  • Kim Kardashian Takes Home Her First Razzie Award

Kim Kardashian has been a fixture on the reality scene for several years now, but she’s shown an interest in acting as well, and her fans don’t seem to be buying it.

The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star earned her first Razzie Award this week as Worst Supporting Actress in Tyler Perry’s “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor”. Perry says he’s proud of Kardashian for her take on the role, which centered on a self-involved, critical businesswoman.

“I wrote this role, Ava, which is perfect for her – a small role that she delivered, she completely, 100% delivered, and she’s hysterical. She takes every beat and every moment, and I was proud of the work she did in the movie,” Perry said.

Critics had a field day with Kardashian’s performance, calling her nasal and unable to feign even the smallest emotion onscreen.

“Let’s just say that the question of whether the celebrity gossip maven can act is answered within 60 seconds of her cold absence of any feeling performance,” wrote Joel D. Amos at Moviefanatic.com.

The reality star and her mom recently made headlines after they were invited to the Vienna Opera Ball and were approached by a fan in blackface who ran up to them and started doing Kanye West impressions. Chris Stephan said later that he meant no offense and apologized on his Facebook page.

“I am very sorry that this whole situation went badly and was completely misunderstood. I am myself an Arab, born in Austria! Under no circumstance did I want to come across as racist with this action and again apologize to everyone who felt offended,” he wrote.

  • Razzie Awards Led by ‘Grown Ups 2’

Razzie Awards Led by ‘Grown Ups 2’

The Razzie Awards were very generous to one particular film that graced the big screen in 2013. Grown Ups 2 leads the pack for the most number of Razzie nominations. The film received a total of eight nominations at the mock awards show on Wednesday, two of which were for worst picture and worst actor. Will Smith’s film After Earth was a close second to Grown Ups 2, receiving six nominations, as was Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas, which also received six. Rounding out the four films vying for the Razzie Award is Movie 43. Has anyone even heard of that one? Surely someone has since it starred Halle Berry. Oh, and she received a Razzie nomination for Worst Actress–and a second one, too, for The Call.

Of course the Razzies aren’t voted on by fans, but rather an exclusive group of Hollywood naysayers who love to point out film flops. The Razzie winners are chosen by 750 members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation as well as votes from 62,000 users of the film review website, RottenTomatoes.com.

Despite the number of Razzies it received, Grown Ups 2 was still recognized during the Peoples Choice Awards when Adam Sandler received the award for Favorite Comedic Actor.

Yes, the Peoples Choice winner, Adam Sandler, also leads the Razzies pack for Worst Actor, along with Ashton Kutcher for his role in Jobs. Poor Sylvester Stallone–he received three nominations for Worst Actor for his roles in Grudge Match, Escape Plan and Bullet to the Head.

To add insult to injury, The Razzies hand out these awards on the eve of the Oscars. Stay tuned for the March 1st announcement to see which films and which actors “win.”

  • Razzie Awards: Who Sucked Big Time Last Year?

Award season is in full swing, and I don’t just mean accolades. It’s time for the worst of the worst to receive their “honors” as well.

The Golden Raspberry Awards is meant to single out the worst movies, directors, actors, and so forth, who have failed to meet even the most bare minimum of moviegoer expectations. This year marks the 34th Razzies and the nominations were promising, for lack of a better term.

Affectionately known as the Razzies, the distinctions given are totally tongue in cheek. No malice is meant in poking fun at the “glut of self-congratulatory awards” that Hollywood gives itself each year. Still, plenty of fun can be had kicking people while they’re down. After all, who really wants to be reminded of just how terrible their movie-related endeavors were?

Adam Sandler’s “Grown-Ups 2” leads the way with an embarrassing eight nominations, including worst picture and worst actor. Given the lackluster nature of the first movie, it’s not exactly surprising that the sequel was terrible. Apparently Sandler is either too rich or too bored to be truly funny anymore. I prefer this explanation to the one where he was never funny and an entire generation simply outgrew his humor. That would be too depressing. In any case, odds are he and his latest visual car-crash will be walking away with at least one award.

Proving that nepotism doesn’t always deliver the desired outcome, “After Earth” is another heavy contender for multiple Razzie awards. The Will Smith movie was meant to shine a light on his son, Jaden’s, aspiring acting career and their father/son bond. The problem is that we already had that movie: It was called “The Pursuit of Happyness” and it was actually pretty good. This movie? Not so much. Proof positive that sometimes it’s best to quit while you’re ahead.

Other promising nominees include repeat-offender Tyler Perry, whose “Madea’s Christmas” and “Temptation” both received nods, and newcomer Lady Gaga. “Machete Kills” was probably never meant to be taken seriously, but unfortunately for Gaga’s, her acting chops are questionable even in movies that are bad on purpose. Yikes.

Who will limp away with a Razzie all their own? You’ll just have to wait until March 1st to find out. In the meantime, check out the official site for a full list of nominees.

  • Razzies Include Some Not-So-Surprising Nominations

2013 was a year full of bad movies, at least according to the nomination list for the Razzies, awards given to the worst picture and actors annually.

The list for this year’s awards includes some unsurprising titles, including “The Lone Ranger” and “Grown Ups 2”. While there were high hopes for the former–which starred Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the hero–the film was a box office flop and got some pretty scathing reviews. As for “Grown Ups 2”, the film was heavily panned by critics even though the first one actually did pretty well at the box office. Star Adam Sandler was named the number one overpaid actor of 2013 after Forbes Magazine said that for every dollar Sandler made, he pulled in just $3.40 at the box office.

There are a couple of names on the list that you might not see coming, however, including Naomi Watts for “Diana”. Check out the full list of noms below.
