  • Jennette McCurdy Makes Lame Statement

Jennette McCurdy has had a lot of things happen lately that would make her want to bury her head in the sand from embarrassment. Like leaked photos of her in her delicates that may or may not have ultimately shut down Sam & Cat, her show with Ariana Grande.

The rumors of a raging feud between Jennette McCurdy and Grande over salary would also be a bit of an embarrassment.

However, this week Jennette McCurdy kinda added a cherry to the top of the fiasco. In an interview, she made a statement that was…well…a little childish.

When speaking of her 2600 sq. ft. mansion in Studio City, Ca., she said, “I picked out all of the furniture myself, and that makes me proud.”

As though that were a big accomplishment worth noting. Would that fall under the category of first world accomplishments?

There’s nothing wrong with being proud of possessing the skill to go to a really expensive furniture store and pick out whatever you like because you’re a TV star and, well, you can. Jennette McCurdy, like so many of us do, realized that the statement was ridiculous almost as soon as it came out of her mouth.

She posted to Instagram for a little self-chastisement.

“A piece on me and my home in the latest @People magazine home issue. ‘I picked out all my own furniture, and that makes me proud. That quote doesn’t make me proud lol,” she said.

The piece was about her home, which she says centers around her lovely bedroom.

“My whole setup is bedroom-centric. I order a pizza, then set the box on my bed. I read in bed. I even have an office, but I never go in it to do work; I just plop my laptop on my bed. It feels like a comfy little haven.”

Poor Jennette McCurdy. She made a dumb statement just like we all do. But, it is kinda nice not to have the dumb things we say published for people all over the world to read!

  • Cheryl Burke Condemns Body Bullies Who Attacked Her on Facebook

Cheryl Burke recently condemned those who posted rude comments on her Facebook page after she shared photos of herself in Cabo San Lucas.

Burke began sharing photos from her trip on July 6. It didn’t take long for the weight-related comments to start.

When Burke posted a photo captioned “First dinner in Cabos,” one fan commented “Eat something good. You don’t look like Cheryl to me.”

When Burke, who is known for interacting with fans on social media, replied “I don’t look like me?” several fans jumped to her rescue, but one qualified her compliment by admonishing Burke not to lose more weight.

The comments only got worse from there, with some accusing Burke of having plastic surgery on her face and one commenter asking “What the heck happened to your lips???”

“It’s one thing to see negative comments about yourself in the press, it’s another to be criticized by individual people on your own social media pages,” Burke said. “It’s much more personal. It hurts.”

“I’ve had some time to think about it all and I’ve found strength in just letting it go. I can’t let myself get hurt by it. I also can’t shut down and not post anything online,” she continued. “There are all different types of people out there who are going to say all kinds of things, online and in real life. The important thing is to know which ones to listen to.”

It’s not the first time Burke has spoken out about public criticism of her weight. In May she posted a defense of her weight loss on Facebook following an appearance in People’s “Most Talked About Bodies” issue.

Burke posed in a bikini for the spread, revealing she’d went from 135 pounds to around 120.

Besides eating smaller portions of healthier food, Burke said morning workouts with friend and neighbor Leah Remini have contributed to her slimmer, more defined figure.

Burke, 30, was the first female professional dancer to win Dancing with the Stars and the first professional to win two consecutive seasons. She won season two with dance partner Drew Lachey of 98 Degrees and followed up with a season three win when she partnered with retired football player Emmitt Smith.

Burke has danced every ensuing season of the show. Season 19 is set to premiere on ABC in the fall. Cast members haven’t been officially announced.

  • Kristen Bell Campaigns for “No Kids Policy” for Paparazzi

Actress Kristen Bell is taking her No Kids Policy for paparazzi to the next level as she continues the fight against unauthorized media use of celebrity kids images.

Bell and her husband Dax Shepard launched the movement in January 2014 out of concern for their daughter Lincoln and other celebrity children like her.

Other celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lawrence, quickly jumped on board.

After securing support from colleagues, Bell moved to put pressure on television and print outlets that use images of celebrity kids without parental consent. She did so by threatening that if they didn’t comply with her No Kids Policy, celebrities would effectively boycott the outlet, choosing instead to promote their projects with media sources that had adopted the policy.

In the next phase of her campaign, Bell will focus on the end consumer, asking them to consider the circumstances surrounding the images that appear in the media they consume. She’ll attempt to get her message out with a series of media interviews and meetings with mommy bloggers.

“The consumer is the only one who can put an end to this. They are the only ones with real power,” Shepard wrote in January.

Referring to the anti-paparazzi law that was passed in California last September, Shepard wrote that while he supported it and hoped it would hold up in court, ” .. it only really addressed the supply side of the equation, and not the demand … as long as people pay good money to buy magazines featuring famous people’s children, there will be men popping out of bushes and lurking around playgrounds to get those pics.”

Bell feels so strongly about the negative implications of paparazzi intrusion in celebrity kids’ lives that she would consider giving up her acting career if push came to shove.

“I like being an actress very much,” she said, “but I love being a mother and it is a very clear decision which one I would choose.”

Shepard said that since he and Bell brought their daughter home from the hospital in October 2013, there has been a car or two parked across the street from their home at all times, waiting to snap photos of the family when they leave the house.

“We think that people who like looking at children in magazines must actually like children. We are betting on the chance that they like them enough to protect them from constantly being shadowed by strange men … We pray that one of the classier weeklies, like People, will enact a no-kids policy, and that they will be rewarded by the consumer for doing so,” Shepard wrote. “And we hope that leads to others following suit. It would be miraculous if the situation changed and celebrities’ children got to be just children. And it would be even more miraculous if that change came from the will of the people and not legislation.”

  • Christie Brinkley Needs A Date Her Own Age

Christie Brinkley rose to stardom in the ’80s as a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and spent 25 years as the face of CoverGirl; as the tall, tanned blonde who stole Clark Griswold’s heart in “National Lampoon’s Vacation”, she epitomized the girl-next-door beauty that every woman dreamed of attaining. Now, as she’s about to turn 60, she says it’s getting harder and harder to find a date…but it has nothing to do with fading beauty.

Brinkley looks almost exactly the same as she always has, but she says that finding a man her age who is available is nearly impossible.

“It seems like during this period that most of the guys are like 38, 39, 42, like that sort of age group,” Brinkley said in a recent interview. “It’s funny because I think that at that age they have nothing to prove. They’re very confident and do they just what they want to do.” [With] men my age I feel quite invisible to them.”

But when it comes to feeling and looking good, Brinkley knows what she’s doing. The mother of three says she still wears a bikini…just not in public when her kids are around.

“My kids would be so embarrassed!” she said. “In private I may wear a bikini, but at the public beach with my kids I would change bathing suits because they do not want to be hanging out with some old broad in a bikini…I’m actually excited about turning 60. I feel on top of my game.”

Check out Brinkley showing off her swimsuit bod on the cover of People Magazine.

“She looks phenomenal,” said MJ Day, senior editor for Sports Illustrated. “She has the legs of a 30-year-old and the face of an angel. She’s what you aspire to look like at 60. She’s mind-blowingly beautiful.”

  • Daryl Hannah Opens Up About Autism Struggle

Daryl Hannah recently revealed to People her childhood autism diagnosis and the hardship she experienced as a result of the disorder. Although it’s hard to imagine such a huge star having issues with shyness, she says that was the main problem. Now that she’s older and learned to deal with the issues that come along with autism, she feels free to speak out.

Autism is a disorder that affects people in a way that makes social interaction and verbal communication and non-verbal communication incredibly hard, and in some cases, very restricted. Usually children are diagnosed with autism around the age of three.

Hannah admitted that, though she was very successful in her teenage years, she hid her disease from producers. “I’ve never been comfortable being the center of attention,” Hannah said, describing the “debilitating shyness” and insecurity she felt about her diagnosis. She also said she refused to do public appearances in those early years, “not because I was above it, but because I was terrified. I’m a grown up now. I’ve learned a couple of things that really would’ve made my life easier if I’d known them 20 years ago,” she said.

The pressures of Hollywood are overwhelming enough without dealing with autism. Despite that fact, she lit up Hollywood in movies like “Splash”, “Steel Magnolias”, “Blade Runner” and “Wall Street”, but none would suspect she was hiding such a secret. She used to rock incessantly, and still does, but has learned to control it, reports the Daily Mail.

Although now Daryl Hannah isn’t in the limelight or starring in lead roles, the actress has said that she is happy where she is in her life, and she hopes her struggles will open more eyes to autism.

The issue of People with this interview hits stands today.

  • Microsoft Updates Mail, Calendar and People Apps On Windows 8

Windows 8 users have probably come to know three apps very well – Mail, Calendar and People. To help provide a better experience to those using these apps, Microsoft has released an update that improves overall stability while adding new features.

For many, the Mail app is probably the most used app in the Metro interface. As such, Microsoft is making it easier to access mail, especially for those with multiple accounts. The new version of the Mail app now displays all your accounts, and allows users to toggle between them with ease.

The new Mail app can also filter unread messages, or you can put mails into separate folders. A lot of these features are already present in popular email clients like Gmail, but it’s nice to see Microsoft finally adding these features into its own Mail app.

The Calendar app received a few small updates, including colored appointments to make the calendar “easier to read.” The Calendar also features a new Work week view for those who operate on a Monday through Friday schedule.

The People app received a new update in the form of easier sharing. Now users can right-click or swipe from the top to reveal app commands. These commands allow you to easily move between your own profile and the What’s New page that features updates from your friend’s various social network accounts.

Unfortunately, the updates haven’t been completely painless for some. The Verge is reporting that Windows 8 users with a Google account are seeing errors related to Google discontinuing support for Exchange ActiveSync. Google dropping support for EAS was expected, but those who had set up a Google account on Windows 8 before January 30 were promised that they could still use it.

There’s no fix available for Gmail users just yet, but everybody else should be able to take advantage of the new apps without any problem. To do so, just hit up the Microsoft Store Settings, click (or tap) on App Updates, and select the Check for Updates option.

  • Channing Tatum “Sexiest Man Alive”?

    Channing Tatum “Sexiest Man Alive”?

Channing Tatum has made “sexiest” lists for years now, but landing the top spot in the coveted issue of People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” is a different story altogether, and many are speculating that he’s done just that.

The issue won’t be available until next week, but rumors are flying that he’s taken the prize this year nonetheless. If so, he’ll join the likes of Mila Kunis and Miranda Kerr, who took Esquire Magazine’s top spots in America and the UK, respectively, for sexiest woman alive this year.

People refuses to give in to reader demands, saying they won’t give any hints as to who the lucky guy is.

“We never comment on who the Sexiest Man Alive is until the issue is revealed,” their rep said in a statement.

Former winners include last year’s Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds; the magazine took some heat for overlooking Ryan Gosling last year.

  • Lists Of The Most Important Internet Personalities

Internet Evolution has come up with their first-ever list of the top 100 most innovative and influential people in the Web 2.0 world. In the social networking category, Mark Zuckerberg, the Founder of Facebook, beat out Kevin Rose, the Founder of Digg. In the search category, the heads of Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo! were named, but surprisingly Jason Calacanis of Mahalo was named, as well.

Internet Evolution has narrowed down the list into 10 different categories, which include the most innovative and influential people in each category:
    Social Networking
    Enterprise & Cloud Computing
    News/Media
    Greentech
    Wireless & Gadgets
    E-Commerce
    Search
    Security
    Digital Entertainment
    Most Over-Rated

I am particularly interested in the Search category, where Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the Founders of Google, were named first. Stefan Weitz of Microsoft and Carol Bartz of Yahoo were also named, and Jason Calacanis was also named in the Search category.

Here is the list of the top 10 most innovative and influential people in search:

    1. Larry Page, Founder, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG)
    2. Stefan Weitz, Director of Search, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT)
    3. Carol Bartz, CEO, Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO)
    4. Jason Calacanis, Founder, Mahalo.com Inc.
    5. Robin Li, originator of Baidu Inc. (Nasdaq: BIDU) search technology

    8. Jack Ma, Founder, Alibaba.com Hong Kong Ltd.
    9. Alan Emtage, creator of pre-Web search engine Archie
    10. Suranga Chandratillake, CEO, blinkx

Being in the search industry, I’m not sure if I totally agree with this list, as there are some websites that are in the list that I don’t necessarily think are really “search engines”. I would also name a few individuals like Danny Sullivan to the search category before I named Jason Calacanis to the search category.
