  • Christina Hendricks Replaced by Carla Gugino in Showtime Comedy Pilot

Christina Hendricks is out and Carla Gugino is in–at least according to Showtime. The network has replaced Hendricks with Gugino in Roadies as part of a recasting.

None of this was done to diss Christina Hendricks, however. She wanted out. The recasting has now made it possible for her to accept the lead role in a new SundanceTV project called Hap and Leonard.

Christina Hendricks played the role of Shelli in Showtime’s Roadies. She was a band’s production manager. The revamped role finds Carla Gugino portraying “a world-class multitasker, passionate music fan and tireless work partner to the band’s tour manager Bill,” who is played by Luke Wilson.

In Hap and Leonard, Hendricks will play martial arts expert Hap Collins’s ex-wife Trudy. Trudy resurfaces after two years with a proposition Hap (played by The Following’s James Purefoy) simply can’t passed up. The show is said to offer a side-eyed look into race, class and friendship.

Christina Hendricks is, of course, best known for her role as Joan Holloway on AMC’s Mad Men. She was named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman in the World back in 2010, and many believe she still deserves the role today.

Currently appearing on Comedy Central in Another Period, she is said to be hilarious in the American period sitcom.

Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) and Jason Ritter are just two of the all-star cast working alongside Christina Hendricks in Another Period.

In addition to her TV roles, Christina Hendricks has appeared in Lost River, God’s Pocket, and Dark Places alongside Charlize Theron. She will appear in The Neon Demon in 2016.

  • Carla Gugino Takes Lead Role From Christina Hendricks In Showtime’s ‘Roadies’

Carla Gugino has been confirmed to replace Christina Hendricks in Showtime’s new comedy series pilot Roadies. According to news reports, the recasting was due to the latest development of the characters by the creator Cameron Crowe.

The said revisions made it possible for Hendricks to turn down Crowe’s Roadies in July and accept another project with her as the lead in SundanceTV’s Hap and Leonard.

Roadies tells the stories of the people behind the success of a rock band on tour. The main focus of the comedy series is the reality of working behind the scenes, how each character works out their issues to maintain a good working relationship and how their commitment to their work enables them to put up a good show for the band they are touring with.

Gugino is set to play Shelli, the talented and hardworking production manager of the band and right hand to the band’s tour manager played by Luke Wilson.

Roadies is written and directed by Cameron Crowe.  Crowe, J. J. Abrams, Bryan Burke and Winnie Holzman are the executive producers with Kathy Ling as the co-executive producer.

The pilot is produced by Bad Robot Productions alongside Warner Bros. Television. The project will now reshoot with the new Shelli in the cast.

Expect to see a fresh story told from the perspective of the band tour crew in the pilot episode of Roadies. Joining Carla Gugino and Luke Wilson on the Roadies pilot are Imogene Poots, Rafe Spall, Peter Cambor, Keisha Castle-Hughes and guest stars Luis Guzman and Finesse Mitchell.

Carla Gugino starred in the box office hit film “San Andreas” and “Wayward Pines”. She also appears in HBO’s “The Brink.”

Meanwhile, Christina Hendricks is visible in Comedy Central’s Another Period.

  • Carla Gugino Takes Christina Hendricks’ Role Due To “Character Revamp”

Carla Gugino has had a big summer; she starred with The Rock in San Andreas, which was an enormous, monstrous box office hit, and now she’s moving on to a Cameron Crowe-directed series Roadies.

Gugino is taking over for Christina Hendricks, who was originally cast in the upcoming Showtime series. But there’s reportedly no bad blood between the actors; Hendricks says she loved working with Crowe, but the character evolved into a completely different being, requiring a different type of actress.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gugino will play Shelli, a “rock band’s production manager, a world-class multitasker, passionate music fan and tireless work partner to the band’s tour manager Bill” (played by Luke Wilson).

This isn’t the first time Carla Gugino has appeared on Showtime; she had a guest-starring role on Californication alongside David Duchovny. As of now she can be seen on HBO’s The Brink.

Gugino had a blockbuster on her hands with San Andreas, an action-packed film about an enormous earthquake that hits California and puts millions of lives–including those of The Rock’s ex-wife and daughter–in danger. The film wasn’t much of a stretch for Carla, who survived an earthquake once herself. She said in an interview earlier this year that she will never sleep naked in California again because of it.

“I was in the Northridge quake in 1994, living in the Pacific Palisades with my boyfriend at the time. I woke up from a dead sleep. And I was sleeping naked, just in my birthday suit. I got up and I could not find any clothes – and the ground was shaking, things were falling. I was just going to run out of that house, just naked as the day I was born. But I finally found my robe on the ground. I put that robe on, and I have not, to this date, slept naked in California ever again!” Carla Gugino said.

  • Christina Hendricks: ‘Mad Men’ Star Joins Cast of Showtime’s ‘Roadies’

Christina Hendricks, who stars as Joan Harris on the AMC hit show Mad Men, is joining the cast of a new Showtime comedy called Roadies. The one-hour pilot follows the lives of the members of a rock band. Hendricks plays the band’s production manager, Shelli. She is paired in the pilot with Bill, another behind-the-scenes crew member. Bill is played by Luke Wilson.

This will be a far cry from what the five time Emmy winning actress is known for–playing Joan, the former-power-secretary-turned-partner at Sterling Cooper, but will also likely be a nice change. Mad Men will soon end its TV run, with its final episodes being aired in the spring.

Roadies stars several strong actors besides Christina Hendricks. Luke Wilson (Old School), Imogen Poots (The Look of Love), Rafe Spall (One Day), Peter Cambor (NCIS: Los Angeles), and Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider) will all join Hendricks in the upcoming show.

In addition to Mad Men and the upcoming TV series, Christina Hendricks will soon be seen in a new film. She is set to star in Dark Places, which is adapted from a bestseller by Gillian Flynn. Hendricks plays the role of Patty Day in the film that deals with murder and a secret society. Dark Places will also star Chloe Grace Moretz, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult. It is set to land in theaters in 2015.

Cameron Crowe is set to direct Roadies, which is slated to begin filming for the pilot in Vancouver very early in 2015. He is, of course, hoping the pilot will become a full series pickup. It’s likely Christina Hendricks is hoping the same. Do you think she might find herself involved in something that will bring her the kind of success she’s known in Mad Men or might this simply be a blip on the screen en route to her next career milestone?
