  • Farrah Fawcett Portrait in Middle of Court Debate

Farrah Fawcett, the icon of the 70’s, had her beauty immortalized in artwork that is now the center of heated debates and court proceedings. Fawcett’s Alma Mater, the University of Texas, has brought a lawsuit regarding ownership of a silkscreen picture against Ryan O’Neal, who famously shared a glamorous yet rocky and public relationship with the blonde celebrity.

Though O’Neal had previously spoken about the violent outbursts that happened throughout his relationship with Fawcett, he remains adamant that the portrait was a gift to him from his late love interest.

Fawcett indicated in her will that all artwork in her possession was to be given to the University of Texas. When receiving the artwork, an Andy Warhol portrait of Fawcett was delivered. With the help of an informant, it soon came to the attention of the university officials that a second portrait had also been completed. Detectives were hired by the officials at the university to locate the second portrait, which was ultimately found in Ryan O’Neal’s home.

There are two sides to every story, and according to O’Neal the second portrait was a gift from Andy Warhol, himself, to O’Neal. However, the situation has gotten messy. Trustees of the university have sued O’Neal, and he has countersued the university over a different Warhol sketch, which he claims is a personal belonging of his that has somehow ended up in the university’s Blanton Museum of Art.

Though the beauty died in 2009 on the same day as Michael Jackson, fans the world-over still hold a torch for the beloved Charlie’s Angel.

  • You Can Get A 3D Printed Model Of Yourself In Japan

3D printers have been used for some strange things, but the strangest has come from Japan. Back in July, we reported on a Japanese company that would recreate a fetus via 3D printing. It was a little strange, but there’s probably a market for it among mothers. Now Japan is back with another crazy 3D printer business, but it’s decidedly less creepy.

Omote 3D, a pop-up store in Tokyo’s Harajuku district, is now creating portraits of customers via a 3D printer. The store’s staff scans a person 3D image into a computer, and prints out a fairly detailed miniature of the person. The figures can be anywhere between four to eight inches in height, and would be a great holiday gift for the narcissist in your family.

Here’s some of the figures the store has made based on scans from real people:

This isn’t the first time that somebody has thought to create portraits with 3D printers. A company called BumpyPhoto creates 3D printed portraits based upon existing photos. Of course, BumpyPhoto’s creations aren’t as impressive because they have to deal with inferior source materials.

The only problem that both services face is the cost. 3D printing doesn’t come cheap, and those wanting 3D models of themselves will have to pay a premium price for it. Omote 3D offers discounts on parties of three or more, but it’s still relatively expensive. A single 10cm figurine of one person will set you back 21,000 yen, or $262 USD.

If you don’t mind paying that kind of money for a 3D printed model of yourself, you’ll have to act fast. Omote 3D will only be open for a limited time. The store opens on November 24 and will close on January 14 of next year. If it proves popular, it may just stay open longer.

  • BumpyPhoto Makes 3D Printed Portraits Of Your Friends And Family

Everybody loves a good portrait. It’s the ultimate expression of self-indulgence. What happens when you take a portrait and toss it into the future of 3D printing? Something that might be even more terrifying than 3D printed fetuses.

Barry Collins of PCPro recently had the displeasure of his portrait being sent to the geniuses at BumpyPhoto. It’s a service that takes regular old photos and converts them into 3D using a 3D printer. Here’s how Collins face turned out when converted into 3D:

Beyond how horrifying it looks from the back, it’s actually pretty awesome. It seems like a no-brainer when it comes to preserving memories beyond regular photos. Sure, there are 3D cameras, but there’s nothing quite like this. Here’s BumpyPhoto’s ad featuring more 3D printed photos:

This is all pretty cool, but looking at BumpyPhotos from the back is still kind of terrifying. It’s like looking into the soul of a person only to find nothing. Barring the backsides, this is a pretty impressive service.

As 3D printing continues to take off, expect more services like these to pop up around the world. There’s countless new industries just waiting to be created thanks to 3D printing.

  • Video Game Characters And Their Realistic Portraits

What if your favorite video game character was real? I know this sounds weird, but when you put video game sensibility into real life, the majority of time it is an epic fail. The best example is the Super Mario Bros movie, not only was it a terribly written movie, but it is a perfect example of what i’m talking about.

Well, Tom Rhodes from Calgary, Canada has been able to do just that thing. He created portraits of what some of the most popular video game characters of all time would look like in real life. Check out the portraits below with a brief description from Mark aboout some of them and make sure to check out his page because he has a bunch more:

    Mega Man

“Or is it “Megaman”, or maybe Rock Man?”

    Ken and Ryu

    Lara Croft

“So you wanted to play a game as a brilliant, female archaeologist, huh? Well… Knock yourself out”

    Mario

    Yoshi

“When I saw the Mario movie when I was a kid, I thought it was brilliant how they made Yoshi a realistic dinosaur. I’m still glad they did that”

    Donkey Kong

“Just a gorilla with a tie. Stressed the KONG part of his name here”

    Earthworm Jim

“I loved these games. Jim’s creator is really cool, too”

    Gordon Freeman

“Here’s a drawing of how I pictured Gordon Freeman when he’s walking around between trained soldiers and inter-dimensional aliens.”

    Duke Nukem

    “Good old Duke”

  • Lanterns, Knots, & A Masquerade

It’s raining where I live; has been for two days now. Utter dreariness. If this describes the climate where you are today then take a break from gazing listlessly out the window and have a turn at today’s Top Photos From Google+ (or, if you’re in sunnier climes, still take a break for this). Move your mouse cursor over each image to read the caption (if the photographer gave one). If you like what you see here be sure to visit the Google+ accounts of the sharers. It’ll be like a cherry-flavored Life Saver for your soul.
