  • Sylvester Stallone: Frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor for “Creed,” Will He Finally Win?

Sylvester Stallone is a frontrunner in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Creed at tonight’s Oscars. Do you expect the Rocky star will finally score a big win?

After winning a Golden Globe for his role as the “Italian Stallion” in Creed, he joked that Rocky Balboa is his imaginary friend.

“I want to thank my imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had,” Sylvester Stallone said.

If Stallone wins at the Oscars, it will be quite a comeback story. He’s got some pretty stiff competition, however. In order to go home with the gold, he’ll have to beat out some Hollywood A-listers, including Mark Ruffalo, Christian Bale, and Tom Hardy.

    Can he do it?

In addition to the Rocky films, Sylvester Stallone is best known for his Rambo franchise. He also tried his hand at comedy in Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.

ABC News calls Sylvester Stallone’s role in Creed, “maybe the actor’s finest, most complicated work yet.”

    But is it enough?

Will you be tuning in to the Oscars–the 88th Academy Awards–on Sunday evening? The show airs on the ABC network, with Live from the Red Carpet airing at 7:00 p.m. ET, and the awards show beginning at 8:30. Chris Rock is hosting.

Will 2016 be the year Sylvester Stallone takes home an Oscar?

Fans will have to tune in to see.

  • Sylvester Stallone Will Not Be Involved in Fox ‘Rambo’ Series Despite Claims

Sylvester Stallone will not be involved in the developing Fox series Rambo: New Blood despite previous claims by the network.

In its initial release about the new series, Fox said that Stallone would be an executive producer on the show and that he might reprise his role from the 1982 series. Since then, Entertainment Weekly reported that Stallone will not be involved.

“Contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone has opted not to participate in the planned Rambo television series in any way at all,” a rep also confirmed to Deadline. “I wish the others well with the project,” added Stallone.

One has to wonder if the earlier announcement by Fox was just the means to find the, well, means to bring the proposal to the small screen. Now, the actor’s absence from the project could be the end of the project before it ever really made some traction.

According to Deadline, the plan was for the series to focus on the relationship between Stallone’s iconic character of John Rambo and his son. Needless to say, without Stallone, that plan is an impossibility and to get the ball rolling, a new premise will need to be be conceived.

As Fox ponders its options, Stallone meanwhile has received recent critical acclaim for reprising another one of his famous roles: Rocky Balboa in Creed. It would seem, as EW points out, that Sylvester Stallone is all for revisiting the past, but only for projects that suit him.

  • ‘Rambo: The Video Game’ Coming to Europe in February

As bad as the new Rambo video game looks, Reef Entertainment has certainly been proactive in promoting it. The publisher has released numerous trailers for the game, including new gameplay clips showing that it is, in fact, an on-rails shooter with quicktime events thrown in for the “stealth” moments.

Today Reef announced that the official release date for Rambo: The Video Game will be February 21 in Europe. The game will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on that date. A subsequent release for “North America & Canada” (that’s seriously how the announcement reads) will be coming sometime during the first quarter of 2014, though the game will only be on PlayStation 3 and PC in those territories.

In addition to the release date, Reef has revealed that the game’s developer is already working on a DLC expansion for the title. As the core game is set to recount the events of First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rambo III, this content will presumably have something to do with the 2008 Rambo movie. That, or zombies.

Reef today also revealed that they will be using every bit of the Rambo license that they can. The video game will use voice tracks from the Rambo movies, as well as “selected music” from the trilogy. As a preview of what players might hear during the game, here is the “cinematic teaser” for the game. That is to say, 50 seconds of clips from Rambo movies:

  • That “Rambo” Rail Shooter Gets Yet Another Trailer

Back in July of 2013, Reef Entertainment announced Rambo: The Video Game alongside a suitably action-packed reveal trailer. The publisher promised “shoot-outs, stealth killings, demolition, knife-play, and more,” but the game itself looked like it was made for the PlayStation 2.

As more videos for the game emerged, it became clear that Rambo is an on-rails shooter (think Time Crisis or The House of the Dead) and that these action-packed moments would generally be played in the form of quick-time events.

Today Reef released yet another trailer for Rambo: The Video Game. This one is similar to a movie action trailer with plenty of cut scenes, gunfire, and explosions.

Those who have seen the game’s previous trailers will notice that this new video shows a game that is slightly better-looking than the one seen previously. It seems that the game’s developer has improved its visuals in the run-up to launch, most noticeably Rambo’s character model.

Still, it won’t be the acceptably lush jungle visuals that gamers come to Rambo: The Video Game for. It will be the action, and with the action in Rambo limited to point-and-shoot and quicktime events, the gaming world is likely to forget the game quickly after a few amusing “let’s play” videos.

  • Rambo: The Video Game Gets Another Trailer

Rambo: The Video Game Gets Another Trailer

It would have been easy to forget that Rambo: The Video Game was unveiled back in July. The game’s first trailer was met with scorn for its dated visuals and lack of gameplay. In the months since then gamers have been treated to plenty next-gen game footage that makes Rambo seem like a joke.

However, the game is still alive and publisher Reef Entertainment has been working on the game ever since (though the game’s release date seems to have been pushed back to early 2014 from it’s original launch window of sometime this winter). In fact, Reef is offering gamers the chance to get a limited edition bobble head-looking Rambo figure for pre-ordering the game.

A second trailer for Rambo was released today, showcasing the gameplay fans can expect when the game is released. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that the game’s visuals have improved in the past few months:

As the trailer shows, Rambo: The Video Game will cover the first three theatrical Rambo movies – First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rambo III.

If the lack of gameplay in this gameplay trailer seems confusing, keep in mind that Rambo is being billed as a “fixed perspective” first-person shooter. In layman’s terms, this means most of the game will probably be an on-rails shooter resembling older arcade games such as Time Crisis or The House of the Dead. In addition to the obvious machine gunning, the game is touted as offering “stealth killings” and “knife-play.”

  • Rambo: The Video Game On-Rails FPS Announced

Not since the 80s have gamers been able to step into the shoes of the iconic John Rambo. Even then, the 1985 Commodore 64 game Rambo and Rambo for the NES did not inspire the same type of reverence Sylvester Stallone‘s movie character did. Now, with decades of the video game industry filled with the type of stealth and over-the-top shooter experiences that seem perfect for the Rambo character, one publisher is finally taking a chance on the franchise.

Reef Entertainment this week released a first look trailer for the upcoming Rambo: The Video Game. It seems the game will be a “fixed perspective” first-person shooter, meaning it will be on rails similar to arcade games such as The House of the Dead or Area 51. Unfortunately, the visuals seem to match the archaic game design:

The game is based on the first three Rambo movies – First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rambo III. Reef promises “shoot-outs, stealth killings, demolition, knife-play, and more,” though the trailer doesn’t adequately show how these will fit into gameplay. Regardless of its quality, Rambo: The Video Game will be headed to both consoles and PC sometime this winter.

  • Rambo: The Video Game Looks A Little Dated

Rambo: The Video Game Looks A Little Dated

In the video game industry, striking while the iron is hot is nowhere near as important as the strike being one of quality. Don’t tell that to those who oversee the Call of Duty franchise, mind you. With that in mind, the idea of video game dedicated to the violent undertakings of John Rambo is fertile ground waiting to be plowed, and that’s what just what Reef Entertainment is trying to do with Rambo: The Video Game. A couple of days ago, they released a gameplay trailer, which gives us a great idea of how things are progressing.

Presented in the familiar first person shooter format, the Rambo game certainly has a lot of ground it can cover, which is apparently the goal of the publishers. The trailer shows our hero in locations from each of the theatrical installments. The question is, why do the cutscenes look so, well, dated? Take a look for yourself:

While the graphics on the gameplay look fine–a great FPS doesn’t need vast, detailed open worlds if the action delivers–but the quality of the cutscene-based action is not up to par with modern console/PC capabilities. Again, it’s quite possible, if not common, for a game to overcome graphical shortcomings, but the cartoon-like quality in the Rambo trailer was a little unexpected. Maybe the developers are concentrating on giving us a game that effectively puts the player in the shoes of John Rambo when he’s going up against a team of Spetsnaz, or a redneck police officer who doesn’t like drifters.

That appears to be Reef Entertainment’s goal:

According to publisher Reef Entertainment, the game will be “triple-A” quality and intends to “capture the gritty atmosphere and full-on action which made the Rambo movies so successful.” To do so, Rambo: The Video Game will be based on the three original movies and feature “shoot-outs, stealth killings, demolition, knife-play and more.”

It should be noted the publishers’ track record includes games like Liquidator 2 for the PC and Sniper Elite for the Wii. Does that improve the outlook for Rambo: The Video Game?
