  • Buy Your Occupy Wall Street Poster at Wal-Mart

Since its conception by anti-consumerist Canadians Kalle Lasn and Micah White on September 17, 2011, Occupy Wall Street (OWS) protested against the widening income gap between the rich and the poor, as well as many other economic injustices in America.

Wal-Mart is the perfect example of what the Occupy Movement is against: High CEO-to-worker pay ratio; Michael Duke, Wal-Mart’s CEO makes an estimated $5.6 million dollars a year in total cash compensation, while the company’s sales associates average $18,000 per year. Occupy participants have protested labor conditions at Wal-Mart before.

An influential symbol of capitalism in America, Wal-Mart pulls no punches where it sees profits; Wal-Mart marketplace, a vendor page of the corporation’s site that allows third-party vendors to sell their items, has a special product on sale.

A vendor called The Poster Corps is selling a large panoramic poster print for $52.25 on the Wal-Mart marketplace. The poster shows a shanty town set up by the many protesting peoples of the Occupy Wall Street movement at Zuccotti Park, Lower Manhattan, Manhattan, New York City. There’s also another poster of an Occupy member holding up the American flag.

Though the print is published by art wholesaler Liebermans, the photograph was taken by Tom Sheckels of Moorestown, New Jersey. Sheckles told The Village Voice on Tuesday that he had “no idea” that his picture was being sold on the Wal-Mart website, and that he “didn’t have any control” of where it would end up being.

Sheckles, a retired environmental engineer, licensed his Occupy Wall Street photo to a company called Panoramic Images.

“They feed pictures off to many different agencies, stock agencies like Getty and All Posters,” Sheckels says. “Apparently, this is just one of the pictures that, in the mix of pictures, ended up at Wal-Mart.

The sole comment on the item’s page mentions that the panorama poster is “Rated excellent for the incredible irony.”

The Huffington Post received a statement from Wal-Mart spokesperson Ravi Jariwala, who said, “We are a retailer and we provide a broad assortment of products and we have a diverse customer base.”

The posters are currently out of stock.

  • Thor: The Dark World Gets A Character Poster

With Iron Man 3 signifying the official start to Marvel Studio’s Phase Two, the next leg leading up to The Avengers sequel, Thor: The Dark World, is due out on November 8. With that in mind, it’s about that time for promotional materials pushing the Thor sequel to start popping up. While there’s no specific order dictating how these materials start showing, usually, the first things to appear are a trailer and a movie poster. The trailer has already been released, and it certainly looks promising, which means the poster isn’t far behind.

That being said, the first trailer was released in April, which makes the slight delay between it and the poster’s release a little puzzling. Nevertheless, the poster was released this past weekend, and while it looks nice, it features the same design as previous Marvel movie posters. More on that in a moment, however. First, the trailer, just in case you missed it:

Now, the poster, which can be enlarged by clicking it:

    (image)

To some, this is almost an exact recreation of the Iron Man 3 poster, which features Tony Stark and Pepper Potts as the centerpieces, surrounding by the supporting cast, much like Thor and Jane Foster pose in the new one. The article goes to great lengths to point out the similarities between the two, finally saying Disney and Marvel are the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” train, which may, in fact, be the case.

But then again, most, if not all of the posters released for Marvel movies that tie into The Avengers fits that particular style. Observe:

    (image)

    (image)

    (image)

While there are subtle differences between all of the posters, the look and feel is certainly similar. It appears as if Marvel is following the same suit George Lucas used when all the posters for his re-releases and his new Episodes featured artwork by Drew Stuzan, and therefore, looked really similar to each other.

  • New Breaking Bad Poster Gets Us Ready For the Final Arc

When August 11, 2013 arrives, it will be almost a year since we’ve last seen new episodes that follow the adventures of Walt and Jesse. Well, the wait is almost over, and that means it’s time for the marketing machine to kick into gear, ensuring fans’ appetites are sufficiently whetted. First, you start by teasing the fanbase, usually with commercials reminding folks of the show’s return, something AMC’s already addressed:

Granted, such things may only frustrate those who are patiently waiting, because it almost serves as cruel reminder of what people are missing. The next step comes with the release some additional promotional content, usually in the way of a poster or some images from the upcoming episodes appearing in entertainment magazines.

While we’re still waiting on actual footage from Breaking Bad’s final episodes, there is a new poster for fans to enjoy, and it sets the mood quite impressively:

For those who want a little more, AMC posted a video titled “On the Set of the Final 8 Episodes: Breaking Bad,” which offers viewers greetings from the cast, while they are shooting scenes for the final eight episodes. Again, this kind of content is created to stoke the fires of those who are marking the calendar until Breaking Bad returns.

    It won’t be long now.

  • Total Recall Poster: International Version Fails to Impress

The international poster for director Len Wiseman’s “Total Recall” remake ranks up there with some of the worst posters ever conceived. Nothing about the piece makes you excited for the movie. Unless, of course, poorly Photoshopped images crammed into one space is enough to separate you from your hard-earned money. My interest in the film continues to drop every time new promotional material is released, and this international poster isn’t helping matters any. I guess I shouldn’t judge a movie by its poster, but damn, that thing is ugly.

Unfamiliar with “Total Recall”? Then you probably need this synopsis:

For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid, even though he’s got a beautiful wife who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man as he finds himself on the run from the police.

“Total Recall” stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, Bokeem Woodbine, John Cho, and Bill Nighy. Oh, and a three-breasted alien. Can’t forget about her. Look for the film to arrive in North American theaters on August 3rd.

  • Official Poster For Breaking Bad: Season 5

Official Poster For Breaking Bad: Season 5

The official poster for Season 5 of the smash TV hit Breaking Bad has hit the wires, and let’s just say it’s enough to make Bruce Campbell proud for its tagline alone. What we have is a great shot of Walter White assuming the thrown, in the shape of a lawn chair, left empty by a blown-up Gus Fring.

The stacks of cash and cases of meth only accentuate the impressive offering:

    (image)

    Hail to the King, indeed.

Considering the season being teased is supposed to be the last season of Breaking Bad, any thoughts on how it will play out? Will Walter survive his reign as the crystal meth king or is Jesse next in line? In case you may not know, the fifth season will be split in two eight-episode segments. The first segment starts on July 15. The second segment, however, will not be shown until the summer of 2013, which means it will take one more year of patronage before you get the final resolution.

Knowing Breaking Bad fans like I do, that won’t be much of a problem, save the fact that it’s going to take an entire year to get there.

  • Facebook’s “Likers Gonna Like” Poster

Facebook’s Toronto platform strategy team member Sachin Monga snapped a photo of a new printout adorning the wall of his office, set to remind employees that likers gonna like, as the social network files its IPO. The sentiment can also likely be applied to Facebook’s Timeline, which has more than a few haters. The new poster comes after previous motivational printouts, including sayings like stay focused & keep shipping, and move fast and break things:

    facebook poster

Facebook commences its IPO at 11 AM EST today, which Mark Cuban says might be the most important in history. Facebook’s valuation is at $104 billion, a fairly ridiculous amount of money, to say the least.

One can only speculate what the latest motivational poster is specifically geared toward, and investors seem to be likers of Facebook’s shares, as the company was forced to make more stock available, as it quickly sold out. Still, outside of all the intrigue and buzz, there really isn’t anything in place to prevent the $100+ billion company from devolving into the next Myspace.

  • Minimalist Movie Posters Make You Think About Life

Minimalist Movie Posters Make You Think About Life

Sometimes things in life like movies really have the possibility to make you think about things in a new light. Saving Private Ryan did that for me, even though I was in the Air Force, it made me realize the reality of fighting a war against an experienced army. The minimalist approach has the ability to make even the smallest things that you may have not noticed the first time seem like the most important things in the movie.

Daniel Keane over at WolfCadet.com has created a ton of cool posters making movies into minimalist pieces. The goal as far as I can tell is to get as much emotion out of as little as possible. Everything you see here is available to purchase and there are also a lot more including Seven posters and Shining posters.

The battle of Thermopylae is one of the turning points in the history of the western world. 300 Spartains led an army of 7,000 men to defend a small pass from an invading Persian army that consisted of anywhere between 100,000 and 500,000 soldiers. The Greeks held them off for 7 days before falling.

  • Jennifer Lawrence Featured On Latest “House At The End Of The Street” Poster

Earlier today the official Facebook account for “House at the End of the Street” updated their timeline with a new poster for the film. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games) and Elizabeth Shue (Piranha) as a mother and daughter who move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. When Lawrence’s character befriends the lone survivor of the tragic events, they learn the nightmare is far from over.

The poster for the film seems to be playing up that Jennifer Lawrence is in the film, which makes total sense. As her latest film, The Hunger Games, was number 1 at the box office for four straight weeks and has grossed over $336 million in the US alone. Check out the poster for yourself below:

    (image)

If you’re unfamiliar with the film, here is the official synopsis for the film:

Seeking a fresh start, newly divorced Sarah (Oscar®-nominee Elisabeth Shue; Leaving Las Vegas, Piranha 3D) and her daughter Elissa (Oscar®-nominee Jennifer Lawrence; The Hunger Games, X-Men: First Class) find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret. Years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter killed her parents in their beds, and disappeared – leaving only a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot, My Soul to Take), as the sole survivor. Against Sarah’s wishes, Elissa begins a relationship with the reclusive Ryan – and the closer they get, the deeper they’re all pulled into a mystery more dangerous than they ever imagined.

  • Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter International Poster Arrives Online

Who doesn’t want to watch an action-packed motion picture about the legendary Abraham Lincoln battling legions of blood-sucking vampires? If there is such a person on the planet, I don’t think we would be very good friends. The trailer for “Wanted” director Timur Bekmambetov’s upcoming effort “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” has apparently received mixed reactions. People who I thought would love the concept claim they have no interest in seeing the film, a fact that almost brings a tear to my eye. After all, the film features Abraham Lincoln fighting vampires with an axe. How could this possibly go wrong?

Regarding the plot, this is what you’re going to get:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” stars Benjamin Walker, Alan Tudyk, Anthony Mackie, Rufus Sewell, Erin Wasson, Dominic Cooper, and the adorable Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The film opens in North American theaters on June 22nd, in your choice of 2D or 3D.

  • G.I. Joe: Retaliation Cobra Commander Character Poster Impresses

Truth be told, I wasn’t a huge fan of the first “G.I. Joe” film. Director Stephen Sommers took one of my favorite childhood toys and turned them into a two-hour throbbing headache. If the so-called “performances” from Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans weren’t bad enough, the movie completely wasted such incredible talent as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christopher Eccleston, and Jonathan Pryce. And this is coming from someone who thoroughly watches insanely bad movies on a regular basis. If I told you how many times I’ve seen “Troll 2” and Steven Seagal’s “Out for a Kill”, your first reaction would be to point and laugh endlessly.

A short and sweet plot synopsis:

When Cobra spy Zartan has most of the Joes assassinated, the remaining Joes band together to strike back.

That having been said, I honestly think that “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” looks fairly amazing. Then again, I thought the same thing when I saw the promotional material for the first entry in the franchise, so I apparently know nothing. Google+Reader”>Slashfilm managed to get an exclusive look at the Cobra Commander character poster, which looks incredibly slick.

Twitter nerds have been pretty pumped about the flick’s upcoming release, and the latest poster has only added fuel to that fire. You can find a few of their reactions below.

  • Disney 1-Ups Promotional Campaign for Wreck-It Ralph with New Poster

Disney 1-Ups Promotional Campaign for Wreck-It Ralph with New Poster

Here is the new poster for the Disney Pixar Animation Film to be released in November, Wreck-It-Ralph. As the release date gets closer and closer expect more promotions to be released, so far we have little to go on, aside from a handfull of publicity stills. Although Disney did come out with a full working arcade game at last years D23 meeting. (See the video below)

John C. Riley will star as Wreck-it Ralph the villain in a 8-bit video game reminiscent of Donkey Kong and Rampage. Tired of the life of a bad-guy, Wreck-it Ralph sets out to become a hero instead.

Making an appearance in the film we be video game characters past and present. Or rather, generic versions that are pretty obviously intended to be the real thing but aren’t in order to avoid copyright infringement.

Other actors and actresses slated to star are Jack McBrayer (30 Rock page) as the hero Fix-It-Felix, Jane Lynch as a Master Chief-esque Sergeant Calhoun, and Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz.

Disney’s official synopsis sums it up pretty well:

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan — win a medal — but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?

The movie could very well have a trailer attached to The Avengers this summer, so be on the look-out for that.

When making a movie about a power hungry totalitarian regime you must have some obligatory propaganda posters to go with it. College Humor supplies the communist style propaganda that, frankly, the movie could have used.

These posters are all pretty self-explanatory so I will go into some super-fun facts about the Hunger Games.

Lionsgate has said that they will only make the full trilogy if the first film does well. The movie has now spent its fourth week in a row at the top of the box office. It is the only film since “Avatar” to accomplish the feat. In North America it has made $337 million so far.

The film has beaten the likes of “The Lorax”, “21 Jump Street”, “John Carter”, and “Titanic 3D” to earn the top spot. Titanic spent 15 weeks at the top of the box office when it first came out.

See more details about The Hunger Games box office success HERE and HERE.

Director Gary Ross will not be directing the next sequel in the Hunger Games Trilogy: Catching Fire. Ross has said that he did not really care for the other books in the trilogy.
