  • Payday 2 Gets Some Holiday Themed DLC

With the rise of DLC, games can now more accurately accommodate the holidays with additional content not found in the base game. Saints Row IV is already doing it, and now Payday 2 is offering some holiday themed content as well.

This week, Overkill Software announced that Payday 2 will be getting a free DLC pack called The Charlie Santa Heist. The heist gives players a new heist to complete that’s based on a map from Counter Strike: Global Offensive. While that’s not exactly holiday-themed, players will be able to don a Santa Claus mask while carrying out the heist.

What’s interesting about this announcement is that Overkill Software calls this the first annual “Overkill Xmas heist.” That implies that the studio plans on releasing a new holiday themed heist every year. It certainly wouldn’t be the first co-op shooter to do so as Killing Floor has been hosting its “Twisted Christmas” event for the past several years.

Here’s a trailer showing the DLC heist in action:

As previously mentioned, the Charlie Santa Heist is available free of charge to all owners of the game. The PC version should have been automatically updated with the content already. There’s no word yet on if the content will be coming to the console versions.

  • Payday 2 Release Comes With An Impressive Launch Trailer

Overkill Games’ co-op first-person shooter opus is in stores now (digital and tangible), and to celebrate the occasion, the release of Payday 2 also features an impressive, cinematic-style trailer that gives players an idea of what’s in store for them. Granted, the game won’t be presented in such fashion, but you get the gist. While it may not be enjoying Dota 2-like numbers regarding players, a quick at the Payday 2’s Steam Hub page reveals over 50,000 players are currently enjoying the new release.

For comparison’s sake, there are currently over 250,000 people playing Dota 2. Meanwhile, there are only 10,000-plus people playing Black Ops 2. Clearly, gamers are excited about the new Payday. For those who are wondering what they can look forward to as they continue to take down scores of various shapes and sizes, the developers reveal they have a year’s worth of Payday 2 DLC on tap, including the introduction of a female character:

“There’s like a year of DLC planned… one of the first things I have on my list, is to make sure we get a female character. I’m hoping – I don’t know if we’ll get it as our first DLC, because we’d have to redo all the animations so it doesn’t look like a dude walking around with a female body. But I’d like to do that… [Overkill’s David Goldfarb] added, “Believe me, I have said this and we’ve talked about it, so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of when on the timeline.”

Payday 2 is available now on multiple platforms (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), and unlike many new releases, it only costs $29.99 for the Steam copy, and $39.99 for the physical console release.

  • Payday 2 Developers Walk Us Through The Perfect Heist

Payday 2’s August 13 is quickly approaching, and would be bank robbers are preparing for the biggest heist of their lives. Before they head out, however, they may want to see how the pros do it.

In a new trailer released today, the folks at Overkill Software walk us through 8 minutes of a heist. Previous trailers have focused on only one gameplay element, but they all come together here in a look at the new and improved gameplay of Payday 2.

In the walkthrough, it’s shown that players will have to pay attention to much more than just their equipment loadout in Payday 2. Players will also have to impersonate guards, disable cameras and prevent civilians from calling the police. Interestingly enough, players have full control over how much money they take, and they can even loot every lock box in the safe.

Payday 2 launches August 13 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

  • Every Heist Will Be Unique In Payday 2

Every Heist Will Be Unique In Payday 2

Payday 2 is already looking pretty good, but every little tidbit dropped by the developers at Overkill Software shows that they’re going way beyond the call of duty to make this one of the best shooters of the year.

In the latest trailer, Payday 2 director David Goldfarb discusses how they’re going to keep the game fresh so players will return to it time and time again. The key to this is called dynamics, and Goldfarb says that a level will be different every time you play it.

For example, he says that you may see a security guard in an alley on one mission. That same alley in the next mission may then feature two guards, or perhaps no guard but a witness that will call the police if they see you wielding a rifle. He says that players may also find that previously open doors will be closed upon subsequent playthroughs, or that the position of cameras will have been changed.

Another addition to the game this time around is the Escape section of the heist that will see players being transported to a different level, and be given an entirely different objective. In the above video, Goldfarb gives the example of players being trapped in a parking structure while defending their stolen loot from the police.

Payday 2 will be available on August 13 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

  • Payday 2 Gets A Customizable Safehouse

Payday 2 Gets A Customizable Safehouse

Any self-respecting criminal needs a safehouse that reflects their sense of style and personality. That’s why Payday 2 is giving would be bank robbers their very own fully customizable safehouse.

In a new trailer released today, Payday 2 game director David Goldfarb talks about the importance of the safehouse to the overall game experience. The safehouse’s primary function is to serve as a training ground for new and old players alike as they can try out all the tools and weapons found in the main game without the pressure of being on an actual heist.

Perhaps more importantly though, the safehouse also serves as a manifestation of the player’s personality. They can use the money stolen during heists to upgrade the safehouse with various items to make it uniquely theirs. The safehouse will also store all the money that you’ve stolen thus far in a realistic way. I would hope they let you swim in it Scrooge McDuck-style, but that might be asking for too much.

Payday 2 launches on August 13 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It launches August 27 for the PC on Steam.

  • Gameplay Video Offers An Extended Look at Payday 2

While the upcoming Payday 2 may not inspire rabid reactions in the vein of whatever iteration of Modern Warfare you’re enjoying, it’s hard to deny the appeal of the game that lets players cooperatively take down valuable scores. With the first iteration whetting the appetites of many PC gamers, it’s almost time for Overkill to deliver the second installment of the Payday franchise, and this one looks like it’s a more polished sequel for a title that shows a great deal of promise.

To prepare the masses, the marketing push has already begun, with gameplay previews and informative videos popping up at E3 and around the Internet. Now, courtesy of Gamespot’s YouTube page, we have a 20-plus minute playthrough video that showcases some new features in the sequel, including using stealth instead of the “guns blazing” approach. That said, it looks like the stealth approach is full of trial, error, iffy enemy AI, and frustration.

Maybe the straightforward approach is not only a little easier, but it may be the better tactic, at least if the stealth mechanics don’t improve between now and the release date. Other things to watch for: fencing the stolen merchandise after a successful heist is completed (about 8:00 minutes in), which subsequently goes wrong when the crew gets ambushed, which showcases the betrayal feature Overkill is including in the Payday sequel. Oh, and Bokeem Woodbine makes an appearance as well.

Combine the new features, especially getting rid of the loot after it’s stolen, with the refined leveling up process and it certainly appears as if Payday 2 could enjoy a very successful run with PC gamers when it hits the shelves on August 13.

  • Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Payday 2

What is Payday 2? Is it getting paid for two weeks in a row for a job well done? Or is it just two delicious candy bars? While both of those sound nice, it can really only be one thing – the upcoming co-op bank robbery shooter from Overkill Studios.

To learn all about Payday 2, watch this video of game director David Goldfarb walking players through what sets the Payday game and universe apart from pretty much every other shooter out there.

Goldfarb reveals that Payday 2 will be much of an RPG this time around as players will be able to customize everything about their robber while gaining skills in four different professions. He also says that players will be able to approach every mission with stealth or all-out action in mind.

Payday 2 will be out on August 13 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

  • Payday 2 Gameplay Video Shows How Not To Rob A Bank

There’s still little over a month before the sequel to the PC game hit, Payday, becomes available on Steam. To get us ready, the developers are inviting various publications into their fold, giving them a go at Payday 2. In the lead video, some of the guys from VG247.com are allowed to take the bank robbery-based first-person shooter a test drive, and while the video does help stoke the fires of anticipation, it also gives a step-by-step tutorial of how not to rob a bank, in either the Payday universe, or real life.

After watching their attempt, the moral of the story is to use some caution and discretion when trying to take down the banks. The Call of Duty deathmatch/shoot-everything-in-the-room approach will result in the heat being on your behind with a SWAT team-like precision. Of course, if you like that kind of challenge, guns blazing is the way to go; although, I’m not sure how many banks you and your crew will successfully take down.

But then again, that’s part of the fun, right?

Payday 2 will be available on August 13, 2013. It is also available for pre-purchase just in case you’re afraid Steam will run out of copies.

  • Payday 2 Gets A Web Series Ahead Of Its Release

Payday: The Heist was one of the more interesting games to come out in recent years. It took the concept of cops and robbers to a new level by pitting teams against each other with one trying to coordinate a successful bank heist while the other attempted to take them down. Now the popular game is getting a sequel, and its publisher is funding a live action Web series.

Payday 2 publisher 505 Games hired Demian Lichtenstein, director of 3000 Miles to Graceland, to bring the Payday world to life. He had this to say about the production:

“The Payday web series has been a solid and very close collaboration between all parties involved. I have never experienced such a high level of commitment to excellence from Payday creators Bo and Ulf Andersson, to the rock-solid input of game director David Goldfarb, and the combined efforts of the powerhouse global teams at 505 Games, Starbreeze, Overkill, Solaris, Equilibrium and Lightstone. Simply said, this is the best experience of my career.”

So far, there are only two episodes, but 505 Games will release a new episode every two weeks until the game launches.

Payday 2 will be out on August 13 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
