Sometimes awkward moments just fall in your lap, and that’s exactly what actress Zoe Saldana was faced with last night on ‘What What Happens Live’. Thursday, Dec. 5, she and legendary comedian-actress, Whoopi Goldberg, stopped in to chat with Bravo TV host Andy Cohen.
The show started out like any other, and conversation flowed with the usual comedic banter viewers are accustomed to where Cohen is concerned. But, things got a bit interesting when one question was asked in typical ‘Andy Cohen’ fashion.
Most would have anticipated questions in regards to some of her most recent films, upcoming projects or her recent marriage.
However, Cohen had another angle in mind, as one of her earlier works was one of his personal favorites. He inquired about the film, “Crossroads” with she and pop singer, Britney Spears.
“She has starred in some major blockbusters, but there’s one film that stands out from the rest,” Cohen said as he introduced Saldana. “My fave, that’s right, Crossroads, with Miss Britney Jean Spears.” After Saldana’s introduction, Cohen proceeded to play a short clip of the 2002 film. The topic started out relatively normal. However, things got a little interesting when the game segment of the show came around.
Cohen set the game clock for 30 seconds, and briefly shared the rules of the game with Saldana before beginning. He stated that he’d ask the ‘Columbiana’ actress everything he wanted to know about ‘Brit Brit’ (referring to Britney Spears). She agreed and the clock started.
US Magazine shared the comedic dialogue following the show:
Cohen: “On a scale of 1 to 10, how country is Britney?”
Saldana: “Country!”
Cohen: “On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate her acting chops?”
Saldana: “Very good.”
Cohen then asked the Guardians of the Galaxy actress for a number. “Oh, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being super fabulous?” she replied. “Um, I would say a six? A seven? Eight-ish?”
In the deft moment, her response was probably her honest opinion, and quite harmless. But nevertheless, it was just a little insulting, and the moment was definitely awkward! However, that happens to be the beauty of “Watch What Happens Live”.
The show definitely bares it’s name sake. You never know what you will see or hear when its live television. When its live, there’s no time for editing and polishing. However, there was no love lost, and no harm done.
For those who may not remember Saldana’s humble big-screen beginnings, she co-starred alongside the ‘Hold It Against Me’ in “Crossroads”. She, Spears, and actress Taryn Manning portrayed three high school students who have been friends since their adolescent years. The film chronicles their adventures as they embark on a cross-country road trip.
