have heard a fair amount of sources put the release in late September.

If you’re hungry for more iPhone 5-related predictions, we’ve recently heard about a possibly smaller SIM card, a thinner battery, and a new motherboard design that confirms LTE support.

If all of the spec rumors turn out to be correct, this is likely what your new iPhone will look like:

  • iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Rumored For September 12th

If the latest rumors are to be believed, you’re going to be able to put your money down on Apple’s new iPhone on the same day that they unveil it to the public.

According to iMore, pre-orders for the iPhone 5 (new iPhone?) are set to kick off on September 12th.

If you remember, September 12th is the date that Apple has supposedly tapped to hold the big press event to launch their new smartphone. Although the rumored launch day was the 12th, it wasn’t a sure thing that Apple would also open up pre-orders on the same day. Last year, with the iPhone 4S, Apple introduced the new phone three days before they opened up pre-orders.

And of course, this isn’t a “sure thing” either. It’s a rumor, and as we know, the iPhone rumor mill is one of the most prolific ones around.

But if that date holds up, we’re looking at a September 21st release date for the new iPhone.

This pre-order rumor isn’t the only iPhone 5 rumor that’s floating around today. Chinese forums have claimed that this image is a leak of the device’s motherboard. If true, it would confirm LTE for the upcoming device.

We’ve heard a lot of rumors concerning the new specs on the device. If those rumors are accurate, this is what the iPhone 5 will probably look like:

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: Motherboard Leak Seemingly Confirms LTE

September 12 – the date that the iPhone 5 is supposed to be revealed to the world. We’re still a few weeks away from the fateful day, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill. It keeps churning out new rumors left and right with today’s being maybe one of the most important.

A post on Chinese forum WeiPhone posted some pictures of what appears to be the new motherboard for the iPhone 5. This is an extremely important leak as it gives us a look at how much the iPhone 5 improves upon the iPhone 4’s specs. Unfortunately, not everything was included with the motherboard, including the processor.

What we do know, however, is that the motherboard once again confirms the smaller SIM card. It also features a battery connector with five pins, compared to the four pins on the iPhone 4S. It’s a good indication that the new battery will have a higher capacity.

The motherboard also shows signs of having more antenna connections than the iPhone 4 or 4S. Going off of that fact alone, it would be reasonable to assume that the iPhone 5 will have an LTE connection. It also uses a new connector for the display which seems to confirm that Apple is making use of a new display technology in the iPhone 5.

Like all rumors, it’s important to take this with a grain of salt. It could all be an elaborate ruse. Fortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case this time. 9to5Mac did a little digging on the photographer and found that he supplied accurate pictures of the iPhone 4S motherboard a few months before the device was revealed.

With the latest leak, all the pieces are coming together. The iPhone 5 is looking to be a departure from the technology used in the last two iPhones. It would make sense then if Apple were to just name it the “new iPhone” instead of the iPhone 5.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: New Thin Battery Features Higher Capacity

I honestly thought that we were done with the iPhone 5 rumors and leaks. There seems to be nothing else to divulge about Apple’s new wonder device. Everything has been leaked and nothing will be a surprise when the device is finally revealed. Well, it seems that I spoke too soon.

9to5Mac got a hold of some images that seem to be the new battery that will power the iPhone 5. It wouldn’t be that exciting if it weren’t for the fact that the new battery features some promising upgrades from previous models.

iPhone 5 Rumor Thin Battery Higher Capacity

According to the source, the new battery is thinner and features a higher capacity of 1440 mAh. The iPhone 4S had a battery with a capacity of 1430 mAh. It has a voltage of 3.8, which is up from a voltage of 3.7 on the iPhone 4S. It also has a watts-per-hour measurement of 5.45, which is up from 5.3 on the iPhone 4S.

If none of that made sense to you, just know this: the new iPhone is going to last longer than previous models. There were some prior reports that indicated the iPhone 5 as having battery production problems. Today’s leak seems to indicate that the batteries being produced now are finally up to Apple’s standards.

As 9to5Mac points out, however, the increased battery may also be due to 4G LTE. It requires a larger battery and the new capacity featured in this battery would be enough to push a LTE connection without having to sacrifice general power use.

Like all rumors, nothing is absolutely confirmed until Apple shows off the iPhone 5 at its rumored September 12 reveal. That being said, there’s a good chance that the majority of these leaks and rumors are real. If the rumors do turn out to be true, we could be getting a pretty awesome phone from the guys at Cupertino.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: More Leaked Parts Seemingly Confirm Smaller SIM Card

Thanks to the release of iOS 6 Beta 4, we have been able to confirm a number of rumors concerning the iPhone 5. There are still some rumors that the iOS 6 beta can’t confirm. Thankfully, people are leaking iPhone 5 parts from Chinese factories so that we can get a better look at the device.

French tech site Nowhereelse had recently obtained parts for the iPhone 5 from a Chinese forum called iColorOS. As you can see in the image above, the parts seem to confirm much of the rumors that we’ve been hearing. The screen is indeed larger. What’s interesting however is the new SIM cart. It’s the rumored nano-SIM that we’ve been hearing about.

As is the case with the confirmed smaller 9-pin dock connector, the smaller SIM card doesn’t seem that important at first glance. It’s immensely important, however, when you consider how much more technology Apple is going to be able to cram into the iPhone 5. With the components getting smaller, Apple will be able to implement more technology like the rumored NFC chips.

Besides the obvious benefit of being able to fit more tech inside the phone, going smaller helps improve heat dispersement and battery life. Rumors have suggested that the iPhone 5 has been facing battery life problems. Apple may have moved to smaller components to combat that problem.

With the rumored confirmation of a smaller SIM card out of the way, it seems that we’re almost in the clear as far as iPhone 5 rumors go. Various sources have pretty much confirmed almost everything there is to know about the device. Apple is reportedly holding an event on September 12 to formally announce the device. We’ll find out just how right all these leaks were then.

  • Thief 4 Rumored to be a Next-Gen Release Title

Gamers salivating for another morsel of Thief 4 news will be happy to hear this latest rumor. OXM UK reports in the gossip section of its new issue that the game will be released in 2013 on next-generation consoles, including those expected to be released by Microsoft and Sony. Computer and Videogames backs up the rumor, citing its own unnamed sources.

Thief 4 has been in development for years now, and fans of the series have been waiting for another Thief sequel for longer than we’ve all been waiting for Half-Life 3. The game is being developed by Eidos Montreal, the developer of last year’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

When Thief 4 was officially announced back in May, the developers would not say whether the title would be for current or next-gen consoles. In fact, few details have been released about the game other than the fact that story will play a larger role than in past Thief games. A video demonstration for the game that leaked this June, showing what appears to be a cutscene from the game. The leak was part of a demo reel for an Eidos Montreal artist seeking work.

While it is good to finally get a hint as to when Thief 4 will be coming, console gamers might not appreciate the need to pony up for a new console in order to play it. The current game development climate has also been affected by the rapidly approaching end of the current console cycle. Game announcements are rather vague as to whether upcoming titles will be released for as-yet unannounced next-gen consoles.

  • iOS 6 Beta 4 Might Have Confirmed Another iPhone 5 Rumor

The iOS 6 beta has been a treasure trove of new details surrounding the iPhone 5 that’s reportedly launching next month. Developers were able to confirm that the next iPhone is going to have a larger screen thanks to iOS 6 having a scalable resolution. The next confirmation comes in the form of code that may have finally confirmed the size of the rumored dock connector.

Ever since iPhone 5 rumors began to pick up, we have constantly heard about a smaller dock connector. Back in June, manufacturers said that the new iPhone would have a 19-pin connector instead of the traditional 30-pin connector. Some code in the iOS 6 beta points to the dock connector being even smaler than that.

9to5Mac looked inside the code of the iOS 6 beta and found something very interesting. Buried among other hardware-based code, they found one line that stood out – “copyDeviceSupports9Pin.” Now, this could be anything, but it definitely seems to point to a 9-pin connection. If true, the new dock connector will be even smaller then what the current rumors suggest. Here’s the proof of the code courtesy of 9to5Mac:

    iOS 6 Beta 4 iPhone 5 Rumor

Another point of interest is that this code has apparently been there since iOS 6 beta 1. It seemingly confirms that the new 9-pin connector won’t be exclusive to the iPhone 5 as previous rumors have suggested. If so, then that means Apple will make a killing on selling new accessories for all of their products from the iPod Nano to the iPad.

Like all rumors, nothing is concrete until we hear straight from Apple. Thankfully, the iPhone 5 event will probably take place early next month. We’ll get our first look at the device then.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: If They’re True, This Is What It Will Look Like [Video]

There have been a plethora of iPhone 5 rumors dating back to well before the iPhone 4S came out. As the next iPhone release draws near, people are getting a better idea of what to expect. Tech Radar has put together the following video representing what the device might look like based on the rumors:

It kind of looks like an iPhone, doesn’t it?

The device is expected to be unveiled on September 12. There’s a good chance it won’t actually be called the iPhone 5, but that’s what the majority of people are calling it in the meantime.

More of the latest iPhone 5 rumors (and apparent confirmations) here.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: French Blog Obtains What Could Be Device’s Smaller nano-SIM Tray

If the rumors prove accurate, we should only have about another month’s worth of rumors and leaks to go with the next version of the iPhone. The device, which may or may not be called the iPhone 5 (probably not), is expected to be unveiled on September 12, but in the meantime, let the speculation commence.

French blog NowhereElse.fr has put up some images of what it claims to be the device’s nano-SIM card tray, compared to that of the iPhone 4S. They have several different angles, including the one below. As you can see, the new one (if it’s real) is a little bit smaller. It’s smaller in both length and width.

    iPhone 5 nano-SIM tray?

Also expected to be smaller on the new iPhone is the dock connector. In fact, rumors came out this week that Apple will actually shrink the dock connector on other iPhone models as well.

The screen on the new device, however, will be bigger, by all indications.

See what other rumors are going around about the iPhone 5 here.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors Jumpstart Smartphone Trade-Ins On eBay

It’s a common phenomenon. As soon as a new iPhone is announced or close to being announced, people flock to stores to trade-in their old phones so they can get full value before price drops knock down the trade-in price for them. We’re still more than a month away from the iPhone 5’s rumored launch, but the trade-in exodus has already begun.

According to CNET, eBay has seen a huge increase in iPhone trade-ins through their Instant Sale program. The 70 percent increase has been mostly through trade-ins of the iPhone 4S 16GB model with the 8GB iPhone 4 and 32GB iPhone 4S closely following.

It seems kind of silly to sell your phone this early when we don’t even know if Apple is going to hold an event in September. If the rumor is true, selling it now might not even be the best course of action as you’ll be sitting on a few hundred dollars of PayPal credit for at least a month. Of course, the rumor does seem legitimate and a September launch would fit perfectly into Apple’s plans to dominate the holidays.

It’s important to note that eBay’s trade-in program runs year round. The increase isn’t any indication that the iPhone 5 is near. The real indication will come in the form of retail partners getting their trade-in programs ready. Best Buy and RadioShack have both traditionally been in the trade-in business and their participation would signal that it’s time to get excited.

Trade-in programs aren’t the only place where old iPhones go. A study from yesterday revealed that many iPhone owners option to hand off their old iPhone to family members when they go buy the newest model. Either way, the cycle of used iPhones leading to new iPhone sales remains unbroken.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: This Is The Glass, And It’s Better [Video]

iPhone5Parts.net claims to have gotten its hands on the glass for the iPhone 5 (or the New iPhone or whatever you want to call it).

I’m not actually able to get to iPhone5Parts.net, but ETradeSupply (not to be confused with E*TRADE) has uploaded the video to YouTube (via 9to5Mac). It shows a comparison between the iPhone 5 glass and that of the iPhone 4S.

If this is legitimate, it is taller than its predecessor at 90.25mm, at the same width, with a display area of 4.065 (also taller). It is slightly thicker at 1mm (compared to 0.9mm for the 4S).

    Some other highlights from ETradeSupply:

    • Transmittance: iPhone 5 is better compared with iPhone 4s
    • The camera hole of iPhone 5 glass lens moves from the left side to the right middle above the receiver.
    • The light sensor hole moves from the top to the left side of receiver. Also, it becomes very small.
    • The diameter of home button hole of iPhone 5 glass lens is narrowed 0.3mm. That is to say the iPhone 5 home button will become smaller and the iPhone 4S home button will not fit for iPhone
    • The anti-scratch ability of iPhone 5 is better than iPhone 4s

The narrator says the component comes from “reliable sources”.

The device is expected to be unveiled on September 12. All indications are that the release will be huge.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: $800? Not Likely, But Twitter’s Riled Up

With rumors swirling about that Apple’s next iPhone (iPhone 5? New iPhone?) will be unveiled on September 12th, the next logical step (other the specs speculation) is to worry about the price. And if you happened to log on to Twitter this morning, you may have seen that many people are talking about an $800 iPhone 5.

Now, that kind of price point would be almost suicidal for Apple, and it’s highly unlikely that their new device would launch will such a astronomical price tag – but that hasn’t stopped the Twitterverse from losing their collective minds about the possibility.

The hashtag #800DollarsForAniPhone has been trending all morning, as has the phrase “iPhone 5 $800.”

Here are some of the tweets from concerned Apple fans:

According to IBTimes, the possible source of the $800 iPhone 5 rumor is a screenshot of an alleged price point on a Chinese website, put out there by gamenguide. Not exactly conclusive proof, but as you know, there doesn’t need to be a lot of substance for a rumor to spread on Twitter. Just ask all of those celebrities that Twitter has killed off over the years.

  • New iPhone: Is This What The iPhone 5 Will Really Be Called?

Everyone calls the forthcoming iPhone the iPhone 5. Not everyone, but that’s generally what its referred to as when any rumors or speculation about the device are reported.

In reality, it’s very unlikely that the device will actually be called the iPhone 5. Remember the iPad 3? That was what everyone was calling the latest version fo the iPad before Apple unveiled it, and simply called it the “New iPad”.

I’m not really sure how helpful the strategy of naming a device the “new” iPad or iPhone really is, because eventually, it will no longer be called the “new” one, but that is clearly the path Apple has taken with the iPad, and it seems only logical that the iPhone would follow a similar path.

Gizmodo makes a pretty good case for why the device will almost certainly not be called the iPhone 5, beyond the above point. As the publication notes, the original 2G iPhone was just called the iPhone, the second one was called the iPhone 3G, the third one was called the 3GS, the fourth one was called the iPhone 4, and the fifth one was called the 4S. The major point being that the fifth generation iPhone already exists, and it’s not called the iPhone 5 (remember, that’s what everyone was calling that one too before it was unveiled).

It could be the iPhone 6, but that seem fairly unlikely as well.

If I was a gambling man, I’d put my money on “New iPhone” as what Apple will actually call this thing. Apple still refers to the latest iPad as “The New iPad”. You can see it that on the company’s iOS 6 page, where it shows you the devices the operating system will be compatible with.

    iOS 6

It’s not hard to imagine “The new iPhone” being added to that image. Or maybe it will be “iPhone 6th generation”.

    What do you think?

The device is expected to be unveiled on September 12. Here’s what’s being said about it.

  • New iPhone Rumor: Fully Assembled iPhone 5 Appears On Japanese Website

Today must be iPhone 5 leaks day as images and video of Apple’s next iPhone are flooding in from everywhere. With a rumored late September launch, it only makes sense that Apple would be manufacturing the iPhone 5 right now. Thanks to that, we have what appears to be the first images of a fully assembled iPhone 5.

Japanese Web site iLab Factory got their hands on the parts that make up the new iPhone. What did they do with it? They built the iPhone 5. What they found is that all the previous rumors are turning out to be true including the longer screen and the smaller dock connector.

Here’s the front of the phone with the smaller dock connector clearly visible:

    New iPhone 5

The back of the phone has a new finish that’s definitely smoother and sexier than the current 4S model:

    New iPhone 5

Here’s a close up of the side with power and volume buttons looking especially nice with the new design:

    New iPhone 5

We’ll find out if these images are a real representation of the new iPhone soon enough. Apple will reportedly be holding an event in September to announce the iPhone 5. If these images are real, Apple will undoubtedly have another hit on their hands.

  • iPhone 5 Rumor: The Housing Will Look Like This [Video]

The iPhone 5 (which may not actually be called the iPhone 5), is expected to be unveiled in September. The unveiling event is rumored to be scheduled for September 12 (when the iPad mini could be revealed as well), and there’s talk that the device would be actually released to the public a week after that.

As is the case ahead of any major apple release, rumors have been running rampant, along with allegedly leaked photos of the device, or various elements of it. There’s now a video making the rounds from Macotakara, which claims to show off the housing, or at least what could be the housing of the device. Here’s that video:

Obviously, there’s no way of knowing for sure that this is what it will look like, but as others have pointed out, Macotakara has a decent track record when it comes to Apple, so that could lend some sliver of credibility to the clip.

Either way, September really isn’t that far away at this point, so we’ll all find out soon enough just what this thing is going to look like, as well as what it is actually called. The real question is: how much better will it be than its predecessors and competitors?

To read about what’s expected of the device, peruse our iPhone 5 rumor coverage here.
