  • “American Sniper” Oscars Opening Song Lyrics Changed To Omit “Hero”, Gives Conservative Talk Shows Fodder

“American Sniper” Oscars Opening Song Lyrics Changed To Omit “Hero”, Gives Conservative Talk Shows Fodder

American Sniper‘s haul at the Oscars on Sunday night was minimal, to say the least.

American Sniper has many a fan, including a lot of conservatives, but apparently it didn’t have what it takes to impress the academy.

If you ask conservative talk show hosts, what it takes is tons of misery and victimization.

The prod that got the ball rolling for conservative talk show hosts on Monday was the last minute change to the lyrics for the Oscars opening song. American Sniper‘s Oscars song lyrics were supposed to read, “A boy we watch become a man [of Boyhood] … a hero of Afghanistan [of American Sniper].”

Instead, the American Sniper Oscars song lyrics that were sung were, “A boy we watch until he’s grown … a sniper in a combat zone.”

Yep, they went and omitted the word “hero” from the song.

Well, naturally, that had all of the conservative talk show hosts, obviously American Sniper fans, up in arms on Monday after the Oscars.

It could be suggested that perhaps the last minute change was due to an accuracy issue since Chris Kyle served in Iraq.

However, if that wasn’t the reason, the next best guess is that liberals in Hollywood object to Chris Kyle being referred to as a hero.

This was too much for conservative talk show hosts.

Add to that, the whole social issue agenda, as it was, and that makes a conservative political firestorm.

For instance, Patricia Arquette said during her acceptance speech, “The truth is, even though we sort of feel like we have equal rights in America, right under the surface, there are huge issues that are applied that really do affect women. And it’s time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we’ve all fought for to fight for us now.”

Talk show host Glenn Beck insinuated that there were many issues much more critical than the ones that were bemoaned on Sunday.

He said, “The insanity of this hobnobbing and how grotesque it was … What about equal rights in the Middle East? What about what is happening right now to the Christians, to the Jews, to the Muslims, to the women and children who are being slaughtered, crucified, enslaved and sold as prostitutes? What about them?

He added, “Thanks a lot Hollywood. Go watch Birdman.”

Beck’s colleague Dennis Prager said of Arquette, “You had a chance to talk to hundreds of millions of people in over 100 countries. What did you decide to talk about? With women being traded as sex slaves in the tens of thousands under radical Islamic rule in the Middle East and Africa.”

He added, “And what did you decide to talk about? Wage inequality in America. You’re a fool. You’re a moral fool.”

Prager also laid into John Legend and Common’s speech, which, among other things, suggested that the black community is still fighting for their right to vote.

Because they might have to have an I.D.

He summed the night up this way, “It gives you an idea, among other things, of how provincial these people are. They have no sense of human suffering. None. They are spoiled brats. That’s what they are. That’s the disgusting report from last night at the Oscars.”

    Hmm.

What do you think? Do you think Patricia Arquette, John Legend, Common, and others did a good job using their platform to bring attention to social issues or do you agree with Glenn Beck and Dennis Prager that those social issues are absolutely meaningless in the face of the bigger picture?

  • Adele Dazeem Inspires a Travoltify Name Generator

The Oscars was filled with plenty of memorable moments, everything from a random pizza guy to Lupita Nyong’o‘s heart filled speech. However, none of these moments have received the same success as Adele Dazeem. Adele Dazeem became a star overnight or-more accurately-in the span of a few minutes. The internet buzzed about this wickedly talented, one and only singing sensation. The only catch is that she doesn’t exist.

During the 2014 Academy awards ceremony, John Travolta introduced Wicked star and “Let it Go” singer Idina Menzel by calling her the wrong name. The internet blew up discussing Adele Dazeem. This blunder fascinated many people because Travolta’s pronunciation wasn’t even close to Menzel’s actual name, and he said it confidently. It even made some Oscar watchers wonder if Menzel wasn’t singing tonight, but replaced by some new artist.

We sympathize with Travolta, because no one knows exactly what happened to cause this mistake. It could have been Travolta’s fault, or a huge production error. Whatever the real story behind the blunder, the internet won’t let it go.

First there was the fake Twitter account based on Dazeem, and now Slate created a name generator inspired by Adele Dazeem. People who want their name Travoltified simple enter their first and last name, and then let the magic happen. Sometimes the only thing that matches a person’s real name and their Travolta name is the first letter, sometimes not even that. People are bonding over what crazy names that the Adele Dazeem name generator creates. Some celebrities even got in on the fun.

But the best response to the whole thing belongs to the real fake Adele Dazeem’s Tweet.

  • Oscars 2014: Pizza Guy Steals Show, Gets Hefty Tip

On Sunday night at the 86th Academy Awards, Ellen Degeneres delivered some memorable moments as host. First came the celebrity-packed selfie that vowed to break Twitter records, then came the promise of ordering pizza for the celebrities. Both events came to fruition.

Edgar, the mysterious pizza guy from Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria in Hollywood, delivered the five specialty extra large pizzas but never expected to be pulled in front millions of TV viewers.

    “No idea,” he said.

Ellen announced from the stage,”Guess what? Pizza’s here!” She then told the red-aproned Edgar, “I lied. We weren’t going backstage” and led him to the seats.

Brad Pitt passed out plates and napkins. Kevin Spacey took a pizza to hand out slices to those in the “cheaper” seats. Meryl Streep chowed down, despite the fact that she was wearing a white dress. Julia Roberts shouted that she wanted cheese.

But when it came time for the tip, Sandra Bullock didn’t have any money on her so Ellen called on others.

“Where’s Harvey Weinstein?” Ellen asked the crowd and, upon locating him, reminded him that there was “only a billion people watching” so give “whatever you think is right” for a tip.

Ellen passed singer Pharrell’s hat and collected several hundred dollars from the celebrities, but TMZ reported earlier that Edgar hadn’t received his tip.

Then, this afternoon, Edgar, a Moscow native, appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show to talk about his surprise visit to the Oscars. According to Popwatch, he thought he was going to deliver pizza to some writers last night. Imagine his surprise.

“They just told me, just wait here…and you came out,” he told Ellen in the interview.

The co-owner of Big Mama’s and Papa’s said the highlight of his night was serving pizza to his dream lady, Julia Roberts.

At the end of the interview, Ellen pulled out Pharrell’s hat filled with $600 cash. On top of that, Ellen added $400 from her pocket. “So you have a total of a thousand dollar tip,” she said, then declared pizza for everyone in her studio audience.

Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria is a Los Angeles chain with 20 locations. It bills itself as the “Home of the World’s Largest Pizza,” a 2,916 square inch pie. According to ABC News, this isn’t the first time Ellen has had contact with the local pizza franchise.

“Ellen’s talk show has picked up quite a few pizzas from us,” a Big Mama’s & Papa’s staff member said. ”They had us make a giant pizza before for one of her shows.”

Here’s to you, Edgar the pizza guy!

  • Kim Novak’s Oscar Face Sparks Cruel Jokes

Vertigo star Kim Novak made quite an impression last night at the 86th Academy Awards when she appeared on stage with Best Actor winner Matthew McConaughey to present the award for Best Animated Feature.

Novak is best known for her role in the 1958 Hitchcock thriller alongside Jimmy Stewart. Over the years she has suffered major injuries from a horse riding incident and has fought and won the battle with breast cancer. But none of those incidents were cause for what viewers witnessed on Sunday evening.

The 81-year old visibly had trouble speaking and her face was unnaturally stiff, sparking jokes online about how much plastic surgery Novak has undergone.

Of course, it didn’t help that the film that won Best Animated Feature was Frozen.

However, while many chose to poke fun at the aging actress, others came to her defense.

This isn’t the first time Novak’s face has been the topic of conversation. The same buzz occurred after she appeared at the TCM Film Festival in Los Angeles last April.

“I didn’t want to do anything major,” Novak said last October, referring to the doctors suggestion to inject fat into her face to add fullness. “That was absolutely crazy when I think about it now. You spend all your time trying to get rid of fat. I love the hollow kind of cheekbone look.

“So why did I do it? I trusted somebody doing what I thought they knew how to do best. I should have known better, but what do you do? We do some stupid things in our lives.

“I mean you pay to look worse? You pay money for that?”

Over the years, the American actress has spoken of her regret about leaving Hollywood in the 1960s at the height of her fame.

“I don’t think I was ever cut out to have a Hollywood life,” Novak said. “Did I do the right thing, leaving? Did I walk out when I shouldn’t have? That’s when I get sad.”

Novak also has been very upfront about suffering from bipolar disorder.

“I’m bipolar … but there’s medicine you can take for this now,” Novak said in an interview with Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne. “I was not diagnosed until much later. I go through more of the depression than the mania part.”

Novak added that she suffered from the mental illness while making Vertigo, as well as Pal Joey and Picnic.

Novak has won two Golden Globe Awards. The last movie she appeared in was the 1991 mystery film, Liebestraum.

Nowadays, Novak paints in watercolor and oil and sculpts and designs stained glass. She donates proceeds of many of her exhibition sales to mental health philanthropies.

  • Jim Carrey Draws Mixed Reviews at the Oscars

At the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday night, there were many memorable moments. Ellen’s actor-clad selfie broke Twitter records, John Travolta embarrassingly messed up singer Idina Menzel’s name before she went on to sing the hit “Let It Go” from the 2014 Oscar winner, Frozen, and heartfelt acceptance speeches from Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, and Lupita Nyong’o brought a tear to many viewers eyes.

But when Dumb and Dumber star Jim Carrey took the stage last night to present the award for best animated film wearing a shiny blue jacket and horn-rimmed glasses, the online Oscar-watching community buzzed even more and the “Hip Jim Carrey” meme was born.

On stage, Carrey joked about how he had never been nominated for an Oscar. But after his odd performance, face-twisting an impression of Bruce Dern in Nebraska, most people were reminded why the 52-year old actor and comedian has never gotten a bid.

While some eternal fans praised his humor, most viewers found his antics to be old, uncomfortable, and just plain dumb.

According to the Inquisitr, last year Carrey wore prosthetic big feet and and tiny wings to Elton John’s Oscar after-party, so some would say this year he kept it “subtle.”

Although the Canadian American actor has been known for his slapstick roles in television and movies – Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, The Mask – he has also been praised for his more serious roles in The Truman Show, and Man on the Moon, both of which earned him Golden Globe nominations.

Carrey has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and had battled depression in the past, but now states that he no longer takes any kind of medications or stimulants of any kind, including coffee.

“Jim has suffered from severe depression in the past, and you have to worry those fearful days are coming back again,” a source told the Express Tribune. “When you talk to him, he’s not as animated as he used to be. He seems [to be] at a low point — like a ship without a rudder.”

Carrey will be reprising his role as Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber To, which is released in theaters in November 2014.

  • Oscars 2014: Less Than A Week Away, But Anything Could Happen

Various details are starting to get sorted out for the upcoming presentation of the 2014 Oscars, although film fans could still be presented with a number of surprises on film’s biggest night.

The past year has been an incredibly competitive one for film, and has featured several films leading the way, with no real front-runner to take the stage. Who will end up taking the big awards?

Each of the nine films that are nominated for Best Picture this year have gained a lot of attention during awards season, and with less than a week to go until the big night, it is still hard to predict what will happen.

The list of presenters is now fully set, and features the addition of Emma Watson, who was added recently. The complete list features veterans such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie along with many others, in addition to newcomers Michael B. Jordan and Zac Efron, who were both seen in the recent comedy That Awkward Moment.

In order to continue with the previous tradition, the many presenters will also be joined by last year’s winners Daniel Day-Lewis, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, and Christoph Waltz to present the four acting categories. A total of 42 people will take the stage to present awards this Sunday.

As a part of the 2014 Oscars, the Oscar-nominated original songs will also be performed, which means that the hit song “Let It Go” from Frozen will be performed for the first time in front of a televised audience, with Idina Menzel singing it. The song has gained a great amount of attention, and has even spent a considerable amount of time on the BIllboard Hot 100.

This year’s awards have been split between several films in previous ceremonies in the 2014 season. The one thing that has remained constant for the most part has been Jared Leto winning the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, and Matthew McConaughey has also grabbed multiple awards leading up to the Oscars for the same film. McConaughey could take it again, although Leonardo Dicaprio may also be able to get his first Oscar for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street.

The Oscar nominations are led by American Hustle, and while it won the Golden Globe for Best Picture-Musical or Comedy, 12 Years A Slave won the award for a dramatic film. The two films tied for the amount of nominations at the Golden Globes, and are joined by Gravity as the three most-nominated films at the Oscars.

American Hustle, 12 Years A Slave, and Gravityseem to be the top 3 films in the race for Best Picture, but none of them seem to have much of an edge each other. Other films have also been known to give fans a bit of a surprise on Oscar night, and that is unlikely, but it has certainly happened before. For example, in 2005, everyone thought Brokeback Mountain would win Best Picture, and Crash ended up winning the award.

After Seth MacFarlane’s much-criticized hosting job, Ellen Degeneres will be returning to host the show after hosting once in 2007. The awards will be presented during the live televised event on Sunday, March 2nd. The show will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET, following the Red Carpet coverage that begins at 7 p.m. ET.
