  • Somebody Is Actually Making A Documentary About The Power Glove

“I love the the Power Glove – it’s so bad.”

The above words, spoken by Lucas in 1989’s The Wizard, weren’t just an expression of 80s opposite slang, but a prophetic voice declaring to the world that Mattel’s NES peripheral was utter trash. Now a group of filmmakers want to chronicle the creation and continued popularity of gaming’s most notorious controller.

The Power of Glove is a new documentary that explores the origins of the Power Glove and its impact on gaming culture. Sure, it didn’t sell that well, and it was pretty terrible, but its effect on a generation of gamers can not be ignored.

There’s no firm release date for the film yet, but it can’t come soon enough. I might even have to go digging through my closet to find my old Power Glove to celebrate the release.

As an aside, I feel obligated to share Lucas and his badass Power Glove:

  • Nintendo Power Gloves Infused With Super Powers

The Nintendo Power glove was pretty useless, unless you had the ability to put it on and use it for other things like pretending you had the ability to play games with the glove. But you could also run around and pretend that you had a glove that could shoot lasers, or lift things telekinetically, or that gave you super strength. But what if the glove belonged to a superhero who already had powers?

Enter Josh Ln who has managed to infuse some powers, or in Batman’s case his costume, into the totally useless but totally awesome Nintendo Power Glove. Wolverine, Ironman, Thing, Batman, and Spiderman all make a cameo here and show that all you need is a little imagination. Go to Josh Ln’s Society 6 page to purchase any or all of these prints and hang them in your game room for all to marvel at!
