    Dolly Parton Performs At Glastonbury

Dolly Parton recently fulfilled one her lifetime dreams of performing at Glastonbury Festival, one of England’s most anticipated summer events.

Parton performed several of her songs in front of 150,000 fans at the normally muddy event at Worthy Farm in southwest England.

“This is a very exciting day for me and we’ve got all kinds of things going on,” Parton said at the pre-show press conference. “Look, I don’t have a bit of mud on me! When I was coming in this morning I was looking at all the mud and thinking, this is not that different from where I grew up in the mud. My daddy was a farmer in East Tennessee and I grew up on a farm — mud is mud wherever you go.”

Dolly had even penned a song about mud to sing for the occasion, however the day was mostly pretty and sunny. Before the performance began, Parton told reporters that she had to cut some songs to meet the time allotted to her, so she decided to focus more on her upbeat songs rather than the slow, sappy songs.

“I thought, well, I can’t do a bunch of sad, slow songs because everybody is drunk and high and we don’t want to bring them down that bad, so there are two or three songs that they have to hear like maybe Coat of Many Colors and a few things that are a part of my whole life and my background,” she said. “But we’ve tried to do a set where we can kind of keep it moving pretty good.”

  • Beyoncé and Jay Z’s Grammy Performance: Too Racy?

Beyoncé Jay Z totally turned up the heat in last night’s Grammy performance of “Drunk in Love.”

The 56th annual award show kicked off with the Queen Bey provocatively straddling a chair with her back to the audience showing off her brilliant behind. The star sported a black thong complete with lined panty hose and a sheer bustier. Her hair was cropped and wet, giving off a sexy “Flash Dance” look.

While the song “Drunk in Love” contains a verse for Jay Z, the live Grammy collaboration was only confirmed a few days prior in a CBS commercial.

The performance continued as Beyoncé slithered on top of her chair, rocking her hips and shooting out dangerous glances into the audience. The stage belonged to her and the audience fell victim as well.

Around three minutes into the song, Jay Z charged the stage ready to join his other half. Beyonce stood up, taking her place alongside the chair allowing her husband to take the stage. She danced patiently behind him, careful not to give away too much as he performed.

The audience simply couldn’t stand the chemistry, screaming and chanting for the two who were clearly in love. She was captivated by him just like the audience was by her.

While some people were mesmerized by the opening performance, others were outraged saying the act was just too provocative.

Were you offended by sultry performance or did you view it as just that-as a performance?

The news of the snow is causing people to think about changing the date of the game because of the harsh and snowy weather conditions that are already being predicted, courtesy of the Farmer’s Almanac.

The musical series will start off with The Roots on January 30th, followed by Imagine Dragons a day later. Foo Fighters will be the headliner, supported by Zac Brown Band. Bruno Mars is the musician scheduled to perform the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

In addition to the Foo Fighters, and the other musical guests that will be featured throughout the days leading up to the Super Bowl, the cruise ship will offer lodging for 4,000 guests in 1,900 staterooms for fans that wish to see their favorite musicians performing on a cruise ship.

  • Katy Perry Takes Over SNL

    Katy Perry Takes Over SNL

Tarzan’s Jane has nothing on Katy Perry! Yesterday on Saturday Night Live, the platinum-selling singer’s lauded performance spoke volumes. Perry’s Saturday Night Live performance has been highly anticipated by millions across the country. But, judging from Twitter, no one was more excited than the “Fireworks” singer herself. She tweeted numerous times in the hours leading up to her return to SNL. From dress rehearsal, all the way up to the minutes before she hit the stage, she kept the fans with her every step of the way.

Perry’s first set was exactly what the fans wanted. She performed her eighth No.1 charting single, “Roar.” In a jungle-themed backdrop, Perry ripped the stage, taking fans into the visual world of the “Roar” music video. The SNL stage was transformed into a tropical paradise with vibrant greenery and lush palm trees. Adorned in animal print, Perry performed with a live band and full background singers.

Perry also did a second performance, introducing her latest dance track, “Walking on Air.” Released Sept. 30 via iTunes, “Walking on Air” was declared a promotional single for Perry’s highly anticipated album, “Prism,” reports Billboard. Perry stripped out of the jungle look, trading her animal print for plaid. She took fans straight to the club with the heart-pounding, 90s-influenced, retro Eurodance-house beat of the song. It was also noted that 90s singers Crystal Waters and CeCe Peniston were dominant inspirations for the record.

Perry also tweeted “Goodnight” to the world after her second set. Her latest album, “Prism” is set to be released October 22.

  • Twitter Increasing The Speed At Which You Access Tweets

I think Twitter is pretty fast and I bet most of the service’s users do as well. Pretty fast is never good enough, however, so the microblogging site has gone back to the drawing board to make it even faster. The updates being implemented today are going to make Twitter faster than a file download in South Korea.

For a bit of background first, Dan Webb, Engineering Manager at Twitter, explains that the last major update to Twitter back in 2010 pushed all of the rendering onto the user’s browser. It helped speed along some processes, but there are some things that only a server can accomplish. That’s why the new Twitter is moving rendering back to the server. The most immediate change is that initial page load times should be one-fifth of what they were.

Sure, Twitter is faster now, but that can’t be the only change, right? Of course not. Webb says that the new Twitter now runs on a new modular JavaScript application that will allow them to easily develop and add new features to Twitter. It also lets them take advantage of the explosive growth that we’re seeing in Web applications thanks to HTML5.

There’s more work going on under the hood over at Twitter besides performance upgrades and new JavaScript applications. You may have noticed that Tweet permalink pages no longer have the hashbang. The hashbang, which you may recognize as this little guy (#!), was a cornerstone of Tweet permalink pages everywhere. Turns out, however, that getting ride of the little rascal actually helped improve page-load speed.

The team at Twitter also looked at what they call “time to first Tweet.” This is a measure of time that looks at how long it takes from clicking a link to viewing the first Tweet on a user’s timeline. They found that people weren’t seeing anything until the JavaScript was downloaded and installed. That caused a problem for older machines and older browsers. Instead of fixing JavaScript, they just got rid of it. The page will now load all the way and then begin executing JavaScript well after the user has already seen the first Tweet.

Speaking of JavaScript, Twitter has completely overhauled how it executes its code. First they minimized the amount of JavaScript that was actually being used. They found that the page was loading code that it didn’t really need which only served to slow everything down. Now Twitter only loads up the code that it needs when it needs it dramatically decreasing the time it takes to load hilarious Twitter trends.

Twitter will continue working on improvements to make the site faster in the coming months. It’s an exciting time for Twitter from both a user and developer point of view. The user gets the increased speed and developers get to see some exciting work from one of the biggest friends of the open source community.

  • New Energy Drink For Gamers Boasts “Faster Reactions, No Distractions”

Have you ever been on a gaming bender, I mean a real gaming bender – the I’m-not-leaving-the-couch-except-to-pee-and-maybe-not-even-then type of marathon? Man cannot live on pizza and beer alone if they want to spend the next 14 hours leveling up in Modern Warfare 3. Man (girls too, of course) needs energy.

Take any claims by anyone promoting a new product with a grain of salt, but a new energy shot called “GungHo” promises that it’ll give you “faster reaction, no distractions.” It is being marketed as an alternative to other energy drinks like RedBull and 5-Hour Energy, as GungHo claims that they will produce that “crash and jitters” response after a few hours of gameplay. And who need their hands shaking when they have a n00b in their sights, right?

GungHo has a former Harvard professor on board, who said,

“GungHo is the only energy shot or drink that contains natural ingredients at proven effective doses to improve focus and concentration. Unlike other energy products that deal with short-term energy and no lasting impact on brain energy, GungHo will actually increase levels of critical neurotransmitters in the brain over time.”

Here’s how GungHo could turn you into a ninja. A snarky Ninja who isn’t a big fan of Ninja Gaiden III, apparently:

GungHo comes to you from Salt Lake City, and their list of claims are an “increase in focus, concentration, memory storage, and memory recall, while avoiding the harsh rush, jitters, and crash common with other energy products.”

According to site’s FAQ, GungHo takers could experience a loss of appetite and a period of hot flush, similar with other energy drinks.

One guy, indentified as a “professional gamer” had this to say:

“GungHo eliminates the delay between my wrist and my brain. Any FPS gamer knows keeping your cool and controlling your reactions is imperative. GungHo not only helps me plan my course of action but ups my reaction time exponentially.”

Is this the real deal? An energy drink specifically made for gamers? Any gamers out there have experience with various types of energy drinks? Let us know in the comments
