  • Harvey Weinstein To Film A NRA Takedown Movie?

It seems noteworthy film studio executive Harvey Weinstein definitely feels some type of way about guns. At least that’s the way his sentiments came across during his recent interview on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show earlier today.

The hour-long interview started out as any other. The Miramax Films’ co-founder shared details about one of his upcoming projects that he’s looking forward to filming. He revealed that the upcoming Judy Garland biopic Get Happy, starring Anne Hathaway, will likely begin production in the coming months. Weinstein lauded the Les Miserables actress exclaiming that there are no other contenders for the starring role as far as he is concerned.

“There’s no testing,” Weinstein said of casting Hathaway for the role. “She sung like Judy Garland for me, she sings beautifully, she has that look … I think that’ll be a good movie.”

However, the interview took an interesting turn when Weinstein mentioned yet another project in the preliminary stages of development. According to MTV, the Academy Award-winning producer unveiled the concept of a collaborative effort in the works between he and veteran actress Meryl Streep.

As Weinstein shared glints of the project’s basis, it was quite evident that the body of work would express his opposing views of the National Rifle Association. Its actually safe to say the NRA, which promotes firearm ownership and competency, gets absolutely no acclamation from Weinstein. As a matter of fact, the man hates guns, and had no qualms about explaining why.

“I don’t think we need guns in this country and I hate it, and I think that the NRA is a disaster area.” Then, although he admitted that he “shouldn’t say this,” he went on to further explain the details of the collaborative film with Streep.

“I’m gonna make a movie with Meryl Streep and we’re gonna take this issue head on,” he said. “They’re gonna wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them.” Weinstein explained that the film would exhibit similar comparisons to the 1939 film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. The critically acclaimed political comedy-drama film, which features one man’s plight to stand boldly against political corruption, is quite similar to Weinstein’s views of the NRA.

Although he only gave a gist of the film’s details, the critical response to it will be quite intriguing.
