  • Janet Hubert Gives Jada Pinket-Smith A Tongue-Lashing Over Oscar Boycott

Janet Hubert – or Aunt Viv to us Gen Xers – has finally jumped into the fray. The former The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum took to Facebook and posted a video of her own, slamming Jada Pinkett-Smith’s recent call to boycott this year’s Academy Awards for not having any colored nominees in its roster.

The four-minute video, which was posted on Monday, shows Hubert sitting in what seems to be her kitchen and launching into her own tirade against the Smiths.

Addressing Pinkett-Smith as “Miss Thing,” Janet Hubert proceeded to criticize the actress’ motives in initiating the boycott, and implied that she was merely sour-graping about the fact that Will did not get an Oscar nomination for his performance in Concussion.

Watch Janet Hubert a.k.a. Aunt Viv Rant About Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Oscars Boycott Plea

She also accused Pinkett-Smith of trying to “jeopardize” the careers of other black actors and actresses by dragging them into their cause.

“For you to ask other actors, other blacktresses [sic] and black actors to jeopardize their career and their standing in a town that you know damn well, you don’t do that,” Janet Hubert ranted.

In a no-holds-barred interview with The Los Angeles Times on Wednesday, Janet Hubert went into greater detail about diversity in Hollywood as well as other greater issues that need more attention. She stated that some actors have become fixated on working to gain recognition as opposed to focusing on the job at hand and striving to execute it in the best possible way.

If you are waiting for an award of a little…gold statue and that’s supposed to validate you, then you’re not in this business for the right reasons,” said Hubert in the interview. “We get paid a lot of money to do very little work.”

Jada Pinkett-Smith has since reacted to Hubert’s rant and noticeably chose a more diplomatic approach to the issue.

In an informal interview conducted by ETonline, the 44-year-old actress responded to Janet Hubert by suggesting that members of the black community unite instead of antagonize each other in order to address African-American issues more effectively.

Lindsay Lohan May Be Losing Her Mind, Makes Incoherent Rant On Instagram

When under the influence of alcohol or anything, never ever drunk text anyone, not your lover, not your ex, in fact don’t touch your phone! Please save yourself from the humiliating outcome!

Under influence or not, Lindsay Lohan would never drunk text anyone but she would post incoherent Instagram rants for everyone to read instead.

After canceling her Toronto International Film Festival appearance to promote her film Inconceivable, Lindsay Lohan ranted on her Instagram account. What for? Well, nobody seems to have an answer for that! Lohan seemed to be recalling the September 11 terrorist attack mixed with recalling her only private friend, Michael Jackson, then asking Allah for forgiveness. “they always come back. I love you NYC #godblesstheworld #michaeljackson #rip miss you as my real only private friend. For you: god, for all hurts and wrongs, please let me forgive, Allah please let me be forgiven, and all forgive themselves. Please and thank you. Someone I was with the night before several towers fell, it felt like not a curse, but more like a spell.” Lohan continued her post talking about PETA commercials and some shows and sites. “I’m a girl with a reputation mislead… Like a diamond in the rough, you, now, for 25 years have seen me on TV and screen.. So i am programmed to stand tough. “Lohan also said. Lohan ended her rants by praising Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep and Oprah “If helping others is a passion, talk to angelina jolie… If you want to be a brilliant actress, work wth Meryl Streep …at the end of the day- republican or democrats — BE HERE NOW @oprah and live with integrity. Or go to sleep. The most beautiful life comes cheap. Stop fighting and using artists for distractions. It’s boring… #UnitedNations .”

  • Kanye West Booed in London Concert Rant

When you manage to get the fans who paid to come see you to start booing you, then you have really accomplished something. Kanye West walked into a hall full of fans who had come to see Drake, but ended up seeing Kanye filling in. Still, the crowd at the Wireless Festival in London was all hyped to see the rapper.

But instead of treating his London fans to all his best right off the bat, West went into a 20-minute-long rant about fame, consumerism, and discrimination in the fashion industry.

You know, people be looking at me like I got a problem or something. Like I’m uncontrollable or something. Like I don’t do what I’m supposed to do. You know it’s like they want to have everybody so brainwashed. They want to control everybody, you know, rumors, lies, media, marketing. It’s like they want to steal you from you, and sell you back to you after they stole it. They want to make you feel like you less than who you really are…

Now believing in yourself is so, so, so wrong that the other side is so, so, so, so strong, they’re trying to beat down and demonize and dishumanize — I don’t know if that’s a word or not, but it’s now a word, cuz I said it’s a fucking word — and try to dishumanize people who believe in themselves…

And I’m telling you right now as I stand on this stage, all this shit that you heard me talking about, I’m gonna come and back all that shit up. You don’t know how hard it was to get the Nikes, that wasn’t my fault. They try to control y’all and try to control me. And when I was in my negotiations, they told me, “We don’t negotiate with celebrities.” That’s like a terrorist. They talk to you like it’s fucking terrorist.

You can watch the whole thing here, beginning at the 11:00 mark.

One person who attended the event said, “Kanye was laying into the ‘machine’ and ranting about the public’s perception of him. Hundreds of people left the park early because they were so bored of his long rant.”

One fan wrote to his friends: wrote: “If anyone is going to wireless tomorrow GET A REFUND! Kanye sings for 20 minutes then literally does a speech for 35 minutes!!”

On the other hand, some loved his performance.

  • Kanye West Booed After Onstage Rant

Kanye West Booed After Onstage Rant

Controversial rapper Kanye West was booed at the Wireless Festival in London on Friday, after going into a 20-minute rant in protest of the media during his set. West was filling in for Canadian singer Drake, who had fallen ill.

West, wearing a studded face mask, went on to share his views on the culture of fame, consumerism and discrimination in the fashion industry, and took jabs at Nike and Louis Vuitton. Concert goers booed loudly, and began to leave in droves.

The irascible West commented, “I’m not particularly angry but they’ve taken the idea of celebrity and tried to make me seem like I’m stupid or something. People keep looking at me like I got a problem or something, like I’m not doing something I’m meant to. The lies, the media, they want to make you feel like you’re less to them in their eye.”

West added, “I’m not going to mention any names but, Nike, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. Don’t discriminate against me ‘cos I’m a black man making music. Fuck saving face and what it’s supposed to mean, it’s about living my dream.”

Here is a clip of West’s rant in its entirety:

West was the headline act for the Wireless Festival, which included Ella Eyre, Foxes, Pharrell Williams, Bruno Mars, Robin Thicke and Salt-N-Pepa (?).

Fans who witnessed Kanye’s antics live weren’t too happy:

West married professional celebrity Kim Kardashian in Florence, Italy in May. The couple has a daughter together named North.

  • Gentrification: Spike Lee Explodes Into Expletive-Filled Rant

Famed film director Spike Lee burst into an expletive-filled rant when an audience member posed a question regarding the gentrification of the New York boroughs at an African-American History Month lecture on Tuesday held at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute.

Lee, who was raised in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, claims that it is no longer the same place he grew up in. Clad in a casual attire that included a “Defend Brooklyn” hoodie and a Knicks beanie, the “Do the Right Thing” director cut off the audience member after being asked about the “other side of gentrification”. He snapped “Let me kill you right now” and proceeded to discuss a New York Times article about the benefits of gentrification.

    http://youtu.be/61kq0RJJhY0

For seven minutes, Lee went on an impassioned rant about the drastic improvements that have taken place in many parts of New York ever since more white residents started moving in. His speech also expressed resentment toward the “Christopher Columbus Syndrome”, which he says is shown by the gradual eradication of the neighborhood’s customs and traditions, as well as the changing of some of the neighborhood’s names.

The audience member – Brooklyn resident and director of the Brooklyn Innovation Center, D.K. Smith – tried a few times to interject Lee’s rant, but was unsuccessful. The outspoken director appeared on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 to explain his tirade. Lee said that although he is not entirely opposed to new people inhabiting formerly poor areas, he believes that they ought to have “respect for the history and culture” when moving into the neighborhood.

CNN was able to speak with Smith regarding Lee’s claims and he said that while he does not completely disagree with Lee, he feels “tired of moaning and groaning about being black”. Smith, an African-American, also said that gentrification gives black Americans a huge opportunity for economic improvement by virtue of the skyrocketing real estate prices.

  • Erin Andrews Interview With Richard Sherman [Video]

After the NFC championship game on Sunday night, Erin Andrews, a veteran broadcaster, made her way to Richard Sherman, the Seattle Seahawks cornerback, for an interview. Andrews expected Sherman to be excited, considering they had just won their way to the Super Bowl, however all Sherman could talk, or yell rather, about was the San Francisco 49ers Michael Crabtree.

“I’m the best corner in the game! When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you’re going to get,” Sherman said, obviously upset. Andrews made the effort to calm Sherman down by asking him, “Who was talking about you?” However, despite her efforts, Sherman remained upset and continued his rant about Crabtree. “Crabtree. Don’t you ever talk about me. Don’t you open your mouth about the best, or I’ll shut it for you real quick,” he yelled at the camera.

Andrews didn’t appear to get intimidate by Sherman’s behavior, and later took to Twitter to talk about the interview. “Richard Sherman gave a candid response seconds after an emotional game..looking forward to a great Super Bowl matchup,” she tweeted.

Many other Twitter users took to their accounts to react to Sherman’s interview, including Sherman. “A lion doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of a sheep,” he tweeted, and then later added: “There was a lot of talk before the game…. Now I’m the bad guy lol…. Well if u judge my character on the field ….So many glass houses.”

  • Adam Levine Calls out Lady Gaga in Twitter Rant

Maroon 5’s Adam Levine obviously feels some kind of way about the ‘fame monster,’ Lady Gaga. On Friday, Levine allegedly took to Twitter to state his level of disdain in regards to the musicianship and artistry of her craft.

While his insults weren’t blatant, his words were more than enough to raise speculation that he was taking aim at Gaga. Perhaps Gaga’s ‘Little Monsters’ took offense to his rant, and brought it to her attention or she just happened to notice. Either way, ‘Mother Monster’ must have felt the tinge of resentment, as she felt more than obliged to respond.

Levine kicked off his subliminal rant when he tweeted:

Gaga wasted little time responding to Levine’s underlying criticism in a subliminal tweet of her own:

While the low-key rant remained latent, the release of Gaga’s latest video, “Applause” put Levine’s comments into perspective proving his evasive criticism was definitely about her. In the new video, she makes several references to famous works of art including, “The Birth of Venus,” a notable painting by Sandro Botticelli.

It took him a while, but three days later, Levine decided to reply to the 27-year-old “Judas,” singer:

Lady Gaga has yet to tweet another response.

Since this isn’t the first jab taken at Gaga with the same allegation, it’s definitely justifiable for her to be in defense mode. Azealia Banks has also accused the “Bad Romance” singer of stealing the name of Banks’ track entitled, “Red Flame.” Gaga has also been compared to Madonna on a number of occasions, being accused of releasing newer versions of some of Madonna’s old work. Critics have often compared Gaga’s “Born this Way,” to Madonna’s “Express Yourself,” released in 1989. But regardless of what people think, Gaga has a proven track record of success in the music industry. The numbers definitely don’t lie.

  • Teyana Taylor Blasts Rihanna on Twitter, Things Get Out of Hand

First lady of G.O.O.D. Music, Teyana Taylor became one of the most controversial topics of today after verbal shots were fired between her and Rihanna earlier today on Twitter. According to BET, this particular Twitter rant began with an Instagram video posted two weeks ago. Taylor posted a 15-second Instagram video singing her own rendition of Anita Baker’s “Caught Up in the Rapture.”

Then, on September 24, Rihanna posted a video of her own on Instagram account. Rihanna’s parody video featured her male hairstylist wearing a wig exasperatingly performing the same Anita Baker record. While the song itself immediately drew speculation of a diss, what her hairstylist wore was a tell-tale sign that the video was definitely about Taylor. Dressed with a wig and a ‘snap-back’ hat, he paraded around dancing in a way that was supposed to look choreographed — or like a show Teyana Taylor would put on.

In response to the parody video, Taylor took the liberty of firing back in her own parody, which has since been removed from her Instagram account. Her video ‘diss’ came in the form of a comical version of Rihanna’s hit record, “We Found Love.” Then, if the video war wasn’t enough, Taylor decided to go a step further moving the battle to the verbal platform, Twitter. This was where things took a very interesting turn. With the vast number of expletives, the verbal attack became relentless.

When Taylor received no response from the “Pour it Up” singer, she forged on to conclude her thoughts:

Just when Taylor thought the rant was over, Rihanna took the liberty of chiming in with her own jabs. Then, the firing tweets went back and forth:

Rihanna went on to tweet, “I REFUSE to help your career…you will NOT get an @ from me! Not til you pay me! #nomorefreepromo #iRefuse.” However, this tweet has been removed from the singer’s timeline.

The tweet was rather evasive, as Rihanna didn’t direct the tweet toward anyone in particular. However, it soon became clear she was definitely firing at Taylor. She decided to step things up and take the rant to an unprecedented level. Changing her Twitter header, Rihanna decided to play ‘compare and contrast’ embedding two comparative images from CelebrityNetWorth.com. The two images showed her net worth in comparison to Taylor’s.

     Taylor responded with another rant:

Taylor also took one last blow at Rihanna posting an extremely obscene tweet which, of course, was later removed from her timeline. It read: “90 million dollars & 90 million n—-s diving in that b—h box.” The statement was meant to make a vile reference between the number in the singer’s net worth and how it defines her alleged level of promiscuity. Lastly, Taylor changed her Twitter header in response to Rihanna’s. She placed a altered version of she and Rihanna in a boxing match, using the picture of the singer that was taken after her 2009 altercation with Chris Brown.

Due to the nature of the dialogue, a number of the tweets have since been deleted by both parties. In most cases, when verbal conflicts get out of hand on Twitter, public relations representatives step in and impose more professional etiquette. However, the damage had already been done.

  • Bo Pelini Apologizes for Rant Against Fans in 2011

For the first time in over 40 years, Nebraska Huskers football may not sell-out Memorial Stadium. Why, you ask? Yesterday, Deadspin.com released an audio recording (NSFW) of Bo Pelini speaking to reporters right before a press conference following a come-from-behind victory against Ohio State. Despite the fact that Nebraska scored 28 points in a row to erase a 20-6 halftime deficit and win the game, Pelini still wasn’t pleased. In particular, he was not pleased with the fans.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qycehfCvBTc

Pelini starts by tearing into some reporters whom he had a particular beef with. Then, however, he goes on to let the fans have it as well:

“It took everything in my power to not say, ‘F*ck you, fans. F*ck all of you.’ F*ck ‘em,” he said. “Our crowd. What a bunch of f*cking fair-weather f*cking — they can all kiss my [butt] out the f*cking door. ‘Cause the day is f*cking coming now. We’ll see what they can do when I’m f*cking gone. I’m so f*cking p*ssed off.”

Unfortunately for Pelini, this was not the only negative attention he has received lately. Following Saturday’s 41-21 loss against UCLA (in which the Bruins scored 38 consecutive points) Tommy Frazier, former quarterback of the 1994-95 undefeated Huskers team, criticized the performance of Pelini and his coaching staff:

It’s time to get rid of the defensive play caller, the Dc, lb dl and db coaches. I hate saying this but this crap is getting old. How in the hell do you not make adjustments or put your players in the position to compete? If this is what is going to happen for the remainder of the season, count me out. I don’t care if we lose a game but the way we are losing is just not what #Nebraska fans deserve.

In full-Pelini style, Bo released a statement in response, saying that “If he feels that way, so be it. We don’t need him.”

Following the release of the profanity-laden rant, Pelini released the following apology:

“I want to sincerely apologize for my comments from two years ago which became public today. I take full responsibility for these comments. They were spoken in a private room following the Ohio State game. I was venting following a series of emotional events which led to this moment. That being said, these comments are in no way indicative of my true feelings. I love it here in Nebraska and feel fortunate to be associated with such a great University and fan base. I again apologize to anyone whom I have offended.”

Since the recording has been released, there have been many irate reactions on the internet, many of which have been calling for Pelini to be fired. At the current moment, there may be many valid reasons for Pelini to be fired. Since his hiring, the Huskers have gone 51-21, a respectable number. However, many fans still feel that this is not good enough for a program with such outstanding history of success.

That being said, this rant does not necessitate firing Pelini. As the man said, this was a conversation that happened after a frustrating game in which many emotions were to be had. Also worth noting is that Pelini did not make this rant on record. It was recorded by someone privately. Pelini had no idea that this tirade would ever become public knowledge. The NCAA and Nebraska would have to be fairly petty institutions for firing someone due to a private cursing-fest. Football is a game filled with strong emotions, and the guys who coach and play football are not perfectly polished gentleman; they are raw and will act accordingly.

Perhaps the best perspective and commentary on the incident comes in a report from Dan Wetzel from Yahoo! Sports. In this report, Wetzel details all of the ways in which Pelini improves college football beyond the field. Pelini’s thoughts concerning playing Penn State immediately after the troubling news concerning Jerry Sandusky was uncovered show how much he intimately cares and his players and their livelihoods. Perhaps even more touching was Pelini’s handling of the annual spring game, in which he invited Jack Hoffman, a 7 year old kid who suffers from brain tumors and seizures, to the game and allowed him to score a touchdown against the Nebraska defense.

These are the moments we should be focusing on when looking at Pelini’s career; not a privately held, expletive-filled rant stemming from an emotional day. Despite how one feels about his win-loss record, it is evident that Pelini is a man who deserves to be coaching at a high-profile school in the national spotlight. Let’s hope that more coaches like Pelini surface on the national scene in the future.

  • Bieber Meltdown on Twitter Lashes Out Against “Fake Stories”

Justin Bieber has been having a tough time in London. Stories about the pop star going around London shirtless after a concert and arriving late to another London show because of “diva-like behavior” (including a backstage “tantrum”) began popping up earlier this month.

Now, it appears that Bieber has had enough of the British tabloid culture and is letting them have a piece of his mind via Twitter.

The pop star tweeted out a dozen different tweets on March 6, railing against “rumors,” “fake stories,” and the public judgment he faces on a daily basis.

Here’s the entire rant, in full:

[Author’s comment: Though the language in this next tweet leaves things up to interpretation, it’s worth noting that Bieber is, presumably, referring to religious beliefs and not to a dominant/submissive relationship with another man.]

No doubt Bieber’s 35.5 million Twitter followers will back up his sentiments, if they can manage to figure what his point was. Bieber himself, on the other hand, will have to continue to live under the scrutiny that comes with having the celebrity to garner that many Twitter followers.

  • Allen Iverson ‘We’re Talkin’ About Practice” Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

I can’t believe it, we’re sitting here talking about practice. Not the ‘game’ that Allen Iverson died for, and played every one like it was his last…10 years ago. Yes, take a moment to let that last bit sink in. It has been a decade since Allen Iverson became frustrated about a reporter’s question regarding Larry Brown criticizing Allen Iverson over missing team practices. At the time, the 76ers had just lost to Boston in a hard fought five game series, which nobody really remembers. We all remember this press conference segment, however…

It had been awhile since I’d seen the video, and I have to say it holds up well and is definitely on the list of greatest sports rants ever, if not THE greatest. There have been videos released which have counted how many times “practice” was uttered in his rant; if you’re curious, it’s more than twenty.

Twitter has come alive with reactions to the ten year anniversary, ranging everywhere from comical, to supporting Iverson, to criticizing the former superstar.

Racist Facebook Rant Leads To Suspension

Little League President and coach John Kelly of Westside youth baseball in Oak Lawn, Illinois was benched and suspended recently for bashing Whitney Houston. Kelly’s racist rant on Facebook was in regard to the incessant media coverage of Whitney Houston’s death that was appearing on his personal Facebook page.

Kelly’s Facebook post read, in part, “I’m sick of reading about this dumb stupid N – – – – – Whitney Houston.” A Westside baseball mom (who refuses to be identified publicly) happened to see it on Kelly’s Facebook page and decided to repost it on the Westside baseball league’s Facebook page and her own. She shared the President’s comment because of her worry about how he would react to African-American players in the league.
