  • Hayden Panettiere Attends Hubby’s Fight After Rehab Stint For Post-Partum Depression

After spending almost a year in a rehab facility for post-partum depression, actress Hayden Panettiere finally made an appearance last weekend.

The petite actress had previously sought professional help shortly after giving birth to her and boxer Wladimir Klitschko’s first child, Kaya, in December of last year.

Hayden Panettiere has always been vocal about her post-partum struggles in interviews, even addressing fellow women who are going through the same experience.

“Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal,” she said. On Saturday, the Nashville star surprised her husband by flying out to Dusseldorf, Germany to watch his World Heavyweight Championship match. Hayden Panettiere was in high spirits, gamely smiling for the camera and showing off the Ukrainian flag – which she draped around her shoulders – as she cheered her husband on.

Klitschko faced off against Tyson Fury, who defeated him to snag the WBA, WBO, and IBF word titles.

After getting engaged in October 2013 and announcing their pregnancy the following year, Hayden Panettiere gave birth to their daughter Kaya. She discussed her struggles with post-partum depression in several interviews including one held during an appearance in the talk show, Live with Kelly and Michael.

Due to her stint in rehab, Hayden Panettiere had to take a break from her acting duties on the musical drama series Nashville, in which she plays rising young country star Juliette Barnes. Her performance has garnered accolades from critics as well as a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 70th Golden Globe Awards.

A source close to Hayden Panettiere told Us Weekly that despite her husband’s loss, she was “excited” to be at his fight to support him. She is also said to be spending more quality time with her family over the holidays while she prepares to resume filming for Nashville in January.

    Capitol Hill Incident: Details Emerge

On Thursday, October 3, 2013, at approximately 2:30PM, a driver rammed into a vehicle barricade on 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, near the White House. The driver then initiated a brief high-speed pursuit, and fled toward Capitol Hill, where shots were fired.

There were senators and tourists near the scene at the time. Edmund Ofori-Attah, a tourist, described how the shooting unfolded after the police chased a black Infiniti coupe up Constitution Avenue. Attah walked toward the scene as the car stopped, when he heard gunfire and went to the ground for protection. Senator Bob Casey, from Pennsylvania, was walking across the street from the Capitol to the Senate Russell Office Building when he noticed officers speeding past on motorcycles. He also told reporters that “within seconds of that, he heard pops that sounded like shots”. Senator Sherrod Brown also noted how officials made them crouch down behind a vehicle for cover. FBI agents rushed to the scene and officers moved people into the Capitol. Those standing outside the Supreme Court were hustled into the court building as well. There was a brief lockdown of the entire complex, for precautionary measures.

This incident comes two weeks after the Navy Yard shooting that killed thirteen individuals, including the suspect. In this case, there were no weapons used by the suspect or found in the car. The Capitol Hill incident injured police officers, who are expected to recover, and also left the suspect, Miriam Carey, dead due to gun shot wounds. Fortunately, her one-year old child, who was later found to be in the car, was not injured.

According to family and friends, Carey suffered from post-partum depression and other mental issues, but they believed that she was feeling and doing much better. A man who spoke to reporters expressed his current concerns about mental health issues and its effects. “There needs to be more services out there to help those people so that incidents like this that happen around the country don’t happen again.” The incident is being further investigated for more details.

  • Andrea Yates Wants to Go to Church

Andrea Yates Wants to Go to Church

Andrea Yates is a woman who has historically evoked emotions of sympathy and rage within the American people. After suffering postpartum depression (PD) and psychosis, the tortured soul drowned her five children in their family home in Houston, TX. The children ranged in age from 6 months to 7 years old. Her husband, Rusty, stood by her side and felt that if she had been working with a competent physician the horrific event would have never happened.

Yates had tried to kill herself on two separate occasions before she drowned her children — one time with pills, the other with a knife. After these attempts she was sent to a psychiatric hospital where she remained for three weeks and was diagnosed with PD.

The woman’s thoughts would race about her children and she worried how they would turn out. But she started taking two anti-depressants, Wellbutrin and Effexor, and an anti-psychotic, Haldol. Her mood improved and the Yates’ decided to have another child despite written warnings from a physician that her depression would return.

And it did — with a vengeance. Six months after the birth of their last child, Mary, she lost her mind and committed filicide. She believed that Satan was sending her messages and says she killed her kids so that they would go to heaven.

On July 26, 2006, the jury found that Yates was not guilty by reason of insanity.

Now her doctors are asking that she be allowed to leave the mental hospital where she is currently receiving treatment to attend church for two hours a week.

According to George Parnham, her attorney, “it is a recommendation of the doctors that she be permitted to attend, and of course she wants to. It would be both beneficial and mentally therapeutic for her. She has been accepted into a congregation. It is simply a baby step in the right direction toward acclimation into a community down the road of sorts.”

According to the Chronicle, Parnham also believes that Yates has been ready to rejoin society for years, including getting a job and living on her own and thinks she is “ready for outpatient care.”

We reported earlier that Casey Anthony wants to be baptized and find solace in religion. Apparently the last week has been a time for fallen mothers to find their religious roots.
