  • Capcom Essentials Nets You 5 Games And A Travel Bag For $60

Did you swear off all Capcom games over the last seven years? Did you miss out on such “essentials” like Devil May Cry 4 or Resident Evil 6? If so, Capcom has a treat for you.

Capcom announced today its new Capcom Essentials collection that packages together five games for $60. The games included in the set are Resident Evil 6, Dead Rising 2, Super Street Fighter IV, Devil May Cry 4 and Mega Man 10. To sweeten the deal, they’re also throwing in a Capcom travel bag.

Now, this isn’t a bad deal, but some of the games choices are baffling. Why Super Street Fighter IV when they could have included Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition? To upgrade to the latest version of Street Fighter IV, players will have to pay an extra $15.

Obviously, the odd one out is Resident Evil 6. It’s a relatively new game that could still be sold for $60. Of course, nobody would buy it for that price after it received heavy criticism last year from critics and gamers alike.

That being said, you’re still getting five games for the price of one brand new title. I would argue that Mega Man 10 makes the whole thing worth it, but you can just buy that on the PSN/XBLA for $10. If you haven’t played any of these games, however, this is a good chance to catch up on some of Capcom’s best and worst games of the last generation.

The Capcom Essentials collection will be available at retailers starting October 8.

  • Left 4 Dead 2 Cast To Appear In The PC Version Of Resident Evil 6

Last year’s disappointing Resident Evil 6 is hoping to find new life on the PC later this month. Part of that revival comes in the form of “No Mercy,” a new multiplayer mode exclusive to the PC version. What’s even more surprising is that Valve is bringing the cast of Left 4 Dead 2 to this mode.

Capcom announced today that Resident Evil 6 players will be able to play as Coach, Ellis, Rochelle and Nick in the exclusive mode. To up the ante even more, Capcom is also bringing two enemies from Left 4 Dead 2 to this mode – the Witch and the Mini-Tank.

As part of the working relationship between Capcom and Valve, the former will be bringing enemies from Resident Evil 6 to Left 4 Dead 2. Capcom is also calling on fans to put the human cast of Resident Evil 6 into Left 4 Dead 2.

The new characters are a nice love letter to the PC fans of both Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead. The new “No Mercy” mode sounds incredibly fun as well. The only disappointment is that the PC version still won’t fix Resident Evil 6’s boring, and lackluster, singleplayer campaign.

  • Resident Evil 6 For PC Gets Exclusive Mercenaries Mode

Resident Evil 6 was critically panned when it first launched, but that hasn’t dissuaded Capcom from releasing the PC port in March. In fact, the publisher announced a new mode exclusive to the PC version that should provide a hearty challenge to the most hardcore players.

Capcom announced today that Resident Evil 6 for the PC will launch with a new mode for the popular Mercenaries game type. It’s called No Mercy, and it throws more enemies at players than was possible on consoles. Furthermore, Capcom will release a benchmark test before the title’s launch so PC players can determine if their PC is up to snuff. You can check out the system requirements here.

PC players aren’t the only ones getting some new Resident Evil 6 content in the future, however, as the console versions will be getting a new multiplayer mode called “Seige” in March. The add-on pack supports two to six players who are spread across two teams. One team consists of monsters trying to kill an AI controlled BSAA agent while the other team is made up of the cast from RE6 trying to protect him. In short, Capcom has turned the escort mission into a multiplayer mode. This is innovation, folks.

The new Seige mode will retail for $3.99 when it launches sometime in March for the PS3 and Xbox 360. This mode, alongside previously released DLC, will be available for the PC version shortly after its launch on March 22.

In other Resident Evil news, Capcom will be bringing a hi-def port of 3DS title, Resident Evil Revelations, to the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U in May.

  • Resident Evil 6 Coming To PC March 2013

Resident Evil 6 was a divisive game for many this year. Some felt it was a complete betrayal of the series’ roots while others enjoyed the more action-packed scenarios. Either way, PC gamers were left out of the fun until a later date that had yet to be decided – that decision came today.

Capcom announced that Resident Evil 6 will launch on the PC on March 22, 2013. The game will feature all of the additions that just launched on the console version including a better camera, the “No Hope” difficulty mode, and having Ada’s campaign unlocked from the start.

The PC-specific additions are the usual features that you see on Steam supported games. The game will feature cloud saves, Steam achievements, Friends support, game overlay and leaderboards. More interesting, however, is the game’s required and recommended system specs. They imply that the game is going to get some visual upgrades as well if the recommend specs are any indication:

    Minimum specs

    OS: Windows Vista/XP, Windows 7, Windows 8

Processor: Intel CoreTM2 Duo 2.4 Ghz or better, AMD AthlonTM X2 2.8 Ghz or better

    Memory: 2 GB RAM

Hard Disk Space: 16 GB free hard drive space

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS or better

    DirectX: 9.0c or greater

    Sound: Standard audio device

    Recommended specs

    OS: Windows Vista/XP, Windows 7, Windows 8

Processor: Intel CoreTM 2 Quad 2.7 Ghz or better, AMD PhenomTM II X4 3 Ghz or better

    Memory: 4 GB RAM

Hard Disk Space: 16 GB free hard drive space

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or better

    DirectX: 9.0c or greater

    Sound: Standard audio device

In other news, a second update will be hitting Resident Evil 6 on January 22. This update unlocks Agent Hunt mode from the start, adds stage selection from within chapters, and a QTE assist mode that completes all those pesky QTE challenges automatically. This update will also ship with the PC version in March.

  • New Resident Evil 6 DLC Coming December 18

It used to be that the replay value of a Resident Evil title came from playing as a different character or trying to beat the game in the shortest amount of time possible. This is 2012, though, and downloadable content (DLC) is the new reality for AAA game titles. With ResidentEvil.net, Capcom has shown that its vision for Resident Evil 6 extends well into next year.

Today, Capcom revealed that the first DLC packs for the new Resident Evil will be exclusively available to Xbox 360 owners on December 18. The content includes three new multiplayer modes that can be bought separately for 320 Microsoft Points or as a bundle for 720 Microsoft Points.

In addition to the new content, the long-awaited patch announced back in October will hit both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on December 17. It will enable the “No Hope Left” difficulty mode, a new co-op partner for the Ada campaign, and a few other convenience features.

Capcom has released a trailer previewing the new multiplayer modes included in the upcoming DLC. The Predator mode pits one to five players against a single player who takes on the role of the Ustanak:

Survivors mode is normal versus mode, but players who die will respawn as an enemy character and have to take down another player to come back as a human.

Onslaught is two-player mode where players compete to eliminate waves of enemies. Combos send more enemies to an opponent’s screen.

  • Resident Evil 6 Gets Patched Up In December

Resident Evil 6 took a beating from critics and players upon its release. I found the game to be pretty fun, but it definitely has some issues. Capcom can’t really fix a lot of said issues so they’re going to do the next best thing – release a lot of free content.

Capcom detailed a patch hitting Resident Evil 6 in December that adds a number of new features and even some new and expanded content. The major addition, of course, is that Ada Wong’s campaign can now be played from the start without having to play through the other three campaigns first. Players will also get a little help in Ada’s campaign as a new co-op partner has been added.

The game will also be receiving a field of view update to allows players to take in more of the environment. It will be incredibly helpful for those who want to see more than just what’s immediately in front of them. The new FOV settings are still being developed, however, and Capcom says they may change before the update is released.

The other major update is a new “No Hope” difficulty setting for those who found the game to be too easy even on professional. It should help extend the replay value for those who have already beaten the game multiple times.

Capcom will continue to monitor feedback and implement changes as they see fit. It won’t change the game’s lack of atmosphere, but it should make it more enjoyable to play. As for the PC version, Joystiq reports that a release date is still up in the air.

  • New Resident Evil 6 Trailer Shows the Interplay Between Characters

If you’ve seen any trailers yet for Resident Evil 6, you’ll know that the game begins with a massive biological attack on a major city. Today, Capcom released the Tokyo Game Show trailer for the game, and it showcases some of the events that take place in the immediate aftermath of the attack, as well as a hint at what could be the largest bio-weapons research facility yet seen in a Resident Evil game.

The trailer, seen below, also shows some of the interplay between the major characters in the game (and series). This is the first time so many of the series’ major characters have been in one Resident Evil game. It’s clear that Chris and Leon will have plenty to talk about when meeting up in Residen Evil 6.

Resident Evil 6 is scheduled to launch on October 2nd. A demo for the game is already available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

  • Resident Evil 6 Demo Hits Xbox Live And PSN Today

Resident Evil 6 is one of the more popular titles to come out this holiday season. The demo that shipped with Dragon’s Dogma was an absolute blast, but it was rather limited in scope. Capcom promised a much meatier demo that gives us more time with all three characters, and that demo launches today.

Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 6 demo is now out on Xbox Live. The demo would normally show up on the PSN later today with the weekly update, but it’s apparently available now. Gamers are reporting that PS3 owners should just search for Resident Evil 6 on the PSN, and it should show up.

The demo in question will allow players to go through a small section of all three main campaigns. The first features Leon and Helena as they make their way through Ivy University. This is the part of the demo that Conan O’Brien fearlessly tackled last week.

Chris Redfield will be making his way through the streets of Edonia. If it’s anything like the previous demo, expect a lot of big bio-terror monsters that are more like classic Resident Evil monsters. The final demo features newcomer Jake as he takes on the new Javo enemies on the streets of Lanshiang.

Resident Evil 6 has a lot resting on its shoulders. Many fans, including yours truly, were disappointed by Resident Evil 5. It was a great game, but it just lacked the magic that previous games had. The previous Resident Evil 6 demo I played brought back the tension that the series was previously known for. Old school fans are going to especially love Leon’s campaign as he fights classic zombies.

  • Resident Evil 6 Faces Its Toughest Critic In Conan O’Brien

It’s been well documented that Conan O’Brien is the greatest game critic of our time. His reviews of Minecraft and Skyrim are some of the best reviews to ever hit gaming. His latest review is perhaps his best.

O’Brien claims that he got the exclusive scoop on the highly anticipated Resident Evil 6. In all reality, he’s playing the demo that will be coming out on September 18. It’s still the first time that anybody outside of the press has played the upcoming demo. In the below video, O’Brien shows that he has what it takes to survive in a zombie apocalypse.

At the end, O’Brien felt that the backstory was too complicated and that zombies should just be zombies. He probably doesn’t know it, but he just listed the main two complaints of Resident Evil fans everywhere. It’s been far too long since we had a simple game that was just the usual zombies instead of the bioterrors that we’ve come to expect out of Resident Evil 5 and 6.

As for the final score, he’s judging the game on a scale of 1 to 1,500 with anything below zero being better than fantastic. He gives a game a 35 which puts at fantastic, but not any better. After playing the demo that came with my copy of Dragon’s Dogma, I couldn’t agree more with O’Brien on this one.

  • New Resident Evil 6 Trailers Released

Resident Evil fans have already been treated to plenty of Resident Evil 6 gameplay footage. They’ve been shown what they can expect to get in their shiny collector’s editions. Capcom has shown off their idea of a Resident Evil 6 endgame, and Dragon’s Dogma owners have had access to the demo since July.

Now, though, with less than one month to go before release day, Capcom has unleashed the real marketing. Today sees the debut of two new TV spots for the game, both titled “No Hope Left.” One features clips from Resident Evil 6’s cutscenes, while the other is a cinematic that shows the reaction of real people to…something. The release of the “C” Virus, I guess. Their faces are full of despair.

Both trailers are slightly depressing, but hopefully they foreshadow that some closure is finally coming to a few of the story arcs in the Resident Evil franchise.

  • ResidentEvil.Net Trailer Shows How Capcom Envisions the Resident Evil 6 Endgame

Video game publishers and developers have been working for a while now to try and keep gamers playing their games long after their initial release. The downloadable content (DLC) that comes along with a major title release is almost expected at this point, and some companies have even successfully turned their DLC into a subscription service.

Last week, Capcom announced that it would be using Bungie’s Halo-style content extension method by creating ResidentEvil.Net. The website will keep track of players in Resident Evil 6, displaying many stats on the website and ranking players against each other. ResidentEvil.Net will keep track of how many enemies players kill, the types of weapons used, and the medals players earn.

Resident Evil 6 fans can compete in challenges, some of which reward a player with a “championship belt.” This belt provides nothing other than the recognition of having it, and must be defended in subsequent events. Players are also encouraged through RE.Net points to use the service and enter website events. The points can be used to purchase in-game costumes or virtual figurines to place into a virtual Resident Evil diorama. I know how ridiculous that sounds, and I don’t expect you to believe me. Check out the video below at around the 3-minute mark and see for yourself.

Capcom encourages players to challenge each other and share their achievements over Facebook or Twitter. There will even be a companion smartphone app that can alert players when their high score has been beaten.

Whether this type of service will take off for a game that has no large-scale competitive multiplayer mode will be interesting to see. Already, the service has a few things going against it. First, players have to sign up for a ResidentEvil.Net account, and we all know how much gamers love filling out online forms instead of playing their new game. Second, ResidentEvil.Net will require a PlayStation Network or Xbox LIVE account, according to a message at the end of the trailer. If this is accurate, Capcom is snubbing PC gamers, who are exactly the type of gamers most likely to form niche communities around games they enjoy.

Take a look below at Capcom’s trailer for ResidentEvil.Net, which shows all of the features the publisher expects Resident Evil fans to want. Fair warning, though – the narrator for the video reminds me of the voice-over guys in commercials for “extreme” toys aired on Nickelodeon in the 90s.

  • New Resident Evil 6 Trailer Leaked From Gamescom

Resident Evil fans have already gotten a nice taste of what awaits them in less than 2 months when they get their hands on Resident Evil 6. Capcom has been releasing trailers and gameplay videos with regularity, and a demo for the title is even available for owners of Dragon’s Dogma on the Xbox 360.

This week, what appears to be a launch trailer for Resident Evil 6 has hit the internet. Once again, Gamescom 2012 has become a font of information and leaks about upcoming titles, rivaling even the info-dump that is E3. The trailer was apparently filmed secretly at Gamescom using a smartphone, and the video and audio are of poor quality. Still, the trailer shows the events that propel Leon, Chris, Ada, Sherry, and others toward what could be the conclusion of a major Resident Evil story arc.

Much of the early part of the game has been previewed already, but this trailer shows that Leon and Helena, framed for a bioterrorism attack which released the “C” virus, will be faking their deaths in an effort to throw off the Umbrella Corporation. The rest of the trailer is filled with fast-cut action scenes, and is similar to a modern blockbuster movie trailer. Take a look at the trailer below and catch a glimpse of the exciting, though undoubtedly convoluted, story in Resident Evil 6.

  • Europe Gets An Envy-Inducing Collector’s Edition For Resident Evil 6

Europe Gets An Envy-Inducing Collector’s Edition For Resident Evil 6

I’ll be honest here – I spend way too much money on collector’s editions of my favorite games. If there’s a collector’s edition, I’m probably going to end up getting it for all the awesome swag that it contains. There has been a disturbing trend recently, however, that makes me rethink my long-term plans of staying in the United States.

Capcom announced some special editions of Resident Evil 6 for the U.S. a while back that included digital versions of all the past games in the series. It was a pretty awesome set and a pretty good deal at $90 for those who haven’t played the past games in the franchise. What about those of us who are Resident Evil diehards though? The fans who have been with the franchise since the awesome N64 port of Resident Evil 2? Where’s our special edition? It’s apparently only coming to Europe.

The Capcom Europe blog announced the existence of an absolutely amazing collector’s edition for Resident Evil 6. It contains an absolutely mind-blowing amount of awesome stuff that makes the U.S. collector’s edition for Resident Evil 5, which I purchased for $90, seem like utter trash.

The RE6 CE for Europe comes with the game in one of those wonderful steelbook cases, a hardcover art book, download codes for avatar gear on the Xbox 360 or a dynamic theme on the PS3, emblem insignias for the three main characters, an Ivy University Tall Oaks hoody and an awesome “Needle Bomb” box that houses all of it.

Like I said, I’m seriously questioning my nation of origin at this point. If Capcom thinks so little of us that we only get a couple of digital games and not something as awesome as this, I feel a little insulted. Of course, Capcom has not announced all of their plans for the U.S. market yet, but it does sound like this particular collector’s edition is going to stay Europe-only for the time being.

If you are one of the lucky ones to be born to European parents, you can pick up this awesome collector’s edition in the UK, France and Germany from select retailers. You may want to start saving now, because I’m sure it’s going to cost a pretty pound sterling/euro.

We’ll keep you up to date if Capcom decides to start treating U.S. citizens like normal people. Between Japan getting the awesome $1,200 leather jacket special edition and this, it just seems like they don’t care about the gamers who put the original Resident Evil on the spot. Maybe they need a reminder that it has been U.S. gamers who continuously pump more money into the Resident Evil franchise than any other territory. Just a thought.

  • Resident Evil 6 Gameplay Video Shows Lots of Walking, Talking

Fans of the Resident Evil series have only a little over 3 months to wait for the release of Resident Evil 6. The footage shown during Microsoft’s big E3 press conference revealed that the game’s setting would be more urban, similar to Resident Evil 2 and 3. The control scheme, though, will take after the much-improved Resident Evil 4 and 5. Gamers everywhere are hoping the series can recover from the hiccup that was Resident Evil 5.

Today, Capcom has released nearly 20 minutes of gameplay from Resident Evil 6. The footage, broken up into two videos, is no doubt from near the beginning of the game, and it shows Leon rounding up survivors of a zombie attack in a government building. The clips show that quicktime events are still a large part of the Resident Evil action. In this game, however, it seems as if the developers are focusing a little more on atmosphere. Most of the footage shows Leon and his partner, Helena, walking around and talking about their situation. This is broken up by numerous long cut-scenes, with the action picking up late and lasting for less than three minutes. Depending on what you enjoy about the Resident Evil franchise, this could be good or bad.

Take a look at the footage below to judge Resident Evil 6 for yourself. If you want to see the action, skip to around the 6-minute mark in the second video:

As you can see, Leon has come a long way since his bumbling adventure through the Raccoon City Police Department in Resident Evil 2. He now wields dual pistols with John Woo-movie skill and has a roundhouse kick smoother than Chuck Norris.

If you are looking for something more similar to the old-school survival horror of the early Resident Evil games, you will have to go looking in the indie game market. Games such as Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs and Sacrilegium look to be bringing back that wonderful feeling of controlling a relatively helpless character surrounded by oppressive, menacing dread.

  • Resident Evil 6 Gets Two Collections For PS3 And Xbox 360

Capcom’s biggest hit this year is obviously going to be Resident Evil 6. The franchise has brought in more and more fans over the years as it has moved away from its survival-horror roots to the more action focused horror-shooter that we know it as today. All the new players coming to the series might need a refresher and Capcom has just the thing.

Capcom announced today that Resident Evil 6 Anthology and Resident Evil 6 Archives will be hitting the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively later this year alongside the standard release. The two collections aim to let players catch up on the latest happenings in the Resident Evil universe by collecting the prior games together in a digital package.

Each version will cost $89.99 and contains the following games:

    RESIDENT EVIL 6 ANTHOLOGY (PS3)

    Resident Evil 6

    Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition

    Resident Evil 4 HD

    Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

    Resident Evil 2

    Resident Evil: Director’s Cut

    RESIDENT EVIL 6 ARCHIVES (360)

    Resident Evil 6

    Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition

    Resident Evil 4 HD

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD

    Resident Evil Degeneration (DVD film)

As far as completeness goes, the PS3 collection is by far the much better collection. Getting digital versions of the original PlayStation titles will go along to introducing new players to what are arguably the golden age of Resident Evil when the games were actually scary.

The Xbox 360 version is no slouch, however, as it contains Code Veronica X HD which the PS3 version lacks. It could be argued that Code Veronica X is essential to the overall Resident Evil storyline, but it’s really up to personal preference. Getting the Degeneration film is also a nice touch that the PS3 version lacks.

Either way, it would appear that Residen Evil fans who want to catch up on their history have a pretty good collection to look forward to. The price might seem a little steep, but we have yet to see if these collections will have any other extra goodies. The price tag is the same amount I paid for the Resident Evil 5 Collector’s Edition and I got plenty of sweet swag to go along with the game. Here’s hoping these collections offer the same.

While we’re at it, check out the E3 2012 trailer for Resident Evil 6. I’m still bummed that Microsoft keeps on paying off these publishers to get timed exclusive DLC, but that shouldn’t effect what should be another great entry in the Resident Evil franchise.

  • Dragon’s Dogma Launch Trailer Is Suitably Epic

Even though the game doesn’t come out for another two weeks, Capcom has seen fit to get a launch trailer up for its open world epic Dragon’s Dogma. Even though Capcom just launched a trailer yesterday showing off the amazing Ur-Dragon, the launch trailer just injects the world with even more awesome.

Like all launch trailers, it does its best to set up the story in Dragon’s Dogma while showing off the best the gameplay has to offer. We get to see the same battles set in giant open fields with various mythological beasts that we’ve seen for a while now. The exception this time is that it’s set to awesome music to get the hype moving.

The trailer also reminds you that this game is being made the top talent at Capcom. These are the same guys that worked on Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4. You know it’s going to be good in the action department. What’s even better is that the creator of Breath of Fire was brought on board to help conceptualize the world and the fantasy setting.

If you still need more convincing, they are quick to remind you that buying Dragon’s Dogma gives players early access to the Resident Evil 6 demo. Both games are looking pretty fantastic so it’s a win-win for gamers who want to get their hands on the latest chapter in the Resident Evil franchise. If you own both consoles, you might want to Xbox 360 since they get the demo first.

Dragon’s Dogma will be launching for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on May 22. It’s my most anticipated game of the year so I really hope it’s good. The combination of Japanese action with Western RPG mechanics is just too enticing to pass up.
