  • Gerald Green Alley-Oops It To Himself For Epic Dunk [Video]

It is not the type of play that happens too often, but Gerald Green recently pulled off a spectacular dunk when completing an alley-oop off the glass to himself. The guard for the Phoenix Suns is one of the best in the NBA at dunking the ball, and certainly showed it last night.

Gerald Green was the NBA’s Slam Dunk Contest champion in 2007, and has had several gravity defying dunks already in the 2013-2014 season. The Suns are currently fighting for a spot in the playoffs, along with the Dallas Mavericks’ who received some help last night with a big performance from Dirk Nowitzki.

Green’s epic play happened during a game last night with the Portland Trailblazers. The Suns ended up winning the 109-93, and it was played in Portland. The Blazers dropped to 49-28 with the loss and still sit in the West’s No. 5 seed.

Meanwhile, the Suns are tied with Memphis Grizzlies for the 8th seed with a record of 45-31. Gerald Green finished the game with a game-high 32 points, five rebounds and two assists. Eric Bledsoe also added a career-high 30 points, and seven rebounds for Phoenix. Portland was led by 18 points each from Robin Lopez and LaMarcus Aldridge.

The rare type of dunk came in the fourth quarter, and just as it began, the Blazers led 80-79. At the start of the quarter, Green awkwardly picked up his dribble near the free-throw line, and was forced to improvise, hoping to give the Suns the lead.

In one of the most spectacular dunks of any player’s career, he proceeded to chuck the ball high off the right side of the glass, as Robin Lopez, Portland’s only interior defender, was otherwise occupied playing defense. After bouncing off the glass, it came back to Gerald Green cleanly and he attacked the hoop, catching the pass to himself with two hands and finishing the easy flush.

  • Lebron James Strains Groin Against Kings, Status Unknown

Well, it appears that the King James is human after all, and has suffered a groin injury in their recent game against the Sacramento Kings.

The Miami Heat lost a major contributor in their offense when Lebron James strained his groin during their game on Friday night.

In the game, he aggravated his left ankle injury in addition to the groin strain. The Heat lost to the Kings 108-103 in overtime, and as the injuries continue to pile up, they are set to head to Portland for a big game on Saturday night.

With Lebron James being absent from any games during the Heat’s season, it is a big deal, as he has been one of the top players in the NBA for every year that he has been in the league.

He is also one of the toughest players in the league, with it being uncommon for him to sit out due to injury, and he has actually played in no less than 91 percent of all available regular season games each season since he entered the NBA in 2003.

James leads his team in scoring, and even when playing through his injury on Friday night, the NBA All-Star scored 33 points, along with 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

When asked about the injury, Lebron James said “It’s not feeling too well right now. I don’t know what happened in the first half. I played [much of] the second half and overtime, and strained my groin. I’ll see how I feel on our trip to Portland tonight and into tomorrow.”

He has not yet announced whether he will be playing, but in a game that has been talked about for weeks, he would certainly like to be able to make an appearance. Ray Allen and Dwayne Wade both sat out during last night’s game due to knee injuries, and will hope to be able to play during tonight’s game.

The Heat will be on the road in Portland tonight, playing a team with the best record in the league, and a chance for each team to prove that they are the best. He says that he plans to announce whether he will play or not near the tip in Portland.

Despite battling several injuries that continue to nag him throughout the season, including his back and ankle, Lebron James has yet to miss a game during the 2013-2014 season. With a record of 22-7, the Heat are set to battle the Portland Trailblazers, and attempt to prove that they are still the best team in the league.

  • Derrick Rose Is Injured Again, Needs Surgery

Derrick Rose, the star player for the Chicago Bulls, has been injured again. He just can’t seem to catch a break. Rose, one of the best players in the NBA missed most of last season due to a knee injury, and upon coming back, he has injured his other knee.

He is the Bulls’ point guard, and missed all of last season while recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

He injured his right knee during the third quarter of Friday night’s game against the Portland Trailblazers. He did not return to the game, and it looks like he may be out indefinitely again.

The Bulls saw a return from Rose in the season opener against the Miami Heat, and in a big statement for Miami, the Bulls struggled and lost the game.

Derrick Rose is set to have an MRI on the knee on Saturday in Los Angeles, after flying there with the team. Coach Tom Thibodeau did not want to speculate on the seriousness of the injury and simply stated “But I don’t want to speculate until we get more information for you guys. We’ll have more [Saturday] for you guys.”

His teammates Luol Deng and Taj Gibson also showed their concern for their teammate, and as a team that struggled throughout last season, he will clearly be missed again if he is to be out for an extended period during this season.

Deng attempts to look on the bright side, knowing that they have been in this situation before, when saying “Obviously, it’ll be a setback not having him. But we’ve been there before. We just have to play together.”

Rose is likely to opt to have the meniscus reattached, which would be better for the long-term, but sideline him longer. He suffered his most recent injury when cutting on a non-contact play Friday night in Portland, Ore., and left the arena on crutches.

After being the top pick in the 2008 draft, Derrick Rose has had a successful career that has unfortunately been plagued with injury recently. He is averaging 15.4 points per game this season, and the hope is that he will be able to return as soon as possible, and not have to miss much of the season as he did last year.
