  • Minecraft Coming to PS4, Retail For PS3

Minecraft Coming to PS4, Retail For PS3

Ever since its release in 2009, Minecraft has grown to become one of the biggest gaming phenomenons in history. The popular multiplayer sandbox game regularly tops sales charts for every platform it appears on, including mobile devices, where Minecraft Pocket Edition is a best-selling title despite it costing $7.

Most recently Minecraft came to the PlayStation 3, shooting up sales charts once again. Until now Minecraft for PS3 had been available only through Sony’s PlayStation Store ad a digital download. That will all change next month.

Sony and Minecraft development studio Mojang today announced that Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will be coming to retail stores in the U.S. and Europe. The game will be available on a Blu-ray disc starting May 14 in Europe and on May 16 in North America.

The retail version of Minecraft for PS3 will have all of the same features of the downloadable version, including split-screen multiplayer. The game will come with all the updates for the title up to update 14. This means that items such as potatoes, Emeralds, and more will be available right out of the box, which will look like this:

    Minecraft PS3 box art

All of these features and more are previewed in a new video released by Sony today highlighting the PlaySation 3 version of Minecraft:

In addition to the PS3 retail release of Minecraft, Sony today also teased that the game is still being developed for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. Those ports are being developed by 4J Studios, the Scottish development studio that has handled the Minecraft ports for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

  • No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either! Hits PS Vita Today

The No Heroes Allowed franchise has been a big hit since the PSP days with its humorous take on villainy and Dungeon Keeper-esque gameplay. Now the series has returned on the PS Vita in a decidedly different format.

Sony announced today that No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either! will be out on PS Vita today. The free-to-play game tasks players with stopping the heroes from invading Badman’s stronghold through match-3 gameplay. As you might expect from a free-to-play game, it does feature the usual pay-to-win mechanics by letting players pay real money to get power boosts, increase their monster’s digging power or even expand their lodgings.

The latest game in the franchise does offer some other new features beyond the new match-3 puzzle gameplay:

No Puzzles Either! offers a good mix of gameplay from the previous games in the series, with additional features including a multiplayer mode where four players can battle against heroes in AdHoc mode. Gather your friends and play powerful combos to feel the thrill of defeating strong heroes.

Also, keep an eye out for special community events. Winners of these events will be rewarded with rare, stronger monsters that can be added to their monster collections. We’re happy to announce that all of these new features are free to access, as well.

No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either! should be available on the PS Vita later today when the PSN updates.

  • Sony Bringing Freedom Wars And More To PS Vita In North America

After a rocky launch and an even rockier first year, the PS Vita is finally finding its footing. While Sony’s handheld will never be able to catch up to the 3DS at this rate, it’s still a great machine for those who love Japanese games. Sony knows this and has answered in the form of announcing the localization of three Japanese games.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that it’s bringing Soul Sacrifice Delta, Freedom Wars and Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines to North America this year. The first two have been oft requested titles while the third is a complete surprise. Still, all three represent more games for PS Vita owners.

Staring off, Soul Sacrifice Delta is a sequel of sorts to the original. The story and conceit is still the same, but Delta packs in a lot of new content and features making this the definitive version of Soul Sacrifice.

Soul Sacrifice Delta is the ultimate edition of Soul Sacrifice with tons of new content and improvements. Grim, the faction who believes in neutrality in all things, joins the blood thirsty Avalon and the merciful Sanctuary, and adds a third angle to bring the Delta in Soul Sacrifice. Grim’s beliefs, rooted in the prophecy they will seek to realise, will bring about irrevocable changes to the world as we know it.

Moving on, Freedom Wars is another hunting style game, but with a decidedly fascinating premise. Players take on the role of a prisoner sentenced to live one million years from the day of their birth. They can shorten this sentence by completing various quests and it even includes 8-player multiplayer over ad-hoc and online.

Finally, Sony announced out of left field that it’s localizing Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines. It’s a traditional JRPG with a bit of a twist:

In case you haven’t guessed it by now it’s an RPG in which you take charge of an ancient Japanese clan that have been cursed with a maximum lifespan of just 2 years. Your task is to lead the clan on their quest to lift the curse and enlist the help of gods inspired by Japanese mythology to make sure each new generation of the clan is more powerful than the last.

There is no English trailer for the game just yet, but here’s a Japanese trailer for the title that will give you an idea of how it looks and plays:

All three games will be out later this year. Now those complaining about the PS Vita only getting indies and ports can finally find some solace in these titles.

  • Futuridium EP Deluxe Announced For The PS4

Last week, Sony announced that it had 1,000 licensed developers making games for the PS4. Now those developers are announcing indie projects left and right for Sony’s new console. The latest is an enhanced port of a previously announced PS Vita title.

MixedBag announced today on the PlayStation Blog that its bringing Futuridium EP Deluxe – a super colorful space shooter – to the PS4 this year. The team says they decided to bring the previously PS Vita exclusive game to the PS4 after gamers asked for a PS4 version following the initial reveal. The team says they got in touch with PlayStation Europe and made the PS4 version a reality.

So, what is Futuridium EP Deluxe? Here’s how the developers describe it:

For the readers not familiar with the game, Futuridium EP Deluxe is a fast, old-school shooter inspired mainly by the 8-bit classic Uridium, with an added hint of Zaxxon. Shake all that up in low-poly graphics, topped by a ton of fullscreen post processing effects, and served ice cold for your cube blasting pleasure. As a lone starship pilot lost in a dimensional loop with a depleting energy bar, you’ll encounter endless waves of giant space dreadnoughts. Your only hope? Destroy the blue energy cubes on them to refill your tank and expose the main power core, which must be destroyed to move on to the next ship.

While the game will have the same gameplay features across both the PS4 and PS Vita, the PS4 version will benefit from the following:

  • 1080p in glorious 60 frames per second
  • Even more dazzling visual effects thanks to the PS4′s added power
  • Leaderboards shared with the PS Vita version
  • Cool DualShock 4 features
  • Full sharing support so you can stream your best run
  • Simultaneous PS Vita / PS4 launch
  • Cross buy
  • To coincide with the announcement, MixedBag has put together a trailer showcasing what the game looks like running on the PS4:

Futuridium EP Deluxe will be out later this year.

  • Borderlands 2 PS Vita Bundle Launches May 6, Standalone Game Hits May 13

Earlier this year, Sony announced that the new slim PS Vita would be launching this Spring alongside a version of Borderlands 2 built just for the device. Well, Sony has held to their part of the bargain and announced that both will be hitting retail next month.

Sony announced today that the Borderlands 2 PS Vita bundle will be hitting stores on May 6 for $199.99. The bundle includes the new slimmer PS Vita, a copy of Borderlands 2 on the Vita and an 8GB memory stick. Sony also notes that the new PS Vita includes 1GB of built in memory so you’ll be able to store your save games on the internal memory instead of the memory stick. That should leave a bit more space to save a few more PSP and PS Vita games on the memory stick.

As for Borderlands 2 on the Vita, the game is a straight port of the console and PC versions. Sony says that no content from the main game has been cut in the transition to the Vita. They even managed to squeeze in some of the DLC, including Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty and Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage. The Mechromancer and Psycho character classes will also be available from the start. As for the other DLC campaigns, nothing has been mentioned. It’s assumed that it will be released as post-release content.

The game also features cross play support so you’ll be able to transfer your saves from Borderlands 2 on the PS3 to the PS Vita version and back again. If you’re one of those people who travels a lot, this is undeniably good news for you.

If you already own a Vita and just want Borderlands 2, the standalone game will launch a week later on May 13.

  • Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Is Just More Hotline Miami (And That’s Not A Bad Thing)

Hotline Miami came out of nowhere two years ago and became one of the best games of 2012. The top down action game demanded lightning quick reflexes from its players and it rewarded them with the best cathartic violence ever seen in a video game. Now the developers are working on a sequel and it looks like more of the same wonderful over-the-top violence we expect from the series.

Devolver Digital shared a new trailer for Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number today that shows off some of the new gameplay and guns found in the sequel. The first thing you’ll notice in the trailer is that players can now dual wield guns. This will allow players to walk down hallways and fire in two separate directions to take down goons coming at both sides. While the trailer does make it seem like co-op will added in the sequel, the developers say that’s not the case. On the official Twitter account, the devs state that they’re adding two new characters – the Swans. They’re a brother/sister pair that players control at the same time.

Alongside the gameplay, we’re also treated to what makes Hotline Miami so wonderful – the music. Without the thumping electro soundtrack, Hotline Miami’s presentation wouldn’t be half as effective. The music, visuals and violence coalesce into the kind of violence simulators that we were always warned about growing up. Check it out:

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will be out in Q3 2014 for PC, PS4 and PS Vita.

  • PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Still Kicking, Gets Balance Update

Remember PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale? The Smash Bros.-like brawler featuring Sony’s stable of characters was certainly piqued our interest when it was first unveiled, but interest in the title has since pretty much fizzled out. Well, Sony can’t have that, and has been working on a title update that will hopefully bring players back to the game.

Sony announced today that a balance update for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is available to download. The patch – called the “Ultimate Balance Update” – promises over 100 balance adjustments to the game. These adjustments affect the overall game as well as individual characters. For example, throw attempts have been standardized to “9 startup frames, 3 active frames, and 18 recovery frames.” The air dodge has also been standardized to “27 invincible frames followed by 9 vulnerable frames (previously 29 invincible plus 7 vulnerable).”

Alongside all the fixes, the update unlocks the third costume for Zeus and Isaac. Both DLC characters were added in early 2013 and were both promised a third costume that never came. Well, it’s finally here and you can get them with the latest update.

If all of this still isn’t enough for you, Sony also announced that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be making a return to tournament play this Spring:

Finally, we’ve partnered with fighting game community powerhouse Level-Up Series for a Spring Tournament at The Runback. This is a 10-week, offline tournament at Super Arcade here in Southern California, and will be live streamed weekly on twitch.tv/leveluplive on the road to the finale. The season grand prize is a PS4, and awesome PlayStation All-Stars community notoriety.

If you want to see some of the updates in action, here’s a trailer:

You can grab the ultimate balance update today. Just pop in your copy of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and the download should start automatically.

  • Stealth Inc Goes Free For PlayStation Plus Members Tomorrow

Last week, Sony announced April’s batch of free games for PlayStation Plus members. While the biggest draw was definitely Mercenary Kings on PS4, there were a number of great games for PS3 and PS Vita as well. This week, PS3 and PS Vita owners can get their hands on one of last year’s biggest indie hits.

Sony announced this morning that Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark (formerly known as Stealth Bastard) will be the free game this week. It’s a cross buy title available on both the PS3 and PS Vita so owning one will net you the other free of charge.

For those not in the know, Stealth Inc is a stealth platformer that challenges players to make their way through a research facility without being seen. There’s nothing else quite like it out there as platformers tend to shy away from stealth for pretty obvious reasons. Stealth Inc seems to have nailed a nice harmony between the two gameplay styles though. Here’s the official synopsis:

Stealth Inc is a fast-paced stealth platformer featuring brutal hazards, ruthless enemies, fiendish puzzles and red pixels galore. Jump, sneak, and be chunked through 80 levels. Will you make it out alive? Armed with only your wits and a pair of top of the range Stealthing Goggles, it’s your job to sneak your way through a deadly facility that’s determined to extinguish your fragile little life. With no weapons and no armour, being seen means instant death.

If you need to see more, here’s a trailer of the game in action:

Alongside Stealth Inc going free, PlayStation Plus members will also get a discount on tomorrow’s new PS4 game – Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut. The game will normally retail for $19.99, but Plus members will get it for $15.99 instead.

Finally, Sony notes that Dyad will be leaving the Instant Games Collection tomorrow. If you have yet to pick up the psychedelic Tempest clone, you’d better do it today.

  • Minecraft Gets Uncharted, Killzone Skins On PS3

Minecraft on consoles is a great experience, but it does lose a bit in the transition. Case in point – the numerous mods available on the PC version of the game just aren’t possible on consoles. To make up for that, Microsoft began releasing character skins based on their most popular franchises for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft. Now Sony is doing the same for the PS3 version.

Mojang announced this morning that the PS3 version of Minecraft will soon get two new character skin packs. The first skin pack features characters from PlayStation’s recent past, including characters from Heavy Rain, Uncharted, Killzone and Sly Cooper. The other pack – Battle and Beasts – is a little more generic and features “koalas, a Cleopatra look-a-like, various cavemen, and an octopus.”

Alongside the character skin packs, Minecraft for PS3 will also be getting two new texture packs – City and Plastic:

For those of you who aren’t content with the classic Minecraft styling, two new texture packs are also launching. The City Texture pack is perfect for the modernist Minecrafter; it’ll give your creations a more clean, clinical look. The Plastic Texture pack makes things look a lot more, erm, plasticy.

Mojang notes that Minecraft for PS3 also received a pretty hefty update last week. The update added a number of new features to the game, including emeralds, pumpkin pie, nether quartz, new zombie mobs, new terrains and a lot more. If you want to see all the new features, check out this post on the Minecraft forums.

As for the PS4 and PS Vita versions of Minecraft, Mojang says that they still don’t have a date for either version. They also don’t know if the game will support Cross Buy when it launches. If not, those who purchased the PS3 version of Minecraft will have to buy it again when it launches on the PS4. Finally, they confirmed that the PS4 version won’t feature keyboard and mouse support, but claim that it plays just fine on the DualShock 4.

  • Destiny Of Spirits Out Today On PS Vita

Destiny Of Spirits Out Today On PS Vita

Have you been itching for a new free-to-play RPG? If so, you might be getting just what you want on the Vita.

Sony announced today that Destiny of Spirits, a free-to-play location-based RPG, will be out today on the PlayStation Vita. The game has players summoning spirits to do battle with and against players from all over the world. Players will also be able to rent and trade spirits with other players.

    Here’s how the game works:

In Destiny of Spirits, the world contains three types of magical substances: Spirit Points, Summoning Stones and Destiny Orbs. Spirit Points are earned after battles and can be used to rent other player’s Spirits, merge Spirits to level up, and trade Spirits with other players. Summoning Stones are also earned through battles and you can use these to summon Spirits. Destiny Orbs are available for purchase on PlayStation Store. Some features require Destiny Orbs like Advanced Summon, Rare Summon, restoring a Spirit’s health, and other features at the Shop.

As you can see, free-to-play game design is strong with Destiny of Spirits. While it’s technically possible to enjoy most of what the game has to offer for free, you’re going to have to spend money to get the most out of it.

Speaking of spending money, you’ll have to spend some cash to unlock the first rare summon – Knack. Sony says Knack is just the first of many PlayStation characters being added to the game as rare summons. If you want to see more, you’ll just have to keep playing.

Destiny of Spirits will be available once the PlayStation Store updates today.

  • PS Vita To Receive Update 3.10 Today

PS Vita To Receive Update 3.10 Today

The PS Vita is turning into quite the handy portable games console. Even if you don’t use all the features on the device (like the email app), it’s still a daily companion for some of us. Now Sony is making it even better with a new firmware update.

Sony announced today that the PS Vita firmware will be updated to version 3.10 today. The latest update will bring with it a number of new features, including an increase in the app limit. The increase should be especially helpful for those who have a large memory stick.

Here’s the full list of updates:

  • You can now display up to 500 applications on the home screen.
  • A Calendar application has been added for PS Vita, allowing you to set up gaming events with your friends. Sync your Google calendar to have all your events with you on your PS Vita. You can also share your favorite events by using the Messages and Email applications.
  • A new “Manage Content on Memory Card” option has been added to the Content Manager application. You can now view the data on your memory card, making it easier than ever to manage content on your PS Vita. You can now view memory usage by content type, and delete content and applications.
  • You can now send and receive voice messages using the Messages application on PS Vita. Exchange voice messages with your friends and players on PS4 and PS Vita.
  • The new PS Vita update is pretty awesome, but what about that promised PS4 update? According to Sony, it’s coming soon. The update will add many of the media features that were missing at launch as well as the ability to turn off HDCP encryption for those who want to record gameplay through external capture devices. The next PS4 update might also include emulation support:

    Be excited: 1. Local PS2 / PS1 support on PS4 w/ native 1080p rendering for select titles. 2. Bluray+Media Player updates

    — Ahsan Rasheed (@thuway) March 25, 2014

For now, however, just look forward to being able to stuff over 100 applications onto your Vita.

  • Hyper Light Drifter Looks Like A 2D Dark Souls

The retro look is starting to get old. It peaked with Sword & Swocery, and has been going downhill since. Now Heart Machine has come to the rescue with a new retro-inspired title that’s absolutely gorgeous.

Heart Machine announced today that its Kickstarter-funded RPG Hyper Light Drifter would be coming to the PS4 and PS Vita this year. The game is a top-down 2D RPG with a highly stylized look reminiscent of titles like Sword & Sworcery and Fez. It also has a dark, foreboding atmosphere that makes it feel like a 2D Dark Souls.

For those worried about that comparison, don’t be. Hyper Light Drifter promises fast, fluid combat that’s challenging, but never unfair. In the game, players will be using guns, swords and magic to deal with foes as they explore a variety of environments that are all interconnected.

As for the story, the team at Heart Machine want to create a story that’s told without text. Here’s how they plan on doing it:

We are wary of endless blocks of text, poorly designed UI, and explicit handholding, which can often dilute a great experience. These leave a player frustrated, or worse, disinterested. Instead, we want players to uncover the rich mythology along with the Drifter in a more organic way, with a narrative that’s not explicit. We chose to recognize that players are smart.

We keep the systems management as straightforward as possible, with zero visible UI elements that don’t relate to the world itself. This helps to keep the player immersed and focused on the moments and constantly unfolding story in the world, rather than on numbers, bars and maps.

Dialogue and quests are presented in storyboardlike sequences, which convey a specific mood without the use of text or voiceovers. This also allows us to keep the game as visually lush as possible and break past language barriers.

Oh, and it looks absolutely stunning in motion:

Hyper Light Drifter will be out on PS4 and PS Vita later this year.

  • Race The Sun Announced For PS3, PS4 And Vita

Last year, indie dev Flippfly introduced the world to Race the Sun – a procedurally generated racing game for PC. Now they’re bringing it to Sony’s platforms.

Flippfly announced today that that they’re bringing Race the Sun to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita this summer. The unique racing game promises speed in it most distilled form as players race against an ever setting sun in a solar powered plane. Once the sun goes out, you’re done.

Like most indie PC darlings, Race the Sun will get some new features on its move to Sony platforms. For starters, the developers will be adding new levels to the game. They will also be adding in cross buy and cross save support so players only have to buy the game once to own it across all three platforms.

Race the Sun is just the latest indie game to be hitting Sony’s platforms this year. As AAA releases become rarer, you’re going to one day thank your lucky stars that so many indie titles are releasing on console platforms now. It’s a nice way to pass the time between releases, and some of these indie titles are oftentimes on par with or even better than the major studio releases.

  • ‘Fez’ Coming to PlayStation Consoles in March

It’s another week and Sony is once again announcing the release date for an indie game that is coming to the PlayStation 4. This time the game is one of the most-talked about indie games of the past two years. Fez is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita on March 25.

Fez, is the 2D/3D platformer that impressed critics and fans in 2012 with its interesting puzzle mechanics involving a bit more thought and detective work than the average video game puzzle. The game has already sold over one million copies across the Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

The PlayStation versions of Fez have been ported by developer BiltWorks. It’s unclear what role the game’s original studio, Polytron, is playing in the PlayStation release. Fez creator Phil Fish rage quit the video game industry last year, halting development on Fez 2 shortly before the PlayStation versions of Fez were announced. Fish and Fez were famously featured in the documentary Indie Game: The Movie.

The launch trailer for Fez is still relevant to its PlayStation debut and shows why Fez is so lauded without spoiling too many secrets:

  • Puzzle Game Pavilion Previewed For PlayStation 4

As seen in the near-weekly announcements from Sony, indie games appear to have a new home in the PlayStation 4. Dozens of new indie games will be making their way to Sony’s new console this year, and a few of them will probably be free through PS Plus as well.

Today Visiontrick Media took to the PlayStation Blog to preview its puzzle indie game Pavilion. The game was announced for PS4 and PS Vita at last year’s Tokyo Game Show.

Pavilion is a puzzle game in which players will explore a mysterious world through a top-down perspective while leading a character through it. The catch is that that character is not directly controlled by the player. Instead, players will have to interact with the game’s environment, changing conditions and influencing events to encourage the character to move the game forward. For this reason Visiontrick is marketing Pavilion as a “fourth-person” puzzle game.

The concept is illustrated in a new teaser trailer that illustrates both the gameplay and interesting art style of Pavilion:

  • ‘The Swapper’ Coming to PlayStation Platforms in May

Last year indie game studio Facepalm Games released The Swapper for PC. The title is a stylish puzzle game with some interesting/disturbing story elements linked to its core gameplay mechanic of using clones to solve puzzles. The Swapper was highly praised by critics and now console gamers will get a chance to see what the hype was about.

Today Curve Studios announced that The Swapper will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita sometime in late May. Curve is the developer porting the game to PlayStation platforms.

Though more details about the console version will be coming over the next couple of months, it seems that the game will appear on PlayStation platforms in nearly the exact same form as it did on PC. Players will take on the role of a character stranded in a deep space outpost called Theseus station. To solve puzzles players will have to use four extra clone versions of their character and use them Lost Vikings-style.

The Swapper announcement is yet another in a long line of indie game announcements Sony has made over the past year. With titles such as Octodad and TowerFall landing on the PlayStation 4, Sony’s new console is quickly becoming the go-to platform for indie studios looking to make an appearance on consoles.

  • Sony Celebrating Vita’s Second Birthday With Sales

It’s been two years since the PlayStation Vita first hit store shelves. The handheld has been through some ups and downs (mostly downs) since then, but it’s finally starting to come into its own as a premium handheld device with games that largely cater to a core audience. Now some of those games are going on sale.

Sony announced today that its holding an anniversary sale on the PSN to celebrate the Vita surviving its first two years on the market. Many said it wasn’t possible within it first few months on the market, but things are looking up for it.

As a way of saying thank you to all the fans that spread the Vita gospel throughout its two years on this earth, Sony will be discounting a variety of games, like Castlestorm, Escape Plan, flOW, Flower and Hotline Miami. Many of these games support cross buy so you’ll be getting them on the PS3 and PS4 as well.

    Here’s the full list:

Sony Celebrating The Vita's Second Birthday With Sale

If that’s not enough for you, Sony is holding another sale this week with deep discounts on some of the biggest titles from 2013:

  • Here’s What’s New In Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD

Sony began the HD remaster trend with God of War Collection for PS3. At the time, it seemed developers were just content with upgrading the resolution of these older games and leaving it at that. Square Enix has proven it isn’t so lazy with its HD remasters of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X.

In the latest trailer for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, Square explains why it took them three years to upgrade the visuals of a decade-old game. It turns out that they upgraded and improved more than just the visuals as they added new content not found in the North American version of the game.

On top of the new features, they’ve also remixed the music, added trophies and included an audio drama. All of these new additions and features add up to create the definitive version of Final Fantasy X and X-2 for fans and newcomers alike.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be out on March 18 for PS3 and PS Vita.

  • MLB 14 The Show Coming To PS3 And Vita In April, PS4 In May

MLB 14 The Show will be the only true baseball simulation title out for consoles this year thanks to 2K not renewing its agreement with the MLB. Sure, the MLB itself will be putting out a new RBI Baseball game this year, but PlayStation consoles will be the only place baseball fans can get a deep sim experience when it launches in April.

Sony announced today that MLB 14 The Show will launch on the PS3 and PS Vita on April 1. Unless the date is some kind of cruel April Fools joke, baseball fans will finally get their fix in a little over a month. What about the PS4 version though? Sony says that particular version will be launching a month later in May, but gave no specific date.

As for features, the developers at SCEA San Diego Studios announced last year that MLB 14 The Show will finally introduce a way for players to carry over their saves from this this year’s game to next year’s iteration. It’s an amazing feature that’s been a long time coming for fans who love to build dynasties, but hate having to build up brand new teams with every new iteration.

Other features include a new way to play a 9 inning game in less than 30 minutes, a completely revamped Road to the Show single-player campaign and share features that are exclusive to the PS4 version.

Here’s a new trailer for the game that pulls footage exclusively from the PS3 version:

If you want to see how the PS4 version stacks up, check out this screenshot comparison provided by Sony:

  • PS Vita Slim Announced For North America

PS Vita Slim Announced For North America

Last year, Sony launched a slimmer PS Vita in Japan alongside the PS Vita TV micro-console. While Sony seems content to keep the Vita TV in Japan, the slimmer PS Vita is finally making its way to our shores.

Yesterday evening, Sony announced that the slimmer, lighter PS Vita would be coming to North America in the Spring. The new model is 20 percent slimmer, 15 percent lighter and features an LCD screen compared to the OLED screen found in the original model. Sony also boasts of a new battery that increases playtime to 4-6 hours compared to the original’s 3-5 hours.

Coinciding with the announcement of the new hardware, Sony also revealed that Borderlands 2 for Vita will be launching alongside the new hardware this Spring. In fact, it will be releasing a bundle that includes the new Vita, a copy of Borderlands 2, six DLC packs and an 8GB memory card for $199.

Like with all announcements, Sony has released a new trailer showcasing some of the upcoming games for PlayStation Vita. There’s not a lot here, but it’s all quality stuff with more expected to be announced later this year:

  • Sony Bringing Four Games To Vita As Part Of Play 2014 Promotion

For the past few years, Sony has promoted upcoming PlayStation titles through Play – a four-week long promotion that encourages players to buy upcoming titles in exchange for refunds. PlayStation Plus members generally receive a gracious discount on top of that as well. While these promotions generally take place during the summer, Sony is starting early this year with a Play promotion for upcoming Vita games.

Sony announced this morning that Play 2014 will begin on January 21 and last through February 17. Each week will see the release of a new Vita title with players who buy all four getting a $10 refund at the end of the promotion.

The first title out of the gate on January 21 is OlliOlli – an arcade skateboarding game. It will release at the price of $12.99, but PlayStation Plus members will get it for $10.39.

On January 28, the Vita will get Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z. The latest entry in DBZ fighting game franchise is the only non-indie game as part of the Play promotion and will cost $39.99. PlayStation Plus members will get it for $31.99.

On February 4, PC indie darling Dustforce will make its way to the PS3 and PS Vita courtesy of Capcom. It will cost $9.99, but PlayStation Plus members will get it for $7.99.

Finally, February 11 will see the release of TxK – the latest entry in the legendary Tempest franchise. Developed by Llamasoft, the developer says TxK is “neon candy for your thumbs and your mind.”

As part of the Play promotion, you’ll get $3 back if you buy any two of the above games. For buying three of the above games, you’ll get $6 back. If you buy all four, you’ll get $10 back. The promotion only lasts until February 17 so buying any of the games after that won’t count towards anything.
