  • Nicole Kidman Says She Is Happier Than She’s Ever Been — ‘I Laugh a Lot More Now’

Nicole Kidman says she is happier person today than ever.

In an interview on Tuesday with Matt Lauer for Today, the Paddington actress said life is very different now, especially after moving to Nashville with husband Keith Urban in 2006.

Lauer questioned Kidman on a statement her friend Sheryl Crow made for Elle Magazine in regards to Nicole’s reputation for being “icy” because she is always “so poised.” Kidman said her reputation partly stems from the roles she chooses, but also attributes her “icy” reputation to her innate shyness that can make her seem standoffish.

“I am very shy, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve lost some of that shyness,” she said. “And I laugh a lot more now. I’m happier.”

Kidman, who was on the show promoting her new film Paddington, said she loves the movie because it embraces values like “kindness to strangers” and “kindness to others.”

Kidman couldn’t help but gush on her life in Nashville, where the simplicity of their world with their daughters, six-year-old Sunday and two-year-old Faith, is everything she’s always dreamed of.

“We have a very easy, warm, peaceful life,” she said. “That’s something I’ve always wanted and was heading towards, but didn’t know how to find it. I’ve found it now.”

“We are so blessed and we laugh a lot and play a lot,” Kidman said of the man she decided she wanted to marry after dating for only a month. “I just laugh.”

  • Nicole Kidman Dishes on Life With Keith, Film Roles

Nicole Kidman has been very busy this year with several films in the works, including The Railway Man, Paddington, Grace of Monaco and Before I Go to Sleep.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Kidman opened up about her roles, life and what truly makes her happy.

The Australian actress will share the screen with our favorite Mr. Darcy actor Colin Firth in three new films — The Railway Man, Paddington and Before I Go to Sleep. She joins the rest of the world in thinking the man is beyond yummy, but sees other qualities in the actor that she admires as well.

“I just enjoy him. I really enjoy his brain and his talent, but he has a really great sense of humor. Me and millions of other women in the world go, “Wow! Colin Firth!” My mom adores him. My sister adores him. I’ve just got so many friends who go, “Oh my gosh. Colin Firth.” I now know him in a different way, but I have such respect for him as an actor,” said the 46-year-old actress.

Kidman told AP playing Grace Kelly was “the chance of a lifetime to play her” and loves the film as a whole.

“I really admire her, and I think she has such otherworldly qualities,” she said. “I think she has an aura about her. I don’t know if I’m able to capture that, but I was honored to have the chance to. We’ll see. It’s only a six-month period of her life that we depict. It’s a fairytale. It’s not a heavy drama. It’s got beautiful costumes. It’s sumptuous.”

But what about Nicole’s life with husband Keith Urban? She had plenty to say about the love she has for her family.

“We have a very simple life but an extraordinary creative life, if that makes sense. I’m lucky that I’ve got a partner that’s totally committed to making it work,” she said. “We have two little girls that we adore, and we’re very blessed, in the sense of having a family. We certainly talk about everything. We make the decisions together.

“Happiness, that’s obviously different for everybody, but what I call my joy, the thing that makes me feel incredibly satiated, is my family, and then I get to go and play out all of my ideas and feelings through all these different characters. Then, I come back to just being mama.”

  • Nicole Kidman Stars in ‘The Railway Man’ and More

NIcole Kidman will soon become a mainstay on the big screen. Set to star in several films in the next several months, she will play a taxidermist villainess, an actress-turned princess, and a mysterious amnesiac–and that’s not all either. She plays the wife of World War II veteran Eric Lomax, who helps her husband confront his past as a prisoner of war in Thailand, where he worked on the “death railway,” a 258-mile stretch of treacherous train track running into Burma. That film is called The Railway Man and it hits theaters on April 11th.

During a recent interview Kidman was asked how she learned to play the roles of real women–especially Patti Lomax, the wife of Eric Lomax.

“Patti is different because she’s still alive and was able to give me information about herself. I didn’t meet her until I started filming. Everyone kept saying, “Do you want to meet her?” I was like, “No, I’d really like to be able to watch her in an interview.” Actually, the producer sat with her for hours — he’s a very good friend of hers — and taped her and sent me the tapes. I basically had access to her whole life, stories about her, her mannerisms and behavior, like I was a fly on the wall,” Kidman explained.

Colin Firth plays Eric Lomax in the film, but that’s not the only upcoming movie he and Nicole Kidman star in together. They also costar in Before I Go to Sleep and Paddington. Nicole was asked what it is about the actor that prompts her to continue to work with him.

“I just enjoy him,” she said. “I really enjoy his brain and his talent, but he has a really great sense of humor. Me and millions of other women in the world go, “Wow! Colin Firth!” My mom adores him. My sister adores him. I’ve just got so many friends who go, “Oh my gosh. Colin Firth.” I now know him in a different way, but I have such respect for him as an actor.”

In addition to all the talk about her upcoming films, Nicole Kidman was also asked about her family life with husband Keith Urban, and how she balances being an actress, a wife and a mother.

“Every time when we’re not working, we spend together,” she said. “That’s it. It’s that simple. We’re not off. We have a very simple life but an extraordinary creative life, if that makes sense. I’m lucky that I’ve got a partner that’s totally committed to making it work. We have two little girls that we adore, and we’re very blessed, in the sense of having a family. We certainly talk about everything. We make the decisions together.”

They’ve definitely made some good ones. Keith Urban has his lucrative recording and performing career and is a judge on American Idol. Nicole Kidman is flying high with all these films–and more–debuting within the next year.
