  • Netflix Prices To Rise: How Will Customers React?

Things are going well for Netflix, so well that the company plans on thanking their subscribers with a price hike.

The company announced plans to raise the pricing an additional $1 to $2 per month in the near future.

The good news for current subscribers is that they won’t see their rates change, at least not immediately. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said in an interview on Monday that persons already using the service can expect to continue to pay $8 per month for about the next year.

Persons who are new subscribers will be hit with the price hike immediately. Within a year or so, it’s believed that pricing will be uniform for all Netflix users.

The rise in pricing was announced following a strong first quarter for the company.

Raising the prices of the people responsible for those strong quarter figures is a move that some would see as rather unnecessary.

    Not so, according to Netflix.

The company said that they’ll need the extra income to pay for exciting changes they intend to bring to their subscribers.

Hastings told The Associated Press that they “want to make the service better and better so more people will join”.

He also shared that the bigger budget will allow the company to be able to stream even more quality shows and movies.

Netflix will need bigger and better shows and movies if it wishes to compete against traditional cable and the increasingly competitive Amazon Prime.

The company sees the price hike as an inevitable part the process. They simply hope that customers will see it their way and hold tight to their subscriptions.

  • New Nexus 7 To Cost $229 For 16GB, $269 For 32GB [Rumor]

Are we going to see the new Nexus 7 at next week’s Google event? There’s a good possibility, and it’s becoming even more likely after the latest leak.

Android Central received a tip and photographic evidence from an unnamed retail source that claims to have the prices of the new Nexus 7. The image shows that the 16GB model of the new Nexus 7 will cost $229 and the 32GB new Nexus 7 will cost $269.

As you can already see, the rumored prices are a slight bump up from the $200 and $250 price tags on the current Nexus 7 devices. Even then, the new prices are still insanely affordable, especially when you consider what’s reportedly inside the new tablets.

Last week, supply sources within China said that the new Nexus 7 would come equipped with a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU, a 1980×1200 display, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front camera. The new CPU is definitely the star of the show as its a pretty sizable upgrade from the Tegra 3 CPU in the original Nexus 7.

Unfortunately, the leak doesn’t give us any more information. We’re still waiting to hear on whether or not Google will launch the new Nexus 7 alongside Android 4.3. There’s a good chance as Google typically announces new Android versions alongside announcements of new Nexus hardware.

Now the only question is whether or not Sundar Pichai will announce both, just one or neither at the Google event next week. Previous reports have pegged both Android 4.3 and the new Nexus 7 for a July launch so it’s only natural for one to assume that next week’s Google event and today’s leak are no mere coincidences.

Of course, we’ll be watching out for any announcements out of Google next week regarding software and hardware. They still owe us for that relatively boring Google I/O keynote so here’s hoping they have something good in store.

  • E3 2013: Xbox One Will Launch For $499

In contrast to its big Xbox One unveiling, which focused on TV and sports, Microsoft’s E3 conference was packed full of games. In-between the constant trailers, however, was an important bit of information – the pricing info for the Xbox One.

In-between previews for an unnamed next-generation Halo game and Respawn’s Titanfall, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One will launch in November at the price of $499/€499/£429.

The $500 price point is a bit more than gamers may have been expecting, considering the Xbox One’s computing power falls short of the PlayStation 4’s. Just last week, games industry analyst Michael Pachter estimated that the Xbox One would launch at a $400 price point. The estimate was based on material costs for the console’s components, but it seems to have been a bit low. Pachter also estimated that the PlayStation 4 will debut at a $350 price, which might now suggest a $450 price for Sony’s new console. Sony is expected to announce the price of the PlayStation 4, along with the console’s box, tonight at their E3 announcement.

  • Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Console Release Date, Pricing, and Gameplay Trailer

Sega announced today that Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown will be launching June 5 for Playstation Network and June 6 for Xbox Live Arcade. Downloading the game will cost $14.99 over the Playstation Network and cost 1,200 Microsoft points over Xbox Live Arcade. Sega today has also released a gameplay trailer for the title, which can be seen below.

In a bit of a scummy move, character customizations will not be unlockable, or even be included with the game. Instead, downloadable content (DLC) packs for the game will be available immediately upon launch. The DLC character customization for each character, individually, will cost $4.99 on the Playstation Network or 400 Microsoft points on Xbox Live Arcade. Sega did state, though, that each pack will contain 600-950 customization items. Alternatively, two more DLC customization packs will be available at launch, each for $14.99 or 1,200 Microsoft points. These packs will allow players to buy the character customizations in bulk, with one pack having a combined 9 character customization packs and the other having a combined 10 character customization packs.

The console version of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown has been anticipated for quite a while. Changes from the arcade version will include a training mode, eight player online room match mode, and a match recording feature that will allow players to save, replay, and upload fights. Oh, and the downloadable customizations, of course. At least the DLC is only aesthetic in nature, though. I can’t imagine the uproar that would ensue in the fighting game community if DLC were released that gave real advantages during a fight.
