  • Powerball Ticket Worth $16 Million Expires Tonight

On May 25th, an unknown person or persons bought a Powerball ticket in Tampa Bay, Florida at Carollwood Market. The numbers of the ticket were: 2, 6, 19, 21, 27, Powerball number 25. That ticket wound up being a $16 million winner but the prize has gone unclaimed. The 180-day deadline to cash in is fast approaching, and at 11:59 pm tonight, the ticket will be worth nothing.

David Bishop, a spokesman for the Florida Lottery, stated, “It’s here, we’re ready to give it to the rightful owner. We want to give the money away.”

So what happened to the winner? We can only speculate at this point. No one knows for sure. There was another large unclaimed lottery jackpot in Florida in 2003. A whopping $53.7 million went unclaimed. No one found out what happened to that winner either.

And where does the unclaimed cash go? The Florida Lottery website says that 80% of the money goes to education. In fact, the Florida Lottery has given $25 billion dollars to the state for public education over the past 25 years. The other 20% is put back into the Florida Lottery prize pool.

Powerball runs every Wednesday and Saturday nights at 10:59 pm Eastern. In order to hit the jackpot, you must match all five white balls and one red ball, which is the Powerball. Each ticket costs $2. There are several different cash prize payouts a player can win without hitting the jackpot. Last night’s numbers were: 4, 18, 23, 32, 45, Powerball 7. However, no one hit the big jackpot, which will rollover to Saturday night. The estimated jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is $50 million.

  • Spider-Man Handing Out Prizes in London Tomorrow

The video game tie-in for “The Amazing Spider Man” movie launched earlier this week in the U.S., but the British are just now getting their hands on the title. To celebrate the release, Activision and GAME have teamed up to put on a ground-level marketing campaign around London.

Someone dressed in a Spider-Mad costume was the subject of several photo opportunities around popular London tourist attractions today. How GAME can afford a Spider-Man costume is unknown, but Spidey will be back in Central London tomorrow handing out prizes. Fans who find where Spider-Man is hiding on Saturday could win The Amazing Spider Man video game, which is out today in the U.K. for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo 3DS or DS. Other prizes include Spider-Man merchandise or even a trip to New York.

Participants will have to hunt down Spider-Man, though, to win the prizes. Activision stated today that Spider-Man will be “web-slinging his way around town,” though that is obviously preposterous. More likely, Spider-Man will be escorted to designated “secret” give-away areas, probably in close proximity to some of the few GAME stores left in the U.K. Clues to Spidey’s whereabouts will be given on both the GAME Facebook page and Activision Insider Twitter account.

As bizarre as this marketing ploy may be, I have to admit that the thought of Spider-Man playing hide-and-go-seek around London and handing out prizes cracks me up. It makes me wonder whether the event has been officially sanctioned by Marvel, who should an interest in keeping Spider-Man from becoming a spokesperson.

  • Adobe Contest Looking For #1 Photoshop Fan

Adobe Contest Looking For #1 Photoshop Fan

#1 Photoshop Fan from Adobe Next Photoshop Evangelist on Vimeo.

Adobe is running an interesting contest right now. They are inviting people to upload a two minute length tutorial video to Vimeo sharing why they think that they should be the next Photoshop evangelist.

From Adobe: “submit a two-minute Photoshop video tutorial demonstrating why you should be the Next Photoshop Evangelist. Your video must use Photoshop CS5, a new Photoshop CS5 feature, and, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Photoshop, incorporate the concept of “20″ somewhere in the final image. Have fun!”

Once you make your video you submit it to their Vimeo group here.

Adobe will then select up to 12 finalists where the general membership of their Facebook Photoshop Community will vote on which finalist video is the best for the Grand Prize.

The Grand Prize winner will receive a copy of Creative Suite 5 Design Standard, a trip to Photoshop World (Spring 2011), the chance to demo their tutorial at the conference, roundtrip coach airfare, lodging and meals. All Finalists will also be showcased on the Photoshop YouTube channel.

So Adobe’s incorporating Vimeo in this one. YouTube. And even Facebook. A nice contest that touches on a lot of the social web.

Personally I think someone could do something pretty creative with the new painting features using the mixer brush that’s new in CS5. By the way, here is my own review on the new CS5 from a few months back.

Submissions must be in by August 24th.

    Good luck!
