  • The Black Keys Gear Up For New Album Release

The Black Keys have released the second single for their upcoming album Turn Blue. The latest release, Bullet in the Brain, was played for BBC Radio 1 during a live session. The band were featured guests of Zane Lowe’s program. You check out the session in its entirety by clicking on this link.

The Bullet in the Brain release came off the heels of the band’s video release for their lead single Fever on Thursday. The quirky video was directed by Theo Wenner and featured Keys frontman Dan Auerbach as a sweaty televangelist.

The video for Fever brought along a bit of a mystery. The video prominently shows a phone number on the bottom of the screen, and if you were brave enough to call, it led to a recording of a man saying, “I’m calling because I’m interested in your releasing my album.” The voice belongs to Patrick Carney, the band’s drummer, who is actually prank calling The Black Keys record label, Nonesuch. He tells the label that he’s from a New Age band called Quartzazium, and that they are seeking a four-album deal.

Turn Blue is the band’s eighth album. It was recorded last summer in Michigan, Nashville, and Los Angeles. It was co-produced by the Danger Mouse and the band. The drop date for the album is May 13. You can also catch the band on Saturday Night Live on May 10. Charlize Theron is set to host the sketch comedy for the second time.

Black Keys fans are anxiously awaiting the album’s release date. The group hasn’t released a new album since 2011’s El Camino, which won the Grammy for best rock album that year.

  • Bieber Rips Carney, Carney Becomes Bieber

Patrick Carney started a veritable shitstorm last week when he made a comment directed at Justin Bieber after the Grammys, but he seems to be taking the backlash well.

When asked about what he thought regarding Bieber not winning a trophy at the awards show, Carney–who is the drummer for The Black Keys–said, “He’s rich, right? … Grammys are for music, not for money … and he’s making a lot of money.”

Immediately after that, Carney’s Twitter account blew up with Beliebers throwing around derogatory names and telling Carney to grow up and stop hatin’. Even Justin himself posted about it, saying Carney needed to be “slapped around”. At first, the drummer was content to simply tweet back sarcastic responses, but then he changed his profile name to Justin Bieber, which threw a wrench into the whole works (because the account is verified).

The account name has since been changed back, but Carney isn’t giving up without a fight.
