  • Allison Williams Talks Sex Scenes, Likes Causing Discomfort

Allison Williams flew past fans on their TV screens during the Christmas season as the star of Peter Pan, and now she’s back–and talking about sex scenes. How might that make her dad, NBC News anchor Brian Williams feel? Clearly it doesn’t bother his daughter, as she admits to loving the sex scenes–even the awkward ones she plays on the hit TV series Girls.

“I take great pride in playing those moments,” she said during a recent interview with ET. “It’s become my little pet favorite project. Because I just like pushing the envelope.”

Allison Williams was in New York on Monday, celebrating the premiere of the fourth season of Girls. She plays the role of Marnie, who frequently finds herself in awkward sexual situations. She claims said awkwardness allows her to really have fun playing her role.

“I love making people uncomfortable,” Williams said. “And when people say, ‘I cringed watching [that] scene,’ that’s the biggest compliment you can give me.”

Something that isn’t making Allison Williams uncomfortable at all is talk of motherhood. The actress is engaged to College Humor co-founder Ricky Van Veen, and plans for their wedding are underway. Lately Allison has hounded every actress she knows who is either pregnant or has kids, and asked how she balances motherhood with her career.

“I have a lot of questions: How do I get to a place in my career where I can go be a mom for a little while, and then come back and be a mom and an actress at the same time?” she asks in the February issue of Glamour. She graces the magazine’s February cover, too.

“Every time I find a woman in film, an actress who has kids, I, like a sociopath, corner her and ask, ‘How did it work?’ Everyone says, ‘Don’t think so much.’ [Jemima Kirke], from Girls, is always saying, ‘Just get pregnant! Just have a baby.’ And I’m like, ‘You are so much cooler than I am.’ I love what I do, but I have no doubt that when I start my family, that’s life. This is my job, but that’s life,” Williams, who clearly isn’t a sociopath, but perhaps just a bit of a perfectionist, added.

The fourth season of the hit HBO series premieres this coming Sunday, January 11th, at 9:00 PM.

Do you expect by season five Allison Williams might be expecting? Will Brian Williams one day in the near future announce during the NBC Nightly News that he is soon to be a grandfather?

  • Minnie Driver to Star in NBC’s ‘Peter Pan Live!’

NBC this week announced that Academy Award nominee Minnie Driver will be part of the network’s upcoming Peter Pan Live! special. The actress will narrate the program as an adult version of Wendy Darling.

“We’re thrilled to have Minnie as part of this ‘Peter Pan’ adventure,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment. “She appears in the final emotional scene when Peter returns to the Darling home years later only to realize Wendy is now grown up and has a daughter of her own, but you’ll also hear her voice throughout the movie since adult Wendy is also our narrator. She’s a classy addition to our wonderful cast.”

Peter Pan Live! is a live-action production of the Peter Pan broadway musical. It stars Christopher Walken as Captain Hook and Girls star Allison Williams as Peter Pan. The production will air live on NBC at 8 pm EST on December 4.

The production is a follow-up to the successful The Sound of Music Live!, which aired last December on NBC.

During the week before Peter Pan Live! airs NBC will broadcast a behind-the-scenes look at the production called The Making of Peter Pan Live!. The show will follow the production from beginning to end including casting, costume design, stunt coordination, and dress rehearsals. The hour-long show will air at 8 pm EST on November 26.

Driver confirmed her role in Peter Pan Live! via Twitter and stated that she loves Peter Pan:

Driver is best-known for her roles in movies such as Grosse Point Blank and Good Will Hunting. More recently the actress was nominated for a 2014 Primetime Emmy award for her role in the Lifetime movie Return to Zero. She currently stars in the NBC TV series About a Boy.

  • Rose McGowan Gets An Adolf Hitler Haircut

Rose McGowan Gets An Adolf Hitler Haircut

Rose McGowan’s hair just keeps getting shorter and shorter. As People Magazine’s Style News pointed out, it went from a ponytail to a bob in July, three weeks ago it was cut to right below the ears, and two weeks ago she made it into a full chop.

How does she describe her new haircut? Her official haircut Instagram post came with the following caption: “I look like Hitler’s stoned cousin #newhair #notstoned #hitlersucked”.

E! News kindly made a list of potential comparisons McGowan could have made to describe her new haircut, instead of choosing to showcase a genocidal dictator:

    1. Charlie Chaplin without a moustache
    2. Anne Hathaway
    3. Hilary Swank in Boys Don’t Cry
    4. Orange Is the New Black‘s Big Boo

They also suggested she take her cue from other celebrities like Miranda Lambert, who simply said “Fresh cut! Fresh color!” in her own Instagram post. Although Lambert did not get it cut as short as McGowan, there are celebrities out there with short haircuts who managed to avoid a Hitler reference, like Kaley Cuoco who wrote: ” “Thank you @clsymonds for bringing out my inner Peter Pan 🙂 #byronbeverlyhills #justcutitoff”.”

It makes you wonder why McGowan couldn’t have just made a safe Peter Pan reference.

While McGowan may have been inspired by Hitler, the singer managed to be a source of inspiration herself for Amber Rose at the VMAs this year. Described by People Magazine as “a sparkly series of chains linked to create the illusion of a dress, over a sparkly G-string,” Rose’s dress was a shoutout to the dress McGowan wore to the 1998 VMAs. Rose even made it on Billboard’s list of the best 2014 VMA moments with the comment, “Nice throwback, Amber!”

  • Allison Williams Cast as Peter Pan in NBC Live Show

Over the past year, the world has gotten to know a secret side of NBC Nightly News’s Brian Williams – that being the fact that the man can rap. Thanks to the time and effort from Jimmy Fallon and crew from The Tonight Show, Williams has now been featured in seven rap videos, spitting lyrics from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch all the way to N.W.A. And, with the latest announcement from NBC, we now know that this singing skill is a hereditary trait that his daughter, Allison, has inherited.

NBC’s live production of Peter Pan will debut on December 4 of this year. It was earlier confirmed that NBC had cast Christopher Walken as Hook, and yesterday the network announced its decision for the casting of Peter Pan:

(Yes, that is an adorable, yet highly embarrassing, father-daughter moment between Brian Williams and his daughter on national television.)

While some people may scream about the apparent sidedness of said decision –

    – others are terribly excited about the talents that Allison Williams brings to the stage as one of literature’s greatest protagonists of all times:

Williams, relatively new to acting, currently stars in HBO’s hit series, Girls, and has made appearances in Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project. While her role as Marnie on Girls is drastically different than anything she will have to do to portray Peter Pan, she has displayed one skill which made her very attractive to NBC executives – singing.

Not only will Williams have to sing her way through NBC’s live performance, she will also be responsible for flying and sword-fighting, a combination of skills which will challenge the 26-year-old actress like no role ever has. Luckily for her, she has been training for said role for quite some time.

NBC executive Robert Greenblatt voiced his excitement over the casting of Williams, stating, “We couldn’t be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan. She’s a lovely rising star on the award-winning show Girls—where she occasionally shows off her incredible vocal talent—and we think she will bring the perfect blend of ‘boyish’ vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken’s powerful Captain Hook.”

NBC is hoping to ride on the coattails of its most recent live production this past Christmas season – The Sound of Music. Despite criticism of Carrie Underwood’s performance, the broadcast picked up approximately 21 million viewers, a number NBC could not afford to pass-up with another live show.

  • Christopher Walken To Play Captain Hook In NBC’s Peter Pan Live

Christopher Walken, the 71-year-old Oscar-winning actor, will play Captain Hook in a live version of Peter Pan on NBC.

“I started my career in musicals and it’s wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child,” the actor said according to Mashable. “It’s a chance to put on my tap shoes again.” “It’s a chance to put on my tap shoes again.”

Remember that live version of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood that gained 65 million viewers and four Emmy nominations? This project is done by the same people. They also have plans to do a live version of The Music Man, according to Deadline.

“He’s not only one of the most versatile actors in our business, but his love of musicals and uncanny abilities as a dancer make him perfect for stepping into this classic James M. Barrie character,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt added. “Get ready to be charmed, amused, frightened and dazzled by Captain Hook in an entirely original way.”

There is, however, no Peter Pan cast yet. The producers wanted Kristen Bell to play that part, but she cannot due to scheduling conflicts. The producers are still looking for an actress to fill the part.

Walken most famously showed off his ability to dance in the 2003 Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” music video.

Plus, the actor’s dancing skills have been recently complied in a video that went viral a few months ago. It happens to feature 57 films that show Walken dancing. Hopefully NBC will take advantage of that skill in their production of Peter Pan.

  • Rooney Mara Casting as Tiger Lily Sparks Controversy

Actress Rooney Mara is no stranger to the dust-up that inevitably occurs after a film adaptation of a novel announces its cast list. Her role as Lisbeth Salander in the American adaptations of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo subjected her to both novel fans’ idealistic expectations and comparisons to Swedish adaptation actress Noomi Rapace.

However, her latest casting as Tiger Lily in the upcoming Warner Bros. Peter Pan adaptation Pan is ruffling feathers for a much different reason.

The reason: Tiger Lily is a Native American princess. Rooney Mara is of Irish, German, French-Canadian and Italian descent, but not Native American.

The backlash was immediate. With the number of Native American roles already so small, many asked, why give Tiger Lily’s role to a white actress? Native American roles make up only a minuscule .3 percent of total roles, according to the Screen Actors Guild 2007 and 2008 Casting Data Reports.

A Care2 petition asking Warner Bros. to reconsider their casting decision has already accrued 7,878 signatures out of their desired 8,000. With tensions already simmering after Johnny Depp’s casting as Tonto in The Lone Ranger last year, social media exploded. Actress Felicia Day tweeted her displeasure.

The studio also considered Mexican-Kenyan actress Lupita Nyonog’o and French actress Adele Exarchopoulos for the role of Tiger Lily. So far, it appears a Native American actress was not seriously considered for the role.

Nonetheless, Variety reported that the film’s world is to be “multi-racial/international – and a very different character than previously imagined.” However, the current cast list does not seem promising. Mara will star beside Garret Hedlund as Hook, Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard and Levi Miller as Pan. Adeel Akhtar is reportedly slated to play Mr. Smee, the only sign of that “multi-racial” world evident so far.

Pan will be released in July 2015.

  • Bill Murray Does Peter Pan on ‘Letterman’

Bill Murray Does Peter Pan on ‘Letterman’

Bill Murray flew on to the Late Show With David Letterman stage on Friday in full Peter Pan regalia.

“I’m flying…Look at me way up high, thinking I’m going to die,” Murray sang. “I want to see what a lovely thing I am to see. I’m flying.”

It was a bit reminiscent of his role in the 1991 comedy What About Bob, where he was attached to the front of a sailboat exclaiming, “I’m sailing!”

Murray decided that if Carrie Underwood could star as Maria in The Sound of Music, that surely he could star on TV as Peter Pan.

When David Letterman asked Bill why he was dressed as Peter Pan–once he was safely back on the floor–the actor replied as follows.

“First – I love to fly. And second, there’s been a big thing, this Carrie Underwood. She did The Sound of Music,” he said. “I feel that this is my moment. They are talking about restaging Peter Pan, and I think I’m the guy.”

Following Murray’s Peter Pan stint he complained to Letterman about his beard, so the late night host shaved it off for him. The two went on to chat about the Super Bowl with Bill Murray saying he had tickets and mocking those who feared and complained about the cold weather–noting that he is from Illinois.

“You’re urine freezes in Illinois’. This is nothing,” he quipped.

One would expect the role of Peter Pan would be filled by someone a bit slighter in stature than Bill Murray. Cathy Rigby played Peter Pan on Broadway. She definitely is significantly smaller than the former SNL funny man.

NBC is actually planning for a live airing of Peter Pan next December–the way they aired The Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood this past December. The live broadcast is slated for December 4, 2014.

Do you think Bill Murray has a shot at the lead?

  • NBC Plans a Peter Pan Live Production

At the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Ca, NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt announced NBC’s plans for the upcoming television year. He revealed Parks and Recreation seventh season renewal, and unveiled two new miniseries. The eight episode miniseries, based on an Australian drama called The Slap, follows the repercussions of slapping a non-relative child. Their other mini-series, Emerald City, is a 10-episode reimaging of the Wizard of Oz. It follows a stubborn 20-Something Dorothy battling to gain control of Oz.

Greenblatt’s biggest announcement was NBC’s plans for a live-musical production of Peter Pan. Carrie Underwood’s live-production of The Sound of Music drew 18.6 million viewers.  The network quickly announced plans to do another live production after those numbers were publicized. NBC decided to make the production Peter Pan because it has family appeal. Children and adults can get equal enjoyment out of watching it. Additionally, NBC has done live broadcasts of Peter Pan before. In 1955, they did the famous Mary Martin version, and then adapted it again in 1956 and 1960.

Despite the huge ratings, NBC’s The Sound of Music received poor reviews. The network is likely to use caution with their casting decisions and rehearsals this time around.

At the press conference, Greenblatt joked that he planned to cast Miley Cyrus as Peter. Joking aside,he firmly stated plans to have a male play the role of Peter, unlike their original version. He also ruled out Justin Bieber as a possible Pan. NBC will probably try to hire someone with enough name recognition to draw in a younger audience, but also ensure that they can sing and act to please critics.

Peter Pan is a hot topic right now for the media. ABC’s series Once Upon a Time did an entire story arc this season revolving around Pan, and there is a Pan origin movie being released next year.

Is this too much Pan for fans?

NBC’s live-musical production of Peter Pan airs on December 4, nearly a year after The Sound of Music’s live production aired.
