Missing Florida Boys: Families Seeking Pilots to Aid in Search Near Carolinas

Two missing Florida boys have the whole east coast in a frenzy, but certainly no one is as frenzied as their desperate families. The Coast Guard officially called off the search for Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen on Friday. That doesn’t mean the search is over, however.

The families of the two missing Florida boys started a GoFundMe webpage that has already raised close to $375,000. The families will use this money to fund private searches, and they are appealing to pilots in or near the Carolinas to come to their aid. They are seeking both airplane and helicopter pilots to search off the coasts of both North and South Carolina for the missing Florida boys.

The two 14-year-old boys went missing on July 24th, when they headed out from the Jupiter Inlet into the Atlantic Ocean on their 19-foot boat. The Coast Guard searched for several days, and covered almost 50,000 square nautical miles–ranging from Jupiter to the Carolinas–before suspending the search on Friday.

Businesses local to Tequesta, where the missing Florida boys families live, are ramping up efforts to help in the search. Some are donating a percentage of their earnings for Saturday to the search effort.

The GoFundMe page for Austin and Perry is still actively seeking donations, as it is uncertain how much money the families will need to continue with their search. If you want to donate to helping the search for these missing Florida boys, simply click on the link.

Some pilots have already joined the search effort. 19-year-old Andrew Register is co-piloting one search plane.

“I haven’t talked to the family,” Register said. “We’re just doing this out of the goodness of our hearts, trying to find these boys and bring them home to their family, because if I was in the same situation, I would want somebody to come look for me. You know? Treat others the way you want to be treated in life.”

If you know of pilots of any type of aircraft in or near the Carolinas who might be willing to help search for these missing Florida boys, please contact those in charge of the search at (561) 261-3400.

  • Gigi Hadid Receives Marriage Proposal

    Gigi Hadid Receives Marriage Proposal

Gigi Hadid received a marriage proposal on Friday. Does that mean boyfriend Joe Jonas got down on bended knee and proposed marriage to her?

    No.

That didn’t stop Gigi Hadid from smiling–and maybe even blushing a little–when she received the proposal.

So who proposed to Gigi Hadid?

    Mickey Mouse.

The fashion model enjoyed a day at Disneyland with Joe Jonas on Friday. Mickey enjoyed meeting Gigi Hadid so much, he proposed to her.

“I’ll be your Minnie ;),” she captioned a photo posted to Instagram.

In addition to the sweet marriage proposal, Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas enjoyed some of the thrill rides Disneyland offers. They and several of their friends rode on Pirates of the Caribbean, the Jungle Cruise, and the Haunted Mansion.

Gigi Hadid also shared a Disney photo taken with a friend.

“disney days, bestie days,” she captioned the shot.

Disneyland is definitely a place where magic happens. Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas no doubt spent a fun-filled day on Friday with their friends.

Do you suppose Mickey Mouse’s romantic proposal on bended knee gave Joe Jonas any ideas about proposing to Gigi Hadid?

Of course the two haven’t been dating for all that long.

Maybe by this time next year if they’re still together, Gigi Hadid could receive a real proposal.

  • Amber Heard Could Go To Jail for Smuggling Pistol

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have probably gotten more press than they wanted during their time in Australia. The pair went there because Depp is working on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film production company was offered a $20 million tax incentive to shot the fifth installment of the Pirates franchise there.

As you may recall, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp caught some flak for smuggling in their two dogs, Pistol and Boo, against Australian regulations.

Australian Agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce caught some camera time when he said, “There is a process if you want to bring animals: you get the permits, they go into quarantine and then you can have them. If we start letting movie stars even though they’ve been the sexiest man alive twice to come into our nation, then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody? It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States.”

A Dept. of Agriculture spokesperson in Australia added, “The Department of Agriculture is the Australian Government authority that manages animal imports to protect people’s health as well as animal and plant health. Any animal which is imported without meeting Australia’s import conditions will be ordered into quarantine and will either be exported or euthanized.”

Rather than see their dogs euthanized, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp sent them back home to the U.S. When asked for a comment about the situation, Heard replied, “I have a feeling we’re going to avoid the land Down Under from now on, just as much as we can, thanks to certain politicians there. I don’t know, I guess everybody goes for their 15 minutes, including some government officials.”

Even though the dogs were sent back home, a crime was allegedly committed under Australian law — two crimes, actually: illegal importation and false documentation.

Amber Heard can apply to have a sentence determined in her absence. Australian law does allow for a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $75,000 fine for the illegal importation charge against her, and a maximum one year in prison and $7,500 fine for false documentation.

Jetpets is a company that transports pets internationally. A spokesperson for that company commented about Australia’s lengthy and strident clearance program for pets like Amber Heard’s.

“Australian houses have very few diseases (such as rabies) so our live animal import regulations are very strict. There are many tests and vaccines that must be done on certain dates during the seven months by a government vet. Australia require pets to apply for import permits, secure quarantine space and stay in quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in Australia prior to being released in to the community.”

  • Penelope Cruz Mourns Passing of Father, 62-Year-Old Eduardo Cruz

Penelope Cruz is mourning the sudden passing of her father. 62-year-old Eduardo Cruz died on Thursday of a heart attack.

Hello! magazine reports he suffered from a history of heart ailments.

Living in La Manga, Spain with his wife, Carmen Moreno, and their three-year-old daughter, Penelope Cruz’s father often accompanied the Pirates of the Caribbean actress to premieres and promotional events.

In addition to Penelope Cruz, Eduardo Cruz was the father of Eduardo Cruz, Monica Cruz, and three-year-old Salma Cruz.

Penelope Cruz, who is known for keeping her personal life fairly private, shared a bit about her childhood, growing up with her dad, during a 2013 interview.

“There was always music, and everybody was dancing, sometimes naked around the house,” she said of growing up in Spain. “Not hippie, but very free.”

Javier Bardem was spotted accompanying his wife Penelope Cruz to a funeral home in Spain on Friday, just a day after learning her father had passed away.

Penelope Cruz and her family members are no doubt receiving condolences from around the world on the untimely death of her father, Eduardo Cruz.

  • Johnny Depp Jumps Ship In Bid To Save Marriage To Amber Heard

Looks like Pirates of the Caribbean 5 has hit stormy waters yet again.

Reports say that lead Johnny Depp has walked out of the set and is flying back to the US to try and salvage his marriage to Amber Heard.

A source on the movie’s production team has said the actor is “going back to the States on the first available private charter flight he can get on.”

The 29-year-old Heard left for the US last week with their two Terriers, Pistol and Boo, in a bid to save their lives.

The two dogs were brought in Australia without going through its very strict quarantine laws, a move that didn’t sit well with the country’s Agriculture Minister.

The Sleepy Hollow actor and his wife were given 50 hours to return the dogs or the pets would be seized and euthanized.

The rhum loving captain of the Black Pearl was supposed to bring the dogs back to the US but was discouraged by producers.

But pet fiasco aside, insiders are saying that Depp’s wife of three months also left because she was barred from the set of Pirates as the couple’s fights were starting to affect the movie’s shooting schedule.

A publicist for the Mortdecai actor has spoken out about the reports and said that none of it was true.

“I can’t go into detail on our filming schedules or the movements of individuals but I can tell you that nothing in that report has any relation to reality,” publicist Michael Singer clarified.

“Mr. Depp has been filming on schedule. It’s business as usual with all participants working,” he added.

Well, that’s certainly good news for everyone involved.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is already behind schedule with the unexpected hiatus it took when Depp injured his right hand.

Another break might maroon the franchise altogether.

  • Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Have Trouble with a Bitch

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard headed to The Gold Coast in Australia last month on a private jet. They are there because Depp is working on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film production company was offered a $20 million tax incentive to shot the fifth installment of the Pirates franchise there.

But now Johnny Depp and Amber Heard may be up a creek. According to Australian authorities, the couple brought their two dogs with them. The mutts are called Pistol and Boo. And the problem is that you can’t bring a pet into Australia without a lengthy process.

Australian Agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce said, “There is a process if you want to bring animals: you get the permits, they go into quarantine and then you can have them.”

According to this chap, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard did not properly clear their dogs. Then came this sexually ambiguous statement:

“If we start letting movie stars even though they’ve been the sexiest man alive twice to come into our nation, then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody?”

    Then came this diplomatic statement:

“It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States.”

According to a Dept. of Agriculture spokesperson in Australia, getting those two dogs in takes a lot of red tape.

“The Department of Agriculture is the Australian Government authority that manages animal imports to protect people’s health as well as animal and plant health. Any animal which is imported without meeting Australia’s import conditions will be ordered into quarantine and will either be exported or euthanized.”

So, the dogs could be deported, or they could be put down. The rep wouldn’t say which.

“The department is unable to comment on an individual’s imports or personal circumstances, regardless of whether that person is a public figure.”

Jetpets is a company that transports pets internationally. A spokesperson for that company commented about Australia’s lengthy ans strident clearance program for pets.

  • Lily-Rose Depp, Johnny Depp’s Daughter, Steps Out in Haute Couture at Chanel Fashion Show

Lily-Rose Depp, the 15-year-old daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, attended a Chanel event in New York this week with her mom. The teenager definitely turned heads at the Chanel and Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Metiers d’Art Collection fashion show, in a crop top and matching pencil skirt from the Chanel spring/summer 2015 collection.

With her hair cut into a sleek bob, Lily-Rose Depp looked more like one of the event’s models than an attendee. Even her famous mom dressed the part. Vanessa Paradis wore a black Chanel bouclé dress that featured a silver crisscross design. Vanessa was once a model for the fashion line. She appeared in her first Chanel perfume ad back in 1991. In 2010, she became the face of Chanel’s Rouge Coco lipstick. Karl Lagerfeld has long considered Vanessa Paradis among his muses.

“It feels good to be his doll,” Vanessa told Vogue back in 2010. “He always has the best ideas and has an amazing sense of improvisation.”

Do you think Lily-Rose Depp will follow her mom into the world of fashion modeling or might she be more interested in pursuing her dad’s line of work as an actor? So far, acting is winning out. Lily-Rose Depp is set to star in Yoga Hosers–Kevin Smith’s latest horror flick. This is a reprisal for Lily-Rose, who played the same role in Tusk. Johnny Depp plays a police detective in the film.

And just like Johnny Depp and director Kevin Smith, Lily-Rose Depp and Kevin’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith are close friends. Harley Quinn Smith stars in Yoga Hosers alongside her BFF.

Kevin Smith says the girls have a future in acting.

“It was thrilling to watch them both take their first steps in what’s bound to be a lifelong passion for performance,” he said.

It’s hard to believe that Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp is already 15. She looks even older than that. What do you suppose the Pirates of the Caribbean star thinks of his little girl being so grown up?

  • Johnny Depp: Kim Kardashian Was Once Smitten

Johnny Depp may have recently married Amber Heard, but he likely could have had (and perhaps still could) pretty much any woman he wanted. Do you think the Pirates of the Caribbean actor has any idea about the number of women who have swooned over him?

Do you think Johnny Depp has any idea that one of those women was Kim Kardashian?

It’s true. Kim Kardashian recently admitted to having had a huge crush on Johnny Depp.

“I was obsessed with Johnny Depp when I was a teenager. I thought he was so hot. He was gorgeous and had that bad-boy streak – especially when he was with Winona Rider and then Kate Moss,” West said during a recent interview with Australia’s Daily Life.

“I loved looking at couples and wondering what it was that attracted them to each other. I didn’t go for bad boys as a general rule and I never went for party boys but was certainly attracted to Johnny Depp physically,” she added.

Does Kanye West have anything to worry about, now that everyone knows Kim Kardashian was once smitten with Johnny Depp?

No. In fact, Kim recently admitted that he is the perfect man for her.

“All men should be like my husband Kanye. He is very selfless when it comes to our relationship,” she said. “He is giving and loving. He is respectful and has a great understanding about my needs.”

Right up there with Johnny Depp and Kanye West–at least in Kim Kardashian’s eyes–is her late father, Robert Kardashian.

“I remember looking at my dad and the way he interacted with Mum and thinking, ‘That’s the way a marriage should be.’ He was such a gentleman,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star said. “He always took care of his girls and my brother–he always made us feel important. He assured us everything would be okay regardless of what was going on.”

Are you surprised to learn that Amber Heard’s new husband, Johnny Depp, was once one of Kim Kardashian’s obsessions?

  • Debra Messing to Star in NBC’s ‘The Mysteries of Laura’

Debra Messing will star in NBC’s new detective comedy-drama hybrid series The Mysteries of Laura this coming fall.

Messing plays Detective Laura Diamond, a NYPD homicide detective and single mother of twin boys.

The series is scheduled to premiere Wednesday, September 24.

Messing will star alongside Josh Lucas, who is known for The Lincoln Lawyer and Sweet Home Alabama.

McG (Chuck, The O.C., Supernatural,) Aaron Kaplan (Made of Honor, You, Me, & Dupree,) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Brothers & Sisters, Eli Stone) are among the executive producers.

Messing spoke about what she calls the “dramedy” on Sunday at NBC’s Television Critics Association summer press tour.

“When I read the script it didn’t feel to me that this a new standard [or] an extreme case,” she said. “I responded to something incredibly universal about the predicament.”

Messing predicted that “it is the balance of the tone of drama and the comedy that is going to be the newest adventure and the newest challenge. That we haven’t seen on network TV before.”

“I didn’t have to choose. Do I want to do a comedy? Or do I want to do a drama? It’s both,” she said.

Messing rose to fame on NBC’s hit sitcom Will & Grace which ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006.

Since then, she has starred in the television miniseries The Starter Wife for which she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. Messing went on to star in the short-lived television series of the same name.

In 2012 and 2013 Messing starred alongside Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Talented Mr. Ripley) and Katharine McPhee (The House Bunny, You May Not Kiss the Bride) in NBC’s musical Smash. The series was canceled after two seasons.

  • Keira Knightley: Waisted Away in Chanel

Keira Knightley just seems to get skinnier by the day and her latest outfit does not help in her attempts to squelch any eating-disorder rumors.

Knightley, 28, arrived at Chanel’s runway show in a get-up that has one wondering what she was thinking and pretty much convinces anyone who sees her in the outfit that she just may have a problem.

The Anna Karenina star dressed for the fashion show in a Chanel cap-sleeved top, a sophisticated bottom, and a totally missing middle! Seriously, it looks weird.

Knightley, the face of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, has vehemently denied having an eating disorder. In 2007, she sued a newspaper publisher over anorexia claims.

Lagerfeld went all out in creating a supermarket in Paris’ Grand Palais to reveal his new collection.

Needless to say, the Twitterverse has had something to say about the look.

What do you think of Keira’s dress and figure?

  • Jerry Bruckheimer And Disney Set To Part Ways

Jerry Bruckheimer And Disney Set To Part Ways

Jerry Bruckheimer, the American film and television producer, has had a long time business partnership with Disney, but has decided to part ways. The partnership was reponsible for the Pirates of The Caribbean series most notably, but also National Treasure and others.

Bruckheimer is also responsible for several action films such as Pearl Harbor and The Rock, and this news may come as a very good thing for fans of his action films. The partnership between Walt Disney Co. and Jerry Bruckheimer has been very good for their business and earned great success at the box office.

Bruckheimer has had a long history with the company, but when their contract expires in 2014, he says that they will not renew the deal. This will end a relationship that lasted over 20 years, resulting in more than 27 films, according to the Los Angeles Times. After the box office failure of The Lone Ranger, Bruckheimer is looking to do business on his own and make a profit for a different type of fan base.

Fans of the series’ that Bruckheimer and Disney have worked on together will still continue with their sequels, although no more new projects will be started. He said in a statement that “The good news is we will continue working together on Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure and other projects we have developed together at the studio.” It must have been hard for him to not continue after the great success of these films, with the four previous Pirates Of The Caribbean films combining to gross $3.73 billion worldwide.

He says that much of the reason for the break has to do with the kind of movies that Disney is making opposed to the kind of films that he wants to make. Bruckheimer is set to produce another action film called Beware The Night, which will be released in 2015, and stars Eric Bana and Olivia Munn (The Newsroom). Forbes reports that Disney wants to make Disney movies, expensive, flashy, kid-centric, four-quadrant blockbusters with hard franchise and branding potential. Contrary to that, Bruckheimer wants to get back to make the kind of movies that he used to make. Of course, many of his earlier films were also huge blockbusters such as Beverly Hills Cop and Top Gun. There is also a possibility of a Top Gun sequel that was being put into motion by Tony Scott, but was then halted after he died. Bruckheimer has said that despite Scott’s untimely death, there has been some development on the project.

In related news, Bruckheimer had a birthday today and turned 70.

  • Pirates of the Caribbean Audiences Buck 3D

In a recent blog post, Roger Ebert asks if people “notice, really notice, what a movie looks like” in the theaters. A big screen film is supposed to be big, bright, and sharp. And although many people are still paying to see films in 3D at their local theaters, the backlash is growing towards 3D technology based on a combination of higher price points and lower film quality.

Full Disclosure: I am a film enthusiast, and will say that proudly even though I’m fully aware that the statement may label me pretentious, even highfalutin in some people’s eyes. The 3D debate strikes me as undeniably important to the question of how we value film, as a society, and where we see it going in the next five, fifty, even a hundred years. And in my opinion, it would be disastrous if 3D became the norm moving forward.

The arguments against 3D film technology are numerous and continuing to grow. The charge is being led, most notably, by long time Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert. To boil the main qualms with 3D film down as much as possible, most opponents cite the fact that the quality is inferior. Most importantly, the picture is dim and lacks crispness.

Oh yeah, and the ticket prices are at least 25% higher than regular 2D films.

Do a majority of Americans agree that 3D films are a bad deal? It’s tough to rest a big question like that on the shoulders of one movie. I mean, Avatar 3D and countless other 3D movies haven’t done so bad. But the number crunching of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides, shows film-goers choosing boring old 2D over 3D. Ebert linked to these figures this morning:

    “Pirates 4” audiences decisively choose 2D over 3D, 70% – 30%. http://bit.ly/l8lpWV 9 hours ago via SocialOomph · powered by @socialditto

Movie City News reports that 59% of ticket sales for Pirates 4 were for 2D, which obviously means the 3D version garnered 41% of the sales. From the MCN blog:

According to Len Klady’s Sunday reporting, 66% of Pirates 4 screens were 3D screens and Disney told him that just 48% of the box office gross came from those screens.

Let’s consider what those numbers mean…

Figuring a very rough average ticket of $9 for non-3D and $12 for a 3D ticket, they sold 3.6 million 3D tickets and 5.2 million non-3D tickets. This flips how the distribution was set up regarding 3D… 59% of sales were non-3D and just 41% were 3D.

Not only is this a clear rejection of 3D on a major movie, but given how distribution is currently designed, it makes you wonder whether Disney cost themselves a lot of gross by putting their film on too high a percentage of 3D screens.

What exactly caused this shift? Was it the quality issue? Or was it that many people simply aren’t willing to pay a few dollars extra for a 3D showing? Is it possible that the 3D is specifically poor in the new Pirates movie and that news spread around, prompting viewers to choose the 2D?

Whatever the reason, people on Twitter are talking about it. Of course there are plenty of tweets rolling in that praise the new Pirates 3D, but there are also a pretty large contingent of tweeters not thrilled with the quality.

Well pirates of the Caribbean 4 was boring and pointless watching in 3d. #waste 1 hour ago via Twitter for iPhone · powered by @socialditto

Ty Burr of the Boston Globe wrote an interesting piece about the way 3D projectors in many theaters are dampening the quality of 2D films. Theaters are running normal films through the 3D lenses, and it is having a detrimental effect on the brightness.

Ty Burr’s experience around the Boston area:

These are the auditoriums using new digital projectors that are transforming the movie exhibition business, machines that entirely do away with celluloid. The “film’’ comes in the form of a software file, and the projector pumps it onto the screen at high intensity.

Why, then, do so many of the movies look so terrible? This particular night “Limitless,’’ “Win Win,’’ and “Source Code’’ all seemed strikingly dim and drained of colors. “Jane Eyre,’’ a film shot using candles and other available light, appeared to be playing in a crypt. A visit to the Regal Fenway two weeks later turned up similar issues: “Water for Elephants’’ and “Madea’s Big Happy Family’’ were playing in brightly lit 35mm prints and, across the hall, in drastically darker digital versions.

The problem is with the 3D lens, and its polarization.

For 3-D showings a special lens is installed in front of a Sony digital projector that rapidly alternates the two polarized images needed for the 3-D effect to work.

When you’re running a 2-D film, that polarization device has to be taken out of the image path. If they’re not doing that, it’s crazy, because you’ve got a big polarizer that absorbs 50 percent of the light.

So why would theaters fail to remove the 3D lenses? Money. Time and Money.

What about 3D on its own, though? No matter that the 3D technology may be harming 2D quality, what about 3D films themselves?

Famous film editor Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now) talks about the problems with 3D in a letter to Roger Ebert. He says that besides the problems of 3D films being dark and small, they ask us to do things with our eyes and brains that we aren’t really wired for, evolutionarily.

The biggest problem with 3D, though, is the “convergence/focus” issue. A couple of the other issues — darkness and “smallness” — are at least theoretically solvable. But the deeper problem is that the audience must focus their eyes at the plane of the screen — say it is 80 feet away. This is constant no matter what.

But their eyes must converge at perhaps 10 feet away, then 60 feet, then 120 feet, and so on, depending on what the illusion is. So 3D films require us to focus at one distance and converge at another. And 600 million years of evolution has never presented this problem before. All living things with eyes have always focused and converged at the same point.

And that explains the headaches and disorientation that many people report during 3D films. By watching a 3D films, you may be overheating your brain, so to speak.

But before you tell me how much of a spoilsport I am, let me clarify. I don’t believe the 3D film technology is the bane of our existence. I liked Avatar 3D, although it was a little dark. Toy Story 3D was just fine and dandy.

But do we need to make everything in 3D? Is that really the desired style for every film we see? And can be please stop showing normal films through 3D lenses please?

To me, the problem theaters have now is quite ironic. If people continue to choose 2D over 3D like with the latest Pirates film, and 2D quality is lacking in many theaters because of 3D projectors, will people still come?

From Roger Ebert’s post, “The dying of the light”

The movie industry feels under threat these days from DVDs, cable movies on demand, a dozen streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Fandor and Mubi, and competition from video games. Decades ago, it felt a similar danger from radio (it introduced talkies) and television (it introduced wide-screen). The irony today is that it hopes to rescue itself with 3D, which is not an improvement but a step back in quality.

And what about file sharing? If the theaters aren’t going to provide viewers with anything to draw them out of their homes, why not just download the film? I’ve got a big screen HD TV and 59 cent popcorn. The film looks great to me at home.

What do you think of 3D? Is it the way of the future? Or is it hurting the film industry at its core? Let us know in the comments.
